Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Map of Mauritania
Thanks for liking my work :) If you really like it, you should check our Morwen's maps, she was the very major major inspiration for my work. I was planning on working alphabetically, having done only A (and tiny countries like Djibouti) but I'll see what I can do and push Mauritania up to the top of the list. :) --Golbez 21:03, Feb 19, 2005 (UTC)
- However, I could use some help. How familiar are you with Mauritania? I have conflicting maps on the shape of Dakhlet Nouadhibou. Compare this map from the CIA (which I usually consider by far the best source) with this map from Magellan. All non-CIA maps I find use the same shape as in the Magellan one, that shows Dakhlet Nouadhibou as having a "panhandle" that goes east above Inchiri. Do you know which of these is more accurate? --Golbez 21:36, Feb 19, 2005 (UTC)
- Never mind; mauritania.fr (As best an authoritative source as I can find) has the Magellan map. So I whipped it up, went faster than most maps due to all the straight lines. :) How does it look? --Golbez 05:23, Feb 20, 2005 (UTC)
You're welcome
I'm glad you like it. :) As I said, I'm working on all the nations, more or less in order, and I'm making stubs for the regions as I get to them, so don't worry about that. I just figured, it was about time we had subdivision maps of every country, and then work from there. Have any other particular requests you'd like me to do next? :) (Oh, and by the way, if you sign your posts with ~~~~, it links your name, making it easier to get to your page) --Golbez 20:50, Feb 21, 2005 (UTC)
Faroe islands stubs
Hi Sdrawkcab, could you please explain why you split Hestur, Hestur off from Hestur? I really can't see why that tiny island and its tiny village should not be covered together. Also, the comma notation for municipalities ("New York, New York") is appropriate only for places where it is in common usage (which is, to my knowledge, in the United States only). Best regards, Kosebamse 10:27, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Maps
No problem, always like to be appreciated. :) What in particular do you want maps of? --Golbez 03:24, August 12, 2005 (UTC)
- LOL, good choices, Suriname and Guyana. Guess what?
- I already made them :D I uploaded them to Commons back in early July, I just hadn't gotten around to adding them to articles yet, got sidetracked with other issues. I'll do that now. ;) As for French Guiana, I had been avoiding "second level divisions" (which the arrondisements are) and especially third level ones (districts), but I'll look into it. :) --Golbez 18:37, August 12, 2005 (UTC)
- I put the Suriname maps up, I put the main Guyana map up but since there are only three articles, and one is a bit.. weird, I decided to wait until some stubs had been made. You can insert them easily if you want :) --Golbez 18:45, August 12, 2005 (UTC)
- There's still a few countries without maps, I keep a list of them at home. --Golbez 18:46, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
Pictures removed from "History of Suriname"
I have just noticed that you seem to have removed three interesting photographs I had posted on this page on 15 August 2005. Please tell me why you removed them and what has happened to them? Were they, perhaps, moved somewhere else? I look forward to hearing from you. John Hill John Hill 07:03, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
Removed pictures from "History of Suriname" and "History of French Guyana"
Thank you for replying to my query above so promptly. I take your point about the clutter on the page. I will perhaps move one or two of them to the page on "Maroons." Now, I have also noticed that you removed a photo of the Condemned Mens' block in the History of French Guyana page. I am thinking of posting this photo once again but adding to the caption the fact that the guillotine used to be positioned directly in front of this building (just about where the photographer was standing when he took the photo). I think this should increase the interest of the photo and, as photos of the prisons there seem to be very rare, I think it would be justified to have two on the same page (or perhaps I should move one to another page?). Would you agree to this? If you think they are too large I could easily shrink them. Please let me know if you have any thoughts on how best to do it.
Image Tagging for Image:DesiBouterse.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:DesiBouterse.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use GFDL to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as db-unksource.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Cinema of Ireland
None of the films were Irish productions. American or British films partly shot in Ireland with some Irish actors wouldn't really be included as Irish films. The Quiet Man, Barry Lyndon, The Devil's Own, Far and Away, etc are not considered to be Irish films, but foreign films partly shot in Ireland. Waking Ned (Devine) was not even filmed in Ireland, but on the Isle of Man. In the same way, films like V for Vendetta, The Avengers or 101 Dalmations wouldn't be considered British films, despite being set and filmed in Britain with British actors, they are still American films. Hope this clears it up. JW 11:58, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
AfD nomination of List of country nicknames
List of country nicknames, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that List of country nicknames satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of country nicknames and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of List of country nicknames during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Iain99 13:00, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
The article List of songs about Birmingham has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- A list with only two songs doesn't really qualify for its own article, and is better dealt with in its parent, List of songs about cities. If more examples come to light, fine, but so far this list is unnecessary.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rodhullandemu 23:51, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:EmailToTheUniverseCover.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:EmailToTheUniverseCover.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:05, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Embassy of Uruguay in London 2.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Embassy of Uruguay in London 2.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:38, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

A couple of points
Having seen your listing on DRV, and the prods listed about (and your response to those), there are perhaps a couple of things I can point out.
(i) Prod is for uncontroversial deletions, so yes they are one mans opinion generally in the first instance. The proper process is for you to simply remove the template now, no need for you to wait a few days. No one else is likely to come along in that forum (the talk page) an opine about the deletion if the prod template is still there, they'll either think "I agree so I do nothing and it gets deleted", or they'll think it doesn't warrant deletion and remove the template. If someone else still believes they should be deleted, that person would then raise a fuller discussion so a rough consensus of editors can be sought - someone could do this regardless of how many days the prod template is left on the article and the length of time the prod template was in place will make no difference to the final outcome of that fuller discussion. (ii) Be careful of doing things like this, which could be seen to be a violation of WP:CANVAS. I'm sure you'd be unhappy if other participants in the discussion called on their "friends" to support their point of view. --86.5.93.42 (talk) 22:03, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on High Commission of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, London, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Orphaned non-free image File:CosmicTrigger1new.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:CosmicTrigger1new.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:27, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Made in Dagenham Civic Centre Scene Screenshot.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Made in Dagenham Civic Centre Scene Screenshot.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text

below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:11, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

London Street names
Hi. Couple of editing tips:
- When adding multiple sources to the same book, consider using
sfn
and the "ref=harv" template in sources. See this edit to Street names of Marylebone for how it's done. - I don't think there's much point in adding that the origin of some name is "unknown" - people are likely to be somewhat crestfallen looking for information on here, only to be told "we don't know". Bit of a let-down really.
- If London streets are your thing, consider picking up a copy of The London Encyclopedia and browsing through the Survey of London archives on http://british-history.ac.uk - there's piles of information in both.
Hope that's of use Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 22:58, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Street names of...
Hi. I see you've been creating a series of Street names of... articles. In these, you include street names that you've listed as being of unknown etymology. Do you have a source for the fact that the etymology of these names is unknown, or do you just mean unknown to you? If it's the latter, then I think this should be removed, as it is misleading to suggest that something is unknown when there may well be knowledge of it out there that you haven't yet discovered. Non-free rationale for File:John Compton, former PM of St Lucia.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:John Compton, former PM of St Lucia.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. A New History of Western Philosophy moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, A New History of Western Philosophy, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:

When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. - Hello, You should not have recreated the article, you should have improved the draft. In its current state, the article is not ready for main space. All content must be sourced by reliable sources, and it must meet our notability guidelines for books. Please find independent reliable sources (sales pages or postings by the publisher, author etc. are not independent and do not count towards establishing notability) and add them to the article as references. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 08:26, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

The article Turbulence (2011 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non notable film with no independent 3rd party coverage.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Donaldd23 (talk) 19:22, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
Most lists of notable people do not include specific references, as long as the related article backs up the claim then that is usually sufficient. If you want to add cn tags to all of them, you are going to be very busy. noq (talk) 11:07, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- I add tags to place articles I am working on. I do think it is better to cn them, as with any other information, though you are right in that I have neither the time nor inclination to go around doing all of them. I cn them when I come across them, as with any other unsourced claim, otherwise I could pick a random village article in Russia or India that no one monitors, start adding people to it, and the information will likely stay up there for a long time. - The linked articles contain the references. Pretty much all the lists on wikipedia accept that as sufficient. If they do not, remove the unsupported names. Adding cn tags to some articles does nothing to stop someone adding random names to articles that are not being watched. noq ([[User

- Well I agree that is probably sufficient, though it is extra work for people, in that they will have to click on an extra article to confirm the information's veracity, whereas a simple reference added to the place page will save them the hassle. Also, often within the person article the place of birth etc. is not referenced - numerous articles I've come across are like this.WisDom-UK (talk) 11:25, 23 September 2020 (UTC)i
- If the linked article does not have a reference, either remove the entry or improve the linked article by adding the reference there - It is a more appropriate place for it. If you are sufficiently interested in a person to check the reference, you are likely to read their article anyway so not really saving anything. noq (talk) 09:00, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

- The fact that Wikipedia is still chock full of unreferenced statements and assertions is why many still do not take it it seriously as an academic resource. However I also cannot be bothered arguing the point ad nauseum so let's just agree to disagree. WisDom-UK (talk) 11:19, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on India-Nepal border; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Kautilya3 (talk) 23:21, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Please do not threaten me. ‘Repeatedly’ means changing more than once. I changed back the edits you made once. I am not edit warring, I am following Wikipedia protocols for border disputes and border pages which is that they are kept on one page. If you want to clog up Wikipedia with redundant pages by creating one page for X-Y border and another for x-y border dispute you will be very busy. WisDom-UK (talk) 23:26, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Page reorganisations are major edits. You don't get to them multiple times after they have been contested. Even for normal edits, the accepted practice is WP:BRD.
- As for "Wikipedia protocols", they are all written down, and you need to cite them when you refer to them. You can't make up your own protocols and expect everybody to obey them. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 13:59, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- By the way, most of your edits have been good and well-meaning and I appreciate them. You just need to be careful when disagreements arise. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 14:01, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Again, I did not make a major edit to the page 'multiple' times. I merged the pages, you reverted - I then reverted once, and you then reverted again. If you disagree with my edits, fine - but please do not misrepresent what I did as an 'edit war'. My changes were in line with standard practice, by which I mean the actual content on Wikipedia which I have been reading and editing for many years. Typically the practice I have observed is that articles with significant overlap or redundant content are merged. As it happens, I have only a passing interest in the subject - it was merely part of a wider project of improving the Asian border pages. I have a rule that if I spend more time arguing over policies or edits with people who have memorised the Wikipedia policy manual (or interpreted it in a way that suits their purposes) then I just move on, as it is not fun and I could be spending my time more productively actually improving or adding content. Do you want with the page as I am moving on to other areas. Bye.WisDom-UK (talk) 15:30, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
why not combine nominations?
Instead of nominating so many borders by country articles one at a time, why not just do a mass nomination? The reasoning you want them all gone is the same, as is the reasoning people give for wanting to keep any of them. Best to just have the conversation once in one place instead of having everyone just repeat themselves at dozens of locations. Dream Focus 21:39, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yes I will do that next time. I have not gone through the deletion process before.WisDom-UK (talk) 21:57, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
Armenia/Azerbaijan discretionary sanctions
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in Armenia, Azerbaijan, or related conflicts. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Accidental revert
I misclicked and reverted one of your edits accidentally. I have rolled back my changes, but I just wanted to let you know. --Joshua Issac (talk) 21:03, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
