This is a list of films released theatrically under the Walt Disney Pictures banner (known as that since 1983, with Never Cry Wolf as its first release) and films released before that under the former name of the parent company , Walt Disney Productions (1929-1983). Most films listed here were distributed in the United States by the company's distribution division; Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures , formerly known as Buena Vista Distribution Company (1953-1987) and Buena Vista Pictures Distribution (1987-2007).
This list is organized by year of release date and includes live action feature films, animated feature films (including films developed and produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios ), and documentary films (including titles from the True-Life Adventures series and films produced by the Disneynature label). For an exclusive list of animated films distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and its previous entities see List of Disney theatrical animated features .
However, this list does not include films released by other existing, defunct or divested labels or subsidiaries owned by The Walt Disney Studios (i.e. Marvel Studios MVL , Touchstone Pictures , Hollywood Pictures , Miramax Films , Dimension Films , ESPN Films etc.), foreign produced films released in the United States under the Walt Disney Pictures name that are solely produced by a third-party studio (e.g. Studio Ghibli ) nor any direct-to-video releases, TV films, theatrical re-releases, or films originally released by other non-Disney studios.

Notes
MVL Since 2012, The Walt Disney Studios began releasing Marvel Studios ' films following The Walt Disney Company 's acquisition of Marvel Entertainment in 2009, but those films are distinct as they have only been branded as Marvel and not Disney (e.g. The Avengers ), similar to how Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures titles have been marketed since 1984 and 1989, respectively.[ 41] Nevertheless, the Marvel Studios films appear alongside Disney-branded features, unlike other non Disney-branded films, including Disney's online site.[ 42] However, to remain consistent, this list does not include Marvel films distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures , unless such films are explicitly Disney-branded in their original releases or in a future re-release.
TR The Rocketeer was released as a Walt Disney Pictures release domestically.[ 43] However, outside of the United States and Canada, the film was released through the Touchstone Pictures label.[ 44]
TSC Released in conjunction with the Hollywood Pictures label.
TNBC Released under the Touchstone Pictures label for its original 1993 release, and was rebranded as a Walt Disney Pictures film for the 2006 reissue.[ 45]
J2J The original film, with the English name Little Indian, Big City , was given a limited U.S. theatrical release, with a dubbed version, under the Touchstone Pictures label on March 22, 1996. This was a contractual condition, from actor-producer Thierry Lhermitte , that Disney had to make happen in order to gain the remake rights which would ultimately result in Jungle 2 Jungle .[ 46]
