Delsort work

Just a quick "thank you" for the work you do with deletion sorting. It's an often thankless job, but one that I really rely on to help chime in on appropriate debates, vs. going through the whole mess of AfDs. You make Wikipedia better by your work. Jclemens (talk) 21:09, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to repeat those thanks. Your work means that I look at more AfDs (especially those of interest to me) than if you did not do so much deletion sorting. I think that AfDs will be more likely to come to the correct consensus because of you. Martin451 (talk) 18:55, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just saw your note on my article. You have to understand that this is a small community in Nigeria still coming up. The references are government, banks, churches and even national dailies in some cases. There is also an ISBN registered book that refers to the place thus I believe these are sufficient. It might not have as much information as New York or London but it does exist. Below are some more links that I found.

http://www.nsukkaonline.net/profiles.htm He is the current Igwe of Ozi-Edem

http://www.nigeria-law.org/Okori%20Nwaezema%20&%20Ors%20%20V%20%20Obeta%20Nwaiyeke%20&%20Ors.htm

Google this link http://www.budgetoffice.gov.ng/pub/sqw.pdf, open the pdf file then go to (page 31 second paragraph). It's the National Budget with Edem listed.

http://ndn.nigeriadailynews.com/templates/default.aspx?a=15995&template=print-article.htm (Refers to a zone of Edem, Akpa-Edem).

30 the film

I did not create this wikipedia article, but was obviously alerted to its presence once someone else had. I noticed you posted it for deletion though, but it adheres to the rules as far as I can tell. there is a very notable actress making her first film in over twenty years. I am not too saavy on how to edit properly on this site as I only joined to fix this matter yesterday, but I believe this is the reference you are looking for.

Discussion regarding deletion of page Mian Muhammad Zia ul Haq Zia

Dear Sir / Madam,

I wrote this page on a great personality who served in army medical core and was awarded with Tamgha-i-Khidmat (medal for good services) from Government of Pakistan. He was a sufi saint and guide of people especially young generation towards spiritual teachings. He has many followers from ordinary people to scholars from different subjects. I just wrote a page on Wikipedia first and a full team is busy in collecting information about his life and welfare works to develop a website. Soon this web site will be available online. We also working to upload his video addresses on web.

You have recently participated in discussion at an AFD for a broadcast station. I have recently posted the above topic on the talk page of the notability guideline for organizations and companies, to see if there is interest in adding language related to the notability of radio and TV broadcast stations to that guideline. Your input would be most welcome. Thanks. Edison (talk) 01:50, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

War of Ideas

Terrorism is political! Most Americans have a one dimensional view of how to use our power, i.e., through force and not persuasion. This article, though in need of further work, should remain and be built upon not summarily taken down because someone doesn't understand it or deems it unimportant. Winning the "war of ideas" IS a new concept that should be learned by more of our leaders. Winning the so-called "hearts and minds" is arguably more important than simply sending bombs.--Abdul Muhsi (talk) 16:29, 11 April 2010 (UTC)Abdul Muhsi[reply]

Request for restoration of Wiki Page - Paramahansa Srimat Swami Nigamananda Saraswati Dev

Hello,

we are the devotees of Paramahansa Srimat Swami Nigamananda Saraswati Dev, who is one of the most revered and beloved Gurus from India. Recently i found that his page "Paramahansa Srimat Swami Nigamananda Saraswati Dev" has been deleted from Wiki.

My sincier request to you and Wiki, to restore the page. If you have any concerns about the content on the page please let us know. If we have not provided necesssry references, then it may be due to our mistake, or we never found out that the page needs some kind of citation or something like that nature. But that does not diminish or falsify the information we provided about our GURU.

Please restore the page , and let us know what are the things you need to adhere to wiki's standards. Actually I am not a very technical person, but I will try to learn and fix those issues.

Vector skin

Since you have been the most devoted AfD sorter, I will say that if you want to go to the new "Vector" skin ("New features" link at top of page), you can now, since John Vandenberg fixed the tool (diff) by my request. You should be able to copy and paste the code from User:Gene93k/monobook.js into User:Gene93k/vector.js. Don't forget to hold Shift while clicking the Reload button after you make the change (to bypass your cache). Thanks! PleaseStand (talk) 20:37, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion regarding deletion of page footytube

I am new to wikipedia and this is my first article. I believe that pretty much everything in the article had been referenced well from sources on the internet - I used Quantcast and Alexa for the site stats and linked.in and the about page to get the staff data. I also referenced The Guardian, and other reputable sources where appropriate, including mentions the site received in The Daily Telegraph (these are 2 of the biggest and most respected newspapers in the UK). And having been listed as one of the Top 25 football websites of 2009 in The Daily Telegraph (it came in at 15th), this surely asserts notability? The trivia could maybe do with some work - I got this mostly from the site forums - having spent the last 2 years as a member there I am pretty knowledgeable on the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. Any advice on how I can improve these references would be most appreciated! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Charliebaudry (talkcontribs) 04:32, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wondering why my Wikepidia page has been deleted. Ron Sharpe I would like to reactivate my page. Thanks, Ron

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 01:35, 17 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Hi Gene93k I'm still new here, curious about Eekster's jump to deleting the Spellfury Wiki before trying other steps. User Eekster seems to be jumping right to deletion of the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spellfury Noticed in the deletion wiki "If the page can be improved, this should be solved through regular editing, rather than deletion." Would love your thoughts, he seems to be frustrating newcomers to wikipedia, could you look at the page and make sure I have enough references that prove notability for the webseries "Spellfury" ? I'm pretty sure I have, still new on wiki :) Showzampa (talk) 17:25, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have asked repeatedly for my page to stop being changed to false post off the internet. it was suppose to be locked forever! please update it with this and lock it

UPDATE! any questions email Donny Long through my website. I would also like all the false bullshit removed please.

Donny Long (born February 15, 1980 in Miami, Florida) is a former American pornographic actor and producer. He began his career as an adult actor and has worked in over 1000 DVD and internet websites movies before retiring in 2010. Here is a list of proof for you guys, of the first 419 scenes performed in less than 2 years into his career http://www.donnylongproductions.com/resume.html Long was born in Miami and moved the Florida Keys at age 18. He dropped out of high school by the ninth grade and became a head mechanic for a shop in miami making more more than his teacher. At the age of 18, Long repaired boats and had a mobile marine service for 6 years. eventually he opened a boat dealership that received good business its first year until 4 hurricanes hit the florida keysand he had to close due to lack of business. Long then entered the adult industry in 2005 working for Florida-based companies such as Bangbros. He moved to Los Angeles and worked as an actor for two years before starting his own production company and studio. He he shot over 500 scenes in one year and then built the second largest porn studio in Los Angeles. He sold his studio to porn.com which currently owns and runs it in Chatsworth Ca. He had an infamous blowup on his set with Chasey Lain, Where she showed up cracked out and 8 hours late. The behind the scenes video has shocked the world and been posted on thousands of websites and thousands of articles have been written about it. if you search Chasey Lain on youtube you will see it up top.

In 2008, he started http://www.xxxfilmjobs.com, a portal for people in the adult industry to network and find jobs. Long used his many contacts in the business and mixed them with the public on his site. New talent gets work everyday connecting with real and famous directors such as bobby manila, Shilar from vivid, Wiked Pictures and about every porn internet and DVD company you can think of. The site has 23000 pages indexed in google and has become a well known site of the adult industry even putting many agencies out of business Long now is retired and runs his many websites. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.78.230.179 (talk) 23:16, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Choaster Coaster has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

redirect from implausible misspelling AFAICT

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Deletion sorting (2)

Thanks for your deletion sorting efforts, much appreciated. Is there a script or tool I can use to save you the bother on my nominations? Cheers, Bigger digger (talk) 00:06, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article on Dean, Smith and Grace has no substance and it is very unlikely that it will attract sufficient interest from historians capable of expanding it in any meaningful way. This is especially true now that the article’s solitary graphic has been removed by the Wikipedia deletion squad. The whole issue of deletion appears to revolve around the determination of a small band to keep a couple of sentences that basically say ‘Once there was a company called Dean, Smith and Grace that made lathes. Now there is another company called Dean, Smith and Grace Lathes that make lathes.’Weiterbewegung (talk) 18:27, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Project Deletion / bands & musicians

I see that the band The Boxing Lesson has been added to this list - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Deletion_sorting/Bands_and_musicians I dont see why this was flagged. This band has a 7 year history of music, 3 EP and 2 LP, the last one distributed by Interscope Records. Its a very informative site and I know I update at times, my interns and sometimes the band. Its a good resource for a band that gets a lot of press.

The band's wiki page has 19 references, and when you check Google "the boxing lesson, austin" - you will see how active they are online. Also the band is active in terms of playing, has played festivals like SXSW, has toured the nation multiple times, worldwide distro on their last album, played the esteemed Daytrotter and is relevant and current.. I ask that you take this band off this list.

All the best,

Ryan C

Article Confirmation

I've done extensive research on this page and it all seems to check out. I don't understand why you would suggest that it should be removed. His music videos are affiliated with MTV, he has a reality show that has been picked up by the CW network, and he has a music and film deal with Universal. He's the youngest owner ever of a professional basketball team which happens to also be global (ABA) He's also one of Atlanta's top producing real estate agents. He is a socialite and exclusive party promoter in the greater Atlanta area as well. He seems to be extremely notable and worthy of a wikipedia entry as far as I'm concerned. His sites www.AdrianProvost.com and www.PlanetProvost.com are very notable, as well as his charity Life Juice. He's had numerous television appearances and is well known throughout society. I've reviewed plenty of articles on wikipedia and I can not seem to find justification for the deletion of this page, but the inclusion of some of those other articles. It doesn't seem to make sense to me, please help me understand this. I've spent a considerable amount of time researching the subject and even more time in contributing to the article. I would appreciate an explanation in further detail and would like to know the necessary steps to get this included so I don't feel as if I have wasted so much of my time. Mistaken listing of Malati Dasi for deletion

Hello Gene93k. As I mentioned in comment on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Malati_Dasi#Malati_Dasi AfD nom, Malati Dasi got listed under AfD by sheer mistake. A fellow editor removed an unreliable source, but the reliable one that stayed in was erroneously cited as the previous unreliable one. I have added a few more WP:RSs ever since and am wondering if you could check if the article really qualifies for a AfD-listing in the first place. Delcan wikipedia page that you tagged

Hi there.

I am a frequent user of Wikipedia and have even edited a half-dozen articles (usually just typos that I find) and one day I got bored and decided to look up the company that I work for, Delcan.

The first thing that I notice is all the tags about neutrality and conflict of interest. As I start to read the page, I recognize it as being a copy-paste directly from our corporate website.

You and I will both agree that corporate websites are filled with bullshit “We’re the best company in the world” but that sort of biased writing has no place on Wikipedia.

I went through the page and tried to delete every time it said “World-leader” “Internationally-recognized” etc in order to make the page sound less corporate-propogandalike, and more Wikipedia-like.

If you take a look at the page now, I hope you’ll agree with me that it now has a neutral tone and I’m hoping that you could remove your “Flagged for neutrality and flagged for conflict of interest” tag.

To be clear, I do work for Delcan, but I’m a lowly engineer and have nothing to do with head office in Toronto – I just don’t like my company looking bad on Wikipedia.

PS – I used a throwaway account “neutrality_nazi” to edit the page because my usual account ID is my name…and I don’t want anyone in head office to know it was me that deleted the corporate propaganda stuff.

Also, I realize that the referencing sucks, so I’ll work on that and then message you back once I get around to it.

Please consider removing the neutrality tags...or let me know what I can do to re-write the jibberish that HR comes up with.

Thanks

Transylvania Television Page deletion

Hello Gene93k,

I am writing to ask if we can get this page un-deleted and then some time and guidance (or direction - point us to a TV wiki page that follows approved standards) on bringing this wiki page up to standards. I thought I would start with you, per the instructions on the deletion, before starting a formal deletion review.

The show *Transylvania Television* has been getting attention in the media and is currently working on shooting new content for Television broadcast this fall. If you can un-delete this page, attention will be brought immediately to bear on updating page content to standard.

Thanks, and regards,

Should we spotlight failures?

For twenty years, Nicholas Longano has been a leading senior executive overseeing the creation of exciting new business models, the development of strategic corporate infrastructures, and the design of unique product launches, particularly in the video game and cosmetic industries.

Currently, Longano is the Chairman, CEO and founder of Music Mogul, Inc. Partnering with Grammy-winning super-producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, he has created the world’s first online music-themed virtual world. Music Mogul offers a place for music fans to discover new music, watch live performances, and even create their own virtual Hollywood apartment. For musicians, Music Mogul is a new platform for exhibiting and promoting music, as well as the chance to compete for a demo deal with Darkchild Productions, awarded every three months. With a unique multi-revenue stream business model and an exciting user experience, Music Mogul has been well received by partners and consumers alike.

Prior to creating Music Mogul, Longano served as president and COO of Brash Entertainment, LLC, a video game publisher specializing in film-based licensed games. Longano was responsible for all video game operations for the development and production of titles for release on PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and DS. He negotiated and identified all film titles and set up the infrastructure and operations for the games publishing and production groups. Longano played an important role in the company’s initial venture capital raise of $150MM

Despite securing 150MM, this enterprise failed and the employees of the partners in Utah were owed 2mm in back wages, and the studio director was convicted of a felony, and sentenced to 6 months in jail.

Just wondering if this was a deliberate decision on your part and, if so, what was the reasoning behind it? Thanks again for all the work you do, Jenks24 (talk) 17:42, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've had trouble running the delsort.js script over the past few days and I have been deletion sorting by hand. I skipped the notices to save time. I'll see what I can do about it Saturday. • Gene93k (talk) 02:12, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Madathattuvilai page edit

Hi, I am from Madathattuvilai. I have been living abroad for the past 13 years. Every time I want to know something about my village, I search online. The other day I found the Wiki entry on my village. But it was totally unreadable, so I made it a little more readable and expanded upon the existing material. The people of Madathattuvilai have tried to trace their history numerous times. There is no big research material available, to my knowledge. The district collector's office in Nagercoil or the village office in Villukuri may have the actual statistics on population and other demographic aspects. But, the information I have provided is absolutely true. I lived in that village for 24 years and I visit the village almost every year. I would be happy if the page is retained so that others may slowly pitch in and improve it with reliable sources. Please feel free to contact me.

Hi there, i have been working on the knomo article/page and am unsure how to improve the page any further - could you give me any suggestions? I have re-written the article and have added links and references to reputable websites including the Evening Standard and The Telegraph and have taken quotes from a book for citations, amongst others. Is there anything else i can do? I believe the page is notable but would love some advise please. Many thanks Caroline Mackay (talk) 15:54, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article for deletion - knomo

I hope you can help - I am working on the knomo article and have added lots of links from reputable websites where they relate to sections of text (The Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard and also refs from a published book to name a few), I have added info to aid notability (the fact that the brand was the first to launch stylish accessories for technology items in the UK) and I have used more simple language when describing the brand to emulate the Wikipedia tone. I am not sure if the article has been reviewed since i have made all the changes but wondered if there was anything else i need to do? If you have any specific suggestions for improvement, I would really appreciate any help you can give? Page patrolling

Hi. Thanks for patrolling new pages. As part of our current drive to improve NPP, I have been reviewing recently patrolled pages. I just wanted to point out that I don't think there's much point in placing 'orphan' tags on articles that are never likely to be backlinked from other pages. Most of these are stubs and it just makes the page look untidy. if you have any questions about NPP, don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page. Questions about DelSorting

Hey Gene93k--

First off, wanted to thank you for your tireless work of sorting AfDs. You've gotten me hooked on it.

Second, what tool(s) are you using to sorting, if any? I noticed you are able to categorize AfDs in some topics (like Video games-related discussions) that I am not able to. If you could let me know (here, as I'm watching your page), I would appreciate it. Cheers, I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 00:14, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at a new article I'm writing? (George E. Crothers)

Hi. If you have a little time, would you be willing to take a look at User:Richwales/Drafts/George E. Crothers and let me know what you think? I think I'm just about ready to move this into the main space, and I'm planning to nominate it for DYK. My main concern is that I want to make sure an uninvolved reader will agree that I've established this man's notability — after recently starting to get involved with AfD, I'd be embarrassed to submit something without realizing it would quickly be deemed non-notable. Thanks for any feedback. Richwales (talk · contribs) 06:14, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Berkshire Gas article

Hi, Gene. I'm seriously impressed with the speed and enthusiasm with which Wikipedians patrol these articles.

My name is Ed Crowder. I am the editor who added the material about Berkshire Gas. As I disclosed, I am an employee of Berkshire's corporate parent, and therefore editing in a conflict-of-interest state. I added this information on my company's authority to serve as the basis for an accurate Wikipedia article. We had found that several of our companies had no presence on Wikipedia, and that the articles about other subsidiaries contained information that was either factually inaccurate or outdated.

I set out to correct that, and have been trying to do so in a way that is both transparent and within Wikipedia's terms of use. I understand why you raised a red flag about the Berkshire Gas article; however, the boilerplate information I provided is what I was authorized by my company to say about Berkshire. I believe it to be factually accurate and neutral in tone. Moreover, my company has specifically authorized its use in this context, knowing it is likely to be altered and embellished by the Wikipedia community.

I believe it is in the interests of the Wikipedia community to have a unique, standalone article about this company. I'd welcome your suggestions as to how I can accomplish that. Edwardjcrowder (talk) 19:37, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Delsort Politics

Hi Gene, the </noinclude> tag has a technical quirk where it will add a line if text isn't placed on the same line as the tag. It isn't noticeable on the page itself, but when the page is transcluded the additional line is apparent. The extra line is visible at WP:WikiProject Conservatism#Dashboard. I'm going to revert, let me know if you have any concerns.– Lionel (talk) 10:09, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Two copyvio tags in one page

Thanks for reporting the copyright problem on the article Florida Hospital East onto WP:Copyright problems. I have noticed that you added two copyvio tags but I also noticed that there was some copyrighted content on the areas that you didn't blank, and thus, I have decided to blank the whole article. From what I've investigated, the lead section had some of the content copied from the source you mentioned, and the second paragraph of the Growth section had text closely paraphrased from http://www.floridahospitaleast.com/news/fheo-opens-newly-renovated-operating-rooms. Anyway, I have removed and rewritten most of the copyrighted content, and we'll wait to see if there is permission on the talk page, but next time you come across a copyright violation (especially when there was only one contributor editing that page) blank the whole article, because there could be more copyrighted content on an article than you think. :) Minima© (talk) 07:37, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

If the Skin (Rihanna song) article's AfD could be closed with no consensus and I re-direct it to Loud (Rihanna album), would that be alright? Because even though WP:SONGS says that notability aside (charting/awards), if there is a lot of verifiable sources, which Skin has, then it can stay, the people on the AfD's main objection is that it hasn't charted, even though there is background info, a lot of composition info and critical reviews as well as a controversial performance, which is the verifiable sources that WP:SONGS speaks of. DelSort issues

Hi Gene-- I'm having trouble with my old delsort function that I'm using from the DelSort WikiProject. Although the "delsort" tab still appears, clicking on it appears to do nothing. I suspect part of the reason is because I recently upgraded to FireFox 8.0, and the delsort stuff has been acting funny (e.g. hovering over the "delsort" tab brings up a drop-down menu with the "close" and "relist", even those these already have separate tabs for me.) Here are the script I'm using in my monobook.js:

importScript('User:AzaToth/morebits.js')
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklefluff.js')
importScript('Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/Add LI menu')
importStylesheet('Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/Add LI menu/css')
importScript('Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/delsort.js')

Kenny Tick Salcido

Gene93k, I am hoping my latest article (my second contribution), can be approved and helped by a Wikipedian. I am knowledgable on the subject of The Latch Brothers and I was happy to contribute that first article and it was an honor. Looking back, I started off the Kenny Tick Salcido (member of The Latch Brothers) article off incorrectly and I have completely revamped the article and did a massive amount of legwork. I am still learning and have much to learn when it comes to wiki and the format but I am reaching out to anyone who can help as I strongly believe this individual ties directly to my previous article both in lineage and his work in that specific music culture.

I am hoping it is an article that can find it's home at Wikipedia. I will work very hard to continue to only contribute quality work as I learn the ways of Wikipedia.

Any help or guidance you can provide or anything I can do further would be more then welcome...

Thank you.

Hey there, I'm following up with you regarding your recommendation in the above referenced deletion discussion. The article as initially presented was about a nonnotable elementary school where the article creator removed the PROD. Generally, I am the first person to redirect schools that fail the notability criteria, so my recommendation would have likely been to redirect as standard outcome. However, while working on a separate article, I ran across some information on the namesake of this school, Clara Byrd Baker. When I saw that an article with her name was up for deletion, I was surprised to see that it was about the school. Opting for an alternative choice to deletion, I have made a major revamp to the article to focus on the person, rather than the school. Accordingly, I am requesting that you take a second look at the article to ascertain its viability. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions. Variable Length Flexible Stylus

Noteability The subject of Silverpoint drawing has "gained sufficiently significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time"[1 An integral part of the medium is the drawing instrument; a stylus of silver is as the violin bow is to the violin. Its historical characteristics are stated by [2] and contemporary studies appear in [3]. There is only evidence referring to an inflexible stylus.

Wikipedia defines notable topics—those that have gained sufficiently significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time. Silverpoint drawing was the training technique of the Renaissance artist for nearly 250 years. It is part of the history of art, taught and practiced to this day requiring the highest level of drawing skill[4]. [5].

Wikipedia states "If the source material exists it will not decrease the subject notability". A variable length flexible stylus has no precedent and therefore no prior documentation. A discovery would not be a discovery if there were prior documentation.

The properties of the VLFS are based on the laws of physics of potential energy which states the energy stored by an object as a result of its position or the position of its parts is potential energy. In this case, extending the tip of the flexible stylus from it's holder results in a loss of potential energy at the tip and resulting lighter line. Mitchsdiamond (talk) 16:02, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The following is background on the discovery for the editors.

The VLFS together with a further discovery solves the enigma of the limited range of values [6] in silverpoint drawing. This United States patent is solely intended to educate and protect the discovery as an American contribution to the field of fine art that had its roots in Europe.

While the discovery of the formula was born directly out of the event of 9-11, an event that changed the world, the discovery is forever linked to American history and the history of art. A contemporary discovery is not the basis to deprive the public of this knowledge without having to disclose how the discovery came about. Mitchsdiamond (talk) 01:13, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion sorting in Clear Books AfD

Hello! I noticed that you added {{delsort}} for the third time in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Clear Books (3rd nomination). Please stop doing that, as I already listed it in this edit and added to list of Software-related deletion discussions in this edit. — Dmitrij D. Czarkoff (talk) 17:51, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A kitten for you!

You do a good job with making sure the AfD noms are listed under the correct category. This is a thankless job but extremely useful in terms of making it easier to respond to them. (And it took me a while to realise you weren't nominating them all, which is hugely embarrassing.) Anyway, fantastic work in this area.

Please help. The John Austin (songwriter) page should not have been deleted.

The following article should not have been deleted:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/John_Austin_%28songwriter%29

All of the information contained in the article "John Austin (songwriter)" is factual. John Austin meets the notability requirements, having worked with many artists of notability, and having released publicly documented works for over 20 years. Paste Magazine has written feature articles on John Austin, and JA's album "Busted at the Pearly Gates" received an honorable mention in Paste Magazine as one of the most important albums of 2002. Please contact Paste Magazine's editor-in-chief Josh Jackson to verify.

Please put the article John Austin (songwriter) back up on Wikipedia. Thank you.

This article was deleted because the administrators overlooked 3rd party reliable sources that were better actually than the administrator's research seemed to show.

Additional online references will be cited to support the notability of songwriter John Austin.

Thank you.

Alicyn Sterling on the porn stars by decade page

Why exactly have you removed her after I placed her name there? She was one of the major minor starlets (and in the pron world, yes there is indeed such a creature) in the porn business in the mid-late 1990's. Yes, I know that she doesn't have her own personal page, but that doesn't mean she doesn't need to be included on a list of the porn stars of the 1990's. And she DID used to have a page, some years back, don't know when or why it was removed.

I put her name back where it belongs on the list. Unless you can come up with some insane brilliant reason why she shouldn't be on the list, which I assure you, you won't leave her name up where it belongs, in the correct place.

Darmund (talk) 21:01, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So Wikipedia isn't supposed to include all human knowledge but just what a bunch of nerds deem acceptable?

I mean I thought there weren't supposed to be any differentiations over whether something deserved inclusion in Wikipedia, but rather that it was supposed to be a database of ALL human accumulated knowledge. There may have been a case in the past when data storage limits were an issue but with the whole cloud thing, there isn't any such issue.

As far as porn stars go, it seems one of the qualifiers is that a porn star must have appeared in at least 100 films. Then why is Marilyn Chambers on the list? She appeared in less than 30 films.

You and your fellow nerds are also guilty of imposing your present day views of what is and isn't popular/well known on the past, especially where Alicyn Sterling is concerned. She was very well known and nominated for a dozen awards during her time in the porn industry. The fact that she has receeded into dim memory by some is immaterial when it comes to determining her status vis-a-vie inclusion on Wikipedia.

As for her not being allowed to be included if she doesn't have her own separate page, that is beyond ludicrous. I can can point out dozens nay hundreds of people mentioned in articles about Tv shows/movies and athletes in various sports and on various teams who don't have their own personal pages and their names haven't been expunged from Wikipedia.

Seems that there is yet another double standard against the porn industry at work here.

Wikipedia is continually bleated and shrieked about and held up as the most accurate encyclopedia EVARS!! by your fellow nerds, but when you exclude for ill-defined and quite frankly retarded reasons people and things who played a majorly minor role in the history of something, in this case the porn industry, you can hardly claim to be all encompassing or authoritative or most accurate.

More like least accurate.Darmund (talk) 16:27, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wikipedia doesn't include everything under the sun. In general, a topic should have non-trivial attention from multiple reputable media sources. As for porn stars, a relevant guideline is WP:PORNBIO. Appearing in X number of films was removed from the notability criteria many years ago. Marilyn Chambers has extensive coverage in multiple books and mainstream media. Chambers also passes PORNBIO as inducted in the AVN Hall of Fame and the XRCO Hall of Fame. Alicyn Sterling lacks the media coverage. Can you provide evidence of the many award nominations that might count towards PORNBIO? • Gene93k (talk) 15:57, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Talk:List of New Jersey breweries requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copyright issue for Daily Post India

Sir,

The page that I created was done because the Managing Director of the organization wanted it to be created.

However, I understand your issues regarding the copyright issue you found with the article and the text on the page http://dailypostindia.com/AboutUs.aspx?mid=53&catid=450

However, I assure you that I am a part of the organization and, in fact, have been given the responsibility of setting up such informative pages regarding the organization all over the Internet.

Since this is the first page I have created on Wikipedia, I am not too sure of what do next.

I can ask the Managing Director to send you an e-mail from his own ID (md@dailypostindia.com) confirming that dailypostindia@gmail.com is in fact an official e-mail for communique.

Would that be enough?

Regards.

Dailypostchandigarh (talk) 10:13, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • First of all, writing about your own organisation is highly discouraged as conflict of interest. As for copyright, someone at dailypostindia.com can send an e-mail to the Wikipedia OTRS office at permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org granting permission to use the content. Once permission is verified, an administrator may undelete the article. Finally, an article about the Daily Post needs to cite references from reliable media other than the Daily Post. Please see Wikipedia's notability guideline for media. • Gene93k (talk) 18:42, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

X Factor contestants - deletions

Hi! I saw that you added Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Janet_Devlin_(singer) to "list of Bands and musicians-related deletion discussions." You may want to also add Talk:Misha_Bryan_(singer). There appears to be a couple of editors who are hellbent on deleting any individual articles of X Factor contestants with no basis in current Wikipedia notability guidelines (and then these editors redirect names back to X Factor pages). The results of these discussions would either improve of notability guidelines or provide precedent in letting the current guidelines stand.-- NewzealanderA (talk) 15:46, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article is a stub of which I've been working on about the model Dudley O'Shaughnessy.

I think an article is of the person is needed on wikipedia. I wanted to give a description of the persons activities as an upcoming model listed on the Next model management website in the talent section and as a former boxer with articles written by the BBC and other reliable websites. I have added more information and many more sources and have tried to make it as accurate as possible.

I do however understand that a previous article was created last year (not by me), having read parts of it I do not see many similarities between the two. The references I have given are a lot stronger and the information although not lengthy is fairly accurate.

I'm asking that you review the article again and rethink your proposal for deletion.

Tiffany Tyler article

Hi, I've seen that you have tagged the article written by me with doubt about notability. Please help me to understand. This actress is mentioned in Internet Movie Database, Internet Adult Film Database, Adult Film database. She's been nominated for AVN awards I've provided a lot of sources for her activity. Obviously are sources compatible with her work, like adult's magazine and adult's website. There are in Wikipedia many actresses (example Dani Jensen article or Tiffany Hopkins article)with fewer references than mine but the're not tagged about notability. I don't understand why my article has been tagged in this way. I'll appreciate very much if you let me know why this difference among my article and the others that I've reported as example.

Thank you very much

Unvisigoth (talk) 18:48, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please see Wikipedia's guidelines for reliable sources and the notability of pornographic actors (WP:PORNBIO). None of the sources cited in the Tiffany Tyler article are reliable. The AVN.com article appears to be a press release and doesn't count. Please also note that editors have tightened the WP:PORNBIO standard so that scene-related awards and nominations don't count toward notability. The Dani Jensen article doesn't meet the new PORNBIO standard either. Editors will get around to it in due time. Tiffany Hopkins narrowly passes PORNBIO with nominations in multiple years (AVN and FICEB). I tagged the article because a single scene-related AVN nomination is not enough. • Gene93k (talk) 19:30, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Aside from that small issue, an article's title on Wikipedia is determined by following the policy viewable at WP:COMMONNAME as opposed to by comparing trademarks or official names. Oh, I thought it was just me. I guess I'll go back to sorting by hand, too. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 00:34, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah ok thanks, glad to know it's not just me. :( — Cirt (talk) 01:18, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DDEX

Why did you change the page: DDEX? Please discuss on the talk page somewhere, I don't understand why you'd do that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.55.154.115 (talkcontribs) 06:21, 2 November 2012‎ (UTC)[reply]

  • The purpose of a disambiguation page is to distinguish between Wikipedia articles, not external links. I reverted the dab page to a redirect because it had only one Wikipedia article. Wikipedia is not a link farm. • Gene93k (talk) 16:13, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Srinubabu Gedela

keep: As per scholar (Google) he has a citation of 147 and his H-index is “8” [7].He is one of the key founding editor for Journal of Proteomics and Bioinformatics.

I request you to check this reference as it can be taken into consideration

Thanks for your comprehensive list of delsorts on this - I am keen to get many eyes on it. I set out to do it myself, got "France" ready, couldn't find "Algeria", and stopped, not wishing to be accused of bias, and decided to leave it to the expert. "Africa" didn't occur to me. RfA?

Hi Gene, I have a quick question for you: Would you be interested in running for adminship? Given that the mood surrounding RfA is currently going through a positive swing, I think you have a pretty decent chance at passing. The main benefit of you becoming an admin would be that it would enable you to close AfD's more often (not just in cases were non-admin closures are allowed). You do some fabulous work at AfD (as I'm sure basically everyone knows). Granting you the ability to have more tools at AfD sounds like a win-win proposition to me! My Edit that you changed

There were two subcategories for Olds that led to the same page and both lists of schools could be found on the Olds page itself so I thought it was pointless to have two lists for the same city when they could be combined in one list. If you see reason and decide to change it back let me know if not tell me why — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.215.123.224 (talk) 02:17, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sand Castles: A Story of Family and Tragedy

This is in regards to Sand Castles: A Story of Family and Tragedy please remove it for deletion, as let me explain the VERY SMALL differences on sources...

I am an Executive for Oceanus Pictures, the owner of the picture.

In an independent film, you don't know what film festival you're going to premiere at until months before. So if we go to Toronto International Film Festival, then the release date would be 2013.

if we go to Sundance is would be very early 2014.

Please let me know any information at all, many of us worked very hard on our Wikipedia & it is completely legit and sourced. I find it very very unfair to pick on a couple million dollar film & all the large ones can have whatever information they want on theirs.

Thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KonstantineUO (talkcontribs) 00:15, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Natchitoches, Louisiana

Hi, Gene. I have been battling the IP vandal at the above page, and many others in Louisiana. The one that likes to describe settlements in his preferred terms regardless of what the sources say? There doesn't seem to be a lot of active editors at the above page except you, so I thought I'd ask you; How would you feel about removing the flag from the infobox? I am wondering if part of what motivates the IP is the fact that the flag does say "Town of Natchitoches". I will leave it up to you. If you agree with me, please remove it and I will defend your choice if there is any dissension. If not, that's good too. Happy editing! Gtwfan52 (talk) 19:48, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tell me what I'm missing here..?

To suggest that the article Shepard Ambellas is a Conspiracy Theory and should be included in a Deletion Debate under that category is not only absurd but preposterous. He is a living person, not a thing (Conspiracy Theory) This is becoming a disgrace the way this is being handled and appears to be outright censorship and a violation of Freedom of Speech - at least in the United States when an individual talks about many subjects it doesn't make THEM the subject they talk about. Explain you reasoning for including Shepard Ambellas is a Conspiracy Theory Delete Discussion - I'd like to hear it as would many others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Excaliber12 (talkcontribs) 02:13, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
