PSG College of Technology (Tamil: பூ. சா. கோ. தொழில்நுட்பக் கல்லூரி) is Government Aided, Autonomous, ISO 9001 2008 certified institution affiliated to Anna University. The college offers a total of 48 full time and part time programs in Science, Engineering and Management at Undergraduate & Postgraduate levels. The College was founded in 1951 by G.R.Damodaran, who also served as first Principal of the college. It is one of the many educational institutions nurtured by PSG & Sons Charities Trust. It is the first private engineering institution established in Tamil Nadu. The college is located in the same campus with the PSG Industrial Institute.

Academics

Among the various Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate programmes offered by the college, as many as 18 programmes by the National Board of Accreditation of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The college was conferred the autonomous status by the University of Madras in the academic year 1978-79, which was continued by the Bharathiar University and subsequently by Anna University. This enables the college to frame its own curricula, update syllabus and introduce new courses as and when needed. The college is empowered to administer its own evaluation system.[citation needed].

The various departments benefit from the expertise of more than 15 visiting faculty from other renowned institutions. Each department annually conducts at least one National / International Conference / Seminar / Workshop for effective dissemination of the latest technologies and research findings for the benefit of teaching faculty and the industries. On an average, five short term programmes on current topics of interest are conducted for the teaching faculty from other colleges with funding from AICTE / ISTE and other agencies.

The programmes of the college are recognized all over India and abroad. The college maintains close interaction with several R&D Institutions and other institutions of higher learning in India and abroad, through institutional network programmes and collaborative research programmes. It also has close collaborative links with industries in the fields of Automotive, Aerospace, Defence, Textile, Machine Tools, Software Development and Consumer durables.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure available in the institution for the pursuit of engineering education has been lauded by everyone including the alumni, the prospective employers, other educationists and policy makers. PSG Tech boasts of having one of Tamilnadu's finest libraries with thousands of volumes of books, technical journals, magazines and cds that are up to date. The library block consists of 4 floors and is fully automate and computerized.

Campus Life and Extracurricular

PSG College of Technology has always been a beehive of activity all year round, opening up opportunities for students to showcase their technical as well as cultural progress. There are a lot of clubs which function under the Student's Union. Cultural events conducted by the clubs like Tek Music, Youth Red Cross, Fine Arts, Rotaract, Dramatix, Paatashala etc provide the students with the much needed break from the monotony of continuous classes. Association of Serious Quizzers conduct quizzes all the year round. NCC and NSS are also functioning in the college.

'Kriya' is the national level technical symposium conducted by the student's union in the month of February, which attracts students from all over the country. The main event of Kriya is the 'Kriya Open Quiz'. 'Renaissance' is the cultural equivalent of Kriya which is conducted with much fanfare. Apart from these, the main intra college event is the 'Intrams', where students from various departments lock horns in variety of cultural events. There are also other charity events conducted such as 'Rhythm'(YRC), 'Win Hearts'(Rotaract) etc. NCC and NSS also conducts camps and do service to the people from nearby villages. YRC conducts blood donation camps. The English Literary Society(ELS) conducts 'Chill-out', an event for freshers and 'Lets Talk', an Group Discussion event.
