M Countdown (Korean엠카운트다운) is a South Korean music program broadcast by Mnet. The show features some of the latest and most popular artists who perform live on stage. It is broadcast from CJ E&M Center Studio in Sangam-dong, Mapo District, Seoul.[1]

Broadcast

M Countdown airs live on domestic television at 6PM KST every Thursday. Live streaming is available internationally via the M Countdown On Air page on Mwave's website.

In the Philippines, online multi-view live broadcast of the show is available via gigafest.smart.[2] It began airing on the free-to-air TV5 network from January 31, 2021—episodes are shown every Sunday.[3]

Segments

Current Segments include MCD Dance Challenge, Storage M, and M Studio. Previous Segments that airing includes B'SHOP where songwriter Bang Si-hyuk introduces some hit songs, MCD DRAMA where the hosts act out scenarios, MCD NEWS which reports the latest music industry news, and MCD Ranking which ranks celebrities with certain topics.

Official hosts

(G)I-dle's Miyeon (left) and actor Nam Yoon-soo (right) began hosting M Countdown as of the February 18, 2021 broadcast.

Between April 2017 and April 2018, each episode of the show was hosted by special guest presenters. Between April 2018 and March 2019, the show was hosted by a "Global MC Crew" of idols who spoke foreign languages.[7][unreliable source?]

M Countdown chart

As of April 26, 2018, the chart featured on M Countdown was calculated by combining Digital Single Sales (45%), Album Sales (15%), Social Media Points (YouTube official music video views + SNS buzz) (20%), Global Fan Votes (global fan votes through Mwave, Mnet Japan and Mnet America + SMS Votes) (10%), and Mnet Broadcast Points (10%), for a total of 11,000 points. As of May 2019, only Exo, Shinee, BTS, Twice, and NU'EST have achieved the perfect score under the then two most recent scoring systems (sixth and seventh systems). Previously, only Girls' Generation achieved the perfect score of 10,000 points, twice, under the fourth and fifth scoring systems in 2013 and 2014.

Winners

While previous revisions of this article included winners for 2004–2007, that information was not supported by any secondary sources since its initial addition in 2011. A lack of coverage of the show on Naver for those particular years makes sourcing the information difficult. As such, those sections have been removed from the page and only winners from 2008 to present are cited.

Triple Crowns

The term triple crown refers to when a song achieves three wins (consecutive or non-consecutive) on the show. After that, it is removed from the chart and is no longer eligible for first place. The following is a list of all songs that have achieved a triple crown on M Countdown from 2008 to present.
