Revision as of 02:52, 1 March 2012

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Humza (comedian) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – There has been a number of attempts by anon editors to put fake information in this BLP article. It might just be one anon editor with a dynamic IP address. In any case, it's been going on since February 25th, and some protection is needed. Singularity42 (talk) 02:23, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Project X (2012 film) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Attracting a lot of IP and registered vandalism as it draws to release on March 2, and this type of film is only going to attract more of it on and after the 2nd. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 01:50, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Meek Mill (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Short term BLP vandalism. -- Luke (Talk) 01:30, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Windows 8 (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: The media attention to Windows 8 has led to some insertion of original research/unsourced material, and now, some vandalism.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:29, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Chris Jericho (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Multiple IP sock/meat puppets vandalising the same way (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/98.216.188.72). ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 00:28, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism is ongoing, by the way. 15 different IPs in the last 24 hrs, I make it. All of them making the same edit ("Chris Jericho invented Canada"). ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 01:36, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hugh "Skip" McGee III (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – There is currently a dispute about what should be included in the article between me and two other editors. I suggest full protection until the dispute is resolved. Ramaksoud2000 (Did I make a mistake?) 23:10, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The above is a rather unusual approach! Two other editors (one being me) have removed blog-speak WP:BLP violations from the article, and the response is to undo the removal and request full page protection. I won't argue the case here, but to justify my "blog-speak" description, the change I removed has text like "McGee attacked the school's administration" whereas the NPOV wording was "criticising the school's administration". Johnuniq (talk) 00:21, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Wikipedia:Office actions (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Indefinite full protection: This is an article of instructions that NEEDS to be protected because it is an article with important imformation. JordanKyser22 (talk) 23:07, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. —Eustress talk 23:10, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Kidz Bop (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite semi-protection: Highly visible template – This Article is about a music album called "Kidz Bop". JordanKyser22 (talk) 23:01, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment)If you mean Kidz Bop, than Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. and if your mean {{Kidz Bop}}, than Declined – This template is not used widely enough to be considered a high-risk template.. Armbrust, B.Ed. Let's talkabout my edits? 01:32, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Frank Hopkins (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi protection. Massive amounts of IP vandalism for some reason today. On IP stopped about the time school let out, and another is starting up. Montanabw(talk) 22:42, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Ergonomics (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Regular vandalism by ips, to the point where editors and bots are having difficulties removing the vandalism. --Ronz (talk) 22:30, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Boom! Studios (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Full-protection: Njkaters continues to edit war. I have tried conflict resolution, talk pages, and assistance from other editors, but Njkaters continues to make unwarrented edits removing Andrew Cosby's long-standing status as co-founder, despite a preponderance of evidence from a number of reputable online and print sources supporting the position, including Boom's own comics and numerous interviews with both founders. Njkaters gives no reason for these edits and has not responded to any of the talk pages or attempts to resolve. Please protect this page from continued vandalism. Thank you. Truthsayer2012 (talk) 21:12, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note: (Non-administrator comment) I've left a message for the previous mediator, TranspoterMan, to take a look at the dispute again. Maybe another try at dispute resolution will work. Whenaxis talk · contribs | DR goes to Wikimania! 01:23, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Goofy (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Lots of vandalism. . Hghyux (talk) 21:04, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I need to pint out that this is not a recent problem. The same vandal has for nearly a year now continued to make the same disruptive and vandalized edits at this page, under different ip accounts. This protection should be permanent, not temporary, since this has been going on for a while.--JOJ Hutton 21:11, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Diggy Simmons (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism and unsourced. 99.136.255.180 (talk) 21:01, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question: (Non-administrator comment) You understand that if this page is semi-protected, you will not be able to edit this page because semi-protection disallows IP addresses and non-autoconfirmed registered editors from editing the page. Whenaxis talk · contribs | DR goes to Wikimania! 01:16, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. The assumption is that the protecting administrator will check to make sure they're not 'locking in' any vandalism, and that registered accounts will then be more inclined to watchlist the article, so my involvement will be rendered unnecessary. 99.136.255.180 (talk) 01:39, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And kudos to you for reverting vandalism and using the correct avenues to resolve issues. I highly suggest youcreate an account, there are many benefits :) Whenaxis talk · contribs | DR goes to Wikimania! 02:08, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Unprotection: This is currently a redirect to the iPad, but seems to have been done as a "preemptive" measure a few years ago.Not only is preemptively protecting pages against policy, but current information and reliable sources confirm that the iPad 3 is on its way.
