Daingerfield is a city[1] in Morris County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,517 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Morris CountyTemplate:GR.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 2,517 people, 957 households, and 694 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,043.0 people per square mile (403.2/km²). There were 1,119 housing units at an average density of 463.7/sq mi (179.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 67.46% White, 26.14% African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 3.81% from other races, and 1.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.32% of the population.

There were 957 households out of which 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% were married couples living together, 19.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% were non-families. 25.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the town the population was spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 84.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $28,333, and the median income for a family was $31,625. Males had a median income of $31,154 versus $19,196 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,689. About 20.8% of families and 23.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 35.1% of those under age 18 and 11.1% of those age 65 or over.

Education

The Town of Daingerfield is served by the Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District.

Daingerfeld's athletic program has won state championships in boys basketball (1977), football (1968, 1983, 1985, 2008), boys golf (1969), and boys track (1995).

The football program is quite renowned, with four state championships, six state championship game appearances, and thirty+ play-off appearances.

In addition, their 1983 championship team holds the national record for fewest points scored against in a season (8), and most consecutive shutouts (13). [citation needed]
