CAPTAIN MEDUSA, you are invited to the Teahouse!
Hi CAPTAIN MEDUSA! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. We hope to see you there!

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. AD Talk 07:53, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
The file File:Swastima Khadka - kutu ma kutu.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-free image failing WP:NFCC#8. Claimed to be used as primary means of visual identification at the top of the article, but it is being used in a section in a purely decorative manner.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Whpq (talk) 02:43, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
File:Swastima Khadka - kutu ma kutu.jpg listed for discussion
A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Swastima Khadka - kutu ma kutu.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion. Please see the discussion to see why it has been listed (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry). Feel free to add your opinion on the matter below the nomination. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 15:19, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:PM Narendra Modi.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:PM Narendra Modi.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:51, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi CAPTAIN MEDUSA! I'm leaving you a message because you requested speedy deletion for this article under A3. This request would've been declined, since articles only containing infoboxes are considered to be containing content. No big deal; just give yourself a brief refresher over A3 when you get a minute or two, and let me know if you have any questions about it. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:22, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

Please can you be a bit more specific on what is wrong with my perfectly valid copy-edit rather than it being "unconstructive" and undoing it immediately. It would not appear that you even edit football articles, so I do not even know if you are knowledgeable enough in the area to judge something as "constructive" or not.
Please familiarise yourself with talk page discussions when you make clear what exactly is so wrong with my edit that it has to be undone in an instant. If you continue reverting without explanation, I may be the one making a report, not you. 79.74.179.63 (talk) 17:41, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Rollback granted
Hi CAPTAIN MEDUSA. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! ~ Amory (u • t • c) 02:44, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: Project Engineering
Hello CAPTAIN MEDUSA, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Project Engineering, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: that particular CSD template is used when text from Page A is copied and pasted at Page B in an attempt to move the page there, and Page B is the desired page title. The title Project Engineering goes against MOS:CAPS guidelines. Also, the page seems to be an attempt to create a draft copy of the article. It is thus more suited to be moved to Draft: space rather than have Project engineering moved to Project Engineering. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. cymru.lass (talk • contribs) 21:25, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Lua function or the#statements
parser function. If they do, they will now be shown using a Kartographer<maplink>
if the wiki can use Kartographer. You can report bugs or ask questions on Phabricator. - There is now an EventStream to see when links are added or removed on Wikimedia wikis. You can read the discussions and plans.
Problems
- Some wikis will not be able to edit for a short period of time on 19 March (UTC). This will start at 15:00 UTC. It will last up to 15 minutes but probably shorter. You can see the list of affected wikis. This is because of network maintenance. You can still read the wikis.
- Editors who use Firefox to edit with the visual editor had a problem with copying text. When they tried to select text that included footnotes, templates or block images in the middle they would often only get part of the text. This has now been fixed. [8]
- Some maps didn't work for a while on 8 March. This has been fixed. [9][10]

- Admins will be able to block someone from editing a page or a namespace. This already works on a few Wikimedia wikis. You can read more. If your wiki wants to be an early tester of this, you can tell the developers. [13]
- Toolforge will shut down the Ubuntu Trusty job grid. This will happen the week of 25 March. Tools that use this grid needs to be moved to the new Debian Stretch job grid. If they haven't, they will be taken offline. Maintainers can restart the tools later. Users may not be able to use them in the meanwhile. You can see a list of affected tools.

- There was a problem with editing with Safari on iOS. When you wrote an edit summary you couldn't save the edit. This has now been fixed. [15]
- The editing toolbar sometimes disappears when you scroll on iOS devices. This will be fixed soon. [16]
- Wikis can over-ride interface messages on-wiki. A problem meant that sometimes an old versions of any changed messages were shown instead. This included the sitenotice and other important parts of the interface. This was fixed at around 2019-03-22 16:00 (UTC). Logged-out users may still get the wrong message. Christine Thomas (Artist) deletion
Hi I need some pointers on why this was deleted, I did post a rebuff but did not get any reply. I also removed the last paragraph. This was not promotional - as Christine is retired it is informative as her work in London and Canterbury has left a legacy which is studied and archived by several bodies. I am a bit confused as her college Brian Barnes who she worked with when working in London has a non contested page. Thanks Softsync — Preceding unsigned comment added by Softsync (talk • contribs) 09:12, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Softsync: The article was deleted for A7 and G11. The article didn't have reliable sources see WP:CCOS and article was written like promotional article. You may want to create draft article.___CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 16:21, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

WP:UAA reports on users with no edits
Generally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI: "Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.
For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:31, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – April 2019
News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2019).
Interface administrator changes
|
|
- In Special:Preferences under "Appearance" → "Advanced options", there is now an option to show a confirmation prompt when clicking on a rollback link.
- The Wikimedia Foundation's Community health initiative plans to design and build a new user reporting system to make it easier for people experiencing harassment and other forms of abuse to provide accurate information to the appropriate channel for action to be taken. Please see meta:Community health initiative/User reporting system consultation 2019 to provide your input on this idea.
- The Arbitration Committee clarified that the General 1RR prohibition for Palestine-Israel articles may only be enforced on pages with the {{ARBPIA 1RR editnotice}} edit notice.
- Two more administrator accounts were compromised. Evidence has shown that these attacks, like previous incidents, were due to reusing a password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. All admins are strongly encouraged to enable two-factor authentication, please consider doing so. Please always practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
- As a reminder, according to WP:NOQUORUM, administrators looking to close or relist an AfD should evaluate a nomination that has received few or no comments as if it were a proposed deletion (PROD) prior to determining whether it should be relisted.

You were referring to reliable resources. In my case i supplied tertiary sources, summarising as credible observers the work that was put into practise. The companies with high levels of integrity were KPMG and Australian Defence Force (non-profit unit) ICCMP. Both letters are in the references. What may i have missed? Greetings, Zsolt Zsoltnyiri (talk) 00:02, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Could you please be more specific about 'half of the things' are unsourced? Meaningful and relevant twelve references are listed. The COI-letter was found by the editors and acknowledged to be existent. All recorded and I took the liberty place it in the USER Talk page. I trust this will make it all easier to find the information. Zsoltnyiri (talk) 16:02, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Zsoltnyiri: History section, has three refs for the first sentence and no refs for rest of that section. Related research and observations section, has one ref in the first sentence and no more refs for rest of the section that applies for Theoretical applications section too. ___CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 11:11, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- More wikis are now testing visual editor section editing for mobile users. You can read more.
- Admins on French and Polish Wikipedia can block someone from editing a page or a namespace. If your wiki wants to get these blocks before they are available to all wikis, you can tell the developers. [19][20]
Problems
- You will be able read but not edit most wikis for 30 minutes on 11 April at 05:00 (UTC). This is because of a hardware problem. You can see a list of the affected wikis. [21]
- A map update caused some problems on 29 March and 30 March. It was rolled back. [22]
- Pages on some Wikivoyages had problems with the top headline. This has been fixed. [23]
Changes later this week
- When you add an edit summary the VisualEditor will search your recent edit summaries in case you want to re-use one. This works in both the visual and wikitext modes on desktop. It also works on the mobile site. [24]
- The Wikimedia wikis will get a URL shortener. This will work from 11 April. You can read more. [25]
- The
{{REVISIONID}}
magic word will no longer work. This is for performance reasons. When you preview a page it will return""
(empty string). When you read a page it will return"-"
(dash). For now this will only affect content namespaces. [26] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 April. It will be on all wikis from 11 April (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 10 April at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- You will be able to preview references. This means that when you hover over the link you will get a popup that shows you a preview of the reference. It will work much like page previews. This is so you don't have to go to the bottom of the page to see a reference. This will now be available as a beta feature on German and Arabic Wikipedia. [27][28]
- The Wikidata JSON output will change. Empty containers will be serialised as empty objects. This is a breaking change that will affect tools that use JSON outputs and APIs. It will happen on 30 April. You can read more and see how to test your code.

Draft Status
Could you take a moment and explain something to me. I've created a few articles and been able to elevate a few others to "Did you know..." and Good Article status. I was in the process of creating another article (which would have taken perhaps another 45 minutes) when you sent it to a Draft page. Couldn't you just wait another few minutes (after reviewing the user information to confirm prior activity) for me to complete the work, rather than sending my article off to purgatory (where approvals can take weeks and month)? Is that really necessary? Gulbenk (talk) 20:56, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

Draft
11 April 2019: Thank you very much CAPTAIN MEDUSA for tidying up some of the formatting of the re-submission below, and for moving it to Draft status. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Fleecehold I note that there are currently just under 3,000 pending submissions and that it could take months for the article to be included in Wikipedia. The fleecehold issue is "hot" at the moment, with a few Members of Parliament referring to it almost every day, and at least one reputable newspaper running a story on or related to fleecehold every week, so I wonder if there might be a way for such an article on a topical subject to be fast-tracked? Dear Captain Medusa, Thank you for reviewing my Article WindStation in AFC Modus. You declined my Article WindStation in AFC Modus with the following comment: "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified."
I am not sure what is wrong with the sources I used. Could you please be more specific what is missing or wrong? Is the style of the sources wrong? Are they too old or are more sources needed? Could you give a hint which of the sources I used are not "reliable".?
Thank your for your answer!

Speedy deletion nomination of Nepal International Film Festival
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Nepal International Film Festival requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The red-billed gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae scopulinus), also known as the tarāpung, is a member of the gull family, Laridae. Endemic to New Zealand, it is found throughout the country and on outlying islands including the Chatham Islands and the New Zealand Subantarctic Islands. Formerly considered a separate species, it is now usually treated as a subspecies of the silver gull. It regularly feeds on small fish, shellfish and worms, and sometimes berries, lizards and insects; it scavenges among urban waste in coastal towns. This red-billed gull was photographed in Christchurch. Photograph credit: Michal Klajban

Speedy deletion nomination of Wilhelm Braun (disambiguation)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Wilhelm Braun (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
