It is well connected by roadways to various parts of vellore district and connects all over Tamil Nadu since the highway (NH 46) from Chennai to Krishnagiri passes through the outskirts of the town.It is also connected with the Bangalore - Kerala Highway (No. 11) and it is also located on the Vellore to Salem main road.

Railways

The Mass Transport in Jolarpet is Indian railways apart from the Tamil Nadu transport corporation buses.Jolarpet is one of the oldest town in south India. It is the second largest Junction railway station in vellore district, next to Vellore-Katpadi Junction. This place is the crossroads for south west & south east bound trains.Trains from north and east india should pass by this way to Kochi-Coimbatore-Bangalore-Erode-Madurai and main railway It has the Second Largest Railway Yard in Asia.Per day 121 trainspass through Jolarpet. They have a centre for southern railway to repair goods compartments .. The history of Jolarpettai Junction goes back to 1860's. When Madras Railways is started the rail started running from Royapuram to Wallajah Road, which latter extended to Arakkonam. In the mean time rail line work was started in 1864 in the Jolarpettai - Bangalore Contonement route in which Bangalore mail started its journey in 1868. The Brindavan Express when introduced in the late 1960's was considered one of the fastest train at that time which crosses the Jolarpettai - Bangalore cantonment section in 1hour 3o min. This shows how people worked in this part of railways those days.

Jolarpettai Junction is one of the biggest junction in the Indian Railways and is the only station in Asia having sixteen tracks. This Junction handles about 60 passenger trains daily of which few trains originate from this Junction notable one is the popularly called JP express(Yelagiri Exp) which is now originating from Tirupattur. This Junction doesn't satisfies the norms for the status of junction which actually has to connect all the four direction but connecting only three direction Salem, Bangalore and Chennai. This will be soon compensated by the proposed Tiruvannamalai Route as well as another route proposed by the government Jolarpet Junction to Hosur via Krishnagiri. After upgrading the next station Tirupattur as Junction, the traffic in JTJ has reduced to a certain extent. But after that many trains made up their correct time due to the releif congestion occurred in this point. This Junction station is unique in one sense, this will be lazy during day times and will be in full swing in the night.

Jolarpettai Junction is one of the Class A Junction in the Southern Railways which comes under Salem Division. This Junction has all the facilities of workshop, shelter for the goods trains. This Junction is unique in one thing of having the ticket counter in the first floor on the bridge. This Junction has two bridges one with steps and another with the ramp which connects two villages of the town, Kodiyur and Eadayampatti. Since 121 trains pass per day at average some of trains do not stop due to rail traffic congestion such as Nilgiri Exp(daily),Mangalore Fast Exp(daily), Trivandrum Mail(daily) and weekly Express Tirupati -Coimbatore Exp,,Mangalore-Sangatrachi Exp,Swarna Jayanthi Exp,VIA Tirupattur weekly Express Vivek Exp,Madurai-Dwarka Exp,Velankanni-vasco da gama exp,Hubli Exp

The average maximum and minimum temperature are 42°C and 13°C respectively. The town typically receives a maximum rainfall of 35 cm, 37 cm during the September, October and November. Light moderate rainfall of 10 cm to 32 cm occurs during the months of June, July & August.

The Wind direction during April to September is southwest. September is usually a still cold month, with light and varying winds by October the winds shifts to northeast succeeded by North-East monsoon and winter season begins. The South-West wind begins to carry on the southwest monsoon with occasional showers up to August.

Yelagiri Hills

This hill-station is 3–4 hours drive from Chennai or Bangalore and is at a height of 920m above sea level. It is one of the quieter hill destinations of Tamil Nadu and is surrounded by orchards, rose-gardens and green valleys. The up-hill drive, with 14 hair-pin bends, takes you through some spectacular scenery. Yelagiri is basically a cluster of villages surrounded by four hills. The main settlements are at Athnavur and Nilavur. A peaceful and unexplored area, the destination has not been commercialized, and offers a picturesque and unpolluted ambiance.

Athanur town is the epicenter of this small hill station tucked away in Tamil Nadu. Judging by those tiny hamlets scattered all across, it would seem pretty obvious that it is not heavily populated. Tribals who inhabit these hills are mainly into agriculture and jackfruit and honey seem to be their major claim to fame. A short drive to the market place confirms this. On sale, are mounds of jackfruit, bottles filled with honey and of course, vegetables and various sundry items intended for the local populace.

Jalagamparai Waterfalls

A waterfall about an hour's trek from Yelagiri has been created by the Attaru River, which flows through the Yelagiri hills. The Government Silk Farm is famous for its mulberry plantations. The seri-culture tour can provide a chance to see a silk farm from very close quarters.
