Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    White Helmets (Syrian Civil War)

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – The previous full protection evidently hasn't done anything to resolve the numerous content disputes regarding this article. Stikkyy t/c 16:12, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Not enough disruptive editing to warrant a lock down. Ad Orientem (talk) 16:29, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Oath Keepers

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – POV push by several new accounts and an IP. VQuakr (talk) 16:37, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Bob Stoops

Full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Edit warring around whether 2017 or 2016 should be his last year. Silly. d.g. L3X1 (distænt write) )evidence( 16:54, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. To the extent that there is any edit warring going on it is far too slow moving to warrant a full lockdown. Ad Orientem (talk) 18:58, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Daryl Katz

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistant vandalism from multiple IP editors. –XboxGamer22408talk 18:49, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    15 minutes of fame

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – There must be some kind of off-wiki cooridination because different IPs are persistenly changing 15 minutes to 60 minutes. Deli nk (talk) 19:01, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 4 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 19:04, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • User:El_C I don't understand this - it was protected till August, now you've changed it to 4 days. Why? Dlabtot (talk) 19:18, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • That was pending changes (still active), not semiprotection. El_C 19:33, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Kevin Long (footballer)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Joke going around the Internet leading to vandalism . JMHamo (talk) 19:15, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 19:38, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Covfefe

Reversion and temporary full protection: WP:Articles for deletion/Covfefe resulted in a decision to merge the article to Donald Trump on social media, and the page was therefore turned into a redirect to a section in the latter. It is now the subject of an ongoing deletion review. However, in the meantime the page's content has been repeatedly restored, contrary to the declared consensus. For those who wish to consult the page's history, it has always been available for inspection. — Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 19:30, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Declined—Wait till the DRV is concluded. El_C 19:36, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent disruptive POV edits by IP, removal of reliable sources. IP replacing sourced NPOV facts with opeds(POVs) about Indian meat industry, asserting wrong facts as right and adding POVs. Please intervene. BakersTandoor (talk) 19:47, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Consider the edit warring noticeboard – This is a case of possible edit-warring by one or two users. BakersTandoor This is clearly a situation for WP:ANEW, where you are more likely to get a fair resolution. Who is right and who is wrong on this issue, is not so clear to any admin not familiar with India's laws on this issue. If I apply semi-protection, it blocks the IP changes, but not yours. I am not from India, and I can tell you what I heard about this, in fact just recently on a TV documentary. But that's heresay and not verifiable on Wikipedia. Please take it to WP:ANEW. — Maile (talk) 21:22, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Semi-protected since 2012. Pending changes might be more appropriate, or we could give unprotection a try. —Guanaco 21:29, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note: The protecting admin was active in March so I emailed them to as first. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 22:42, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Materialscientist this looks like you originally indef'd it in 2011. I think Steven Walling changed it in 2012, and then looks like he changed it back to what you had. — Maile (talk) 23:04, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If Steven Walling does not answer, see his last comment on Talk:Llama#Remove protection on why he reverted himself in 2012: "In the few hours I left this unprotected, there were already 4-5 pieces of vandalism".[1] Zzyzx11 (talk) 00:02, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Unprotected Indefinite semi was pretty extreme in hindsight. If this is a failure then we can try pending changes for sure. Steven Walling • talk 00:55, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: Semi-protected since 2009. It had some incidents of IP vandalism but I don't think it needed to be indefinitely protected. Its risk level should be about the same as any other article of that size. --Posted by Pikamander2 (Talk) at 06:15, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
