Kendall Nicole Jenner (born November 3, 1995)[2][3] is an American fashion model and television personality. Jenner first came to public attention for appearing in the E! reality television show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Jenner is the leading figure in a model movement dubbed "the Instagirl era" by Vogue magazine, or "Social Media Modeling" by Harper's Bazaar.[4] Jenner built her online fanbase by posting backstage selfies and career updates to her followers on social media, giving them a unique fly on the wall view of her career and public life.[5]

After working in commercial print ad campaigns and photoshoots, Jenner had breakout seasons in 2014 and 2015, walking the runways for high fashion designers during the New York, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks. Jenner made her earnings debut at No. 16 on Forbes' 2015 list of top earning models, with an estimated annual income of US$4 million.[6]

Early life and family

Jenner was born in Los Angeles, California, to retired Olympic decathlete champion Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner after a 2015 gender transition)[7] and television personality Kris Jenner.

Jenner was raised in a stepfamily with one younger sister, Kylie, and eight half-siblings.[8] Jenner is half sister to Burt and Casey Lynn Jenner[8] through Caitlyn and first wife Christie Crownover. Through Caitlyn and second wife Linda Thompson, Jenner is half sister to indie pop singer Brandon and The Hills actor Sam "Brody" Jenner.[8] Jenner is maternal half sister to reality television celebrities Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob Kardashian[9] through mother Kris Jenner.

Jenner was raised with her sister and maternal half-siblings in Calabasas, an upscale suburb west of Los Angeles. Jenner attended Sierra Canyon School before switching to homeschooling in order to pursue modeling.[10] She graduated in 2014.[11]

Jenner began modeling at age 14 when Wilhelmina Models signed her on July 12, 2009.[12] Jenner's first modeling job was the Rocker Babes with a Twist campaign for Forever 21 in December 2009 and January 2010.[13][14] Jenner was featured in a Teen Vogue Snapshot on April 19, 2010.[15] In September 2011, Jenner walked for Sherri Hill during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.[16][17] By the end of 2012, Jenner had covers on numerous teen-oriented magazines, including American Cheerleader,[18] Teen Prom,[19] Looks, Raine,[20] GenLux,[21] and Flavour Magazine.[22] Jenner also modeled in swimwear campaigns with White Sands Australia,[23] Leah Madden,[24] and Agua Bendita.[25]

Popularity and Influence

Time magazine named the Jenner sisters as two of the 30 Most Influential Teens of 2014 on October 13 of that year[135] for their considerable influence among teenagers on social media. Jenner debuted on Models.com's Top 50 list on November 26, 2014.[136] The next month, Jenner placed No. 1 on the site's Social list[137] with a combined reach of 33.19 million followers. Models.com ranked Jenner the No. 1 most followed model on Facebook[138] and Instagram,[139] and No. 2 most followed model on Twitter[140] behind Tyra Banks. On December 16, 2014, Google named Jenner as the second most Googled model in the world.[141] Jenner was voted Reader's Choice Breakout Star of 2014 by Models.com in their 1st annual Models of the Year awards on February 10, 2015[142] and debuted at No. 2 on FHM's annual 100 Sexiest Women in the World list at the end of April, 2015.[143] Time added Jenner a second time to their list of 2015's Most Influential Teens,[144] a month before her 20th birthday.

Jenner made an impression upon the fashion industry in 2015 for her ability to drive brand recognition in the marketplace.[145] Celebrity Intelligence placed Jenner first on their 2015 'Very Important Endorser' list,[146] where she replaced previous brand magnet Beyoncé Knowles as the year's most in-demand brand ambassador.[147][148] Adweek named Jenner as one of the most valuable celebrity influencers, capable of generating up to US$236,000 for a single tweet.[149] In December, Tumblr named Jenner as its most reblogged model for 2015.[150] Jenner was voted Readers' Choice for Social Media Star in Models.com's 2015 Model Of The Year Awards. She was also named Industry Choice runner up for the same award, and was selected as Readers' Choice runner up for Female Model Of The Year.[151] During 2015, Jenner dominated social media as the No. 1 Facebook and Instagram model on Models.com's Social list. In that time she more than doubled her social media fanbase to 66.78 million followers. Jenner surpassed Tyra Banks in 2015 to become the most followed model on Twitter with over 13.75 million Twitter followers, making her the most followed model in the world across all social media platforms.

Jenner's rapid career ascent as one of the most prominent Instagirls[152] led Dazed magazine's editors to rank her 1st on their annual Dazed 100 list,[153] where she was named the top creative to watch out for in 2015. Jenner was given a triple-cover magazine issue and collaborated with the editors on a Mean Girls-inspired "Burn Book" parody, which responded to her online bullies[154] and industry detractors.[155] The video was later shortlisted on September 22, 2015 for the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences' annual Lovie Awards in the Internet Viral Video category;[156] Jenner's video won the Silver Award on October 13 of that year.

Jenner's popularity among millennials and ability to generate considerable online marketing buzz for any brand she wears has proven to be beneficial to fashion technology's Business to Consumer E-commerce protocols. Designer Sally LaPorte claimed Jenner's approval of her clothing line boosted her brand recognition and product sales, and helped the designer key into the particulars of her ideal clients.[157] Fashion tech entrepreneur Frank Spadafora designed his company's D'Marie app in order for fashion influencers who follow in Jenner's footsteps to measure, manage and monetize their social media portfolios. D'Marie has developed Models.com's Social ranking platform into a metric which measures influencers' market reach and engagement value, in a real-time chart comparable to Nielsen N.V.'s broadcast media ratings. The development of this app has ended up working to Jenner's advantage. On December 27, 2015, D'Marie's metrics placed Jenner 3rd on their list of influential brand ambassadors, and 1st on their list of influential models. As of February 19, 2016, Jenner ranked as D'Marie's #1 fashion industry influencer across all categories.[158]
