Revision as of 22:10, 6 September 2016

Hi JDC808, I'm beginning the copy-edit for the above article that you requested on the GOCE request page. Feel free to contact me, or to correct or revert my edits if I'm doing something I shouldn't. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:23, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you again. --JDC808 04:27, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In 'Critical reception' --> 'Collections' there are two 'reception' tables, but there are three collections listed in text - 'Collection', 'Origins Collection' and 'Saga'. Which table relates to which collection? I plan to add a condensed title in brackets in the boxes next to 'Reception'. I've also adjusted the text formatting in 'Games' --> 'Collections' to avoid whitespace in the centre of the section; though I think I need to do more work there! Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:02, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The first is for God of War Collection and the second is for the Origins Collection. I hadn't added one for God of War Saga as it doesn't have a GR or MC score (yet at least) and only one of the two reviews there I found gave a score. When I added the tables, I lined them up with the "collection's" paragraph they belong to. --JDC808 04:16, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying - I'll probably deal with that section tomorrow - I'm breaking off for now. I can re-adjust the whitespace to line up again, but it really does look awkward on my 4:3 monitor. I'll see what the MOS says and get back to you if I find anything relevant. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:33, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. I just had an idea, and maybe you agree. The collections do add a bit of extra bulk to the article. When the first collection came out (and any collection like this), I was against the notion of creating separate articles for collections in general because the games already have complete articles and these would be better as just sub-sections on the series page. Since this particular series has grown to feature 3 collections, I'm now in consideration of creating one separate article dedicated to the 3 collections (and any others they may release). Do you think this would be a bad idea, or do you think this would actually be better for the series article? --JDC808 04:48, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think there's enough material for a separate collections article, especially if more are released. More detail and reviews could be added without swamping the rest of the 'series' article, and summaries left in 'series'. Don't move it yet though, or the text won't get copy-edited. :-)Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 05:06, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, cool, and will leave it there so it can be copy-edited. Thanks. --JDC808 05:13, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well I couldn't find a way to add titles to the tables without upsetting the wikicode, so I've left them alone. I've also removed the track listing from 'Music' and the 'Other appearances' section. the former isn't really necessary - the GoW game series is the focus of this article. The latter is covered in the Kratos article, and again is redundant here. The text is on the article talk page; feel free to replace them if you wish. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 05:46, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, no problem. --JDC808 18:22, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done - I added alt text to images and titled the tables as above; finally worked out how to do it! :-D Feel free to contact me about any issues arising from the copy-edit; good luck with your planned FA nom. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 22:25, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. I do have a question regarding two previous copy-edits that you've done for me. Could you look over the Plot sections for both God of War (video game) and God of War II? They've been changed some since you originally copy-edited them and I wanna make sure they're still good. I also added a paragraph to the development section on God of War. I've also added a sentence or two to the very beginning of the Release sections on both articles. --JDC808 00:36, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, since I've done them before I'll have a look. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 00:59, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done x2. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 02:29, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. --JDC808 02:31, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. :-) As for the present article, I couldn't find anything in the MOS specifically covering use or distribution of whitespace, and it might be a good idea to get a Peer Review before nominating. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 02:29, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, and speaking of Peer Review, after I nominated God of War: Chains of Olympus for FA, and though it passed after the second attempt, I've made it a plan to have all these GoW articles (ot at least the ones I think really need it, like the series page) Peer Reviewed before FA nom. I currently have God of War (video game) up for Peer Review. --JDC808 02:45, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to say sorry about your GOW fac getting archived again, I don't quite get why, I thought it had a few supports. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 20:25, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I don't really understand why either. It had 6 supports versus 2 opposes. I dropped a message at GrahamColm's talk page asking why. --JDC808 20:27, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to depend partly on who you get reviewing it. I had Ian Rose and I noticed the Broken Sword has him as well, and he seems more willing to say "Ok this has support but I want to see a review of this before I pass it". So in my case he wanted someone who wasn't a gamer to review it, and on Broken sword, last time I checked he had asked for an image review. Graham seems more happy to just shut down a nom. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 10:06, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

His reasoning was because someone had said its prose isn't "brilliant and professional" and Graham agreed with that. I asked Graham to provide an example of where it's not "brilliant and professional" because a copy-editor who copy-edited after that comment said it looked excellent. He has yet to provide an example. --JDC808 18:13, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

_______________________________________________

They not the creators of the SERIES. They are only the directors of the games. The only creator of the series in general is David Jaffe. That's why I edited. Please, keep in that way. ---- Lemaroto (talk) 16:55, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

God of War I and II

I believe you are mistaken by labelling my edits "good faith" and reverting them. I tried to get rid of superfluos details from the plot, I believe the plot was already over 700 words, and I tried to make sentences more concise and flow more. Please explain as to why you should revert on both articles. You stated I added unecessary detail when I did not, I condensed information. --JTBX (talk) 02:46, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if you read my Edit Summary, I said why I reverted. For example, unnecessary detail. On GoW1, at the beginning of the section, you added "Kratos stands atop a large cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea and jumps, to his apparent death." This is unnecessary detail. Yes, this is the very first scene, however, we don't need an exact play-by-play (and this does get mentioned, so we don't want repetition). Another example, "Although Ares intended for this act to make Kratos the perfect warrior without any emotional bondage." The italicized portion is again, unnecessary detail. In one spot, there's a weird insertion of a sentence. "Kratos becomes plagued by nightmares of his horrible deed and commits to ten years of servitude to the other gods of Olympus to atone and rid himself of the visions. Now Ares wages war on Athens. Tired of his servitude,..." The italicized sentence is very random and out of place. I will say, this sentence (or at least what it's saying) can be useful, just not there. As per the plot summary length, that actually says "There is no universal set length for a plot summary, though it should not be too excessively long." I've had both GoW1 and 2 copy-edited in August conveniently by the same editor and he does a pretty good job at trying to cut out superfluous details, making it more concise, and making the article flow better. I'm not saying he's perfect, but he does a good job and is better than myself. --JDC808 03:48, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try a second time, let me know what you think. However, I did not understand your revert of GOW2.--JTBX (talk) 14:25, 7 November 2012 (UTC) Your point about the sentencing is correct, if only you did not revert me on GOW 2 when that was what I was targeting. Read the Gow 2 Plot.--JTBX (talk) 14:40, 7 November 2012 (UTC) I unreverted you on the GOW 2 plot because there are so many problems with it I do not know where to begin, please read the the plot before and after.--JTBX (talk) 17:47, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Arkham City

Hi JDC808, I've been trying to burn through some of the bookmarks I had on Arkham City, so I've made the following 3 large edits to it. I know you said if I wanted your input to ask so if you get time please take a look and feel free to give any input.

Looks good. I made a small tweak which was changing "WiiU" to "Wii U". --JDC808 05:10, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot JDC :D. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 13:44, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. --JDC808 01:50, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How come they didn't promote when you had more supports? Darkwarriorblake (talk) 12:11, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Another editor, who gave his support and has been helping out with copy/editing the page, asked Graham Colm if the nomination could be reopened as per what I had said on your Talk page. Graham Colm said "Sorry but no. After nearly two months at FAC, there was no clear consensus to promote." (even though it was 3 supports and 1 oppse). He also said that "spotchecks of sources for close-paraphrasing and verification still need to done." despite the fact that the same editor had done so on a lot of the sources. He later said he doesn't think it's ready. You can see the discussion here it you'd like. The most annoying part is that I, and you as well, have to wait two weeks to be able to nominate again. I don't know what I need to work on because he closed it before the user who opposed had another look to see if we addressed the issues, and I know you're in that same boat, at least for Arkham City. --JDC808 21:16, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...reading that, his answers seem unfair and POVish, "he doesn't think they are ready" so tough tomatoes; multiple 'low-brow' games fail including GoW with 3 supports whereas he seems to have an interest in biology, and the more 'prestigious' bio article on James_Bryant_Conant passes no problem with 5 supports. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 21:44, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If it's any consolation, I'll try to review Arkham City the next time you nominate it. I was planning to do that this week, but it was archived before I had the chance. I'll also reaffirm my support on the next GoW nom. —Torchiest talkedits 21:48, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are you interested in Tomb Raider? — ΛΧΣ21 06:08, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've only played a very little bit of two of the games and I believe that's one of them. I never really had an interest for the games or movies, but I can try and help out. Is there any particular areas of the article you think need attention? --JDC808 06:15, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I will write the first game from scratch. I won't do it yet because I am finishing another project for FAC first, but I guess i will start it next month... Id like you to give me a hand overall, and then do a co-nom at FAC :D — ΛΧΣ21 04:16, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I've got to turn you down. As I indicated to Khanassassin before I copyedited his article, it was a one-time situation. • You know, I really want to. But I think the delegates are cracking down on what I think is gamer bias. Like, since we're all from the Video Game Project, and we may Support the article, they might not accept them since we are gamers. Look at this. I'm amazed this is being said about us being a "fraternity". So as such, and I wish I wouldn't have to, must decline on reviewing it. GamerPro64 06:57, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's unfortunate and unfair as per delegates IMO. --JDC808 07:18, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Coming to consensus on video game console acronyms

Hi JDC808,

As you might recall, a little while ago I made some edits on the article on God of War II. Amongst other things, I removed the acronyms PS3 and PS2 in the lead*, which you reinstated later on. The reason why I did that is that I don't think it is relevant to mention the way consoles are usually shortened. Like you said Wikipedia isn't just for gamers, so I always make sure that in article bodies it is spelled out PlayStation 2 or something similar (X360 -> Xbox 360, NGC -> Nintendo GameCube). But I'm not trying to convince you, I'm trying to find a consensus: 'cause at the same time, on Wikipedia we do write PSP, PS Vita, and Nintendo DS. Also, it seems, the PlayStation 4 will be marketed as PS4 so it seems obvious to me to go for those acronyms throughout articles.

I think when the name of the console is first used in the article, we should identify the acronym. We don't necessarily have to use the acronym ourselves when we're writing the article(s) or adding information, but if we do, it'll be covered, and also, quotes often use the acronyms. Also, if a non-gamer reading these articles come across an article or something else that uses the acronym but doesn't identify what the acronym means, they might remember it from reading it here. --JDC808 20:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I also want to congratulate you on the great work you've been doing on the God of War articles. Like Darkwarriorblake runs a tight ship on Dishonored and Masem on BioShock Infinite you got a good understanding of Kratos and bloody murder in ye olde Greece. Thanks for that.

Thanks. I'm actually surprised there aren't more people on Wikipedia interested in editing the God of War articles. Oh well, I enjoy it and hope to eventually bring all of them to FA. I've got Chains of Olympus there, and currently have God of War 1 up for FAC. --JDC808 20:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway, let me know what you think what's the right way to go by acronyms. Otherwise we can always drop by those guys.

Thanks, and happy editing. --Soetermans. T / C 20:08, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I also hate that and actually google searched why people do that. --JDC808 20:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page appearance: God of War: Chains of Olympus

This is a note to let the main editors of God of War: Chains of Olympus know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on April 19, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or one of his delegates (Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs)), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 19, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

God of War: Chains of Olympus is a 2008 third-person action-adventure video game. It is the fourth installment in the God of War series and a prequel to the original God of War. It is loosely based on Greek mythology and has vengeance as its central motif. The player controls Kratos, a Spartan warrior who serves the Olympian Gods. Kratos is guided by the goddess Athena, who instructs him to find the Sun God Helios, as the Dream God Morpheus has caused many of the gods to slumber in Helios' absence. The gameplay is very similar to that of its predecessors, with a focus on combo-based combat. The game features quick time events that require the player to complete game controller actions in a timed sequence to defeat stronger enemies and bosses. The player can use magical attacks, and the game also features puzzles and platforming elements. Debuting at No. 5 on the North American charts, Chains of Olympus achieved the highest composite score for a PlayStation Portable title from Metacritic and GameRankings. It has won several awards, including "Best PSP Action Game", "Best Graphics Technology", and "Best Use of Sound". By June 2012, the game had sold 3.2 million copies worldwide. (Full article...)

God of War (video game), Making of article

You should incorporate Edge's The Making of God of War into the Wikipedia article. It has only just appeared online this weekend, but was originally published in 2009, and has been available all this time from the (much underused) VG Reference Libary. Featured articles should be a thorough and representative survey of the relevant literature, so don't forget print. - hahnchen 20:31, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. I'll try to read over that tonight and see what I can do about implementing it. In regards to print, I don't really have access to physical print sources (I don't subscribe to any gaming magazines etc.), unless those print sources are also available online. --JDC808 01:40, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly you need to read the plot

I did not add a single piece of unnecessary detail...in fact when I first saw it I was surprised as more detail was added than last time...the only thing I did was rearrange some sentencing to make it read anf flow better. LOOK at the differences...I made cuts not additions, further more it is important to clarify certain details like how Prometheus was found on the finger because both him and Typhon are titans and it confuses people. Also this game came out before God of War III, we don't need revisions in the plot to reflect a new addition to the franchise as that constitutes real world information. --JTBX (talk) 07:18, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll point out all areas of unnecessary detail,:

  1. 1st paragraph:
    1. "The eagle reveals itself to be Zeus, who states he was forced to intervene against Kratos as Athena refused to do so."
      1. "against Kratos" is unnecessary detail. It's already implied who Zeus is against.
  2. 2nd paragraph:
    1. "She instructs Kratos to find the three Sisters of Fate,"
      1. It's already been established there's three sisters, why state it here again?
    2. "chained to one of Typhon's fingers"
      1. Completely unnecessary. You said it's important because it confuses people, how? It states that Prometheus is a Titan twice: right before this statement and in the Characters section. Also, with my reversion on this, the sentence flows smoother and it states that he's in mortal form because of Zeus.
  3. 3rd paragraph:
    1. "Just before reaching the island,"
      1. You're removing this, why? Removing this causes two problems, 1.) that's 3 consecutive paragraphs that begin with "Kratos", and 2.) there's no segway from paragraph 2 to 3.
  4. Last paragraph:
    1. As per WP:INUNIVERSE, if it helps the reader, it should stay. No other game in this series has an ending that is also the next game's beginning.

Oh, and I have read the plot, numerous times. --JDC808 08:12, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Characters of God of War

I would love to, and I applause your great excursions to improve the God of War content, but I don't think you want my vote, because I believe articles such as this one are not lists, but articles. There is too much prose and many other structural issues that show it to be in fact an article not a list. I would nominate it for Featured Article status instead. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 16:22, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There's a rather lengthy discussion regarding this situation. I had nominated it at GAN, but it failed because they said it was a list. --JDC808 19:53, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:God of War 3 toys.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:God of War 3 toys.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Ghost of Sparta FAC

Hi, you might want to raise more awareness of the FAC if you want to keep the ball rolling. At the moment there are two supports and one oppose -- unless you can get two or more supports, the FAC might not pass. Although you and I do not agree with jps's stance, you need several more supports to give the nomination its best chance of success. I suggest you issue more notifications at the appropriate WikiProject talk pages, or ask two or three people to participate in the process using neutrally-worded requests. --Sp33dyphil ©hatontributions 04:18, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kratos

Hello. I originally edited that sentence because, as said previously, it's a statement that's hyperbolic and also unsourced, which is a perfectly valid reason for its removal (re: your initial response on the edit page). I'm aware of the positive reception the character has received, but to boldly claim that Kratos ranks up there with the likes of Sonic or Lara Croft (neither of whom are actually mentioned in the article) and Mario without any third-party source cited therein rates as simply personal opinion. sixtynine • spill it • 02:40, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence itself comes from a Featured Article which does not source it, which it doesn't need sourced. It is sourced that he's a video game icon. The second part is saying he's a newcomer in this group, which includes those other characters who've been around far longer, and unless you do not know much about video games, it's practically common knowledge that those others are icons. --JDC808 02:53, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:God of War III cover art.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for the reword on this. I could not tell either when I added the info, but I thought it was talking about the game, not the series (figuring the sales from HD 1.5 Remix), but that does seem exorbitant. Welcome to the 2014 WikiCup!

Hello JDC808, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition will begin at midnight tonight (UTC). There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! Hey—missed your comment at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/God of War III/archive2. The issue with the image is that it contains copyrighted material. So if I were to wear a shirt that had the GoW III box art silkscreened and my shirt was prominent in the image, Commons wouldn't be able to host the image (even if the image is licensed cc-by or freer) because it contains copyrighted work that restricts further free use (commons:Commons:Licensing#Derivative_works). czar  23:35, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for late response. So if the pic didn't have the box art, it would be fine? --JDC808 20:21, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm less sure about that part. The box art is definitely copyrighted, but I don't know if the other stuff falls under the same guideline that, say, a picture of a product like an Xbox would. Okay, found it. That "product packaging" part applies, though I can't really see the item on the right, and I'm not sure if the case in the middle counts as "3D art". I recommend asking someone on one of the copyright boards first (and if you wouldn't mind pinging me, I'd like to know the answer myself). Edit: Looks like the Xbox would be an item of "daily use" (link), though as part of a limited edition, I doubt the case in the middle qualifies. czar  20:28, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Let it go

Seriously, man, let it go. That's how some people get off. Curly Turkey (gobble) 00:21, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2014 January newsletter

The 2014 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with, at time of writing, 138 participants. The is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2010. If you are yet to join the competition, don't worry- the judges have agreed to keep the signups open for a few more days. By a wide margin, our current leader is newcomer Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), whose set of 14 featured pictures, the first FPs of the competition, was worth 490 points. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

Featured articles, featured lists, featured topics and featured portals are yet to play a part in the competition. The judges have removed a number of submissions which were deemed ineligible. Typically, we aim to see work on a project, followed by a nomination, followed by promotion, this year. We apologise for any disappointment caused by our strict enforcement this year; we're aiming to keep the competition as fair as possible.

Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may be interested to take part in The Core Contest; unlike the WikiCup, The Core Contest is not about audited content, but, like the WikiCup, it is about article improvement; specifically, The Core Contest is about contribution to some of Wikipedia's most important article. Of course, any work done for The Core Contest, if it leads to a DYK, GA or FA, can earn WikiCup points.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2014 February newsletter

And so ends the most competitive first round we have ever seen, with 38 points required to qualify for round 2. Last year, 19 points secured a place; before that, 11 (2012) or 8 (2011) were enough. This is both a blessing and a curse. While it shows the vigourous good health of the competition, it also means that we have already lost many worthy competitors. Our top three scorers were:

  1. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer whose high-quality scans of rare banknotes represent an unusual, interesting and valuable contribution to Wikipedia. Most of Godot's points this round have come from a large set of pictures used in Treasury Note (1890–91).
  2. Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions), a WikiCup veteran and a finalist last year, Adam is also a featured picture specialist, focusing on the restoration of historical images. This month's promotions have included a carefully restored set of artist William Russell Flint's work.
  3. United States WikiRedactor (submissions), another WikiCup newcomer. WikiRedactor has claimed points for good article reviews and good articles relating to pop music, many of which were awarded bonus points. Articles include Sky Ferreira, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus and "Wrecking Ball" (Miley Cyrus song).

Other competitors of note include:

After such a competitive first round, expect the second round to also be fiercely fought. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2, but please do not update your submission page until March (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. WikiCup 2014 March newsletter

A quick update as we are half way through round two of this year's competition. WikiCup newcomer Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (Pool E) leads, having produced a massive set of featured pictures for Silver certificate (United States), an article also brought to featured list status. Former finalist Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) (Pool G) is in second, which he owes mostly to his work with historical images, including a number of images from Urania's Mirror, an article also brought to good status. 2010 champion (Pool C) is third overall, thanks to contributions relating to naval history, including the newly featured Japanese battleship Nagato. Rhodesia Cliftonian (submissions), who currently leads Pool A and is sixth overall, takes the title for the highest scoring individual article of the competition so far, with the top importance featured article Ian Smith.

With 26 people having already scored over 100 points, it is likely that well over 100 points will be needed to secure a place in round 3. Recent years have required 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) and 100 (2010). Remember that only 64 will progress to round 3 at the end of April. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page; if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. WikiCup 2014 April newsletter

Round 3 of the 2014 WikiCup has just begun; 32 competitors remain. Pool G's Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Round 2's highest scorer, with a large number of featured picture credits. In March/April, he restored star charts from Urania's Mirror, lithographs of various warships (such as SMS Gefion) and assorted other historical media. Second overall was Pool E's Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), whose featured list Silver certificate (United States) contains dozens of scans of banknotes recently promoted to featured picture status. Third was Pool G's United States ChrisGualtieri (submissions) who has produced a large number of good articles, many, including Falkner Island, on Connecticut-related topics. Other successful participants included Rhodesia Cliftonian (submissions), who saw three articles (including the top-importance Ian Smith) through featured article candidacies, and Washington, D.C. Caponer (submissions), who saw three lists (including the beautifully-illustrated list of plantations in West Virginia) through featured list candidacies. High-importance good articles promoted this round include narwhal from Canada Reid, iain james (submissions), tiger from Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and The Lion King from Minas Gerais Igordebraga (submissions). We also saw our first featured topic points of the competition, awarded to Nepal Czar (submissions) and Indiana Red Phoenix (submissions) for their work on the Sega Genesis topic. No points have been claimed so far for good topics or featured portals.

192 was our lowest qualifying score, again showing that this WikiCup is the most competitive ever. In previous years, 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) or 100 (2010) secured a place in Round 3. Pool H was the strongest performer, with all but one of its members advancing, while only the two highest scorers in Pools G and F advanced. At the end of June, 16 users will advance into the semi-finals. WikiCup 2014 June newsletter

After an extremely close race, Round 3 is over. 244 points secured a place in Round 4, which is comparable to previous years- 321 was required in 2013, while 243 points were needed in 2012. Pool C's Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) was the round's highest scorer, mostly due to a 32 featured pictures, including both scans and photographs. Also from Pool C, Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished second overall, claiming three featured articles, including the high-importance Grus (constellation). Third place was Pool B's , whose contributions included featured articles Russian battleship Poltava (1894) and Russian battleship Peresvet. Pool C saw the highest number of participants advance, with six out of eight making it to the next round.

The round saw this year's first featured portal, with Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions) taking Portal:Literature to featured status. The round also saw the first good topic points, thanks to Florida 12george1 (submissions) and the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. This means that all content types have been claimed this year. Other contributions of note this round include a featured topic on Maya Angelou's autobiographies from Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions), a good article on the noted Czech footballer Tomáš Rosický from Bartošovice v Orlických horách Cloudz679 (submissions) and a now-featured video game screenshot, freely released due to the efforts of Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions).

The judges would like to remind participants to update submission pages promptly. This means that content can be checked, and allows those following the competition (including those participating) to keep track of scores effectively. This round has seen discussion about various aspects of the WikiCup's rules and procedures. Those interested in the competition can be assured that formal discussions about how next year's competition will work will be opened shortly, and all are welcome to voice their views then. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Sleeping Dogs

Hey, Jdc, how's it going! I was wondering if you could help me with Sleeping Dogs (video game) since I really need help with it. Ever since I joined Wiki I have been trying to tackle the article alone but I can't seem to do it by myself wit the amount of experience I have. Is there any way you could help me take it to GA? I know you usually only edit God of War related articles, but this one is rated B class so it should be an easy thing for both of us. What do you think? WikiCup 2014 August newsletter

The final of the 2014 WikiCup begins in a few short minutes! Our eight finalists are listed below, along with their placement in Round 4:

  1. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer, finished top of Pool A and was the round's highest scorer. Godot is a featured picture specialist, claiming large numbers of points due to high-quality scans of historical documents, especially banknotes.
  2. Scotland Casliber (submissions) is a WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist every year since 2010. In the semi-final, he was Pool B's highest scorer. Cas's points primarily come from articles on the natural sciences.
  3. Nepal Czar (submissions) was Pool A's runner-up. Czar's points come mostly from content related to independent video games, including both articles and topics.
  4. Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Pool B's runner-up. Another featured picture specialist, many of Adam's points come from the restoration of historical media. He has been a WikiCup finalist twice before.
  5. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) won the WikiCup in 2012 and 2013, and enters this final as the first wildcard. She focuses on biology-related articles, and has worked on several high-importance articles.
  6. Florida 12george1 (submissions) is the second wildcard. George's points come primarily from meteorology-related articles. This year and last year, George was the first person in the competition to score.
  7. Colorado Sturmvogel 66 (submissions), the third wildcard, was the 2010 champion and a finalist last year. His writes mostly on military history, especially naval history.
  8. Canada Bloom6132 (submissions), the fourth and final wildcard, has participated in previous WikiCups, but not reached any finals. Bloom's points are mostly thanks to did you knows, featured lists and good articles related to sport and national symbols.

We say goodbye to this year's semi-finalists. Herm Matty.007 (submissions), Ohio ThaddeusB (submissions), United States WikiRedactor (submissions), Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions), Greece Yellow Evan (submissions), Portugal Prism (submissions) and Bartošovice v Orlických horách Cloudz679 (submissions) have all performed well to reach this stage of the competition, and we hope they will all be joining us again next year.

There are two upcoming competitions unrelated to the WikiCup which may be of interest to those who receive this newsletter. The Stub Contest will run through September, and revolves around expanding stub articles, especially high-importance or old stubs. In addition, a proposal has been made for a new competition, the GA Cup, which the organisers plan to run next year. This competition is based on the WikiCup and aims to reduce the good article review backlog.

There is now a thread for brainstorming on how next year's WikiCup competition should work. Please come along and share your thoughts- What works? What doesn't work? What needs changing? Signups for next year's competition will be open soon; we will be in touch. If, at this stage of the competition, you are keen to help the with the WikiCup, please do what you can to participate in review processes. Our finalists will find things much easier if the backlogs at good article candidates, featured article candidates, featured picture candidates and the rest are kept at a minimum. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Reigning champion Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) is in second place with a number of high-importance biology articles, including new FA Isopoda and new GA least weasel. Scotland Casliber (submissions), who is in his fifth WikiCup final, is in third, with featured articles Pictor and Epacris impressa.

Signups for the 2015 WikiCup are open. All Wikipedians, new and experienced, are warmly invited to sign up for the competition. WikiCup 2014: The results

The 2014 WikiCup champion is Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), who flew the flag of the Smithsonian Institution. This was Godot13's first WikiCup competition and, over the 10 months of the competition, he has produced (among other contributions) two featured lists and an incredible 292 featured pictures, including architectural photographs and scans of historical documents. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), 2012 and 2013 WikiCup champion, came in second, having written a large number of biology-related articles. Scotland Casliber (submissions), WikiCup finalist every year since 2010, finished in third.

A full list of our prize-winners follows:

Congratulations to everyone who has been successful in this year's WikiCup, whether you made it to the final rounds or not, and a particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup who have participated this year. We warmly invite all of you to sign up for next year's competition. Discussions and polls concerning potential rules changes are also open, and all are welcome to participate. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2014 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! WikiCup 2015 is just around the corner...

Hello everyone, and may we wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2015 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. We have a few important announcements concerning the future of the WikiCup.

  • We would like to announce that Josh (J Milburn) and Ed (The ed17), who have been WikiCup judges since 2009 and 2010 respectively, are stepping down. This decision has been made for a number of reasons, but the main one is time. Both Josh and Ed have found that, over the previous year, they have been unable to devote the time necessary to the WikiCup, and it is not likely that they will be able to do this in the near future. Furthermore, new people at the helm can only help to invigorate the WikiCup and keep it dynamic. Josh and Ed will still be around, and will likely be participating in the Cup this following year as competitors, which is where both started out.
  • In a similar vein, we hope you will all join us in welcoming Jason (Sturmvogel 66) and Christine (Figureskatingfan), who are joining Brian (Miyagawa) to form the 2015 WikiCup judging team. Jason is a WikiCup veteran, having won in 2010 and finishing in fifth this year. Christine has participated in two WikiCups, reaching the semi-finals in both, and is responsible for the GA Cup, which she now co-runs.
  • The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. While it may be impossible to please everyone, the judges will make every effort to ensure that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2015 launch newsletter

Round one of the 2015 WikiCup has begun! So far we've had around 80 signups, which close on February 5. If you have not already signed up and want to do so, then you can add your name here. There have been changes to to several of the points scores for various categories, and the addition of Peer Reviews for the first time. These will work in the same manner as Good Article Reviews, and all of the changes are summarised here.

Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round, and one of the new changes this year is that all scores must be claimed within two weeks of an article's promotion or appearance, so don't forget to add them to your submissions pages! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! Template:GameFAQs

Hi. There is a TfD for {{GameFAQs}} in Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2015 February 8 § Template:GameFAQs. (It generates an external link to gamefaqs.com.) It is relisted, so I thought it'd be a good idea to call people who work in the relevant field, such as yourself.

One minor issue: The relisting admin was a little bit – shall we say – disenfranchised by unrelated discussions like the general merit of GameFAQs links outside the EL section. So, I'd appreciate if such discussions were either totally avoided or kept to a bare minimum. Thanks a lot. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 04:49, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2015 March newsletter

One of several of Godot13's quality submissions during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader Australia Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge, Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.

In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:

You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck!

Good luck! Invitation

WikiCup 2015 May newsletter

C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) is a long-period comet discovered on 17 August 2014 by Terry Lovejoy; and is one of several Featured Pictures worked up by India The Herald (submissions) during the second round.

The second round one has all wrapped up, and round three has now begun! Congratulations to the 34 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our second round. Leading the way overall was Belarus Cas Liber (submissions) in Group B with a total of 777 points for a variety of contributions including Good Articles on Corona Borealis and Microscopium - both of which received the maximum bonus.

Special credit must be given to a number of high importance articles improved during the second round.

The points varied across groups, with the lowest score required to gain automatic qualification was 68 in Group A - meanwhile the second place score in Group H was 404, which would have been high enough to win all but one of the other Groups! As well as the top two of each group automatically going through to the third round, a minimum score of 55 was required for a wildcard competitor to go through. We had a three-way tie at 55 points and all three have qualified for the next round, in the spirit of fairness. The third round ends on June 28, with the top two in each group progressing automatically while the remaining 16 highest scorers across all four groups go through as wildcards. Good luck to all competitors for the third round! Hi JDC. Where in the article does this bit come from? "features quick time events that require the player to complete game controller actions in a timed sequence to defeat stronger enemies and bosses." - Dank (push to talk) 23:26, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's one of the common gameplay elements of the series. --JDC808 02:44, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, I'm still not seeing it, which paragraph? - Dank (push to talk) 02:50, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There's a link that says "Common gameplay elements in the God of War series". --JDC808 02:51, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks, I see that. I'll pull just the part from TFA that isn't in this article ("that require ..."), because the TFA column has to come from the lead of the article. I can add it back if you can add that bit both to the text for this article and to the article lead, along with sourcing. Otherwise ... was there anything I left out of the TFA column you'd like to see included? I enjoyed the article btw. - Dank (push to talk) 02:58, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I can think of, thanks. --JDC808 03:00, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"A little too far"

Following core guidelines is going a little too far? Wikipedia is not a game guide; we cannot be too detailed. You're effectively undoing my copyediting and condensation. ViperSnake151  Talk  04:24, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I know about guidelines etc. I've brought several video game articles to FA class. You're worried about being too detailed, but the article could actually use more if you want this to be a GA and eventually FA (for example, the lead needs expanded). --JDC808 04:33, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Destiny

Ha! I don't generally edit video game pages but without knowing anything about the subject I could tell that IP's edit was deeply flawed. That it was flawed on more than one level makes it all the better. Thanks for the heads up. SQGibbon (talk) 21:13, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2015 September newsletter

The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.

In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far Scotland Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was Philadelphia Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.

The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1. Belarus Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
  2. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
  3. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
  4. Somerset Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
  5. Washington, D.C. West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
  6. Somerset Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
  7. United States Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
  8. England Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.

The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.

Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

Destiny reputation?

Hi JDC808,

I'm on my phone, not sure if the diff works, but what does reputation mean? The article mentions reputation before in the gameplay section, about the player character's reputation. The post-release content section uses the term out of nowhere: "The expansion added new content centering around the Hive race and their deity Crota, led by new character Eris Morn ("Crota's Bane" reputation)". Soetermans. T / C 08:59, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've just checked it again on my laptop. "Reputation" is mentioned 11 times in the article, from being mentioned earlier I don't understand what "Crota's Bane" reputation, "Queen's Wrath" reputation or "House of Judgment" reputation means. --Soetermans. T / C 11:51, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Reputation is kind of like experience points for the different factions/vendors in the game. When you earn enough reputation, you rank up with that vendor and can buy their items, and each time you rank up, you get a reward from that vendor. This article explains reputation in RPGs, which is kinda similar to how it is in Destiny. http://www.giantbomb.com/reputation/3015-2741/ --JDC808 22:15, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Uh, yeah, I know what reputation is, it's just isn't clear what "Crota's Bane" reputation and that stuff means. The bit: "The expansion added new content centering around the Hive race and their deity Crota, led by new character Eris Morn ("Crota's Bane" reputation)", is not clear to me, does Morn have that reputation? Does defeating Morn mean gaining "Crota's Bane" reputation? If so, what does that do? --Soetermans. T / C 23:12, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You asked what does reputation mean.....Crota's Bane is a faction and Eris Morn is the vendor for it. Same applies to the others you mentioned. --JDC808 00:06, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, I didn't ask what does reputation means. My first message was "The article mentions reputation before in the gameplay section, about the player character's reputation. The post-release content section uses the term out of nowhere", so I did notice reputation was mentioned before and that the post-release content section uses it out of nowhere. Second message was "I don't understand what "Crota's Bane" reputation, "Queen's Wrath" reputation or "House of Judgment" reputation means", so I am saying I don't understand what reputation means in this section, not that I don't understand what reputation means. In my edit you reverted I removed these references to reputation, not the ones in the gameplay section. Back to Destiny: It is not clear that Morn and the others are the vendors in their respective DLC, and what they offer isn't explained and how or why it differs from the core game. So why it is notable to be mentioned I don't see either. --Soetermans. T / C 01:40, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2015: The results

WikiCup 2015 is now in the books! Congrats to our finalists and winners, and to everyone who took part in this year's competition.

This year's results were an exact replica of last year's competition. For the second year in a row, the 2015 WikiCup champion is Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points). All of his points were earned for an impressive 253 featured pictures and their associated bonus points (5060 and 1695, respectively). His entries constituted scans of currency from all over the world and scans of medallions awarded to participants of the U.S. Space program. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came in second place; she earned by far the most bonus points (4082), for 4 featured articles, 15 good articles, and 147 DYKs, mostly about in her field of expertise, natural science. Belarus Cas Liber (submissions), a finalist every year since 2010, came in third, with 2379 points.

Our newcomer award, presented to the best-performing new competitor in the WikiCup, goes to United States Rationalobserver (submissions). Everyone should be very proud of the work they accomplished. We will announce our other award winners soon.

A full list of our award winners are:

We warmly invite all of you to sign up for next year's competition. Discussions and polls concerning potential rules changes are also open, and all are welcome to participate. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2016 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. WikiCup 2016 is just around the corner...

Hello everyone, and we would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2016 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. There are some changes we'd like to announce before the competition begins.

After two years of serving as WikiCup judge, User:Miyagawa has stepped down as judge. He deserves great thanks and recognition for his dedication and hard work, and for providing necessary transition for a new group of judges in last year's Cup. Joining Christine (User:Figureskatingfan) and Jason (User:Sturmvogel 66) is Andrew (User:Godot13), a very successful WikiCup competitor and expert in Featured Pictures; he won the two previous competitions. This is a strong judging team, and we anticipate lots of enjoyment and good work coming from our 2016 competitors.

We would also like to announce one change in how this year's WikiCup will be run. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Godot13 and Cwmhiraeth have chosen to limit their participation. See here for the announcement and a complete explanation of why. They and the judges feel that it will make for a more exciting, enjoyable, and productive competition.

The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. The judges are committed to not repeating the confusion that occurred last year and to ensuring that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

January 2016

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. - theWOLFchild 21:38, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

One of Adam Cuerden’s several quality restorations during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Forty-seven competitors move into this round (a bit shy of the expected 64), and we are roughly broken into eight groups of six. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups.

Twenty-two Good Articles were submitted, including three by Connecticut Cyclonebiskit (submissions), and two each by Denmark MPJ-DK (submissions), Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), Florida 12george1 (submissions), and New South Wales Cas Liber (submissions). Twenty-one Featured Pictures were claimed, including 17 by There's always time for skeletons Adam Cuerden (submissions) (the Round 1 high scorer). Thirty-one contestants saw their DYKs appear on the main page, with a commanding lead (28) by Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions). Twenty-nine participants conducted GA reviews with Lancashire J Milburn (submissions) completing nine.

KI Seasons

So basically a season is a bundle of characters and enhancements that are released for the base KI. Season 1 is Eight Characters + One bonus, 2 has Nine, 3 has another Eight. S1 contained the base game, S2 had Shadow Lab and S3 has a mode we really know nothing about sofar. So it isn't really episodic since every character can interact with every mode. Any other confusion? Zero Serenity (talk - contributions) 18:34, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Zero Serenity: That basically just sounds like yearly DLC/updates. The article itself doesn't explain it well. --JDC808 18:53, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FP of Christ Church Cathedral, Falkland Islands by Godot13

Round 2 is over and 35 competitors have moved on to Round 3.

Round 2 saw three FAs (two by New South Wales Cas Liber (submissions) and one by Montana Montanabw (submissions)), four Featured Lists (with three by England Calvin999 (submissions)), and 53 Good Articles (six by Lancashire Worm That Turned (submissions) and five each by Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), and Denmark MPJ-DK (submissions)). New God of War (PS4)

Hey JDC808, the God of War (PlayStation 4 video game) is the reboot or Main Series. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 179.99.114.52 (talk) 19:48, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

God of War

Since he's a developer working on the game, I won't dispute it. However, I'd like to point out that the developers said the same thing about Dragon Age: Inquisition when that was announced, and now the BioWare site says it has an open world, so if another developer contradicts this statement, or even Sony Santa Monica themselves, I'll add that info back in. Plus, to a developer, they may not consider it open world, but it may fall under the definition of open world. It's a very ambiguous term. Most people, when they think of open world, they think of GTA and Skyrim. However, because sources back these up (I.e. Reviews from reliable sites), games such as Borderlands, Dark Souls, and even Inquistion are all in the open world category. Therefore, I'll also add the category back if, when it's reviewed, reliable sources call it an open world game or say it has an open world. But until then, I'll be keeping updated with any new information.Dohvahkiin (talk) 22:08, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

God of War Origins Collection (PS Vita)

Oh JDC8o8, will it take long to announce God of War: Origins Collection for PlayStation Vita. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.95.192.158 (talk) 18:20, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea. Since they haven't done it yet, I don't think they will, though it is still possible. However, the PSP versions of Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta can be downloaded to play on the Vita. Last month, Ghost of Sparta was free with PlayStation Plus and this month Chains of Olympus is. --JDC808 18:24, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know these details right now. What's on the article is what's been announced. --JDC808 22:51, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

God of War Collection (PS4)

Oh JDC8o8 a question, God of War III Remastered released for PlayStation 4, well I was thinking about God of War Collection to PlayStation 4 Remastered the two games for God of War I and II. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.189.148.243 (talk) 01:48, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea if they will do that. It would be cool, but right now if you want to play them on PlayStation 4, you can play the remastered PS3 versions through the streaming service PlayStation Now. --JDC808 02:10, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WWE Universal Championship

I've hit 3 reverts already on the WWE Universal Championship over that fake image. I can't revert that fake image anymore without risk. I warned them on their talk page but they aren't listening. With it being a fake image would that constitute Vandalism?? Chris "WarMachineWildThing" (talk) 04:43, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in the process of reporting them now. --JDC808 04:44, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I was going to, but it appears he's taken the hint. Someone posted a final warning on his talk. --JDC808 04:46, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Listen, asshole.

The WWE has already announced that Lesnar's nickname is the one in 23-1 when Orton did a promo on it. Don't empty-threaten me with bullshit.

First, learn how to be civil. Second, why didn't you say that in an edit summary, or provide a source to back your claim? --JDC808 12:29, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Someone doesn't know proper grammar

So after you added the missing comma earlier in the evening [this] happened. I got it fixed, your right Seems like everyone who edits wrestling articles don't like serial commas. lol Chris "WarMachineWildThing" (talk) 06:54, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

BusriderSF2015

I have a bad feeling about this user. I've warned them before about removing stuff and personal attacks calling editors trolls which they deleted and called me a flamer and I see they reverted your edits on SmackDown Tag Titles which were correct grammar that you got fixed, I reverted them on removal of the belt design as well, I foresee them starting an edit war. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" (talk) 03:03, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ugh, one of those people. --JDC808 03:04, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, they were warned and asked why they reverted you by an Admin and Bus deleted it from his talk and pretty much called them a flamer too Chris "WarMachineWildThing" 09:12, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

FAC voluntary mentoring scheme

During a recent lengthy discussion on the WP:FAC talkpage, several ideas were put forward as to how this procedure could be improved, particularly in making it more user-friendly towards first-time nominees. The promotion rate for first-timers at FAC is depressingly low – around 16 percent – which is a cause for concern. To help remedy this, Mike Christie and I, with the co-operation of the FAC coordinators, have devised a voluntary mentoring scheme, in which newcomers will guided by more experienced editors through the stages of preparation and submission of their articles. The general format of the scheme is explained in more detail on Wikipedia: Mentoring for FAC, which also includes a list of editors who have indicated that they are prepared to act as mentors.

Would you be prepared to take on this role occasionally? If so, please add your name to the list. By doing so you incur no obligation; it will be entirely for you to decide how often and on which articles you want to act in this capacity. We anticipate that the scheme will have a trial run for a few months before we appraise its effectiveness. Your participation will be most welcome. WWE Tag title renamed too

WWE renamed the tag titles to Raw Tag Team Titles too on WWE.com. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 01:21, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have no clue how to move articles Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 01:27, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Okay, I can move it here in just a bit (if no one else has done it by then). For future reference, to move an article, there's a little box directly to the left of the search bar that says "Move". When you click on it, a drop down box appears and click Move again, there you can change the article name, state the reason, and then click to move it. --JDC808 01:29, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok so I tried and it said I didn't have permission or the page already exists. I'll let it to someone else to move. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 01:32, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I got that error too. It's because of where someone else had tried moving it before it was officially renamed. Will have to request its move. --JDC808 01:34, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, well that explains that then. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 01:35, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
