Tip of the Day[edit]
Tip of the moment...
![]() Using templates
Templates are a type of page that contain boilerplate text that is intended to be displayed on more than one page in Wikipedia. This Tip of the day box is an example of a template (there are several versions actually), and besides being displayed here it is displayed on many userpages as well. Template names start with the prefix "Template:" followed by the page name. The main version of the template you are reading right now is called "Template:totd". To display a template on a page, go to the target page, click "edit", and add the template's name (with or without the prefix) surrounded by double curly brackets to the page's source text. (The text you see in the edit box when you click edit this page is called "source text", because it is a lot like programming code, which is called "source code"). Including a template on a page in this way is called "transclusion". Here's an example: To include the Template:Philosophy topics, type this at the end of the philosophy article you wish to place it on::
– – Read more: To add this auto-randomizing template to your user page, use {{totd-random}}

Tip of the day...
List the things to do for an article
If an article has a number of tasks to be handled that are community consensus, you may insert {{todo}} (including the four curly braces) at the top of the article's talk page, and edit it to make the tasks more visible to the public. – – Read more: To add this auto-updating template to your user page, use {{totd3}}
|
The Tip of the Day project provides a different piece of advice for using Wikipedia every day. Like the Picture of the Day, you can include it on your userpage by adding {{totd}} somewhere (at the top of your talk page is a good place for it). The randomized version (displayed above) is {{totd-random}}, and shows a different tip each time it is displayed on your screen. Other formats for the TOTD exist, such as the more compact {{totd3}}, or you can make your own by including {{Wikipedia:Tip of the day/{{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTDAY}}, {{CURRENTYEAR}}}} on your userpage (which includes the raw text, without any formatting) and then enclose it in your own formatting. To float the tip of the day to the right of content (as it is displayed here), place this code where you want the tip to show up: {{right|{{totd3}}}}.
Style tips[edit]
A spin off of the tip of the day, this is another template that provides useful instruction a little at a time.

![]() Currency symbols
In articles that are not specific to a country, express amounts of money in either US dollars, euros, or pounds sterling (choose one only). Don't link the names or symbols of currencies that are commonly known to English speakers ($, £, €), unless there's a particular reason to do so.
Add this to your user page by typing in {{Styletips}} |
To place it on your userpage, copy and paste this:
{{Styletips}}

This is an example of a Barnometer, to display the barnstars you've received in a humorous timescale. You can check the coding and then tweak it according to your own needs. Hold your mouse pointer over each barnstar to read each greeting.

Mottos[edit]
There's a motto of the day project, called, you guessed it: Wikipedia:Motto of the day. To use it, just place {{Motd}} on your user page!
Here's what it looks like:

Pics and images[edit]
There is a huge selection of pictures on Wikipedia and its sister site Wikimedia Commons. Pictures can be a powerful way to express yourself...

Pictures can be found all over Wikipedia, but it can be very time-consuming to hunt for them in the encyclopedia's articles. Another option is to browse Wikipedia's collections...

Picture(s) of the day[edit]
The Picture of the Day, which changes daily, is currently displayed every day on the Main Page, and you can use it to decorate your userpage as well...

Cirsium palustre, the marsh thistle, is a herbaceous biennial (or often perennial) flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It is native to Europe, where it is particularly common on damp ground such as marshes, wet fields, moorland and beside streams. In Canada and the northern United States it is an introduced species that has become invasive. It grows in dense thickets that can crowd out slower growing native plants. Cirsium palustre can reach up to 2 metres (7 ft) in height and features strong stems with few branches which are covered in small spines. In its first year the plant grows as a dense rosette and in subsequent years a candelabra of dark purple or occasionally white flowers, 10–20 millimetres (0.4–0.8 in) with purple-tipped bracts. In the northern hemisphere these are produced from June to September. The plant provides an important source of nectar for pollinators. This C. palustre flower was photographed in Niitvälja, Estonia.

If you'd rather have it without the text (to make it smaller), you can use {{Wikipedia:POTD/{{CURRENTMONTHNAME}}_{{CURRENTDAY}},_{{CURRENTYEAR}} instead.

Logos & symbols[edit]
- Stolen from Supernerd11's page,
<div style="position:absolute; top:-13.2em; left:-15em; background:#f6f6f6; z-index:1;"></div>
- should create a logo that roughly covers the
