Naktala (Bengali:নাকতলা) is a neighbourhood in South Kolkata, near Garia under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in West Bengal, India. It is bounded by Ganguly Bagan to the north, Bansdroni to the west, Garia Crossing to the south and Baishnabghata to the east.

History

Previously forest, swampland and a peaceful rural area, with the occasional dak bungalow (the erstwhile Dalgis bungalow) in between, Naktala is located by the Tolly's Nullah (Adi Ganga canal) connecting Kolkata to the Vidhyadhari River to the east. It has evolved with time from a sleepy to a bustling neighbourhood, burgeoned and prospered with the arrival of people from all over, mainly East Bengal after independence.

Presently

Naktala is an upmarket suburban area of Kolkata in the southern part of the city, in the vicinity of Tollygunge and Garia. The Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Road connecting these two places, divides Naktala into two. Presently, houses of 1, 2, 3 storeys are giving way to thoughtfully planned and aesthetically created multistoried apartments. Naktala is further bound to grow in tune with the development in Kolkata and the economic climate.
