I noticed on some of your recent edits, that you are using unnecessary underscores on internal links (such as Portuguese, when you should use Portuguese.) Deleting images in Wikipedia

Although it is recommended that you be careful not to make any errors when uploading images, mistakes sometimes happen. If you would like to have an image you uploaded deleted, the best thing to do is to add db-author to that image and it will automatically be listed for speedy deletion. Problem with image

OK, I have no idea what was going wrong with that image, but I've uploaded it here now: Image:Nero Burning ROM screenshot2.png. Cheers, JACOPLANE • 2008-03-28 13:32

Screenshot themes

I have replaced your image at Image:Transmission_screenshot_ubuntu.png with one using the GNOME default Clearlooks theme. I think that having the default Ubuntu theme is wrong as Ubuntu != FOSS. Also mine is of a later version of Transmission (in fact a SVN version). bruce89 (talk) 00:22, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pages moves

Hello. I was just wondering why you are moving lots of Linux distribution pages? I noticed you moved the Ubuntu page recently, and have just moved the Fedora page, but I can see no actual reason for you doing this? ~~ [Jam][talk] 14:24, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've replied on my talk page. ~~ [Jam][talk] 16:40, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ubuntu-restricted-extras merger

Greetings,

I have merged the ubuntu-restricted-extras page into the main Ubuntu page under the heading Availability of Proprietary Software. The content presnted is insufficient for its own article page, lacking both sufficient volume and notability. Latiligence (talk) 17:00, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Forgot to mention: links to ubuntu-restricted-extras have all been updated as well. Latiligence (talk) 17:01, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ad-aware 2007 screenshot.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

 • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
 • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --06:02, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem and history now merged to this page here. With the 'author request' tag i just didn't realize that this was intended as housekeeping deletion for a history merge. If you want you can now reuse User_talk:SF007/Archive_1 for copy and paste archiving. --Tikiwont (talk) 08:16, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you have moved Karaboudjan to Karaboudjan (band). I disagree with this move, since there is no article about Karaboudjan being anything other than a band, and that the shorter title should be used if possible. Would you be willing to give your explanation? Thanks in advance, Zouavman Le Zouave 17:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for time I took to reply to your message... Regarding the change of the name in the article I changed it because I was considering to create an article about Karaboudjan, the ship from the adventures of Tintin, so I changed pre-emptively, to make the article "Karaboudjan" a disambiguation page or about the ship from tintin... If you really disagree with that you can change it back, no problem at all since there is no article about the ship yet. SF007 (talk) 01:04, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay, if you're planning on creating an article about the ship, then no worries. :) Good luck! Zouavman Le Zouave 07:19, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, then I'm glad you asked and didn't just reverted my move without even considereing the reasons why I moved it. Thanks ;) SF007 (talk) 18:15, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
^^ This is what I generally tend to do (apart from vandalism of course, but your move was clearly good faith). If you need any help on this article, I have the whole Tintin collection, it might help. ;) Zouavman Le Zouave 19:14, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

lego digital designer

Hey, I was wondering how you managed to get LDD to work with Vista... I've been trying and trying all day and I just can't manage to get it to work. It always comes up with the error that it cannot open and must be closed. Thanks Banana Girl (talk) 02:10, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, first of all, sorry for the very late reply, regarding Lego Digital Designer: I simply downloaded and installed the software! :) I had no problem at all, I installed it on Windows XP, Vista RTM, and Vista SP1, it worked fine everytime, it must be a problem with your software or Hardware... Note that you need Quick Time installed... Can you at least install it? you can try to extract the files from the installer with WinRAR, since the setup.exe is just a self-extracting zip file... and then try to install it... maybe some files of your windows installation are corrupted or something... You can also try a portable version I made (with VMware Project North Star), it should work on Vista RTM or SP1, here is the link:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/oj1oh7
Oh, and of course I did not put any virus or things like that in it, but you should be carefull and always have a good and up to date antivirus, if you have any problems or something, feel free to ask ;) SF007 (talk) 18:44, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Actually, i feel kinda bad now... I had tried LDD LeoCad and other types of programs and NONE would work. I gave up and reset my computer for a service pack and it worked! All of them!!! Thanks for your help anyway! That portable one may come in handy though;... Banana Girl (talk) 02:36, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Ad-aware 2007 screenshot.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ad-aware 2007 screenshot.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. VMware ThinApp

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at talk:VMware ThinApp, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Socrates2008 (Talk) 07:16, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry about that, but you wrote "ThinInstall" in the talk page, and there is no such thing as "ThinInstall", the previous product was "Thinstall" and the current product is "ThinApp", that's why I fixed it... I really don't like wrong info, that's just it... Please accept my apologies for editing your talk page entry, it was with a good intention... If you want to keep that, no problem, I will not fix it again... but like I said, my only intention was to fix a wrong information... SF007 (talk) 10:12, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all. However you will note that I've reverted some of the places you've added the screenshot of the setup program as this image does not appear to illustrate anything in the articles - indeed, the sheer number of articles you linked this image into makes your edits appear promotional. Socrates2008 (Talk) 10:19, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
yeah, I suppose maybe I got a little too enthusiastic about VMware ThinApp... it's just that I find it such a wonderful piece of software I just want people to learn about it... I know it may sound "propaganda" or something like that but I have nothing to do with VMware (appart from using some of their products...). SF007 (talk) 10:25, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. However you may want to take a look at WP:SOAP and WP:NPOV so you don't have other editors on your case about this again. Socrates2008 (Talk) 10:47, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Firefox vista screenshot

Hello. Would it be possible for you to take another screenshot of Firefox in vista, but with this official add-on? Don't replace the original image, because it's not a replacement. Just upload it under a different filename. I need it to say in the article that there is an official, but experimental, add-on, that allows aero effects. Image source problem with Image:Safari (web browser).png

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Safari (web browser).png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:18, 14 June 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BJTalk 12:18, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:Safari (web browser).png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image with an unknown source or an unknown copyright status which has been tagged as such for more than 7 days, and it still lacks the necessary information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. BJTalk 12:18, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Safari (web browser).png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. BJTalk 12:19, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm replying here to your message at m:User talk:COIBot/XWiki/hacktolive.org. First of all, we're not questioning your work or qualifying you as a spammer. The bot simply detects if one user or IP address is adding a certain link to multiple projects. In most cases that'll be spam, but of course there are exceptions. This is one of them. Therefore, I deleted the reports from meta. I'm not a sysop here, so I can't delete the report here. Feel free to nominate it for speedy deletion. --Erwin85 (talk) 09:38, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I know bots can't see if something is "good" or "bad", but since I am an editor for some time, and I had absolutely no problems of vandalism and things like that, and I also started several articles, I just thought bots would be smart enough to recognise that... anyway, thanks again for the reply. A tag has been placed on Image:Debian Installer screenshot.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

DVD Decrypter Screenshot

I coudn't help but notice your screenshot of the program running under Wine. Why bother when there are numerous native X-Window/Linux tools that do the same thing?

Just wondering --angrykeyboarder (a/k/a:Scott) (talk) 02:46, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I searched for an image of DVD Decrypter running under wine and have found none on wikipedia... maybe you are referring to the image of ImgBurn, right? I included simply to show that the program can run under wine... I agree that there may be many other native alternatives for Linux, and maybe even better, but like I said, it was just to show the program running on Linux... Proposed deletion of TIB (file format)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article TIB (file format), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 02:45, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fedora edits

Hi. Just an FYI - when adding stuff to the Fedora page (this is probably applicable to other pages), please can you see whether the content will fit into existing sections, rather than creating new sections with just one paragraph. In the case of your recent Fedora edit, the Live USB content would have fitted well into the Distribution section (which I have now merged it into). Cheers. ~~ [Jam][talk] 23:14, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, first of all I want to apologize for maybe being too "harsh" on my comment... second, I personally have no problem with "non notable things", if they are good, unique, etc... I have no problem to keep/create an article about them on wikipedia, but in this case I can't do much... Even if I improved the article, it would still not be notable, and would be likely deleted... I hope you understand, and don't hesitate in asking for help ;) Cheers. SF007 (talk) 02:43, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I have never heard of this software before. Not that I used that as an excuse for prodding. The point is, rhetoric like that is not very convincing. Dig up some reviews, find some citations for the sales. hbdragon88 (talk) 00:14, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm glad you just talked to me for now insted of taking this to "Articles for Deletion"... While this may not be as notable as WinRAR or so, I admit it... Fortunately, I was able to find some "good" (or semi-good) news and reviews, I will post it on the talk page of the article, and even include it in the article, if it seems appropriate... Image source problem with Image:Rommel in Africa 1941.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Rommel in Africa 1941.jpg.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:03, 26 September 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Sandstein  23:03, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Rommel in Africa 1941.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Rommel in Africa 1941.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Sandstein  23:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Super Ubuntu

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Super Ubuntu, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

Spam in Adrive

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Adrive, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Adrive is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Adrive, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Speedy deletion of Adrive

A tag has been placed on Adrive requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Panda Antivirus.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Panda Antivirus.png.

Hey I checked out IsoBuster like you said, and it showed the files on the CD. However, since I have only the trial version, I can't extract and run them. Do you know of any files that would allow me to run the files? I tried virtual lab and CD check, and neither one worked. THanks. --AtTheAbyss (talk) 00:40, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:XDuplicator screenshot.png

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:XDuplicator screenshot.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Speedy deletion of Cruft Remover

A tag has been placed on Cruft Remover requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Image source problem with Image:Jo,_Zette_and_Jocko.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Jo,_Zette_and_Jocko.jpg.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:27, 13 December 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 22:27, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on CyberLink requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Humanos.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Humanos.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 01:43, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ubuntu's volume control file

I finally answered your question; I had made a note to investigate, but never followed through. Hope it's still useful! --Tardis (talk) 08:43, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks mate, to be honest I delayed my reply to test that, but I still haven't done it! Anyway, I learned about strace, which is always a good thing! Regarding "my problem", I discovered it is a tricky one, I think alsa saves the mute option in a different way, if we have different hardware. (example: I boot a Live USB on a PC and mute it, save my session, and then boot on another PC with another soundcard, and then... I have soud again!). Anyway, thanks a lot mate, I appreciate it! First of all, IANAL. I noticed that you have added fair use rationales to the above named image. IMO, they are unnecessary for Cooperative Linux and Xming because they are free software, and a fair use rationale is needed for Windows because it is non-free. 99.240.102.192 (talk) 03:02, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know, I just added it becasuse of Windows Vista in the screenshot, thanks anyway. SF007 (talk) 20:11, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hitler images

Just wondering how you got the high res images of Hitler from the national archives. The info on the page lists an ARCweb record but I've never been able to get high resolution pictures from there and yet there are numerous hitler pictures that have accurate Arcweb information and are high resolution. It'ld be a great help if you could point me to the original website where you downloaded the pictures from. Anangbhai (talk) 19:22, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would glady help you, but unfortunately I was not the original uploader of images related to Hitler, I simply re-uploaded them with a better file-name. Sorry for not being able to help! SF007 (talk) 20:13, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Ubuntu screenshot.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ubuntu screenshot.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Norton Internet Security

Wondering if you still had NIS installed; you contributed two screenshots ... thanks! If you do, could you make another sshot, this time scaled down and web-resolution. Right now, the picture looks fuzzy in the infobox, yet it looks sharp at 100% res., due to browsers scaling it down. This time, could you drop the transparent background; I cannot determine the dimensions of the actual sshot with the transparent border on all four sides ...

TechOutsider (talk) 00:17, 13 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider[reply]

Hi, I have now uploaded a new image with proper transparency (no unneeded transparent borders), I have not resized it because I do not have at my PC software for that at the moment (only MS Paint, but that does not work with transparency), feel free to re-size it yourself if you have software like photoshop or something like that (GIMP should also work). Obvious?

Can you explain why you moved There's No One as Irish as Barack O'Bama to There's No One as Irish as Barack O'Bama (song)? You left only the summary "for obvious reasons" - well they are not obvious. We only add a differential to a title "(song)" if there is something else called "There's No One as Irish as Barack O'Bama" from which we need to differentiate it. So unless there's a There's No One as Irish as Barack O'Bama (film) this is unnecessary, and not wikipedia practice.--Scott Mac (Doc) 20:37, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did that because I dislike titles like "There's No One as Irish as Barack O'Bama", they seem to imply something, it makes them look like a statement (if we do not read the article). Even the other day I saw an article named "Sexo Explícito" (translated to: "explicit sex") on the Portuguese wikipedia, and I was really thinking it was about sex, but in reality, it was about a band! (I really dislike that naming policy!). Just imagine if we had an article called "Obama is a gay nigger from outer space"? Just because of some "notable"/popular song with that name? that would suck. Anyway, If I have to explain, then probably you miss my point. Anyway, I will not fight that, nor revert, rest assured. I just felt I had to do that, even knowing someone would not like my page-move. Cheers SF007 (talk) 20:32, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I do not dislike Obama himself! In fact, I would have probably voted for him if I lived in the USA! SF007 (talk) 20:33, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Low resolution

Hi, I noticed that most or all of your screenshot images are of an unreasonably high resolution. While I appreciate your contributions, the non-free content criteria, #3b states that low- rather than high-resolution images should generally be used. As the screenshots are generally used in a thumbnail or otherwise "small" format in the articles where they appear, it is not necessary to have such high resolution versions, and thus the images should be reduced in size, per policy. While there are no set guidelines stating what a "good size" is, I've found that a good rule of thumb is that large screenshots (of whole windows or whole screens) should be no more than 0.1 megapixels in resolution (c.f. WP:VG/GL#Screenshots and cover art). Thanks again for your contributions! —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 15:15, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mendaliv, you touch a really sensite point with this... you say "unreasonably high resolution" and I say "normal resolution" and reply with "why unreasonably low resolution"? You know, I really oppose the use of low-res images by default, especially in the case of screenshots of software that is not art (unlike games, etc...), here is my opinion why low-res images are bad:
 • The page you pointed out is a mere guideline, not policy (there is a difference!)
 • Re-sizing images to low-res based only on guidelines (or even if that was policy) is a bad idea: "wiki-rules" are just made to either: comply with the law OR avoid legal actions OR respect the copyright owners OR make the content free (as in libre) (see more explaining bellow)
 • Doing that to comply with the law in not needed: we have fair use, and besides, a screenshot is only "a small portion of the work" (so we are complying with fair use!) (in fact, a screenshot is not even part of the work, since the point of software is to be used, and a screenshot is 100% useless for that!)
 • Even if we had no fair use law, I doubt most copyright owners would care there is a screenshot on wikipedia, in fact, I bet many of them like that! So I doubt they sue, and even if they sued, a screenshot can be taken down anytime or re-sized down anytime
 • "Re-size it to respect copyright owners"- Like I said before, they probably like their screenshots here, besides, anyone can take screenshots of software and use them is a bad way - so being on wikipedia does not do any harm (remember, screens are under fair use, so they are legal!)
 • "Wikipedia is about "Free"/libre conten so lets re-size them down": I doubt making them smaller makes them more free...
 • Low-res is bad for readers, since it is harder to see the images and/or read what says there (not to mention people with reading/visual problems)
 • Low-res is bad for wikipedia: It decreases quality of wikipedia

I bet you strongly disagree with me, but this is my personal opinion, I could lie about that, but I will not do that... If you would like to track all my edits and re-size all my images, fine, I will not like that, but I will also not fight it and/or revert it. SF007 (talk) 20:54, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Operating System article and Ubuntu screenshot

There has discussion gone trought and it seems just to be a fact that Ubuntu screenshot does not belong at all to operating system article because it does not show operating system anyway. I made there a citation of operating system functions, to proof that Ubuntu screenshot wrong too. It ain't good idea to add screenshots what are ads for one party but does not have any facts on it what it should show. Hopefully you can read the citation link to understand the difference of desktop environment and operating system. 80.248.107.203 (talk) 22:44, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed your edits due to things like "it is an ad and biased", which I don't think is true. I could not care less if there was a screenshot of Debian, Fedora, Mandriva or Super OS... I know the screenshot only shows GNOME and the wallpaper, and that GNOME is not an OS.... but my point was that "Linux" should be represented in the article. Terminal emulator

Good call, I say. I know that at least one of them is a genuine product but if no-one can be bothered to make the effort to show how it is notable in the context of Wikipedia then it's right that it should go - we don't want a bunch of unreferenced, non-notable, unverified redlinks, especially where it's going to be a magnet for product advertisements.

Verified, notable products are fair game, but I agree the redlinks should go. --ClickRick (talk) 09:29, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, cool. I'm not really bothered about notability, however, the article already mentioned a bunch of terminals (some of them even obsolete/discontinued), and I just decided to do some clean up. Some of them could be even made up (google showed up nothing useful and without refs it's hard to be sure). If you want to re-add some of them, feel free to do it (however, I recommend to at least start a stub, or provide at least an external link so we can have minimum verifiability). Cheers. If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. ViperSnake151  Talk  02:52, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

why nominate the image for deletion?!? If it is not approppriate to have it on those articles why not just remove it from them or even replace it with another? Why not take a more relaxed stance on so-called "non-free images"...? it would be better for everybody, I tell you. Also, I used this image because it is probably the most popular Virtual Machine software, and using another one just because of the licensing would (maybe) be biased towards "FOSS". However, I see no problem in replacing the image with an image of VirtualBox, for example. Cheers -- SF007 (talk) 03:17, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. Our fair use policy is shaky. That's why we have a so-called "bias" towards FOSS, since its the only way we can legally represent most concepts on Wikipedia. We have considered most Windows window borders to be de minimis enough to still be free (especially the "Windows Classic" design). ViperSnake151  Talk  03:23, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Revision history of Microsoft Security Essentials

5 July 2009 SF007 (6,717 bytes) (why link to malware?!?! please explain if you think this should be here)

When I was researching MS anti-virus software today, I stumbled across the malware article, because of the article title. Then I found out that the related articles were a disorganized, poorly cross-linked jumble. So I took quite a bit of time to research and try to organize good inter-linking. Now, you have gone many places and removed the links to that one article, because you think the content is about a "bad" thing that you would like to suppress. Well. What are we about here? It still seems to me that the content is "obviously" relevant. Anyone trying to learn about this subject might want to know about that "bad" content.

We are not discussing a "link to malware" here -- we are discussing a link to an article about it! And there is nothing at all devious about the link -- it says dead plain what it is about, and no one will ever be bothered to go to that article unless they want to know more about that kind of thing.

Now the MS Antivirus article seems to be missing any link to:

which is crazy, since the articles have almost exactly the same titles. And there is some kind of invisible cloak on the article protecting it from edits by us unwashed anons. Please fix this article. (I don't care that the content is about something 15 years old. This is supposed to be an encyclopedia. History belongs here more than current tech content, actually.)

PS: A detailed history of MS-DOS (listing each version, when) seems to be missing in WP. Someone should fix that. Even if I spend hours a day trying to fix WP, I still can't catch up...

PPS: This page is too long; please archive earlier material.

PPPS: Looks like you have been working hard on WP for years. Looks like you have been working to add pics - Thank You! So many more pics are needed... -71.174.175.104 (talk) 01:51, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

>you have gone many places and removed the links to that one article, because you think the content is about a "bad" thing that you would like to suppress

I am not trying to "suppress" anything, I just think it is pointless to have a link to an article about a malware program on an article about a legitimate product. But if there is consensus, feel free to add it SF007 (talk) 13:10, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Windows4all

Hello SF007, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I declined the speedy deletion of Windows4all - a page you tagged - because: not previously deleted and "non-notable" is not a reason for deletion. Use WP:AFD instead. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion before tagging further pages. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. SoWhy 20:48, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hacktolive.org

Are you the owner of hacktolive.org? If not, what's your relationship to it? Yworo (talk) 04:15, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I do not feel in any way forced to reply to that question, but out of courtesy to other editors, I have explained my relation with that website here - SF007 (talk) 13:20, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy call

Just a note to inform you that I've opened a discussion about links to and images from hacktolive.org on the reliable sources noticeboard and WikiProject Spam. Yworo (talk) 05:04, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion

Re WT:WikiProject Spam#hacktolive.org (where you might like to comment): I'm sure you are well intentioned, but Wikipedia should not be used to promote even good causes. Per WP:EL, please only add external links that add encyclopedic value to an article. Also, note that a reference is generally expected to give a reliable source to justify a statement in article. For example, in Zero Install, this edit inserted "Currently, the only operating system to include Zero Install by default is Super Ubuntu". The reference is not reliable and does not justify the statement. Also, it is entirely redundant because a link to the article was given, so the external link should not be added. Johnuniq (talk) 08:43, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, I removed that section just now, since that information seems to be outdated (the distro now is not even called "Super Ubuntu", but "Super OS"). I simply added the link to serve as a reference for the fact that Zero Install was included in Super Ubuntu. I slightly disagree it was not a good source, since it was the official page of Super Ubuntu, so who could provide more reliable info about the software included in Super Ubuntu than the developers themselves? Of course more reliable sources would be better, but I think that one was not so inappropriate. And regarding being redundant, yes, a link to the Super Ubuntu article was given, but as you probably know, wikipedia is not considered a reliable source. If the information was still current, I would not care if the link was removed, but I am just saying all this because at the time I considered the link very appropriate. Another issue would be if "Super Ubuntu" is considered "notable enough" to have that information on the Zero Install article, now this would be a good reason to remove that section altogether, but like I said, if the info was there, I considered the reference appropriate. Cheers SF007 (talk) 12:01, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If we read "the only operating system to include X is Y[ref1]" then ref1 should support the assertion (a quick look made me think it did not; it might support "X is in Y"). Also, given that Y is a link to a Wikipedia article, it is not correct to also give a direct link to the web site for Y: it's not required; it's not encyclopedic; it's unnecessarily hard to maintain (external links in two locations); it is unnecessarily promotional. Your point about a WP article not being a reference is of course correct, but that is a different issue. I don't think there is any need to reply, but I will see any reply here so you don't need to notify me thanks. Johnuniq (talk) 07:31, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Response

Please ease up. I posted a query on the two noticeboard not to label you a spammer, but to determine via expert opinion whether the links were good or problematic. I waited for a response on both boards before removing the links. Once I was sure that the links were not reliable sources and were viewed by our spam project as promotional, I removed the links. I believe this was the right thing to do. I also find the images very questionable, but I've not removed them yet as I don't think there is enough feedback on that. One thing that is really really questionable is that hacktolive.org claims they have released many of the screenshots into the public domain. But they are not legally capable of doing this on screenshots that have additional copyright holders, such as Microsoft. All the copyright holders would have to release the image for it to be public domain. I am sure you took their release in good faith, but I believe both they and you are mistaken about the appropriateness of use on articles other than the primary piece of software shown. I didn't reduce them as I found on your talk page a statement that you would revert any attempt to make them low-resolution and saw that you had already done so on at least one occasion. Okay? Yworo (talk) 14:45, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have to admit I took it a bit personal after dedicating hours, days, and even months to wikipedia... I hope you take that into consideration... I just felt attacked in a way... Regarding the images, I ask you to please read my talk page again, I said "I will also not fight it and/or revert it" (the low resolution images). Regarding the images... I just assumed they were OK for wikipedia, feel free to tag them with the proper licenses and/or fair-use notices (if required). Thanks for explaining it. SF007 (talk) 14:58, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. I guess I should have said "nothing personal" a few times like you did. My apologies. Yworo (talk) 15:00, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, it was my fault. You had not made any attack, so its allright. Also, all this "arguments fight" was mainly to explain my reasoning and "clean my reputation" and prove a point, not really to fight for the links to be there, since I agree it is not a very reliable website. Cheers SF007 (talk) 15:07, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not "fix" any more Ubuntu links until the move is actually discussed. Besides, "(operating system)" may not be the correct dab term anyway. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 23:31, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's my opinion that this admin is already involved in the issue and if he blocks anyone if would be an abuse of his admin privileges. Yworo (talk) 23:35, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm being threatened with blocking over fixing the same links you are by SarekOfVulcan. Can he do that? Would it be justified? Yworo (talk) 23:32, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In his/hers case I would not "threaten" you... but it does not seems like a bad-faith action. I think a simple warning first would be enough, and then only take other actions if needed (in fact, like you probably remember, I simply gave you a little warning in the past when I feared minor disruptive actions). I am sorry, but I can't help much, I am not an admin and I am not very familiar with wikipedia politics. In your case I would ask advise at the wikipedia helpdesk, if needed. I have stopped "fixing links", but I don't really think those actions were bad, and not worthy of a block. Cheers --SF007 (talk) 03:07, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trigence was speedy deleted in 2007. You recreated it as a redirect to the dab page virtualization in 2008. Why? Nothing links to it. It's the previous name of a commercial company. File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Stalin_TIME.jpeg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Closedmouth (talk) 15:45, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Super OS

Similar to the comments above (heading Promotion). I removed the content put in with these edits [5] and this edit [6]. I'm guessing they are your edits, due to timing and IP? The article is not about the Helios Project, and links and explanations of what they do may be considered promotion, especially with the non-notable refs. Please could you refrain from adding them again, despite them being a good cause... Widefox (talk) 22:42, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Look, It's not about being a good or a bad cause, it was simply to help establish notability of the distro, since we all know deletion is very common on wikipedia. I have researched and found Ken Starks (probably the "director" of the helios project) to be somewhat notable in the Linux comunnity, having participated in talks with Bruce Perens, sponsored the Linux Car, writing news to popular websites like [ http://www.linuxtoday.com/Linux today] and lwn. I really don't have interest in mentioning that project "per se", the only point was to list the groups that use the OS. I will not add that, but I would hardly call the links "spam"... just my thoughts. Cheers --SF007 (talk) 14:40, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem - seems that others are happy about the notability nowadays. If you consider their project notable, then the obvious place is an article on them (and no, I'm not suggesting you do that). Widefox (talk) 15:22, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, I honestly don't consider that project "notable for an article", even applying very relaxed guidelines. You are right, the notability of the distro should be OK by now... --SF007 (talk) 16:07, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Deb Creator

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Deb Creator. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Deb Creator. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Thanks for uploading File:Ashampoo Burning Studio 8 logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. AFD nomination of article that you edited

See Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2009_December_10#Comparison_of_portable_platforms. --Enric Naval (talk) 13:56, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on IEs4Linux requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. A tag has been placed on File:Audacity screenshot.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

Thank you for uploading File:ClamAV frontend screenshot.png.

IngerAlHaosului (talk) 10:32, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of WinBuilder

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is WinBuilder. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/WinBuilder. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:10, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:37, 19 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Super OS, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Ubuntu 10.10.10 & The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

You reverted my edit regarding the marketing of Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat (alias 10.10.10) and its association with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This is an intentional association inspired by Mark Shuttleworth himself, which he has mentioned numerous times in presentations and in other media. I am sorry, I didn't put in a citation before, because I (wrongly) assumed that this is already well known. Just because Canonical may also have said that they want a "perfect 10" in 10.10, does not prevent them from also making an association with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Just because A is true, does not mean B is not true. From a marketing viewpoint, this is appealing to a demographic who are fans of h2g2 and are also likely to be geeks receptive to an alternate open source operating system. It is mainly for this reason (not the "perfect 10" punch line) that they have pulled back the release date three weeks to get it out on (20)10-10-10.

You will see that I have re-added the text, albeit with a citation of what I suspect is Mark Shuttleworth's first publication of his thinking on linking the next release to h2g2. This will not resonate with the mass market, but would get attention from h2g2 fans... Enquire (talk) 07:44, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the extremely late reply (I have been away from wikipedia), but I would not like to leave you without a reply. When I read that paragraph it just seemed a hoax to me, I tried to find sources, but at the time could not find anything, so I just assumed it was some sort of joke, I also vaguely remember looking at the history and notice that info was added by an IP/anonymous, but I think that is not correct and I not have not looked properly. My apologies for removing the content, like I said, I "jumped the gun" assuming it was a hoax, also due to the lack of any sources, and acting in "good-faith". The article Wine-Doors has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

project no longer maintained and is basically dead

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. dave (talk) 05:01, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Exact Audio Copy Linux.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Exact Audio Copy Linux.png.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. comic book illustrations

Hi there,

I noticed you added illustrations to the Tintin article(s). I'm planning to rework articles related to the "Spike and Suzy" comics, and I was wondering how to go about possibly adding similar illustrations. I'm thinking here about the copyright issues and all. What sort of limitations and issues did you have to take into account to make sure that the illustrations can stay on there? Small resolution, the right disclaimers on the picture page, adding pictures for just a small subset of the characters(not overdoing)? Did you make and process the scans yourself?

JH-man (talk) 09:02, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the extremely late reply (I have been away from wikipedia). The main problem is not the law per se, but the fact that some people on wikipedia are extremely hostile to content not considered "free". Yeah, you seem to already know the basics, the disclaimers/tags are the most important ones, otherwise the images will be automatically deleted. Adding pictures to all characters would probably not be a problem from a legal point of view, but again, some extremists will fight to have few images. Regarding the small resolution, I would not worry about that, since a lower resolution image can be uploaded at any time to satisfy legal requirements (or satisfy the extremists), in fact, I always upload at the maximum resolution possible, what usually happens is that bots and/or extemists upload lower-resolution images, but images are usually (never?) deleted simply because they are hig-res. PS: I was about to upload scans myself, but I was so disappointed with the hostility to "non-free content" I just gave up. Cheers --SF007 (talk) 19:15, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Scientology Cross Logo.png

Thank you for uploading File:Scientology Cross Logo.png.

Thank you. -- Cirt (talk) 21:23, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, SF007

We all know how contracts like license agreements work: They specify user's right and everything they don't specify is not allowed. See these examples of license agreements: [7] [8] (Also see every other software license agreement too.)

So, please do not remove well-sourced contents from the article. Judging from your edit summary, you have obviously done so out of disbelief of what you see and read. But that doesn't mean that you are allowed to involve your personal feelings in Wikipedia.

FYI, we already have a third opinion on this matter: I consulted another Wikipedian before adding this statement. See User talk:Damaster98#Microsoft Safety Scanner and User talk:FleetCommand#RE: Microsoft Safety Scanner. Therefore, if you wish to continue down the chain of dispute resolution, just know this.

Fleet Command (talk) 05:15, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"We all know how contracts like license agreements work: They specify user's right and everything they don't specify is not allowed" - I don't think things are "black and white" like that, but since I am not a lawyer, I will refrain from giving opinions.
"So, please do not remove well-sourced contents from the article" - I don't consider that well sourced: most of the time licenses are not easy to understand (even for lawyers!), and the only source is the license itself, not a commentary by some well known lawyer or any other reputable source/publication.
"you have obviously done so out of disbelief of what you see and read. But that doesn't mean that you are allowed to involve your personal feelings in Wikipedia." - Yeah, you can call it disbelief: reading that a tool released by Microsoft with the purpose of removing malware can only be used in malware development is, to me, outrageous, not to mention the part about "can be used only for malware development" was completely unsourced/speculation and I am sure almost anyone who reads that license will not agree with that statement. I would also hardly call it "personal feelings", that statement was simply unsourced speculation (in addition, it was something that did not make sense, given the current fight Microsoft has endured against malware, in particular by giving free anti-virus and free malware-removal tools like these). I see you were/are OK with removing the part about being "used for malware development" from the article, and that was my main problem with the statement. I have re-worded the article slightly, and I am happy with the current state, if you disagree with my changes feel free to voice your opinion and/or make further changes. By the way, I have no interest in disputes and just hope Microsoft clears this issue. Cheers --SF007 (talk) 20:06, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, thanks. It seems you are okay with it and I am okay with it. So, I am not going to quote from your message and say how I disagree with each part! ;) Cheers. Fleet Command (talk) 10:15, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, SF007

Do you mind if you tell me why do you add duplicate links to the article? More specifically, why do you add internal links to the See Also sections when those links are already in the article navbox? Fleet Command (talk) 05:55, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't mind at all, I guess it just "feels right" to have a link to closely-related stuff on the "see also" section... I also see it as a place to gather related stuff, regardless of them being mentioned in the article... but on second thought, I now realize it might sometimes be clutter... Feel free to undo my links additions when you feel they are "wrong", add clutter, or don't benifit the readers/article. Cheers --SF007 (talk) 20:11, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Yeah, I guess you are right about the feeling; but experience tells me that feelings are treacherous things. So, I'll try to do fixes and reverts only when I have a reason. Hey, you removed the CLA part for Unity on the grounds that signing a CLA is no longer needed. Do you have a link for that as reference? I tried to find something about that on the Unity launchpad.net site and on Shuttleworth's blog and either I'm blind or they don't say anything about that. Hello mate, indeed I can't seem to find proper sources stating Canonical has changed their position regarding contributions, however, the Canonical page no longer indicates copyright assignment is required ( http://www.canonical.com/contributors ), instead only requiring a license from contributors. I removed that bit of information from the article mainly because the information was outdated, and because I doubted it was an important piece of information, also being added by someone with possible NPOV issues ( http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Unity_%28user_interface%29&diff=405228745&oldid=404872162 ), possibly giving it undue weight. However, if you feel this is important information, I have no problem re-adding the (updated) information. --SF007 (talk) 10:59, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Windows To Go USB Flash Drive.png

Thanks for uploading File:Windows To Go USB Flash Drive.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please remove the tag.

Speedy deletion of crypto-currency

Hi,

I've speedy deleted crypto-currency as the article is basically a recreation of that deleted following this discussion. The only notable use of the term is with BitCoin: Neal Stephenson may have employed a "cybercurrency" reliant on cryptography in two books, but it's synthesis to tie that to cryptocurrency. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) - talk 11:16, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, if I remember correctly it was a small article with limited souces, and I admit this is likely an obscure concept and probably the only real implementation is, like you mention, Bitcoin, so deletion is not really a problem. Thanks for the informing me of the situation. Cheers. --SF007 (talk) 01:43, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Galaxy Nexus.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Marcus Qwertyus 03:37, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I note that you added a significant number of non-free use rationales to this image description page. However, in each case the purpose of use was "show the Galaxy Nexus". This is an exceptionally weak rationale. I've removed the image from all but Galaxy Nexus and Google Nexus, as its use in all the other articles where it was used was wholly unnecessary, and in many cases already supplanted by free license imagery. Please do not restore the image to these articles. In the future, please reconsider adding non-free images unless there is a strong, significant reason why the image must appear on a given article. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 21:19, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I was trying to improve the articles, which most of the time lack any images, but I understand we have to endure overly-restrictive policy to prevent legal issues. I already use free/open images as much as possible ;) Cheers. --SF007 (talk) 02:29, 19 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

in response to 'user reviews are not considered reliable sources'

Hello. I added the sections to the Acronis True Image article, which you removed. Why do you say 'user reviews are not considered reliable sources', when the very first line in the History section reads "True Image has a wizard driven interface, and received positive and mixed reviews from both editors and users alike." You left that alone.

My additions went into more depth, and reflected more recent changes reflecting the dramatic decline of the software's quality in recent versions. The reference to positive reviews dates back to 5/27/08, when the software was in its prime, and the reference to mixed reviews was added 1/26/10, in response to dropping quality. Nearly every review in the past 5 months is terrible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.2.197.174 (talk) 05:16, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Writing this much negative information about the software is a violation of our neutral point of view policy. The user reviews are not reliable sources for the quality of the software. We don't want to put undue weight on reviews. The reviews cited are not merely user reviews, but appear to be magazine reviews.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:23, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your feedback Jasper. I'm Gary and I just created an account. Please bear with me if my formatting is not following protocol, I'm learning the editing process. With all due respect, I never presented the reviews as my own opinions, merely as the prevailing views. Fact: user reviews for this software after 2009 are mostly negative. It's useful and important information. You see criticism of a product, company, individual or organization all over wikipedia as its own section. Also, my contributions were not open to discussion or amendment, they were just hastily removed as soon as I added them. Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view/FAQ#Lack_of_neutrality_as_an_excuse_to_delete. "Especially contentious text can be removed to the talk page if necessary, but only as a last resort, and never just deleted." I am open to compromise and discussion and adjustment, but those aren't choices if my opinions are immediately deleted. This was my very first contribution to the wikipedia project.--Fluxeternal (talk) 06:40, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is a difference between a magazine and a user review. Here, the issue is not plain neutrality, but WP:UNDUE. I could easily show the opposite point of view with the same evidence. As a new user, you might like my new users' guide.Jasper Deng (talk) 06:43, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You just proved my point, Jasper. That article states "Giving due weight and avoiding giving undue weight means that articles should not give minority views as much of or as detailed a description as more widely held views... Wikipedia should not present a dispute as if a view held by a small minority deserved as much attention overall as the majority view." Why do you place undue weight to an online magazine, which takes corporate sponsorship and advertising dollars, making it inherently vulnerable to produce biased reviews? More importantly, those editor reviews - while they may generally be held to a higher standard of journalistic rigor than average users, only represents the [likely biased] views of 1 or 2 editors. In contrast, 9 out of 15 download.com reviews (60%) in the past 4 months are 1 or 2 stars, and 8 of the 10 in the past 3 months (80%) are 1 or 2 stars. How is 80% not the majority view?

Softpedia user reviews: 6 of 9 negative PC World user reviews: 3 of 4 negative

Amazon.com reveals something much more sobering: five perfect, 5-star reviews on Amazon.com within 3 days, shortly following a string of 1 star negative reviews. Then again, 10 perfect reviews in a row following some terrible 1 star reviews. As a matter of fact, 20 of 46 user reviews were 1 star. 22 of 46 are 5 stars. Only 5 reviews in the middle. How do you suppose 91% of reviews are all either perfect or abysmal? Half are perfect, half are terrible, and almost none in the middle. How does it happen that these reviews violate every example of statistics in the natural world?

Most of the negative reviews on Amazon came out immediately following the release of the latest version of the application. Then, all of a sudden, a string of perfect reviews which conveniently balances things out. Then another bunch of very negative reviews, and another string of perfect ones. Like clockwork. The deck is stacked, and Acronis is doing the stacking.

Amazon is the first place most users go to review products; it's the second result in a Google search for 'Acronis True Image 2012 review'. So it's no surprise that's where the ballots are stuffed the most. Not to be dramatic, but in communist and fascist countries, the government uses censorship, propaganda, and fear to control the dissemination of information and public discourse. In a capitalist nation, it's the organizations with the money who control the flow of information and public discourse. User reviews are supposed to give democratic control back to the users, who are not being influenced by the company to offer a positive review. Acronis obviously had fake reviews planted to boost their ratings, because they can afford to. That's what they call damage control in the PR world. The facts on several sites point to this (the reviews on download.com are also 1 star or 5 and almost none in between). And several reviewers noticed it and pointed it out. I am not presenting personal opinions, only the facts, and the majority view.

If wikipedia is supposed to be transparent, these facts should absolutely be reflected in the wiki page so users or potential users are informed. I'm happy to discuss the deleted content, but I strongly feel the information should be in there.

BTW, thanks for the link to the user guide, I'll check it out. --Fluxeternal (talk) 17:00, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User reviews do not deserve the weight you are putting on it, put simply. Why are you trying to disparage one particular product?Jasper Deng (talk) 22:51, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Indented line

I am trying to publish the truth. Why do user reviews hold no weight? And why do editor reviews carry more weight?? This is baffling to me. The vast majority view is that this product has serious flaws, across three different independent sites. On amazon.com and download.com, the two most important sites which carry the most weight, Acronis has blatantly circumvented a fair review process through deceptive & unscrupulous practices (generating false 5 star reviews). I have provided evidence and some reviewers have come to the same conclusion. Deception and obfuscation, and preventing open, honest discourse doesn't sit well with me. The editor reviews on these sites are bought and paid for; the sites have ads and coupons up for the products they are supposedly giving an unbiased view of. They are corporate entities, with zero transparency and zero accountability to report the truth (ie, an honest review). How can the majority of users be giving 1 star reviews one after another but ALL the editor reviews on these sites are glowing and enthusiastic? Putting undue weight on the opinions of a few, who have no regulation or transparency, and who openly accept donations & sponsorship from the companies they review, is just absurd.

Why are you trying to defend a deceptive company, and place undue weight on these editors? I'm not inventing information out of thin air, I'm trying to publish the majority view.--Fluxeternal (talk) 16:50, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is trustworthiness. You shouldn't be pushing any point of view on Wikipedia in any case. Editor reviews are much more trustworthy than user reviews which anyone could, in theory, write.Jasper Deng (talk) 19:48, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What is this?! My talk page in being invaded! :) Seriously, now: Gary, I analyzed and investigated the source used in your edits, but not only the review on the website was in direct contradiction with the assertion that the software was low-quality/buggy (a "Spetacular" rating according to the review), the only other source of information to back-up your claims were user comments/reviews, which clearly fall under "user generated content" or "self-published sources". I also considered re-wording your edits and including them, but I felt there were not proper sources to back up those claims and it just seemed too "one-sided". Regarding leaving "True Image [...] received positive and mixed reviews from both editors and users alike" without modification, well, first of all, I have no responsibility over the edits of other people, second, it seemed very plausible the program was getting positive reviews from users, since there were reliable sources/reviews saying the same thing. In addition to that, I don't consider myself what some call a "wiki-nazi", someone who obsessively cares about the rules, while ignoring the "bigger picture" or the "spirit" behind the rules (nor I consider myself a "deletionist"). But if you were to remove the part about it getting good reviews from users, I would certainly not revert it, nor would I write something like that in the first place when there are are no reliable sources to support that. I think Jasper Deng pretty much already nailed the issue (thanks by the way!), and since I'm not too well-versed at arguing, I think there is little more to add. Feel free to bring the issue to the article talk page. --SF007 (talk) 21:07, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback guys. I didn't see the article discussion page until now. It started as a reponse to SF007's deletion of my edits. What makes editor reviews a reliable source? Simply having the funds and forum to pay someone to publish it? Why is a corporate entity which takes sponsorships more reliable [and less biased] than user reviews? Anyone can write a user review, but only editors hired by download.com, or amazon or pc world may publish their viewpoints. At the end of the day, it's just someone's opinion. And editor reviews are sponsored by other companies like Acronis, and have an agenda. There are REBATES for Acronis True Image Home on several review sites at the bottom of the review, provided by Acronis! How on earth are those reviews inherently trustworthy?

This problem of lack of transparency is precisely what Wikipedia is supposed to be about. Editor reviews for the product have been overwhelmingly positive, but user reviews have been almost exclusively negative as of 2011, not counting the preponderance of planted 5-star reviews which serve to obfuscate the true rating. I will concede that it's not the place for independent research or righting wrongs; in that case, what's the right way to present the true majority opinion (which would be obvious to anyone who reads my assertions & looks at the evidence). Is wikipedia just a forum to smile and enable media corporations with the money and resources to control the dissemination of information to continue to do so? This is one tiny instance that's endemic of a greater problem. I'll continue further discussion specific to the article on the article's talk page.--Fluxeternal (talk) 05:34, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Simply put, a formal editor whose opinion is trusted is just more reliable than a user who could just be anyone. Wikipedia is not what you described in your second paragraph. You have no proof that the editors were bribed as you describe here.Jasper Deng (talk) 17:54, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Gary, I completely agree there are problems with companies advertising/backing media organizations, and it certainly is true they are "opinions", but at least it is supposed to be an opinion subject to journalistic ethics/standards, the rule of law and a free market (at least in theory). It certainly is far from perfect to use reviews from media outlets like CNET/Softpedia/Engadget/etc, but the truth is that there is simply nothing better or with higher standards. This is the standard practice on wikipedia, for good and for worse. I suggest you use the Wikipedia:Help desk if you have questions regarding policy or any issue related to editing wikipedia; For all other questions you can use the Wikipedia:Reference desk. Good luck editing wikipedia. --SF007 (talk) 23:45, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Portugal 1111.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Portugal 1111.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hardware restrictions and iPhones

Hi! I see you've added a link to Hardware restrictions from iOS jailbreaking - in order to make it a helpful link, I think the hardware restrictions page should include a section about the signed firmware system on iOS devices. See Talk:Hardware restrictions for some additional commentary from me - the current SHSH blob article is uncited (and Exclusive Chip ID is poorly cited) and I think the topic would be better served by being rebuilt as a section of the hardware DRM article. I don't understand the SHSH system well enough to do it without some careful reading, but let me know if you're not so interested in this part so that I know I should take a stab at it later. (There's some basic cited in the Cydia article but even that is out of date with the latest APTicket complications.) Thanks! Dreamyshade (talk) 15:19, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I think that is a very good idea and you have my support. I would gladly build a proper section, but my knowledge of Apple devices is really limited. Nevertheless, I've started a "Apple devices" section at Hardware DRM#Apple devices, so feel free to tinker/expand/improve. --SF007 (talk) 17:12, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK cool, I'll fill it out with my understanding. Also I feel like all the jailbreaking tool articles might not need "see also" links to rooting and hardware restrictions - each of those articles already links prominently to iOS jailbreaking, which includes usefully-contextualized links in the introduction for rooting and hardware restrictions. Having those articles listed independently in "see also" sections might not add much usefulness... Or do you think each jailbreaking tool article should include a brief summary of jailbreaking, so that the "see also" rule of "should reflect the links that would be present in a comprehensive article on the topic" would apply in this case? Dreamyshade (talk) 22:40, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I suppose this is one of my "tendencies" (for the lack of a better word) to "build the web". But I perfectly admit that many times what I do can easily be considered "overlinking". Do you think I should remove those "see also" sections? I don't have a problem with that (feel free to remove it yourself). The thing about including a (very) small summary about jailbreaking in each article is a very good idea, feel free to do it if you desire, you have my support. --SF007 (talk) 23:33, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, good to have a better sense of your ideas! I don't have a strong enough feeling about "the right thing to do" for these links yet, so I'm just going to leave them alone for now, at least until I come up with a useful brief summary of jailbreaking for those articles. Freeware definition

Hello, I am sorry, but I do not understand some of your edits in the Freeware article.

1. You removed the claim, that "free software" is only sometimes called as "freeware". What was wrong with the removed word - sometimes? I didn't find any reference that justify your edit. This is the previous version of the sentence: "The term "freeware" is commonly used for closed source or proprietary software, but since the term is related to price (and not clearly to issues like license terms, availability of the source code or copyright status) it is sometimes also applied to free software/open-source software"

2. You added the following reference from PC Mag to the beforementioned quoted sentence: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2361876,00.asp . Please, could you explain, how is this reference related to that sentence? I quote from that reference: "The Best Free Software of 2010" ... "By free, we mean you don't pay a dime except for what it costs to download and install the software." As I can understand, this reference is not about freeware and the term "freeware" is not used there at all. I think, this reference is inappropriate.

3. You added the following reference from the cnet website: [9] titled "Top Freeware in Downloads". On that website is a link to a sub-page about VLC Media Player and it states: "VLC Media Player is a longtime open-source favorite, and the latest version offers fixes and feature enhancements for the Mac version that make it a must download." ... "Price: Free" . The term "freeware" is not used at all on that VLC sub-page. Also, there is a Firefox article and there is also no mention about "freeware" [10]. As I can understand, cnet has also no clear definition for freeware and the term is used only sometimes and in a chaotic way.

4. I really do not understand, how could you write this sentence: According to the FSF, "Freeware is a loosely defined category and it has no clear accepted definition". Please, could you add any reference that proves your claim? I am really disappointed of Wikipedia editors when I see these "low-class edits".

5. Why you moved the beforementioned sentence about "loosely defined category" from the first paragraph in the Freeware article? As we can also see from your references, the term freeware is a very loosely defined category. I think, this claim should be in the first sentences describing the term freeware and not somewhere in a fourth paragraph. --89.173.65.92 (talk) 13:09, 9 January 2012 (UTC) ____[reply]

 1. 1 I removed "sometimes", because previous sentences (and also the wording you placed in the article) seem to imply something like "Well, those programs are not really freeware, but people sometimes call them that". I may leave that for now, but I consider the current wording less-than-ideal.
 2. 2 Well, it is about freeware in the sense of the concept of gratis software, but I see your point as it does not mention "freeware". No objections to that removal.
 3. 3 "As I can understand, cnet has also no clear definition for freeware and the term is used only sometimes and in a chaotic way." - Well, I have to strongly disagree with that, I'm pretty sure their definition of freeware goes something like "software you can (legally) download, free-of-charge", as far as I know, they have used that definition consistently. Regarding Firefox/VLC not being directly labeled "freeware", well, they are on the "freeware" category aren't they? it is reasonable to assume CNET considers them "freeware". Regarding the word not being used on their respective pages, that is because that is not necessary. The price is listed as free and a more specific category is "open-source" (which, for most people already implies being gratis like 99% of the time). An analogy is like calling a square a "rectangle" and then someone said "Well, people only call them rectangles sometimes" - That is true, because the word "square" is more specific. But a square is still a rectangle.
 4. 4 The FSF says "The term “freeware” has no clear accepted definition" As I explained in the topic above, "freeware" seems pretty well defined as "free software" / "gratis software" It is also very clear the FSF is highly biased on the subject and does not want their "brand" of "free software" to be "contaminated" by alternative wordings. It is also interesting to note their obvious bias when they state that freeware is "commonly used for packages which permit redistribution but not modification (and their source code is not available)" yet, they conveniently don't use the same wording for their definition of "free software" (which would be factual), but instead choose the phrase "proprietary software companies typically use the term “free software” to refer to price", (conveniently) ignoring the general population also uses that wording in the same sense.
 5. 5 I was actually going to remove that entire phrase as it comes from a clearly biased source, but then I decided to attibute the claim to the FSF and still keep it. "As we can also see from your references, the term freeware is a very loosely defined category" - As I said, I actually see the contrary, thats why I think we are giving undue wegith to put FSF's opinion in the intro.

--SF007 (talk) 14:29, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your answers and explanations. I will try to find some more references about all these problems in next weeks. I think that download servers use the term "freeware" in slightly different ways and the term is often used partly incorrectly, only for its popularity and for making the download webs easier to understand and use.
4. I didn't find any reference about FSF claiming the following exact sentence: "freeware is a loosely defined category and it has no clear accepted definition." That was the reason, why I previously removed "According to the FSF". FSF only claims the second part of that sentence - "it has no clear accepted definition".--89.173.65.92 (talk) 16:43, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My messing up the interwikis on Apple

Thank you for correcting the interwikis! I have absolutely no idea how that happened: I hadn't touched them at all, and I only noticed when I saw your edit. Do you happen to have any idea of the cause? I am on XP, Firefox 8. In the preview, the interwikis looked fine, and they look fine in my version in the History too; only when I click them do I see they lead to a wrong address. I also saw that they were all question marks in Differences view. I have never had this happen before, anywhere. Very strange! Cerberus™ (talk) 04:16, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, no problem. I was actually going to tell you about it. I assumed you used some external text editor without support for those encodings. The root of the problem is likely some software you used that does not support those encodings... maybe XP itself? (although I just did some tests on a XP PC and seemed to work) Firefox 8 seems recent enough to support those encodings... If you run some copy-paste tests maybe you can detect the issue... you can also try another browser like Google Chrome or Opera... PS: Firefox is now on version 9.0.1 ;) --SF007 (talk) 04:36, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I can't believe I missed that, but I may have copied it to and from Notepad++. I never even considered that it might be unable to encode those characters incorrectly. Noted. Thanks for notifying me! Cerberus™ (talk) 02:25, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proprietary software cleanup

I noticed the cleanup messages you placed on proprietary software. While the article has three inline "citation needed" tags, almost all sections are amply referenced. I'm sure there may be sections or facts which need better referencing, but I need to know what they are in order to do that. The same is true of original research or synthesis. Would you take a few minutes to indicate your specific concerns on the talk page? – Pnm (talk) 05:05, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. I've discussed the problems on the talk page. --SF007 (talk) 18:50, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Windows To Go until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Your comments on Software_Freedom_Day page

Hi! I'm a bit puzzled about the "topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's general notability guideline" which you left on the page. There is worldwide press coverage every single year and SFD does keep track of some of those in a page listed at the bottom of the article. Do we need to move all those links to the wikipedia page directly? (it's a lot of links) Else what other reference would you need? SFD is obvisouly worthy of Wikipedia listing... Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.31.190.146 (talk) 11:14, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, at this time the article is very badly sourced. Indeed there are several links in the SFD webpage, and some of them (the ones from "reliable sources") should be added to the wikipedia article to establish notability. --SF007 (talk) 10:48, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited I'm Watch, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page AAC (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A tag has been placed on File:Google Play Music.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the article name that the file is used in tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. License tagging for File:Osnews website.png

Thanks for uploading File:Osnews website.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 22:05, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Created DEX (file format) article, so, I think Dex format can be deleted

A tag has been placed on Dex format, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

DEX (file format) article now exists, which is a better title, so, instead of moving this article, it is better to delete it

Replaceable fair use File:HP tm2 laptop.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:HP tm2 laptop.jpg.

Thank you. ViperSnake151  Talk  20:51, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Avira logo.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. PC World vs. PCWorld™

Hello, I see you were involved in the move of "PC World (magazine)" to "PCWorld (magazine)" on 2012-03-08. This page was subsequently moved from "PCWorld (magazine)" to "PC World" on 2012-10-07 by User:Jenks24. I believe an accurate interpretation of, and in the spirit of, WP:MOSTM would be to have this page moved back to either "PCWorld (magazine)" or "PCWorld". I have, accordingly, created a new comment on the discussion page of the current location here. I appreciate your comment and participation in the discussion there.
Thanks in advance, Enquire (talk) 23:16, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mkamarokcd listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Mkamarokcd. Since you had some involvement with the Mkamarokcd redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). TheChampionMan1234 00:16, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Cubuntu has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No statement of notability, searching google for it returns many results unrelated to this topic, and the ones that do are not reliable secondary sources

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
