Revision as of 04:31, 6 February 2012

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Seems to be a large target for vandalism by new and anonymous (IP) users. Kinaro(say hello) (what's been done) 04:31, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This is a hoax page and it was deleted twice. Someone using anonymous IP keeps recreating this page. Therefore, I am requesting this page to be deleted and a block put on from recreating this page. Sumanch (talk) 04:18, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism.  ⊃°HotCrocodile...... + 04:02, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 day, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Materialscientist (talk) 04:05, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection This page was semi-protected a while ago due to persisent vandaliam by one IP - who has returneed with a vengeance. He's mainly using IP 143.188.101.65 but is using other addresses as well. A quick loot at the edit history [[1]] should give some background 220.255.1.74 (talk) 03:47, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Look at the edit history, this is getting hammered. Sven Manguard Wha? 03:33, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 day, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Materialscientist (talk) 03:39, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection Heavy vandalism. Zagalejo^^^ 03:24, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Several IPs continue to use undo to insert unsourced, POV text. The various IPs have been reverted by at least two regular editors. Not a highly edited article, but I don't see any constructive edits from an IP for several weeks. A relativley short semi-protection might do it. Novaseminary (talk) 02:31, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This article, probably because it relates to schools, gets a large amount of vandalism from school-based IPs. Just look at the history: almost all the edits are IP vandalism and reverts. An indefinite period of semi-protection is a good idea if this article is ever going to improve beyond its current state. Robofish (talk) 00:26, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection: Inappropriate use of user talk page while blocked – See recent history of the page. Sven Manguard Wha? 00:26, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    NTSC etc.

Semi-protection Long-term abuse that utilizes multiple dynamic IPs. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 23:59, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • Batch response: Declined. If all the vandalism are done by the same person and the person hops around both IPs and target articles, tracking that person down and blocking the person each time is a more suitable response than protecting the vandalised articles. Deryck C. 00:55, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: In response to a dispute on my talk page and at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Chesire FM Limited Incident. -Michaelzeng7 (talk - contribs) 22:59, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note: The dispute in question is deeper than that which is noted in the AN/I posting. While the 109.* IP may have overstepped the no-legal-threads policy, he appears to be editing in good faith at the article. I recommend continued scrutiny of the article but no protection at this time. —C.Fred (talk) 23:07, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I also hope to encourage Michaelzeng7 to be more careful about what he's restoring when fighting vandalism. Reverting an edit implies endorsement of what one's reverting to. Deryck C. 01:06, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: IP vandalism, unsourced/incorrect changes and unexplained removal of sourced information. Oz talk 22:18, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Permanent Semi Protection: There seems to be some edit warring on this page, the transliteration (English spelling) of an foreign name is the sticking point. No real discussion on the talk page, just an Ip user (and myself in a small part) versus a few others reverting the changes. --UnQuébécois (talk) 18:51, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 72 hours, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Hopefully the issues will now be moved to the talk page Skier Dude (talk) 00:45, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Move protection: This article was already moved three times in 2012 to a title that is not the subject's name despite a finished move request that dealt with the very issue. Hekerui (talk) 18:27, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. All the recent edit warring comes from one IP; I'm attempting to talk to the IP editor, who claims to be a member of Druze and has a source to back themselves up, but don't know how to cite it. Deryck C. 01:10, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Much of it having to do with Lin's cited nationality Chinese v Taiwanese. Only a few editors monitoring the page actively. de Bivort 15:51, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you're the expert, but by my count 8/14 non IP/bot edits in the last 5 days have been reversions of vandalism/nationality stuff, including reversions of multiple non constructive edits. The link in your reply suggests that the cutoff lies between 5% and 50%, and this is >25% by my estimate. The article also falls under WP:BLP. Perhaps you can explain your thinking a bit more so I understand? de Bivort 17:44, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. this article was protected till days ago but since the protection removed they started to vandalism and adding artist which not confirmed by the academy to the list of performers. can you please bring back the protection to the page until February 16th. that's when the show airs. so they stop editing and adding them to the list. thank you. Checking to see if protection is necessary. I have no idea. I think I will post at wikiproject India in first instance and watch for the time being. Anyone else who thinks semiprotection first up is more prudent is welcome to act...Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:52, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, this is a mess, but protection seems like too blunt a tool at this stage. I'm marking declined for the bot.

Temporary semi-protection: An anon user is doing lots of edits on this page. Some of them appear to be constructive (infos added), other seems to be tests or vandalisms (take a look to the infobox parameters "sire", "grandsire" and "dam" placed below interlinks (for the 3rd time), the ref removed and other similar things (grandsire link to Zebu instead of Zebu (horse), and Varenne is a horse, not a cattle). I've counter-rollbacked my last rollback and checked the article for a minor copyedit (markup and similar). A temporary semi-pro (1 or 2 weeks, or more) may be IMHO useful to avoid this markup experiments. --Dэя-Бøяg 13:50, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
