Prafulla Kar (born 16 February 1939) is an Oriya musician, singer,[4] lyricist, writer and columnist.[5][6] He was received Padma Shri,the fourth highest civilian award by Govt of India in 2015 for his contribution in the field of arts.[7]
Early life & Career
Born in 1939 into musician family in Puri, Odisha. His father is Baidyanath Kar and mother is Susila Kar. His elder father Khetra Mohan Kar was a renowned Tabla Player. He raised and brought up by his grand father Bhagaban Misra and grand mother Apanna Devi because he lost his father at an early age.[8]
Prafulla Kar has worked as music director and often as singer in 70 Oriya Films (Released and unreleased) as well as in 4 Bangla films.[9][10]
In popular culture
- 'Prafulla Kar Samman' awarded to different singers every year to celebrate his birthday in a two-day musical event.[11] The award consists of a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and a shawl.[12]
