Trams, mills, railways ... I think Isambard would have been proud of your approach particulary the French ideas, but he would have barred our veteran editor from further progression for supporting a railway that was merely a metre. But he's not here! So more seriously, thank you on behalf of the wiki. (Let me tell you though that the 100 one s a really cool yellowy gold colour). The 100 DYK Medal
As I told you at 50 ... the 100 DYK medal is a really cool shade of yellow. I hope you are not disappointed, as the wiki is not regretful at all of your efforts. Well done. DYK for PS Castalia

Thank you for thanking me. I actually noticed only one of the typos, but I use Firefox and it apparently spellchecks everything by default. When I went into edit mode, not only was the error I noticed underlined with a wavy line, so were other things. I had to sort out the genuine mistakes from a lot of "false positives"; I hope I didn't change anything that was right.

You are obviously a very active contributor to Wikipedia. I am mostly a consumer -- I benefit from the work you and others like you do. Thank you very much.

I have no idea whether this is the right place for this comment. You replied to my talk page and this is your talk page, so I hope it is. If not, you will move it. Gms3591 (talk) 07:21, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PD or not...

Hiya Mjroots, you may wish to see my comment at ANI regarding the copyright issues. When I'm up in Ticonderoga, Port Henry, and across the water in Vermont, I run into those cards. And you can buy them at various stores in the area. They are sold as novelties, decorations (often seen as table decorations under plexi at restaurants) and as of course post cards. Best, Rob ROBERTMFROMLI | TK/CN 10:47, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Replied at ANI. I'm not minded to restore the images until such time as the uploader indicates a willingness to work on the issues raised. Should he fail to do so, then they can stay deleted for all I care. Mjroots (talk) 10:56, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am contacting you hoping that you can clear this again. User:Taivo is inserting the "or" form after beign informed about this [2]. Your accusation that I was not engaged in discussion on the issue of Hungarian names in Transylvanian city articles is blatantly false. Not more than one inch above your unfounded accusation is the active discussion on User talk:Iadrian yu. Please amend your comment. While I disagree with Iadrian yu's characterization of whether or not a consensus was reached, that does not mean that I have not been in discussion. --Taivo (talk) 16:00, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move-protected article

Hello! In July 2011 you fully move-protected the Štěpán Koreš article, due to one editor disruptively moving articles against consensus. However, as that editor is now banned from moving any articles, is there a reason to keep the article move-protected? Even if you decide to un-protect the article, I will not move it. Semi-protection request

G'day from Oz; not sure if I'm violating protocols here, but could you please consider semi-protecting Alan Joyce (executive), who is the Qantas CEO. There has been a fair amount of argy-bargy between Qantas and some of the unions representing its employees, which has spilled a bit into the article, plus there is an IP editor seemingly hell-bent on having him labelled as an atheist - which he may or may not be, but there isn't any source saying so one way or the other AFAIK. No need to reply on my talk page at all, I will pick it up via my watchlist and keeping an eye on your talk page. Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 00:22, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done - I've given it three months semi protection. Should be long enough but the article can be unprotected before that should you decide that semi-protection in no longer necessary. Mjroots (talk) 04:23, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Righto, thanks. YSSYguy (talk) 04:57, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mjroots, I am the person "seemingly hell-bent on having him labelled as an atheist". Unfortuantely you have been misled by YSSYguy, who obviously has a POV he needs to push on this matter, regardless of what the source material says. I won't try to justify further here, but please have a look at the edits yourself and see. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.63.176.43 (talk) 07:58, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

125, I don't have a dog in this fight, nor does the truth matter all that much. As a biography of a living person, any statement needs to be back up by reliable sources. This is particularly important of statement at are, or could be perceived to be, of a negative nature. Therefore, if you can find a reliable source that backs up the assertion that the subject in question is an atheist, then raise the matter on the article's talk page. As the statement has been challenged, it is up to you to back up the statement with a source, or failing that, drop the issue. Mjroots (talk) 15:51, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. I've never made the assertion he's an atheist (I have no idea whether he is or not). The source already used in the article to indicate Joyce reads maths & science also indicates he reads the works of atheists. For some reason known only to himself, YSSYguy wishes to remove that information; no doubt he's involved in the current dispute somehow. I don't care enough to continue challenging the matter; just hate to see someone's particular philosophical position being used to hide information coming straight from an interview with the subject of the biography himself. I'm obviously new to Wikipedia, but from now on might leave it up to others to play these sorts of games. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.63.176.43 (talk) 02:56, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some disruptive editing

Hey, mj, I was hoping you might be able to take a look at the 2012 Formula One season and Talk:2012 Formula One season pages. A user, Colinmotox11 has been making some edits that have been disruptive. I posted a message on his Talk page that I think is a fair summary of the events of the past 24 hours. Basically, he has been making unsubstantiated edits to the page, ignoring preliminary consensus on the issue, undoing any subsequent reversions, using contradictory arguments to justify it and accusing members who disagree with him of violating WP:OWN. While his intentions are good - he only wants to make the page accurate - his methods and his attitude are completely unnecessary. I don't know if there is anything you or the other administrators can do, but I don't think we've heard the last of him on this matter. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 06:04, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, mj. I knew I could count on you. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 07:20, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, mj, sorry to bother you again, but can you please take a look at Colinmotox11 again? He's trying to force through changes to the 2012 Formula One season by claiming he has got consensus for them, but reading over the arguments posted on the talk page, it's clear that consensus is against him: four people support his changes, and seven do not. Can you please do something about this, because he's dangerously close to violating the three-edit rule.

Furthermore, I feel that his edits set a dangerous precedent. His footnotes in the driver table essentially create a scenario where the table says one thing, and then he gets out of it by saying something else entirely at the bottom of the table, explaining why content should not be included in the article. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 21:41, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IrAero and Avis Amur crashes

G'day, please read this message on Russavia's talk page from a speaker of Russian. Your edit to undo my changes to the crash article has also been reverted by another speaker of Russian. Cheers. YSSYguy (talk) 12:43, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First Air Flight 6560

If you mean this page the times are there. The "CYRB 201700Z" is the airport ident, 20 is the day and 1700Z is the time in Zulu time. However, there is a problem between the bolded METAR and the crash times given in the media. Resolute, Nunavut is on CDT (UTC−05:00) which means that if the accident occurred around 12:50 CDT it would be 1750Z. But the METAR in bold is for 1600Z, 1649Z and 1700Z which would be 1100 CDT, 1140 CDT and 1200 CDT. The reason it's confusing is that the reports say the accident happened 10 minutes after the last radio call which would be 12:40 CDT. Now one of the most important things we have to do as soon as possible after an accident is send out a weather observation. In this case it looks like the one at 1649Z but it's an hour before the accident and there isn't one for 1750z (1250 CDT). Hope that makes some sense. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 06:47, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I finally found the days METAR at Weather Underground, for some reason it kept wanting me to look at the AUTO station. It looks as if the Aviation Herald has all the METAR. I don't know if the weather changes rapidly in CYRB but there should have been a special when the cloud went to 500 ft prior to the 1649Z and another after that but before 1700Z. I don't know if the WU page you see is the same as what I got but I can see both CDT and ZULU. And as it's 1:10 am here I must be off. I'll check back in the morning. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 07:11, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I talked with one of the other guys at work and we went through the METAR but couldn't really come up with anything other than speculation which is not really worth repeating. One thing I just noticed is that this says who the plane was chartered by. It says he's the owner of the hotel but he's much more than that see ozzie kheraj or aziz kheraj. Messerschmitt Me 321 accident

Hi MJ. I found a ref to an accident in testing of the Messerschmitt Me 321- I quote "Another test flight, made with a fully-loaded Gigant, established a grim record. As the glider was just airborne, the rockets on one side failed to ignite; the huge machine veered under asymmetric thrust, dragging the Troika together, and the three Mell0s crashed into each other and dragged the Gigant down as well. The glider had been carrying troops and the death roll was 129 men, probably the world's worst aircraft disaster up to that time." This is from "The Secret War" Brian Johnson BBC 1978 ISBN 0563 174250 page 263. "Nest of eagles: Messerschmitt production and flight-testing at Regensburg 1936-1945" by Peter Schmoll makes no mention of this accident; the BBC book doesn't say where it happened, but a photo on the same page refers to Leipheim. I suspect this accident didn't happen, but just thought I'd let you know, as I'm passing the BBC book on to a charity shop tomorrow. Ning-ning (talk) 11:53, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

William Green's Warplanes of the Third Reich also mentions this crash as occuring during testing, although it does not give a date or location.Nigel Ish (talk) 12:25, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds as though there may be just enough sources to make an entry in the relevant list of accidents involving military aircraft. Mjroots (talk) 12:54, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Geotags, Grid refs etc,

There are problems with your suggestion- which is the reason I haven't done it. There is a discussion forum Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geographical coordinates that is discussing the whole thing. The crux is that many people are unhappy if the link goes to one site, no matter how useful, and believes that the link should only go to GeoHack, where the reader can choose the map they want. There are a lot of unhappy people there. I have a problem with the way we are doing the conversion. It looks great, but if we edit either gridref or the location then the other doesn't change. In looking for a solution, I have been looking at the maths and a lot doesn't add up, this coupled with the volatility of forum, I have been hanging back. ClemRutter (talk) 18:32, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there, and thanks for the contact. To me this looks good, but (and it is a big but) I'm afraid the issue appears more complex and contentious than I had first anticipated. I'm also not particularly "clued-up" about which system is good and which is bad, which seems to be part of an ongoing debate. All I know is that there should be a standard system, and these should be included as part of the text for settlements in the UK. Have you taken this to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geographical coordinates? -- Jza84 · (talk) 23:15, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox geotags- looks as it will take some time. Its on my list! ClemRutter (talk) 01:28, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Checking inline geotags

  • Now the accuracy of OStoWiki has been corrected (+/- 2m) all previous references may need tweaking.
  • The GeoHack tool now has a new interface and at the bottom of the GB section, under the dangerously inaccurate grid reference is a fantastic tool called Map of all Coordinates in article.
  • I tried it on the Loose stream, and because of it I I'm going to make another tweak to OStoWiki.

ClemRutter (talk) 21:45, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is perfectly safe to use: the next tweak will be an enhancementClemRutter (talk) 23:59, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oscoor

Thanks for the reminder. Although I use OS maps within multimap to find things, multimap gives DMS output, and the numbering of the OS gridlines in the display tends to be hidden; so I tend to think I'm not ever going to use {{oscoor}}. However your intervention did cause me to go back and read the national grid system article, so as to understand the resolution of various lengths of OS coordinate. As I would not have done this without your intervention; thanks! --Tagishsimon (talk) 15:41, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with gbmapping and oscoor templates

Hi, There seems to be a small inaccuracy in the translation of OSGB coords to WGS84. I've mentioned it here and here but haven't found anyone who might be able to fix it. Do you know where it would be best to raise it, please?--Cavrdg (talk) 20:45, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grid refs

I did not like having to display grid refs without spaces. At long last I have got round to asking someone and doing this very simple edit. The php that it calls was already prepared to receive spaces. That means you could do this edit to other articles that call oscoor (which is now a redirect). But certainly, I suggest using {{gbmappingsmall}} in any future case. — [[::User:RHaworth|RHaworth]] (talk · contribs) 18:59, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Windmill in War Horse film

Hello Mjroots. I see you are a windmill expert. I have done some work on the locations for War Horse (film), and wonder if you could identify the windmill (?post mill) in the trailer? It appears at 1:29 trailer on YouTube. It's definitely in the UK as all location filming was done there; more than that I know not. I'm assuming it's not a built set as it would surely be cheaper to film at an existing one rather than build one. I know I'd have to find a RS to back up any identification information before putting it into the article, but if you can identify it, it might help me narrow down my search for suitable articles! Thanks Stronach (talk) 14:50, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I had assumed not because Speilberg had said that the only CGI in the film was in a trench warfare scene with a horse, for its safety. Stronach (talk) 15:07, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty sure it's CGI; the spars for the sails don't line up properly, but are staggered, and the postmill is too close to the trees. It's also rotating a bit quick considering the state of the sails, and the body of the mill isn't weatherboarded, the surrounding ground doesn't have a circular track where the miller would walk as he rotated the mill. The obturation of the field guns is woefully defective (note the explosion of smoke beneath each gun as it fires). The main street in the cardboard version of Lower Slaughter is too narrow. The MG08s are firing too slowly- the belt in the foreground doesn't seem to move up into the gun. The stahlhelms aren't camouflaged. Ning-ning (talk) 16:04, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Felipe Camiroaga

As Camiroaga isn't legally dead, his body hasn't been found and at the moment is only "disappeared", I urge you to not mark his article as a recent death, nor to call him "dead". You are violating the biographies of living people policy by doing that, and additionally, you could be sued if Camiroaga turns out to be alive. None of the bodies have been identified yet, take that into account too.  Diego  talk  19:56, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I know it is impossible that he survived the accident; however, we can't say he died until it's confirmed, for the sake of ethics! :P  Diego  talk  20:06, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Borough Green

Moved from User talk:Mjroots2

Please note I am the copyright holder of the main history book for Borough Green, Kent. I note that today I updated the link to the local history site. This had been hosted firstly on freeserve pages, more recently on tiscali. A lionk ( outdated_ to that site was on the wiki page.

Much of the content for the BG page comes from the booklet which is copyright. If you are not going to link to the pages where the history is now hosted I would be grafetul if you would remove the other information. Some of that is in the public domain. Some is copyright.

I fail to see why you have removed the link to the new site hosting anyway without any clear explanation.

Hello. I send you this message because I need assistance in one problem. You made in the past a ruling in the discussion about Hungarian names for Romanian places and gave me an advice regarding alternative names of places in articles representing biographies of living persons, so I think you are quite familiarized with this kind of issues.

The thread I am referring is this: [6]. I've tried to prevent an edit war by asking a 3rd opinion from a neutral editor, but the other person replied that "he is not obliged to accept it and and he is not going to". Please intervene in order to defuse this conflict. Thanks in advance (Iaaasi (talk) 12:59, 8 March 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Mereworth church

I'll start working on this tomorrow; looks like an interesting church. There are some similarities with what happened at Glynde down my way. As it happens, I will be going to Worthing library after work tomorrow; they hold all the Pevsner volumes, so I'll see what comment he made in the Kent edition! Thanks! I had a look in the Pevsner volume (actually written by a different chap; Nikolaus Pevsner only wrote the Foreword!) and there was a lot of material in there, so I will add this tonight. No problems, but one query. Most Church GAs have "St", not "St.". I seem to remember that contractions that end in the final letter of the full word don't take a full stop, see List_of_English_contractions, but I didn't want to move without consultation. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:39, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure, but the dab page has the full stop. I was taught to use the full stop after a contraction, but it was many years ago when we had to use our brains in class, not computers! Mjroots (talk) 13:29, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No big deal, just wanted to check that you were at least aware that there was an alternative style. My church article actually began "Saint Nicholas... " which is obviously non-standard, so I moved it to "St" (I prefer to omit the full stop, partly because I don't have it for initials in refs, and partly because it looks a bit American these days, like Mr. and Dr.) Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:43, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In British English the correct form is to add a full stop to abbreviations, unless the last letter of the abbreviation is the same as the last letter of the word abbreviated, so "St" is the proper abbrev. for "Saint".
Co.  • abbrev. 1 company. 2 county. (Pearsall 1999, p. 272)

Rivers

Earlier discussions are archived here

Mike I feel quite pleased with myself! I had found the relatively new Geobox|rivers at River Trent and investigated. You will now see the result at this article (I took an easy one first!). There may well be other information - I couldn't work out the coordinates, and in any case a river covers more than one; couldn't find the exact length; and dunno if there is anywhere to be able to get flow rates etc. You may well be able to add more tributaries - I took the ones you had alraedy mentioned under the mills. None of the blanks come out until you give some information. I had also discovered the exact location of the source - a historical document on the Medway; I'm sure you also know more about its course, although perhaps that isn't too important. Peter Peter Shearan (talk) 21:20, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mill symbols

As you see I have put two new symbols into your sandbox article. Just a quick fix. Using mills in this way is quite an extension. Come September we need to define what symbols we need- mills with weirs for example, millponds goits. I have been visiting the Dark Peak and realise how much more important water engineering was in the 1780s and the growth of the Cotton Industry. Still I am taking a break now. ClemRutter (talk) 08:31, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have been talking with guys at WP:RIVERS and trying to work out what icon system to recommend. In a nutshell, the cyan worms are out, rivers are dark blue unless you need to differentiate- then non-navigable are light blue and navigable are darkblue. but I am still working on it. You have source at the top. River Len, Kent seems to be correct. See also Manchester Ship Canal for an upside down example. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rivers#Route diagrams gives the discussion.--ClemRutter (talk) 19:51, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Medway diagram

This takes a little thought. I like diagrams- very useful for showing mill locations- but there is a convention on canals that navigable should be darkblue and non navigable light blue. The tails as steams meet the river seem clunky. I have been concerned about the representation of reservoirs for some time- is a reservoir navigable or not- how do you show the dam bypass channel. In the simple case: a truncated salami would do- but they often are constructed at the confluence of several rivers. A lot of icons need some thought- and that will take a little time- I will put it on the list. (Some mills are on the wrong bank but that is minor). --ClemRutter (talk) 11:56, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have put in far too many hours playing with the diagram on my talk page. Please look over- and see if there is anything to add- you will need to proof read the position of the mills relative to the new locks, and the addition of the Beult and the two mouths of the Teise. I have added some new icons to Template:Waterways legend particularly putting curved dams on reservoirs. --ClemRutter (talk) 19:27, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To be positive: it is getting there. A few of your changes I don"t like. A river is a hydrographical item, as well as cultural one. The first uncollapsed diagram needs to stand in its own right, and give the reader basic infomation about its course. The collapsed bits need to show the twidddly bits, that the Teise at Yalding has bifurcated, and where mills were situated. When the course is a navigation we need info on the locks. Background colour needs to show whether the river is tidal, a navigation, or non-navigable. The section names are taken from the NRA, and are used by the waterways community- I don't think Lower Mid Upper is really informative. The whole diagram (uncollapsed) needs to be complete and informative in itself. I think that we should do another round of rollbacks and improvement then wrap it in a template and ask the WP:RIVERS for comment on any points where policy decisions need to be made. I would like to use it as a model to be attached to their policy page. I then want to code up the River Etherow, Irk, Irwell, Medlock, Goyt can't you just smell the cotton. --ClemRutter (talk) 13:08, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, width is critical when using collapsable box- expand all the section to see it isn't broken by the change. Titles a lot better- I took one look and thought- I knew I was about to to do that-- but I can't remember having done it. These wretched dock icons look awful- I am going to redo them- I cant see why a narrow dock should be five times wider than the river. I am more concerned about the length if the diagram, then allowing the diagram to be included in Kent pages that make a mention to the Medway. Then into Infoboxes.I am uploading images along the commons:Portland Basin- Ashton Canal at the moment.--ClemRutter (talk) 11:40, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know this one? Template:Medway Navigation--ClemRutter (talk) 13:25, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well it is certainly ready to be wrapped in a template- so I have. We can do further editing there {{River Medway map}}. I did do one change as the Tidal estuary is downstream from Rochester.

True. There is a limit to the sort of ship you can drive under Rochester Bridge. I think the commissioner of HM Dockyard would agree with me. The London Stone is at Upnor, which is/was the upstream limit of the Port of London- but Rochester is miles from the Swale or Thames. This wrretched river never does things simply!--ClemRutter (talk) 08:16, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have been putting a bit of input into Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rivers‎; that may interest you. Later tonight I will be posting some of the changes. --ClemRutter (talk) 17:52, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I notice you have updated the River Waveney map, but was a little surprised to see that it now runs from south to north. One of the problems of the transposition is that several of the adjoining rivers are now shown on the wrong side. Oulton Broad should be on the other side, as should the River Yare, and the Haddiscoe cut is no longer clearly labelled. I was going to try to sort it out but am a bit short of time at the moment. Bob1960evens (talk) 18:52, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am back from holiday now, and have moved Oulton Broad, Haddiscoe Cut and the River Bure back to where they should be, corrected the direction of the locks, and produced a windmill symbol for the windmills. However, I have no sources for which side of the river the windmills should be on, and as the river and Haddiscoe Cut have now been transposed, wondered if you could just check them. Thanks. Ships

Earlier discussions are archived here

Burntisland Shipbuilding Co Ltd

I'm drafting an article about Burntisland Shipbuilding Co Ltd. The Burntisland.net website includes a history of the company and shipyard and a very useful complete list of ships built. However, I have been unable to resolve discrepancies between Wikipedia material about two ships with details of them on on the Burntisland.net list.

  • Burntisland.net and WP agree that hull 336 was launched in 1950 as the coaster MV London and spent the next 16 years as MV Winsor Trader. WP adds that she then traded under four other names until being renamed in 1998 MV Adolphus Busch, which is the name under which her WP article appears. However, WP has also a redirect for MV Winsor Trader that leads to the US Navy ship Empire State V, which seems to have nothing in common with hull 336 apart from being launched in about the same year.

Many merchant ships get renamed, many names get re-used and this sometimes creates potential for confusion. However, in these two cases I am unable to verify whether everything on either WP or Burntisland.net is correct. Please will you help me to resolve the apparent discrepancies for these two ships? Thanks, Motacilla (talk) 11:49, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for your help with these queries. I have now created he article as Burntisland Shipbuilding Company, drawing mainly on Grace's Guide and Burntisland.net. I've created a number of links to the article and also one to its counterpart on German WP.
A spate of cancelled orders suggests the Burntisland company must have faced a serious crisis in 1959–60. Do you know if was a wider crisis in British merchant shipping or World shipping at about that time? Half of the cancelled orders were from Power Steam Ship Co, associated with someone called O. Gross. I don't know who this is but I wonder if Gross's business interests went into receivership at that time.
The company's financial crisis over the MV Ohrmazd in 1967–69 seems another rather fraught tale that deserves further elucidation. Hansard includes various comments on Burntisland's plight, particularly during and after the company's liquidation, but it will take a while for me to sift through the Parliamentary comments and see what they can add to the shipyard's history.
Best wishes, Motacilla (talk) 16:55, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou for all your suggestions on sources. I've now sifted Hansard from which I've been able to add a 20-year saga of political anxiety from 1959 to 1979 over the future of the Burntisland yard and the town that so largely depended on it. As to individual ships, I've given the article what I hope is a strategic selection of redlinks to some of the ships that may be of particular historical interest and therefore perhaps deserve individual articles in due course.
I've now spent as much time on Burntisland as I dare. I must urgently get back to my work that I've been neglecting in the real World!
Best wishes, Motacilla (talk) 11:09, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AN suggestion

Next time you post about an issue to WP:AN, it would be helpful if you refrained from systematically misrepresenting the situation, and if you made some effort to notify all involved parties rather than just the one who you misleadingly claim agrees with you.

As I set out in detail at WP:AN

  • Mjroots has created a large series of pointless navboxes, by relying on the essay WP:NBFILL, and appears not to have read the relevant guidelines WP:NAVBOX and WP:REDNOT
  • Over 40 of these navboxes have been nominated at TFD, and in not one case has anyone other than Mjroots supported keeping any of them
  • Apart from the !votes at TFD, 3 other editors have explicitly opposed Mjroots's use of the navboxes: User:PamD, User:Weakopedia and User:Ssilvers. Those editors should have been notified of this complaint.
  • The comment by ClemRutter was not that the navboxes should be kept, but rather that it was too much hassle to delete them
  • No other editor has supported Mjroots's creation of these navboxes for small villages, and no other editor has supported Mjroot's padding them out with links which breach WP:NAVBOX

I have asked there for advice on whether your sustained misconduct is better addressed at WP:ANI or through an RFC/U. But it would really be much much much much much much much much much much much much much easier for everybody if you would simply read WP:NAVBOX and WP:REDNOT.

You have

  • falsely accused me of vandalism
  • falsely accused me "degrading" templates by removing links which do not meet the criteria in WP:NAVBOX and WP:REDNOT
  • falsely accused me of trying to disguise those removals from TFD
  • falsely claimed that my concerns are not shared by others

... and despite several attempts by me to engage with you on the application of WP:NAVBOX and WP:REDNOT to your navboxes, you choose not to continue those discussions, but instead to make a bogus complaint to the Admin's Noticeboard.

You are an admin, and the community expects that you should know better than to engage in such shoddy conduct. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:11, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was required to notify ClemRutter per the notice when posting at AN, as I had mentioned him in the post. I've not yet read your reply, and will do so next. As I made clear at AN, I was trying to seek some uninvolved input. Mjroots (talk) 19:44, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you want outside input, open an WP:RFC on the topic. But please don't try a repetition of your false claims at AN, such as your bogus assertion that only three of us have commented so far. If you were acting in good faith, you would withdraw this nonsense without needing to be asked.
But as it say at the top of WP:AN, "These pages are not the place to raise disputes over content, or reports of abusive behaviour". You used WP:AN to raise a dispute over content, and make bogus suggestions of abusive behaviour. Bad idea. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:16, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Online Ambassadors

I saw the quality of your contributions at DYK and clicked on over to your user page and was pretty impressed. Would you be interested in helping with the WP:Online_Ambassadors program? It's really a great opportunity to help university students become Wikipedia contributers. I hope you apply to become an ambassador, Sadads (talk) 16:21, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure what you think you are unqualified at. You seem to be quite the content developer and have experience in several processes which our students are participating in. Also, you don't show any signs of being particularly hostile to any users. Is there anything in particular you are concerned with? Sadads (talk) 14:25, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not to be too persistent, but I feel you are doubting yourself a bit too much. Some thoughts on your reasoning: Many of us don't use IRC, only a small group is regularly on it and we have enough ambassadors now, not everyone needs to chip in (I use other communication channels with my students like email, facebook chat and gchat). Also, in both cases of disagreement it appears that you responded with civility in response to both cases and you do not appear to be deliberately provoking other users. If you mention both cases and your lessons learned in the application, I would be surprised if you didn't pass (we are looking for a history of aggressive behaviour not passionate misunderstanding or temporary poor judgement, User:Piotrus for instance is an Ambassador, but has had a considerable Arbcom case to his name). You also appear to be genuinely welcoming and helping new users from the looks of your contributions. Think of the Ambassador program as a chance to make positive impact on students! Whether or not you choose to apply, I would like to say good luck editing and don't doubt your own ability to be an empathetic and helpful contributer! Speciality

Hi

So, rather than me keep posting notes asking you for advice :¬) what is your speciality in terms of Wiki, is it history of air transport, aircraft or facilities etc.?

And, in case it is general aircraft history, have you any idea what the aircraft registration K- prefix was used for in the 1920s?

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of List of accidents and incidents involving the DC-3 in the 1960s, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: List of accidents and incidents involving the DC-3 in the 1970s. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 16:02, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

These edits increased the number of tomorrow's "On this day" items from 7 to 14. But the usual number is 5 or 6, as you can see by going through Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/June. Historic houses

Nothing irritates me more than editors like you scoffing at other editors telling them what they should be doing. In fact you've probably deterred Rosie from bothering with these now when the topic is so poorly covered half decent stubs on them is the way to go. Virtually all articles Rosie creates are easily start class articles and well on their way to GA quality. Just look how many decent DYKs she has. Why the hell shouldn't she or I create a few referenced stubs every now and again? If the articles can't be expanded later we wouldn't start them. Not every is like you and wishes to only create an article at GA quality. I personally try to balance my editing between higher quality start-GA class new articles and stub building using sources and some content. You do not, but it is not your place to order others when there is nothing wrong with sourced stubs. As for prodding/notability that's absolute rubbish, a google book search proves this. Just let people get on with it please. Thanks a lot.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:01, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Personally, I aim to create at least a C class article wherever possible, and frequently create a B class article. "
Seriously, do you not think we would also like every article to be at least GA class we and everybody else creates? Did you not see Arreton Manor, Knighton Gorges Manor, Great Budbridge Manor etc? There happens to be a vast amount missing for Isle of Wight and I believe it is very useful for wikipedia to create new articles about them using a public domain source. At a later date then they can be built upon. Writing every single article to GA quality requires a lot of time. It comes down to time. As long as the article contain some information and are sourced it is constructive. Maybe you were acting in good faith with some pointers , but Rosie clearly knows how to write a high quality article and how to edit. To me it looked like you were scoffing at her stubs. She writes a balance of good quality longer articles and referenced stubs as I do. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, I find it the best way to build wikipedia. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:11, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know we both have different styles of article creation. I'm not familiar with Rosie's editing style, but there was no intention to scoff or denegrate her editing. Now, why don't we both drop this until she replies? Mjroots (talk) 14:16, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly that, you are not familiar with her editing style so you are not in a place to comment on it. We (you and I MJ) may have different styles of creation but we both share the desire the promote articles to GA quality and beyond. I personally intend to promote many articles on english country houses myself and will much enjoy doing so. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:19, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I've long admired Rosie as a prolific content contributor and how well sourced and researched they usually are. She and Aymatth2 and are amongst the finest new article creators on wikipedia. If other editors were as good as her and Aymatth in the quality and range of new articles they create wikipediawould be thousands of times greater than it is right now. Anyway.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:33, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mjroots. Thanks for stopping by my talkpage and leaving your note. It's always heartening to know someone is reading what I write. I'm happy working on historic houses and their coverage can be improved on wikipedia by starting with a referenced stub. Something I am very proud of, and an example of my stub work, was the creation of hundreds of Nunavut geo stubs -- islands, lakes, bays, etc. -- later, not originally, having infoboxes, templates, stub tags, etc. I'm also a prolific writer of start, B, and C class articles. Those that got to dyk speak for themselves. For specific examples of my writing style, you can browse through my articles creation list, or dyk list, accessed from my userpage. As for the English and French historic country house stubs that I created yesterday, please give the articles a bit of time to expand. If you look at the edit history of the Nunavut geo stubs created in 2008, you'll see that they started off small but by now, several other editors have worked on each of them, adding this and that, making each of the articles informative and lovely, IMHO, while remaining a stub. I'm quite sure that in time, the country house articles that some of us are working on will be lovely, too, even if they remain a stub. As I'm an experienced editor, and an Admin as you pointed out, your remarks on my talkpage won't deter me from the work I'm doing on country houses. But other editors might feel differently if they received a similar note on their talk page. What a shame that would be... especially if they're a female (might be obvious from my username that I'm a woman) and felt hurt by the criticism of their editing, it being so unsatisfactory that there's the possibility of PROD or AFD. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:05, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. And let me know if you want to collaborate on some article... including country houses. Lol. Cheers, --Rosiestep (talk) 18:39, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mick, I'm posting this here as I think that if I post on your talk page it won't stay. The arbitration case will be closed soon and you know what the outcome will be. As others have said, you do make positive contributions to Wikipedia. The result of the case is not one of "chuck 'im out and nail the door shut behind him". The door can be opened if you want it to be, but you'll need to work at getting it open. Any ban imposed is only from en-Wiki. There are other wikis available, such as Simple or foreign language wikis. There is also Commons. If you are able to do good work there, without getting involved in all the drama, then that would assist in any request to return to en-Wiki should you wish to do so. Whatever happens, I wish you the best for the future. Mjroots (talk) 06:48, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure that was called for, but I expect many will feel the same. For me, this was never about "getting rid of" MMN, but more about getting him to interact better with other editors. There are very few editors who do absolutely no good at all, and MMN doesn't fall into that group. Mjroots (talk) 07:54, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you should read what the Archbishop Desmond Tutu once said: "if a person carries a feeling of grudge for a long time, that person will frequently feel it in her/his tummy..." Having said that, I think it is our opinion that MNN falls into such category. But, Desmond Tutu also said: "forgiveness is the key to resolving one's ill feeling and to move on...", if MNN cannot do that then just who are we to try to help him to do something which he is not willing to contemplate? Nuff said, back to our siriz bizniz of weekeepeedia editing. Cheers~! --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 08:03, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your arrogant presumption of course is that I don't already have an account on a place like Commons. Commons is a great place because there's no real need for any rules, and those that do exist, due to their nature, well there's no real scope for admins with the type of flaws you have to exist. There's no way people who do not agree with Commons policies can get into positions where they can subvert such policies and conduct rather basic campaigns to play the man not the ball. On Commons, it's simple, if you talk shit, you're ignored. If you talk it enough, you're banned. There's no need for the sort of low-ball disreputable tactics you've employed to such great effect here to abuse a body like arbcom for your own ends, namely to invent new or ignore existing notability standards for your pet topics of interest, and see that they're followed using all the tricks of the trade made available to people like yourself, who are ironically trusted to watch out for them in ordinary editors. I am amazed to see that you don't get any scrutiny for this, even though its clearly just a basic character flaw, as you showed in other débâcles like your bizarre ideas about settlement nav templates, another case of you pretending that there's some rule here that if you talk bollocks politely enough, somehow it becomes valid opinion and should be treated equally against the opinions of someone who has policy, and more importantly simple non-vested common sense, on their side. It's a real shame that this site's biggest flaw is that it takes more effort to deal with people like you, than it does basic vandals. Yet your effect on overall quality and credibility is far worse than any vandal can ever achieve. I suppose I could get an account on Simple and start ensuring it became legitimate encyclopaedic resources regarding air crashes. Hopefully their outlook on user interactions means that when someone like yourself makes up a notability standard which doesn't equate with any other we have, or tries to so blatantly lie about what the ones we do have actually say, or tries to claim coverage in a tertiary topic specific resource like the ASN is a GNG-satisfying RS for the topic of aircrashes, or when a slack jawed fuckwit like Dave makes yet another classic ATA vote at Afd in defence of any of these idiotic ideas which offend all right minded intelligent people with their brazen illogic and general stupidity, then hopefully the people at Simple see this for what it is, and do not accept the situation that when perfectly valid criticisms of such deplorable behaviour like that are made, they are first and foremost not simply ignored by the people trusted to properly weigh debates and properly moderate such obviously disruptive and tendentious behaviour, and any tactics deployed to eliminate such opposition, such as deliberately ignoring valid points and unjustifiably whining about civility, that does occur in response to it as a way to absolve yourself of any and all adult responsibility and accountability for your deplorable actions, is itself ignored as the wikilawyer's tactic it is. I would love to think that Simple is not the sort of place where people look the other way when presented with evidence that its admins engage in smearing and ironically incivil behaviour while alleging incivility, in attempts to eliminate content opponents. You might think you're different from Dave, you might think that you practice your editing in a way an admin should, but you're two sides of the same coin. At least he's not shy in admitting that he treats Wikipedia like a game, or in showing that he probably has the same respect for our policies and guidelines where they conflict with his personal desires as he does when someone tells him he can't have an ice cream before his dinner. Wikipedia is a serious project, one that seeks to rival real, quality information sources, just not serious enough yet about dealing with people like you or Dave who couldn't get a job stacking library shelves, never mind being responsible for what goes into the books it has. It's a crying fucking shame that new editors conned into believing that we operate according to how the policies and guidelines are written, still have to be exposed to people like you. MickMacNee (talk) 14:35, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Of course you've got an account on Simple and Commons; with unified login you should have an account across all Wikis, including Wikinews, which is another area you could choose to contribute to. I would say that I posted to OP before I saw your post on Jimbo's talk page. It don't make any difference, as I meant what I said above.
One of your biggest faults is that you think that a guideline is in effect a policy. A guideline is there to guide, but it does not have to be followed rigidly without deviation. It may be ignored if there is a good reason to do so. A policy, on the other hand, carries much more weight. There may be occasions when policy is not followed, but those occasions will be very few and far between, and only for exceptional reasons.
I'll let the PAs pass, as you're obviously angry and lashing out. Not condonable, but understandable. As I've repeatedly said, this is not about eliminating you as an opponent. We shouldn't even be opponents as we are both here with the intention of improving the encyclopedia, it's just the manner of your interaction with other editors which is the reason you find yourself at loggerheads with the community as a whole. Anyway, I do wish you well, and hope that it will prove possible for you to return at some point in the future. Mjroots (talk) 15:03, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I forgot, not only have I an account on Commons, I have also had one on Wikinews too, and wrote quite a few reports there. I eventually stopped using that one way back though, as it became clear through the presence of admins like you here, and of Afds like the aircrash ones you have so effectively turned into farces of stupidity, that that particular project has been a dead duck from the outset, because through your actions, NOT#NEWS and the GNG have no real meaning here at all for events if they simply get reported in news sources and enough retards will turn up with their ATA opinions. You're an admin. You're really supposed to know that the situations where Guidelines are ignorable are not simply those where you disagree with them and where they get in the way of what you personally want Wikipedia to be, namely a database of every single airliner incident where a tube of metal is put beyond use, with all other considerations being well and truly secondary, whether they come from policies, guidelines, or just plain common sense non-Aviation obsessed opinions of what this site is for. If that's what you want Wikipedia to do, and if you think Guidelines are stopping you doing that, then you're supposed to be able to demonstrate in a cogent and logical manner, that what you do to ignore the Guideline, actually meets a Policy and improves the pedia. And you've never done that in your life. You don't know how to frankly. Yet somehow, someway, you still got made an admin here, which means the incentive for you to do so has been greatly reduced, and its simply easier for you to get what you want in despicable ways instead. Anyway, I really don't kow why I'm wasting my time telling you this, I've done it many times before, and you've never once got it. The crime is that other people honestly don't seem to care that you don't get it either. They seem to like the fact that their chosen admins really are morons, who don't even understand how the pedia is supposed to work themselves in their own chosen topic fields, let alone have the competence or integrity to be overseeing its performance elsewhere. Here I have to rely on your experience. The IP 189.122.146.171, apparently located in Rio made two bad attacks in the last three days. Just a few hours ago he started again but a trustworthy collaborator, HkCaGu, was quicker in stopping the action. The person is copying and pasting data from GRU and adding nonsence like LY flying GIG/JRS (Atarot has been closed for quite a while...). Plus the person is adding flights that need interline connection at GRU. I am inclined to ask semi-protection for a week because every attack, normaly done in the early hours, requires quite some work to undo. By the way, the article in Portuguese underwent also a similar attack. It is a mess now. Thanks for your usual help. BRGDS. (Brunoptsem (talk) 22:20, 28 July 2011 (UTC))[reply]

EGovMonet Deletion

Dear Mjroots,

EGovMoNet was recently deleted from Wikipedia. I was still in the process of improving it when that happened and had not had enough time to recuperate the content for later reuse. So I asked Athaenara, who had deleted the article, to give me the opportunity to retrieve the latest version. Reading the logs, I am confused. Does this mean that you deleted the article after Athaenara had restored it? I still have not had the chance to retrieve the latest version before the article disappeared. Can you please help me?

It would be major help to have a full list of British listed buildings with coordinates in a table started by district/city and county.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:13, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I've reproposed it again. 6 months passed without any action and I really think it would be very helpful to the produce to have full lists.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:31, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shipwreck lists

Hi Mjroots. I see that you are making good headway with converting the shipwreck pages to list format. Fine work. One thing, though, do you have to add "World War II:" in front of every single ship that was lost in connection with the Second World War? As I see it, it looks extremely repetitive and tedious. When a shipwreck list deals with the years 1939-45, most shipwrecks are bound to have something to do with the war. Do we really need to repeat that statements hundreds of times? Manxruler (talk) 07:11, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it's better when there's an action/campaign mentioned in addition to the war. Still, that's one awfully large number of "World War II"s. And the flags of the ships doing the sinking still has a cluttering effect, in my opinion. Manxruler (talk) 07:39, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, mate. Having given it some thought, I guess it's fine. If we can get loads of campaigns and actions mentioned, then that's nice. I was never one for initiating reforms anyway. Manxruler (talk) 22:51, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MV Kronprinsen

I just wanted to let you know that I tood a look at your recently created article MV Kronprinsen--However, I noticed there are some holes that may need filling: some of the article's Wikilinks are broken. Amy Z (talk) 20:23, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WP Mills assessment backlog

When I am feeling in the right mood- and I have an evening to spare. I want to start to get rid of the un-assessed backlog. As about 75 of the articles are mine- I thought I would check first. For importance, I will use the simple scheme- of only local importance (low)- regional (mid) international interest (high)- leaving top importance to generic topics such as Drainage of the Fenlands.

For quality- no infobox but some structure -start. Properly formed/ geotagged/referenced/ but missing sections -- C. (satisfy the casual reader). All of that, but something in each section- inline ref for each section/ illustrated --B. Almost all my work is at C. ( feel free to flatter at this point! Or reassess upwards ).

Are you happy with this?--ClemRutter (talk) 16:45, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Awa Maru renaming

I disagree with your rename of Awa Maru (1943) to MV Awa Maru (1943). The MOS ship naming convention doesn't use MV when the ship is known by a single name. The second word, Maru, is also an indicator. The Awa Maru is an infamous ship. Hi Mj!

Just popping in to sticky-beak via the Wikiproject Airlines page when I noted you are unwell! Hope it is not too bad and you will be ok. I myself have recently had a few health 'issues' raised after a CAT scan.

Thanks for your message. Am currently on medication that is making me very tired and thus editing is erratic atm, thus I can't guarantee to be around at specific times if I'm needed in a hurry.
The Qantas story is quite a big one, will be intersting to see if Qantas folds, as has been suggested in some parts of the press. Mjroots (talk) 16:16, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am currently up too late editing (+6:40 am) which is making me very tired, (despite several 'keyboard naps'). Hope your health issue sorts out OK.
Indeed Qantas could be left (is?) in dire straits by the current dispute. Glad I don't have any of their shares! Perhaps the Gov. will step in and force the unions back? Searle's children

Hi Mjroots. Why do you say this is standard info for inclusion? Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 10:36, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So there is a parameter for it. If the children were in any way notable. I'll remove them again. Eddaido (talk) 06:53, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind in the least that the infobox shows he had four kids - shows he was (apparently) biologically technically fertile though I'm blessed if I can see why it matters to a reader. I thought the repeat of his parents' names in the infobox was quite surplus to requirements but as its your wish . . .
At some point someone said the article was rather messy and I agree. cheers, Eddaido (talk) 00:51, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1940 shipwrecks

Thanks, Mj. I'm very interested in the 1940 shipwrecks, as I'm sure you know. Right now I'm on the road travelling, so I don't have very much time to spend on the project.

One thing, though, please don't put much confidence in wrecksite.eu. The site is full of errors. Amongst many other examples, wrecksite places the sinking of Rio de Janeiro on 8 September when she was in reality sunk on 8 April. The sub that sank her disappeared in May 1940. Also, they list Rio de Janeiro as a steam ship when she was a motor ship. Just one reason why I deeply distrust that site. I can't for the life of me believe that that site is a reliable source. Manxruler (talk) 13:36, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, they're better than nothing. What I usually do is completely disregard the actual information on wrecksite (except the ship name and year of sinking), then double check navalhistory against Miramar Ship Index (which also contains some errors) and books (where there are a couple of errors from time to time too) to make sure. Cheers. Manxruler (talk) 14:13, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ely reflist

I accept that two-columns may "look better in your opinion" but frankly I disagree for two reasons:

  • Firstly, your {{reflist|2}} is a fixed two-column list, independent of any mobile device or monitor settings whereas what you replaced ({{reflist|colwidth=30em}}) gives as many columns as will fit on the readers monitor device and
  • Secondly, I am trying to remain consistent within the area and (e.g.) the FA article Little Thetford also uses {{reflist|colwidth=30em}}

I would appreciate it if you would reconsider your change --Senra (Talk) 17:10, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A complaint about User:L1v3rp00l

Hi there,

I would like to make a complaint about User:L1v3rp00l, for the following reason - they simply undo all my edits (see Arriva North West article) and then puts exactly what I've written but in his own way. It is really starting to get very frustrating, because I do not like people undoing my work and then doing this, it seems they obviously have a problem with me and I would like it to be sorted out before it gets out of hand.

It basically feels like the page has to be done to how they want and nobody's constructive edits are worth anything. It is disheartening to be quite honest.

I don't see what their problem is to be quite honest, but if possible could it be rectified ASAP? Thanks. JamesSteamPacket (talk) 22:45, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your quick reply. It is not surprising somebody has defended him but, to save any further arguments I'm not going to contribute to that page anymore, however if he starts doing it to another page I pay particular attention to improving and keeping up to date (there a few) I will go to ANI. Thanks for your help JamesSteamPacket (talk) 15:30, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dab pages

Thanks for adding the ship template to Rakaia (disambiguation) (I thought it wouldn't take long before somebody fixed it up; couldn't remember where to find that template), but I thought that each line should have one blue link: WP:DABSTYLE. Is there something that I have overlooked? (have watchlisted your page, so you can reply here without the need for talkback) Schwede66 02:35, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, one bluelink per entry. The dab page is fine as it is now. Mjroots (talk) 06:19, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was asking because MV Rakaia is a redirect to MV Empire Abercorn. Is a redirect regarded as a blue link? Schwede66 07:10, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Mjroots (talk) 07:12, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you can click it, and get thereby to a page other than the one you're clicking from (but still within Wikipedia), and you don't get the message about creating an article, it's a bluelink. Depending upon whether or not you've visited the page before, or certain aspects of your setup, so-called "blue links" may appear blue, indigo, violet or green - but not red (except in some user signatures, like mine, where the red text is, technically, a blue link). --Redrose64 (talk) 15:25, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Great Mill, Sheerness

The problem with Category:yyyy architecture is that it is completely ambiguous. What does it mean exactly? Is it the start of design, the approval of a design, the beginning of construction, the end of construction (which is what about 95% of the contents where actually for) or even the approval of a design concept? This is why most of these articles have been moved to subcategories that have objective inclusion criteria. The objections are pretty much from two users. One who does not believe that a building is ever completed and another who I think does not like categories on redirects. This move to completed in started with the bridge articles. So, yes, I believe that the removal is correct. If we know design dates (again, start, finish or another stage must be clear), then subcategories for this can be added. But I'll ask, what is the design date for One World Trade Center? Is it the start of design or the beginning of construction? It can't be the end of design since they are still designing the curtain wall area of the lower 20 floors since the initial design, as I understand it, was not buildable as designed. So if you can create additional subcategories that have objective criteria for inclusion, feel free to add them. 19:41, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

I still after all this time feel that the presence of the ships tag on specific shipwreck categories to be somewhat overdoing ships over-bloated presence on wikipedia - but hey for the moment I am trying to catch up with some category tagging for the shipwreck cause (and also I noted the 0ver-500 shipwreck articles not assessed...[12] hmmm ... have a safe new year! This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of List of shipwrecks in January 1944, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://zomobo.net/SS-Theresia-L-M-Russ.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

New user BritAirman (talk) 01:17, 4 January 2012 (UTC) page deletion comment

Thank you very much for your helpful comment on my talk page! Don't worry, I am getting the hang of it now! At first I thought it was some sort of 'club' and that anything written by non-experts was immediately marked for deletion by the so called experts in aviation - a form of censorship, if you like. Now I can see that the removal of articles is all part of the evolution of Wikipedia. I will see if I can contribute by recommending improvements to articles where I think improvements can be made. I am fascinated by aviation and although I am not a pilot, it has been my hobby for many years and I think I can contribute a lot more. My BA2157 article took me about 10 hours in total to edit and reference - it has been a great learning experience. I am very pleased with the final result, but don't worry, I won't be reaching for the rope myself if it gets the chop! BritAirman (talk) 01:17, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
