Cultural impact of Michael Jackson[edit]

Hi Akhiljaxxn, can you explain the revert for Cultural impact of Michael Jackson? Isaacsorry (talk) 19:39, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry. Your additions were excessive and unnecessary and it was fully forked content from other wiki pages. And there are many debates on these regarding the article's talk page like what should be there and what shouldn't be there. I hope you read it thoroughly before you make further edits. Thank you. Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Alert[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

A community discussion has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to Michael Jackson.
The specific details of these sanctions are described here:-

Broadly, general sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

Information icon Hello, I'm Kutyava. I noticed that you recently removed content from Sriram Venkitaraman without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Reverts on Dangerous[edit]

Information icon Hello Akhiljaxxn, can you give me a reason why you reverted my edits on Dangerous as you didn't explain in the edit summary. This would be much more helpful in the future and less confusing. Thanks :) Isaacsorry (talk) 10:43, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There has been a technical problem with the refund of Draft:T. G. Mohandas being done by cut and paste and I am currently sorting out a work around.

  • Please don't edit that draft or its replacement (currently at Draft:T. G. Mohandas 2 ) until I've finished and removed in-use.
  • You will have to do link removal again ... but please don't do it until in-use is removed. This is simply because I really would like confirmation from Padavalamkuttanpilla their contributions from the bad draft have been duplicated faithfully and they are happy with the attribution.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Djm-leighpark (talk) 19:57, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have now removed the In-use Draft:T. G. Mohandas 2 which is now the good fork. I need to mention in terms of completeness that while most of external links have already been removed and you may need to consider whether those that remain are appropriate in your view. ( I am giving this from a technical point of view of clerking out the bad fork which is independent of any views I may have of whether particular external links are/were appropriate ). Thankyou for your patience. Djm-leighpark (talk) 09:23, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020[edit]

Hello TheWikiholic,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Public image section[edit]

It's not clear why did you made this revert. It's just a copyedit, the previous version had several issues, including lack of context, connecting unrelated sources, and non-neutral (WP:CSECTION). For example, the first sentence begins with "in 2013" when it actually happened in 2018 per source, and it is unrelated to the second sentence but both are connected together – the incident mentioned in second sentence happened in 2013. The third sentence "opposition by a graduate student" has no context as the incident was not mentioned before. Statements about transgender and autism was redundantly mentioned two times. The section was nonsensical to readers who don't know about the subject. What additionally added was Rajith's point-of-view – previously it was one sided, public's reaction, and gave context to the others. No new sources has been added, all changes were made based on the content in the existing sources itself. Now it's balanced and makes sense. 137.97.68.17 (talk) 17:40, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Akhil, Can you please quote the line from NPOL that talks about the party president ? you can respond here, since it is about the policy and less on AfD --DBigXray 17:42, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DBigXray I apologize for the line about the President, because this was the policy on the Malayalam Wikipedia. The subject meets NPOL since it passes one of the two policies: Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage; and also passes WP:GNG.- Akhiljaxxn (talk) 18:20, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

March 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at List of ATK players. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. Inappropriate Canvassing[edit]

Hi. I'm Barkeep9, an administrator here. I have been closing AfDs tonight have come across two different nominations (and perhaps there are others) where there is a concern that you were canvassing people. Please read (or re-read) WP:CANVASS and let me know if you have any questions either by pinging me here or leaving a note on my talk page. Barkeep49 (talk) 01:24, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Barkeep49, I messaged a few editors who are known for their expertise in the field of discussions related to AfD. I wanted to draw a wider range of informed but uninvolved editors' input for this. And my message was "I would like to bring your attention: for your input here (link 1), here (link 2) and here (link 3)." I thought WP:APPNOTE allowed this.- Akhiljaxxn (talk) 07:58, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Akhiljaxxn, the note itself wasn't the issue. It was going to a select group of editors. Posting to a project is OK. Posting to a defined list of editors (e.g. those who participated in an earlier AfD) is OK. Going to editors you respect - even if you don't know how they will !vote is not really permitted by CANVASS, at least in my reading of it. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 12:39, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't going to a select group of editors. If it was like you said, two out of three that I messaged wouldn't make an issue out of it. Akhiljaxxn (talk) 06:56, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Relist bias/3rd relists[edit]

Hi there - I saw your relist at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adivishnu. I'm not sure if you've ever read WP:RELISTBIAS but I think it does a good job of explaining why non-admins should be cautious about relisting at AfD. Beyond that, our deletion guideline says that for a third (or more) relist a statement is called for. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 02:25, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, You are correct. I never read WP:RELISTBIAS before, and my reasons for the relist were well described in there. I will be more cautious next time when I do so. Akhiljaxxn (talk) 06:56, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Square One[edit]

There was no message for me as you claimed, therefore no explanation why you reverted my edits which used Wikipedia guidelines as a source. Jordan Chandler was the boy who alleged sexual abuse by Michael Jackson so the page is wrongly claiming it was Evan Chandler. The court case is well documented to prove it was Jordan Chandler, it's not debatable.

Proof it was he:

Back in 1993, when the first charges of sexual abuse were leveled at Michael Jackson by a 13-year-old boy named Jordan “Jordie” Chandler

In mid-August 1993, during an appointment set up by Chandler with psychiatrist Dr. Mathis Abrams, Jordan described being molested by Jackson, including incidents of kissing, masturbation and oral sex, which Abrams reported to the authorities.

Jackson was first accused of child abuse in 1993 by Jordan Chandler. That accusation led to an extensive law enforcement investigation but no indictment. Jackson reportedly settled a civil lawsuit in 1994 with an undisclosed payment to Chandler's family.

On August 17, Chandler took his son to a psychiatrist, where Jordan revealed the details of Jackson’s abuse, including fondling and oral sex. Per California law, the allegations were then reported to the police, who launched an investigation into Jackson.

"In January 1994, Jackson settled the case for $23 million, with $5 million going to the family’s lawyers. Prosecutors dropped the criminal case after the boy declined to cooperate."

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.

Page mover granted[edit]

Hello, Akhiljaxxn. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Apology for opening an SPI[edit]

Dear Akhiljaxxn, On further investigation, I think I am wrong. I apologize for opening an SPI investigation against you. I was too quick to judge, I think it is the Padavalamkuttanpilla who needs to be investigated further. Sorry, if it came about as rude to you. Hunting for socks isn't my forte, I just started on it today, found 2 socks, and thought I am good it, but I was wrong. Sorry for wasting your time or if it hurt your sentiments in any way. I would like to withdraw the SPI against you but I am not aware of the procedure to undo. Hope you accept my apology. Angus1986 TALK 19:54, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COI and UDP tag[edit]

hi this is sabbir. in one of my articles https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanta_Jahan related a celebrity you have put COI and UDP tag. to be honest i have nothing to do with the celebrity nor did i got any monetary help or undisclosed payment have been made. it was my first biography related article, and i uploaded that image so that i can use it in my sandbox to edit my article before publishing. that is why i uploaded it first and there was no close connection between me and that celebrity. i did texted her in the Instagram whether i can use her image and her agent said if it is non-profit then yes. but the problem is i made a mess with the licensing term, that was a mistake. later i realized that mistake and removed the licensing tag. i am using Wikipedia for a long time and it happened never that i was being a suspect of a false allegation. i believe in free editing and discourage any paid articles. i have told all the true things. i hope you will reply, i too replied on that pages talk page but you did not respond.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! ~Swarm~ {sting} 02:08, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Continuity of Mohun Bagan football division[edit]

Hello Akhil, I would like to draw your kind attention to the facts related to Mohun Bagan which are being distorted on several occasions by East Bengal fans. I have been keeping an eye on whatever is being done with Mohun Bagan related pages on wikipedia. Probably your views on the matter have been skewed by some ardent East Bengal fans. I think it would help you to get a clearer picture of whatever is happening. As you seem to be a neutral, so called outsider like me (I don't like the term though), I think if I can present you with the factual evidences, it would be beneficial. The brand identity of Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Private Limited (established in 2017) has been transferred to the ATK Mohun Bagan Private Limited (established in 2020). This new company is the owner of ATK Mohun Bagan FC. This team will participate in the AFC Cup 2021. If you can kindly have a quick look at the Entry Manual for AFC Club Competitions (2021 edition) it might be very helpful. The Sporting criteria for a club to enter AFC Competitions include as the first point,

9.1. To meet the sporting criteria, a club must have earned one (1) of the following (which shall be applied in descending order to determine the representative clubs of a Member Association): 9.1.1. winner of the domestic top division league; 9.1.2. winner of the domestic cup; 9.1.3. runner-up of the domestic top division league; 9.1.4. third place of the domestic top division league; 9.1.5. fourth place of the domestic top division league (only if there is no domestic cup applicable for Article 9.1.2). So, if ATK Mohun Bagan was any new club it could not qualify for the AFC Cup 2021. Now, coming to the continuity of Mohun Bagan... The business takeover resulted in change of the name of the football division of Mohun Bagan AC which was registered as Mohun Bagan Athletic Club at IFA (WB) (the governing body of football in West Bengal). The name was changed into ATK Mohun Bagan. Please see this link in which an official letter from IFA Secretary has been shown which proves that ATK Mohun Bagan FC is simply a rebranded version of the football department of Mohun Bagan. I think it would help you get the real taste of what has happened. I have edited each time the sanctity of wikipedia as a reliable encyclopaedia has been in the question. Wikipedia needs to be protected from social media fan fights. One user accused me of being Mohun Bagan fan (look at my talk page) which I am not; I gave him an answer. I am pretty much clear to myself that I shall try to protect wikipedia pages from being hijacked by misinformation campaign being run on social media irrespective of whoever (Mohun Bagan or East Bengal fans) are trying to do that. It is our collective duty as responsible editors. I would like to request you to kindly have a close look into the matter. I would appreciate questions from you if that helps to clear up any doubt.  Thank you very much! M Kariyappa (talk) 08:41, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kalaripayattu[edit]

Religious fanatics are taking ownership at Kalaripayattu and not allowing any edits deviating from their agenda. The worst part is it is pending-changes protected and they all are confirmed accounts who can make changes without scrutiny. None of them give proper explanation for reverting, and sometimes blatantly reverts multiple edits (edited with proper edit summary) without explanation. Two of them have COI as evident from their usernames (Kalari). Their main business is promoting their POV and highlighting Hinduism part, though Kalaripayattu do have rituals based on Hinduism, the art itself is not a "Hindu art", it just happened to have originated when only Hindu "religion" was prevalent in Kerala. It is a martial art practised by all religious communities, many of the masters are Muslims, the Christians even have a folk dance derived from Kalaripayattu. Some Hindu extremists are "making statements" by projecting Hinduism on an otherwise communally harmonious martial art. BTW, I am also a Hindu, but this is too much.

The first time my edit got reverted (see history here onward), I never thought it was religious agenda, but now it's becoming clearer, as User:Kalariwarrior changed "Indian mythology" to "Hindu mythology" (source says former), and User:Kalari Poothara's recent Hinduism promotion in lead, and as Outlander07 is now trying to re-insert Hinduism claims (not in the source) in lead which I had removed; he had also removed a sourced mention about a Hindu lower-caste community – Thiyya. There are multiple legends on the creator - Parashurama, Shiva, Agasthya; they want Parashurama, not only that, they don't want to attribute it as "legend" (I agree with [1]). I suspect Outlander07 and Kalariwarrior to be the same person, all three are incompetent in editing. The article requires serious cleanup for sourcing and NPOV. Should I report this activity to WP:ANI, or somewhere else, or what? Please help. 2409:4073:2016:2138:D049:39FF:BF04:3F17 (talk) 19:48, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Akhiljaxxn, why haven't this editor who go by various socks Othayoth shankaran, Kalari Poothara, Kalangot, Kadathanadan chekavar, Adhithya Kiran Chekavar not yet been blocked in Malayalam Wikipedia? He has been editing there with multiple accounts. He's already blocked here [2][3]. Additionally, if you check this inserted reference, it's a self-published manual written by "Adhithya Kiran". In one of his sock accounts he has revealed that he is the secretary of Thiyya Mahasabha [4]. He's editing and socking only to promote his caste.--157.44.166.40 (talk) 16:44, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol December Newsletter[edit]

Hello TheWikiholic,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Request on 07:12:49, 26 May 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by 27.142.113.192[edit]

I submitted an article which is a direct translation of an existing French Wikipedia page at https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Louise_Young In fact, Sarah Louise Young has existing Wikipedia pages in Arabic Catalan Danish German Spanish Finnish and Polish (all linked from the French page shown). The submitted article lists an extensive filmography and a list of International awards that she has won for her work. In short, even a cursory reading would demonstrate that she is a noteworthy person. And THIS EXACT ARTICLE SUBJECT AND TEXT-word-for-word (in French)--is already accepted and in use in the French Wikipedia. So I do not understand the basis for the rejection of this article in the English Wikipedia.

Please explain 1. Given her multiple awards and film appearances listed, explain why you think that she is not noteworthy 2. Given her other multiple current Wikipedia pages, explain why she should not be accepted into the English Wikipedia 3. Given that this translated text is already accepted and in use in the French Wikipedia, explain why is is unacceptable in the English Wikipedia

I will not alter the accepted French text pending these explanations.

Just to elaborate on this, here are the Wikipedia standards for "Notability" and why they apply here

Any biography The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for such an award several times. Sarah Louise Young has received multiple Interbational Awards, which are listed in the article

The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. Sarah Louise Young has an extensive filmography starring herself, which is listed in the article

Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following. She was an extremely popular star in the 1990s, and still maintains fans today.

Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment. As the article mentions, she was the first adult star to receive a $1,000,000 fee for a single adult movie (which gives an indication of how popular she was).

Finally, I should mention that I was personally looking for bio information on her and was shocked to find that the foreign Wikipedias listed her, but the English one did not. This seems like an unnecessary, arbitrary and unhelpful decision, and led me to submit the current draft. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.142.113.192 (talk) 07:34, 26 May 2021 (UTC) 27.142.113.192 (talk) 07:12, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

I hope you are doing well and keeping safe, when writing this essay I had you in mind. I hope you read and internalize it. Celestina007 (talk) 19:58, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

, I know I was not supposed to close that AFD then. That's why I restored it the very next moment Bbb23 asked me to. However, the way he is nominating pages citing he has done WP:Before is simply misleading other editors. To be honest, it is amazing to see how fast people are learning to nominate pages for deletion and filing an SPI within 20 days of creating their account.— TheWikiholic (talk) 20:28, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What you are implying is a situation I have found myself involved in several times when fighting undisclosed paid editing, in which the user is barely three months old and is extremely knowledgeable about the inner workings of Wikipedia even triumphing that of veteran editors. However, for record sake, allow me state that, I am not in agreement with you that Powerful Karma is a returning blocked user evading a block and at the same time, I am not saying that you are wrong, but you have to approach this with utmost care and until you have cogent evidence you would be casting aspersions which could lead you to be “burned” and by “burned” I mean either blocked or getting an IBAN. The situation you make reference to mirrors this comment by Lugnuts. AFAIK, the collaborative project has no text book method on dealing with new users who are too new to be vast in policy, so for now or until an RFC is opened to address this specifically all we can do is watch closely. Celestina007 (talk) 21:10, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not doing anything to sanction IBAN me. I left that topic with my last comment on your talk page. As you can see, I do lots of other things that interest me, and of course, I'm happy to know that I'm one of the reasons why the community got an essay .— TheWikiholic (talk) 13:16, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MJ videography copy-edit[edit]

Hi. As you have probably noticed, I've been copy-editing the MJ videography article following GOCE request and I see you've already made some improvements. I'll be back here with some suggestions after I've gone through the whole article. Bye for now. Leoseliv (talk) 20:10, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Leoseliv: Thanks for your works and suggestions. I think the descriptions for the music videos are not consistent in style. For instance, some are in the past tense and some in the present tense.— TheWikiholic (talk) 03:12, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Moving pages out of mainspace[edit]

Make sure you're only moving articles that need more proof of notability into draftspace. COVID-19 vaccination in Japan was definitely notable. More people will see it and be able to help the article if it's left in mainspace, too. Anarchyte (talk) 09:46, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See this. This is how the page looked when I moved the page into the draft space. There were many empty sections on the page and the creator of the page has not made any edits for some time (and you can see he hasn't made a single edit since then). And there were no templates in the article to show the evidence of active improvement. I know the subject is notable, and that's why I moved the page into draft space per WP:DRAFT instead of nominating for deletion.— TheWikiholic (talk) 11:14, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
WP:DRAFTIFY clearly states that there needs to be "no evidence of active improvement". You moved it 24 minutes after the author made an edit. There's no rush. I find it very disingenuous of the whole AfC and NPP system when reviewers shove everything into draftspace instead of fixing it themselves. Anarchyte (talk) 06:42, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I often try to improve the article by adding citations, wikilinks, and small types of copy editing.— TheWikiholic (talk) 18:17, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WIkiholic[edit]

Hello Wikiholic, I have just started contrubuting on wikipedia. I still have a lot to learn.

I am kind of confused with the your comment on a page I created. I created the page of an author; after reading the book I found his life story fascinating. So I wrote with all the information and references I could find on the internet. For the image, I found that it was owned by an organization; so I asked them if I could use it and they gave me permission to use it. I can't seem to understand if that is a copyright infringment and could you please guide me what should I do?

And the image is already licenced under CC license.

I got this message on my tp but removed it because I saw what they were trying to do. Classic tale sign of shady behavior. You might want to try that angle.(if you haven’t already). Celestina007 (talk) 14:50, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think I did, unfortunately. The possibility of being a sleeper account is quite possible. One of the other articles created by him was also tagged for COI and UDP by Aspening.— TheWikiholic (talk) 15:32, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect an article to a section in the Sikkim LS constituency page[edit]

What do you say to blanking 2019 Indian general election in Sikkim and redirecting it to Sikkim (Lok Sabha constituency)#General election 2019, since there is only one LS constituency in Sikkim? The 2019 section there has more information that this article. Obviously the same reasoning applies to the 2014, 2009 and 2004 pages as well. I'm asking you in particular since you converted 2019 Indian general election in Sikkim from a redirect into an article. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 09:45, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

S0091 The subject has been nominated for an award which is notable for Independent artists. I also discovered that the subject got coverage from sources such as the USA Today and Billboard. Oh, I am not debating at all your acceptance is correct so please do not think that is why I was asking. I am new to AfC so simply trying to learn. When I was looking at it, I was not sure if the Independent Music Awards was considered "major". I had not completed a review of all the sources. Your reasoning is helpful to me for future reviews. New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021[edit]

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello TheWikiholic,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Regarding your rejection of musical artist Jessica.[edit]

Hi, thank you for your attention.

I have noted 3 criteria for notability: Releases on major music labels. Has performed music for a work of a notable film. Is a prominent representative of the Vocaloid style Only one of these criteria has to be met to qualify of notability. These are the notability requirements for musicians: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(music) In addition to these criteria also being one of the highest ranked DJs in the world would be a notability criterion in its own. So there are even 4 criteria met. Jessica is ranked 246th in the world by The Official Global DJ Rankings, which is the defacto independent website for DJ Rankings and the go to site for Google when searches are made for DJ Rankings.

As Examples: Fritz Kalkbrenner ranked 252 Groove Armada ranked 253 Little Louie Vega ranked 263

Most of the top 5000 DJs are on Wikipedia, but around 400 are not entered yet. A few friends of mine and I are in the process of entering those missing DJs. There are approximately 7000 DJs listed on Wikipedia. Any DJ in the top 10K is considered a major artist and has typically released remixes or albums on major labels. This is how The Official Global DJ Rankings describes it: https://djrankings.org/about_rankings “The Official Global DJ Rankings ranks the TOP 10.000 DJs in the world (TOP 10K). One may speculate that making it to the TOP 10K intrinsically does not sound like an achievement – but in fact it is a preeminent accomplishment. In 2020 The Official Global DJ Rankings did a comprehensive study to determine how many professional DJs there are in the world. The study conducted individual geographical case studies and used an advanced mathematical algorithm, taking into consideration aspects such as: population, rural incomes, segmentation of clubs, GDP, religious and cultural factors. To define a professional DJ, the study set as criteria that the DJ was able to sustain a living solely based on salary earned from DJ work. The study concluded that there are approximately 1¼ million professional DJs in the world in 2020.”

It is not my objective to source substantial information for the artist’s Wikipedia page, that is for the Wikipedia editor community to do. I focus only on the few criteria necessary for notability, and source those. Then the Wikipedia community continue the editing of the profiles with more interesting facts. I plan to put up at least 400 missing DJ profiles, and I will argue their notability.

By the way Jessica should alone qualify for notability criteria due to having performed cast lead vocals for one of the highest grossing movies of all times, and certainly the highest grossing music film.

Also please note that another criteria for notability is having received a gold record. Due to the evolution of music industry this has evolved into amount of streams instead as that is the criteria today. Spotify publishes stream counts and followers of all artists.

I have worked as a volunteer on Discogs.com for 15 years, so we have a shared interest in the music industry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aucgruppen (talkcontribs) 02:42, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AFC Helper News[edit]

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Who holds the Record for most overall Grammy wins by a woman. I used wiki and answered Beyonce as it says she is #1. According to the Quiz on Google. That is incorrect. It stays Alison Krauss. Regarding Notability tag placed by you[edit]

Hi, hope you are going well. Yesterday, you placed a Notability tag on Deepak Kalal which I earlier believed to be notable passing GNG and he has been in the news various times. Well, later I added more citation and information to prove the Notability. I think now this is notable article and you can remove your tag. Also, you can review it. Dear Sir/Ma'am,

With all due respect the operation that I stated in my article is a well known Operation in Pakistan. However as the Operation was held in 1992 it is not as frequent in the news as it should be. What makes the operation and its story unique is that this operation was responsible for the unification of the dress code for both an officer and a soldier. Regards,

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022[edit]

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello TheWikiholic,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 809 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 861 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022[edit]

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello TheWikiholic,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 15077 articles, as of 02:00, 28 April 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022[edit]

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello TheWikiholic,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

October 2022[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on 2022 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Venkat TL (talk) 20:38, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BRD[edit]

Hi, Are you familiar with the WP:BRD process. If you add something and it gets removed by another user, you should not add it until a consensus is achieved according to the WP:DISPUTERESOLUTION methods.

Right now both articles are protected and have been reverted to a version that is not mine and is a version before the recent edit warring disputes. I need your support and cooperation to prevent any further edit warring on the election pages. Or else the admins will protect the page and it cannot be updated anymore. If WP:BRD is violated and a second revert is made, those should be reported. I have said more on Talk:2022_Himachal_Pradesh_Legislative_Assembly_election#Status_Quo_version_of_5_October_restored and Talk:2022_Gujarat_Legislative_Assembly_election#Status_Quo_version_of_11_October_restored. New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022[edit]

Hello TheWikiholic,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.

Early end of the backlog drive[edit]

A few days ago, new page patrollers got the backlog to zero. Due to the unprecedented success of the backlog drive, it will be ending early—at the end of 24 October, or in approximately two hours.

Barnstars will be awarded as soon as the coords can tally the results. Streak awards will be allocated based on the first three weeks of the drive, with the last three days being counted as part of week three.

Great work everyone! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:50, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article List of awards and nominations received by Manju Warrier has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I have just moved the article to the main page of the actress Manju Warrier. After going through the article its too small there is no need of this sub page. As a reader moving to another page is time consuming for a small article. In recent scenarios many articles are not sub divided to post awards and filmography to another sub page if the lists are small. In this scenario this article is small and can be added to the main page itself

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:01, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your information in the discussion. However, if you want me to reply you next time, please "@" me because I cannot put everything into my watchlist. I would not have known that you replied if I didn't conduct random checks. Same case for Lionfox0909; I don't think the user can read your reply unless he/she checked the discussion or put every article he/she edited into his/her watchlist. All in all, thanks for your hard work on AfD! Timothytyy (talk) 10:42, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would like to ask for assistance involving adding Sam Smith to the best selling artists page[edit]

Now I added everything and checked everything twice now I can provide links if you need them but here are Sam’s certifications, of which they sold over 100M units

USA 🇺🇸 Certifications: Certified Single Sales: 55,000,000 Certified Album Sales: 8,000,000 Total: 63,000,000

HengeBoy This 101 Million certification is mostly generated by streaming and digital downloads and is not equivalent to 100 M units in sales. So I would recommend you wait until he adds a few more million to the totals.— TheWikiholic (talk) 03:19, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In general or an certain market? HengeBoy (talk) 04:32, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In general TheWikiholic (talk) 04:37, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

But Post Malone is in with 80M, clearly not all of that is sales. HengeBoy (talk) 04:37, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Post Malone has more total available  certifications  (174.4M) compared to Sam Smith. That's why he is in the 80 M sales club. TheWikiholic (talk) 04:56, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn’t Sam still good for the 80M mark since their obviously passed the 100M? HengeBoy (talk) 12:13, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No. Since Sam Smith and Post Malone began charting the same period, Sam Smith needs to have a similar amount of certified sales as Post Malone TheWikiholic (talk) 13:53, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, Sam has a lot of USA eligible certifications which would put them in the 120M WW units, where would that put them? HengeBoy (talk) 15:17, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Artist certifications are rarely up to date. So it's not appropriate to add an artist based on eligible certifications unless it's been covered by multiple independent reliable sources. Please have a look here TheWikiholic (talk) 16:37, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, of course, what I’m asking is when Sam has 120M certified units WW, would that put that them in the best selling list with 80M? HengeBoy (talk) 16:55, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Article titles[edit]

Hello. I thought you were experienced in creating articles and were familiar with where they should be located, but you created Del Rey's song article at an article title with a capital "A" in the middle of a sentence and a curly apostrophe. Please see MOS:CT and bear in mind that we do not use curly apostrophes on Wikipedia, including in titles, per MOS:CURLY, as they cannot be typed by the majority of keyboards readers use. Thanks. Invitation[edit]

Hello TheWikiholic:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a two week long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unreviewed articles. The drive is running until 14 January 2023.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 2400 articles, so start reviewing articles. We're looking forward to your help! ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 13:54, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023[edit]

Hello TheWikiholic,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • There is live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.

Oasis worldwide album sales figure[edit]

Hello; you moved the article I started, Elizabeth Bowen(Actor) to draftspace. Could we move it out again? The article as is is a stub, but all the information is sourced and she's a notable figure. I don't have time to expand the article, but I figured if people could see it, others would improve it, as per the wikipedia way. With it in drafts it's just going to sit there, which doesn't seem helpful to anyone who would like to find information about her. NoahB (talk) 02:49, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

April 2023[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Klete Keller. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;

Wes sideman (talk) 11:10, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

UPE on the AfC[edit]

Information icon

Hello TheWikiholic. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:TheWikiholic. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=TheWikiholic|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. US-Verified (talk) 16:30, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is apparent now that you're accepting AfC drafts for pay (i.e. one specific client based on the behavior evidence). Per the terms of use, you're required to disclose the paid edits. Please note that if you won't dislose this then I will share the evidence with the relevant sysops/checkusers and this would result in an indefinite block. Please cooperate and disclose honestly. US-Verified (talk) 16:34, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is one of the most ridiculous allegations that I ever heard. I'm a proud volunteer who have been editing Wikipedia since my school days. I challenge you to prove your allegations. Tbh these allegations are derogatory to me as well. TheWikiholic (talk) 17:50, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, I'd like to clarify that participation in "paid editing" is not inherently derogatory. Your long-standing commitment as a volunteer editor since your school days is truly commendable, particularly your contributions to Michael Jackson-related topics. Nevertheless, it is apparent that in the past one to two years, you have engaged in reviewing several articles or accepting them through AfC in exchange for payment. Private evidence, which is sufficiently clear, backs this, and it could potentially lead to an indefinite block.
You've to understand that the client you're working with is banned on Wikipedia. As someone of your experience and wisdom, I trust that you'll understand the implications of this subtle hint. I would kindly ask you to disclose this truthfully, as no actions will be taken against you for being transparent. Thanks. US-Verified (talk) 22:34, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I consider being part of any kind of UPE to be unethical and being accused of it hence derogatory to me.
You cannot simply come and accuse someone with some random editors who were already blocked ages ago.
You have already accused another editor of similar allegations here and you are also accused of the same here. And can you please explain to me what types of edits are these? 1, 2, 3, 4,5,6
Do you have any other alternative accounts? Your editing behavior is certainly not of a new editor. TheWikiholic (talk) 13:16, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment @US-Verified: I'd like to ask (and I'm not making an accusation, just merely asking) whether this editor was paid to intervene on behalf of a blocked user at Klete Keller. Defeedme had an obsession with the lead of that article, and after being blocked, has continued to harass from countless IP addresses. TheWikiholic, despite having no previous interest in Jan. 6 participants or Olympic athletes, showed up out of nowhere on 6 April 2023 and advocated vehemently for Defeedme's position. It's all circumstantial evidence but it seems like too much to just be mere coincidence. Wes sideman (talk) 12:54, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you have any such concerns you better take the issue to a cu.— TheWikiholic (talk) 13:33, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did not ask if you were a sockpuppet/sockmaster. I asked if you were paid for editing Klete Keller. Wes sideman (talk) 14:23, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've already explained it above. You can accuse me of anything like I'm careless or even have personal bias. But this is beyond that and personally very excruciating to me as well. TheWikiholic (talk) 14:56, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wes sideman Good point raised. Please share your thoughts and diffs on the SPI: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/TheWikiholic. Thank you. US-Verified (talk) 18:18, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked for sockpuppetry[edit]

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 1 month for abusing multiple accounts per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/TheWikiholic. Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text at the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.   -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 17:49, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my full comment at the SPI. It elaborates on the removal of your new page reviewer and autopatrolled perms and includes a warning: Going forward, you must treat these accounts as if they were alts of the same person, whether or not you acknowledge meatpuppetry has occurred here. In particular see WP:ILLEGIT bullets "Creating an illusion of support" and "Contributing to the same page or discussion with multiple accounts". Further tag-teaming will likely lead to indefblocks without further warning. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 17:50, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

The evidence in the SPI doesn't prove Truthguardian is my sock or I ever had offline or online coordination with them. I have been editing Michael Jackson-related articles for almost 10 years now and I don't feel the decision to block me and revoke my flags is without considering my arguments and the truth. I have no connection with TruthGuardian and I don't need any kind of help from them to edit Wikipedia. The CU investigation clearly says I'm not connected with them. For the allegations of I'm using a VPN and proxy, I've already sent the photos of my passports to (to Tamzin) to prove my arguments and to better paint a picture of reality. Please have a look and reconsider your decision. I'm not Truthguardian nor do I know them. If I was any other editor or had more than 1 account, I would have already disclosed it long ago. I'm not foolish enough to get blocked like this and risk the removal of my flags. If there is anything that needs to be clarified please let me know. Thanks in advance. While some of the specifics continue to get slightly different thoughts between here and the SPI page, the fundamentals have now been reviewed by four individuals (not including myself) and been endorsed as such. Nosebagbear (talk) 10:59, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

The fundamentals have kept evolving around me and Truthguardian being the same editor, to similar edits on one specific topic, and to overlapping on the same wikiproject. At this point I am legitimately confused as to what the block is actually for. If you have all gone through the past allegations related to these allegations it's obvious that TruthGaurdian’s presence has always caused me trouble with similar meat puppetry allegations. I have told the truth, provided proof of my travels, and went a step above to provide details including my passport details to prove that I'm not using any proxy servers or VPN. 'I would be somewhat surprised if these two accounts were operated by the same individual. These kind of remarks are mere speculations. Is it not possible to check the IPs of TruthGuardians to confirm this? If their IP is constant in one area or based on a specific region or country? Mine should be based in one specific region until about mid-February. I am truly at a lost as to how we can both be considered the same individual. How on earth can these two accounts can be operated by the same individual? If I had been operating both accounts, I would have preferred to disclose it rather than going through this kind of harassment and trouble. Like I said before, I’ve worked incredibly hard and passionately here on Wikipedia over the years to have all of my accomplishments despite legal threats, through Wikipedia and abusive messages and comments through my social media accounts from pro-government supporters. What is happening now is nothing short speculations at the highest order and they have become very disheartening and discouraging. TheWikiholic (talk) 18:19, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I've reviewed what you've said, what the checkusers have said, the SPI, and so on. Whether or not you use proxies is not really the issue (it's not prohibited to use a proxy if it's not currently blocked), but rather the substantial evidence that your and TruthGuardian's editing has been coordinated in some way or another. This is not the first time that's come up, there's a lot of evidence toward it, and I am inclined to believe that something is going on there that we aren't getting the full picture on. Request reason:

The evidence produced in the SPI was related to reviewing three pages within about 15 minutes in the last two or three months or so that was accepted by Truthguardian through AFC. Even if I'm not a prolific reviewer like Onel5969, JTtheOG, or Mccapra I was also always listed among the top 50 reviewers in the past. And during my reviews, I mostly reviewed pages that were recently submitted. There was a similar discussion when I moved a page from the main space to the draft space as well. I never reviewed the pages because Truthguardisn accepted these pages or asked me to. Ever. As you all know the page curation tool never shows who accepted the pages. Instead, they only show who created it. I only checked the edit history of the page to see if the creator is a blocked editor. When it comes to the old SPI allegation against Truthguardian It's clear that I'm not part of it. I've been editing Wikipedia for more than 9 years now and I used to edit various topics including Michael Jackson. Compared to me, Truthguardian is a relatively new user as he only started editing Wikipedia in 2019. Compared to Truthguardian, my edits are far more diverse in topics. So I believe it's not fair to make a decision based on article overlap. If that's the case, I have far more article overlap with these editors 1,2 and 3,4.It's been almost two weeks now since I've been blocked for something I have never done. Again, I repeat, these sock puppetry allegations and meat puppetry allegations, and these alleged coordination activities are not based in reality and I swear that I never engaged in such activities, nor will I ever engage in such activities in the future. I humbly request that this decision is reconsidered and with a deeper perspective.TheWikiholic (talk) 17:58, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Acknowledging receipt of your email, TheWikiholic. I have said everything I have to say about this block at this time. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 07:43, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your email[edit]

This is to acknowledge that I received your email. Please do not send me the documents you proposed sending. There is nothing I would do with them other than delete them (and @Tamzin I recommend you do the same). They would not have any bearing on your block and are not the sort of thing you should be sharing anyway. I have already reported the findings of my checkuser investigation at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/TheWikiholic and the confidentiality requirements imposed on me by WP:CUPRIVACY prevent me from saying anything further. -- RoySmith (talk) 19:53, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any reason, personally, to delete the files (which don't contain any personally identifiable information) unless TheWikiholic wants me to, but I've already commented at the SPI regarding why their contents don't change anything. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 20:05, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I had a feeling that those who commented on the SPI had a feeling that Truthguardian and I are the same person. Even Tamzin said, I lean toward these accounts probably not being the same person (maybe 55% confidence). So it means you also had some doubts. I wanted to make it very clear that I'm not any other editor, nor do I ever use any proxy whatsoever, because I don’t need to. I don't know how to prove this meat puppetry allegation is wrong, to be honest. I've been on the wiki since 2013 and TruthGuardian has been on the wiki since 2019 only. I've edited the pages that we overlapped way before them. Perhaps I can show you more editors that I have similar (even greater) article overlap, including admins. Could this too be taken as evidence of meat puppetry? Not only do I feel as though there is sufficient evidence of such allegations, I am devastated over these false allegations. I’ve worked incredibly hard here on Wikipedia over the years and to have all of my accomplishments flushed down the toilet over this is disheartening, discouraging, and wrong. TheWikiholic (talk) 03:55, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tamzin @Spicy @RoySmith - apologies for bucking against the trend of editors I respect, but my review of the admin and public evidence is that the evidence may be suggestive of sock/meat-puppetry but could be also reasonably explained by poor judgement. That's not a great defence, but certainly preferable. I'm aware that we usually prefer to avoid using AN for review of sock/meat cases, but what is the logical appellate route otherwise here? Some mutually agreed reviewers? ArbCom? Community and damned be the messiness? tl;dr I'm not convinced this isn't poor judgement/checking rather than outright 'puppets. Nosebagbear (talk) 21:31, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nosebagbear: If I thought this were the purest kind of meatpuppetry, i.e. one editor acting only as a proxy for the other, I would have indeffed (or at least indeffed the newer account). The reason for these month-long blocks is because I found adequate evidence of inappropriate coordination, but not enough to conclude that's all the accounts were here for. That said, the last thing I ever want is to mistakenly block someone as a sockpuppet/meatpuppet/inappropriate-off-wiki-coordinator, especially because many admins dislike reviewing such determinations de novo in unblock requests, so I absolutely welcome further scrutiny here. I think the best approach would be to either ask at WT:SPI/C if 2 or 3 clerks/CUs would be interested in reviewing the evidence here, or alternately at WP:AN (and, if you don't want this to become a community review, making clear that the post is just a request for admins to come comment here). -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 21:50, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nosebagbear Although the block isn't a checkuser-block, for various reasons, I think it would be best if the review was performed by a CU. There are some notes in cuwiki which may be relevant but can't be made public. -- RoySmith (talk) 21:50, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@RoySmith@Tamzin - that seems reasonable, and if there is a bit to review on cuwiki then obviously a CU or two would be the best route. Any particularly logical reviewers? Yamla and Blablubbs? Nosebagbear (talk) 22:12, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd leave it to the normal self-selection process. I'd imagine there's a few CUs watching this page. -- RoySmith (talk) 22:59, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nosebagbear: I'm not sure if I count as particularly logical, but I'm somewhat familiar with the case so I'll give it a shot:
TheWikiholic has occasionally used proxies to connect to Wikipedia. Regardless, they have a distinct technical profile from TruthGuardians, and I think "technically unrelated" is a fair assessment here; CU cannot prove negatives, but I would be somewhat surprised if these two accounts were operated by the same individual.
That said, I think behaviour is the far more interesting element here, and – even from a fairly surface-level examination – the behavioural convergence pointed out by Spicy is indicative of something untoward going on here – and that's before we consider the content of the pages under discussion in the SPI. I've trained both Spicy and Tamzin as clerks, and if both of them are in agreement that they hear quacking, then I'm fairly comfortable stating that there is most probably a duck in the room. --Blablubbs (talk) 23:09, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I felt it worth additional eyeballs and if those align with the current viewpoint than all the better. Cheers, Nosebagbear (talk) 23:17, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now that Blabbs has chimed in, I'll add that from my point of view, I'm concerned that TWH continues to deny proxy use when the CU evidence makes that hard to give credence. Once you can no longer trust what a person is saying, your options are limited. -- RoySmith (talk) 01:00, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nosebagbear, Blablubbs, and RoySmith, I have never used a proxy or VPN to edit Wiki. Back in India I mostly either used my mobile data or wifi in my home to edit Wikipedia. Similarly, I edit Wiki from my mobile data and one of two wifi networks while in the UAE. I used Wifi in Oman as well. On one or two occasions, I used the free wifi in the metro as well, but I don't remember editing Wikipedia during this time. I can assure you that me and Truthguardian are 100% different editors/people. They only began using Wikipedia in 2019. Compared to me it's a relatively new account. If you check the past SPI investigation against them, they passed them, even during a time when there were a lot of new accounts created. Even though TruthGuardian presence often favours my edits, it has always caused me trouble with similar meatpuppetry allegations. I always tried my best to avoid such allegations by carefully choosing not to edit some of the same pages (pages on my watchlist) that he’s already edited, because of the overzealousness of some editors to make similar false allegations of meat/sock puppetry. It’s an unnecessary headache, but at the same time unfair to me as I have edited Wikipedia and some of the articles far longer. As I can recall, I have not even added a messages to his talk page too to avoid canvassing allegations. If I ever even noticed that those pages were already accepted by Truthguardian I would never had marked them as patrolled. I never needed any kind of help or support from Truthguardian or any other editor ever. I've been editing Wiki way before they even knew was an edit was. If there is anything that needs to be clarified or need any proof regarding the proxy or VPN please let me know. I want to prove these allegations false. Apart from editing, I'm not really good with this technical side so please let me know how I can prove I never used any proxy or VPN. Thanks in advance. GS alert[edit]

Sorry, I should have done this at the same time I blocked, but I'd frankly forgotten this was a GS area, and you don't seem to have been notified of it previously. Going forward, please be aware of the following:

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in Michael Jackson. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Thanks. Feel free to remove this alert if you wish. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 19:03, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023[edit]

Hello TheWikiholic,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Regarding Mohun Bagan[edit]

Why did you reopen the merger discussion and restore the Mohun Bagan SG page? Even involved users can proceed with merger if consensus is there. There was little objection to the merger. Before I took the final step, the thread was lying inactive with overwhelming support for merger. Even after merger, no one objected to it. So I am reverting your unilateral action. You are welcome to start a discussion in the Mohun Bagan AC talk page if you have any objection. Mohunbagani (talk) 14:13, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have started a new discussion at Talk:Mohun Bagan SG. Please have a look. TheWikiholic (talk) 15:30, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New pages patrol needs your help![edit]
