My Edits

I would like to apologize, I often forget to use the edit summaries. Almost all of my minor edits are to remove dead links or fix small things. I generally try to go back in and put in an edit summary if i forget but if you ever need any help clarifying please feel free to post a question.
Thanks.

About barnstars

Anyone can award them, see Wikipedia:BARNSTARS. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 00:08, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Naming references

See if you can use "name" with references so that you only need to give the full reference once, and then after that refer to it just by the name. This means that the reference will only appear once in the "References" section, but each statement cited to it will still have the footnote number related to it.

A random example to see how it works: Keep Calm and Carry On - the Guardian article is cited three times in the article, and the New York Times magazine article is cited twice, but each of them is only listed once in the References section.

Let me know if you need any help with it. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 00:23, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Your next challenge

... or in fact, two challenges.

You have done a great job on The Academy at Lincoln so far, but there are two really big issues that put it at risk of being deleted, or at least "redirected" so that the page just takes the reader to the page about your school district.

First, you need to make a strong statement in the lead of the article about why the school is unique, special and/or notable. You must make a clear claim as to why the school might meet the general notability guideline.

Second, and this is very much related to the first item, you need to find sources about the school that are independent of the school. So that means not the school website, not a teacher's website, and not the school district website. Check the link I posted on the talk page for the article, scroll through the pages, and see what's the best you can find. Or, ask a teacher or school librarian for help. Any printed newspaper - or electronic copy of one, or webpage from one - is a big step in the right direction. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 23:43, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Early College at Guilford

I looked around The Early College at Guilford and it led me to this reference.

So, that URL would be a good reference to support your sentence in the lead about The Early College at Guilford (although it lists it at 18th, not 17th.)

See if you can use the "cite web" ref format to include it. Here's an example of how it's used:

<ref>{{cite web|title=New members honored in National Maritime Hall of Fame|work=Marine Log Magazine|url=http://www.marinelog.com/DOCS/NEWSMMIX/2009feb00061.html|date=February 6, 2009|accessdate=February 18, 2010}}</ref>

(Just replace each item after the = with the information for the Guilford reference - if any item isn't available, just miss that item out.)

This would be the first third party (independent) reference for the article. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 22:33, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Image

Although you've done well to get an image of the school in place, there is a possibility that the fair use rationale you've given won't be accepted.

So if you have a digital camera, or know someone that does, try to take a photo of your own and upload it to Wikimedia Commons with a free license. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 07:05, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Categories

Wikipedia:Categorization is a bit long, but this bit is relevant: "Pages are not placed directly into every possible category, only into the most specific one in any branch. This means that if a page belongs to a subcategory of C (or a subcategory of a subcategory of C, and so on) then it is not normally placed directly into C. For exceptions to this rule, see Eponymous categories and Non-diffusing subcategories below."

I'm not even going to try and summarize Eponymous and Non-diffusing, but I think you may be putting your article into too many categories. So if it's in "Schools in North Carolina" then it doesn't need to be in "Schools in the United States". Or something like that. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 02:29, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Bullet point lists

In The Academy at Lincoln, I think it would be better if all of the current bullet point lists were re-written as prose. I think each of these can be summarised in one or two (or maybe three) sentences. Give it a try. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 23:33, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

why when on your page it says you don't care about football, do you feel the need to keep editing correct information about something you don't have a clue about. Or are you one of those people who gets their kicks by being a nazi on here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danwba (talkcontribs) 9:30 am, Today (UTC−4)

Ok so if its on soccer base then put in a <ref> tag for it and it wont be removed bc if you put in different info with out citing refs for it it appears as vandalism. I admit i probably should have assumed good faith, but just to clarify an external link does not count as a reference. @ d \/\/ | | | Talk to Me! ~Adwiii 13:40, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
I have gone in and added soccer base as a <ref> tag where i though applicable you may need to further add in more tags and revise where i put some in. i apologize for being a "nazi" although you need to properly reference your information. @ d \/\/ | | | Talk to Me! ~Adwiii 16:41, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Puzzling. Try copying exactly what I said above, after "something like", and don't add the bolding to it. If that works, then try it with the bolding. ----Demiurge1000 (talk) 22:04, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Procrastinator userboxes

To complete the set, you could do a "Procrastinator neutral" userbox which uses "themself" instead of "himself". Interestingly, there are some editors (including a few administrators) who have never disclosed what gender they are. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 15:36, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Reviewer permission

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:38, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

I removed unsourced information from 2007, took out promotional charity stuff with no source, removed original research about traffic from 2008, and cleaned the formatting up. Azhuras (talk) 19:17, 16 April 2011 (UTC): Okay so not all of it was vandalism, however the pictures, the part about the origin of the name, and the part on the web traffic should not have been removed.

Yes the part about the Image removal did need to be either taken out or sourced/reworded. @ d \/\/ | | |Talk 19:26, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
To be honest, I probably shouldn't have tagged you for vandalism. However the removal of the pics would count as censorship which i could tag you for. @ d \/\/ | | |Talk 19:29, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Oh, okay. Well you can put them back I guess if it's been discussed before. I just thought they seemed unnecessary but it's a matter of personal opinion and I didn't mean to be disruptive. Azhuras (talk) 19:36, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

About Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi's Wiki Page

Dear Adwii, You are definitely not a Sahaja Yogi or a devotee of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi. You have added a lot of unnecessary and untrue things about her in her page. The Ragneesh Osho thing that you have added is not true at all and that stuff about the national flag is absolute unnecessary. This may confuse the new seekers and they might change their mind about Sahaja Yoga and Self Realization. You see that whenever someone reads about Sahaja Yoga on the Internet they search for it for detailed explanation on Wikipedia and this might be misleading to them. You have also not added many important facts like incurable diseases cured by her etc.Me and my friends have decided to reedit this page in such a way so that it will be more acceptable and understandable for the new seekers and it will also provide a more detailed information about her.I hope for your cooperation.Thanking you in anticipation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SameerTelkar (talkcontribs) 17:14, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Well for the Deadliest catch userbox it could be modeled like this

I believe if you put in the color code you want in it will display as such. But then also the id box will display that as well.
Or the alternative is the HTML for the Dark Blue you speak of (#000080) is "Navy" and the HTML for the sky blue you wanted (#00BFFF) is "DeepSkyBlue". For a full list of the colors and their names you can also check Web Colors#X11 color names. Hope that helps,  Adwiii  Talk  21:55, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

And I will check on the coloring. Adwiii  Talk  22:13, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Ahhh Adam the Problem with the DeepSkyBlue is you arent doing it properly. you have it as {{User:Adwiii/UBX/color/DeepSkyblue}} and it needs to be {{User:Adwiii/UBX/color|DeepSkyBlue}} You are using a forward slash ( / ) instead of a pipe ( | ). I eill work on the other color UBXs too.  Adwiii  Talk  22:17, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I kept on forgeting. Well, thanks for your help and what about the don't like and hate colour UBXs?  Adam mugliston  Talk  22:20, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

I have created both of them at User:Adwiii/UBX/colorhate and User:Adwiii/UBX/colornolike. hope you enjoy them,  Adwiii  Talk  22:24, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

The Special Barnstar
For all the great userboxes you made for me!!! Please note: This barnstar may be changed, if I can get someone to make a UBX barnstar.  Adam mugliston  Talk  22:33, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, there isnt a UBX barnstar the closest i can find is the Graphic design Barnstar or the special one. Anyway thanks Adam,  Adwiii  Talk  22:49, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Adwiii, I was thinking if it would be possible to make a UBX, that said 'This user thinks route (parameter) is one of the best bus routes in London', but when you type in a route, the picture changes to a picture of that route?  Adam mugliston  Talk  16:53, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I assume you want like a map of the route? I am not sure if I can make this happen but I will try,  Adwiii  Talk  23:52, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Could you possibly find an example of one of the pictures you had in mind. Thanks,  Adwiii  Talk  23:55, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
No, I meant a picture of a bus on the route. See Articulated buses in London, there's a couple there.  Adam mugliston  Talk  06:29, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Hows this,
This user thinks that London's bus route #18 is the best.

{{User:Adwiii/UBX/busroute}}

This user thinks that London's bus route #12 is the best.

Right now routes 12, 33, 337, 493, 190, 112, 143, (326 A), 394, (7 A), 171, (59 A), (68 A), 211, 36, 436, 360, 316, 19, 303, 204, 21, 141, 111, H32, 110, H98, 70, 162, 163, 93, ELS, H12, 376, 58, 297, 182, 15, 333, 57, 296, 394, R68, C1, 95, 177, 291, 386, 96, G1, and 18 work
This is as many as I know that work there may be others that work but I do not know. Sorry for the spotty coverage of routes, but that is the best I can do given UBX parameter options. Hope you like it,  Adwiii  Talk  11:06, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

That's great, thanks. How did you work out what routes are available? I'm pretty sure 11, 23 and 73 would work.  Adam mugliston  Talk  06:48, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Well i used the File:London Bus route ___. jpg pictures, however not all of the bus routes are available under this format. Adwiii  Talk  11:27, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Was chatting to Demiurge and he mentioned there may be something I've missed. If so, I'm very sorry, I could well have overlooked something. Let me know how things are going and if there's anything I can do to help. WormTT · (talk) 22:46, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

List of bus routes in Colchester colour

Hi Adwiii, there's a problem with the colour underlining. It's black. When I tried to make it back into colour the text also changed. Do you think you can fix it?  Adam mugliston  Talk  17:36, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

That's fine. Thanks Adwiii. It's weird, that on my laptop the colourof the underline doesn't come up...  Adam mugliston  Talk  07:12, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
@Adam: different browsers do behave differently for coloured underlining. Try this - hover your mouse over either the "Red" or the "rose64" in my signature and note which characters get underlined. When I do this in Internet Explorer (6 or 7), Opera or Google Chrome, all nine characters get underlined; but when I try it in Firefox or Safari, only the characters "rose64" are underlined, whereas the "Red" isn't. I think that Adwiii is a Firefox user, because at the top of the page the " Adwiii " shows up with round ends in Firefox, but square ends in IE, Chrome, Opera and Safari.
@Adwiii: I've seen what you have done for the colouring on List of bus routes in Colchester and I think it's a big improvement over what was there previously. The fact that the text is now all in the "normal" colouring (black on white, or near enough) certainly satisfies the accessibility issues. One small point: the coloured rectangles are a bit "in your face" - could they be smaller perhaps?
How do you feel about taking on the other bus-related pages in Category:Articles overusing colours? --Redrose64 (talk) 12:21, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Haha, yes indeed you are right. That is one of the only reasons I use FireFox, it makes my pages look better (everyone else says chrome is better but indeed it is not). And yes I will look into the other over colored pages and try to fix the sizing in this one.  Adwiii  Talk  21:06, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
So right about Firefox. It is so much better!  Adam mugliston  Talk  06:23, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

For your ongoing efforts to make Wikipedia more comprehensible to people who find difficulty understanding unclear use of colour, I give you this barnstar because accessibility is even more important than translation, for some people. Thanks Demiurge, I plan on continuing on through the rest of the Bus route pages too, although it may take me some time (wikitables are hard!). Thanks for the *,  Adwiii  Talk  00:19, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Userbox Request

Hello, I recently made a WikiFauna page for the WikiPuma. I am not gifted at userboxes, so I would greatly enjoy it if you could make one for the page. I imagine it as using the puma picture in the userbox that states a cougar is one's favorite animal, and the text would be something like, "This user is a member of the endangered WikiPuma species. Approach with caution and professional grammar." Thank you in advance! Pumagirl7 Meow · Follow 23:04, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

GOCE May mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 54 people who signed up this drive, 32 copy-edited at least one article. Last drive's superstar, Lfstevens, again stood out, topping the leader board in all three categories and copy-editing over 700 articles. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We were once again successful in our primary goal—removing the oldest three months from the backlog—while removing 1166 articles from the queue, the second-most in our history. The total backlog currently sits at around 2600 articles, down from 8323 when we started out just over two years ago.

Coodinator election: The six-month term for our third tranche of Guild coordinators will be expiring at the end of June. We will be accepting nominations for the fourth tranche of coordinators, who will also serve a six-month term. Nominations will open starting on June 5. GOCE July 2012 Copy Edit Drive

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their July 2012 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on July 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on July 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to eliminate the articles tagged in April, May and June 2011 from the queue and to complete all requests placed before the end of June. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 6 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in April–June 2011", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg.

GOCE mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

  • Participation: Out of 37 people signed up for this drive so far, 19 have copy-edited at least one article, about the same as the last drive. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!
  • Progress report: We're almost on track to meet our targets for the drive. Great work, guys. We have reduced our target group of articles—August, September, and October 2011—by about 44%, and the overall backlog has been reduced by 58 articles so far, to around 2600 articles. The biggest difference between this drive and the previous one is a stronger focus on large articles, so total word counts are still comparable.
  • Don't forget about the Copy Edit of the Month contests! Voting for the August contest has been extended through the end of the month. You don't have to make a submission to vote!

GOCE September 2012 drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The October 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.

GOCE November 2012 copy edit drive update

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

  • Participation: Out of 31 people signed up for this drive so far, 22 have copy-edited at least one article. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!
  • Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive. We have reduced our target group of articles—November and December 2011—by over 50%, and 34 of the the 56 requests made in September and October this year have already been fulfilled. However, the rate of tagging for copy edit has increased, and this month we are just keeping the size of the backlog stable. So, all you copy editors, please do come along and help us!
  • The September 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest was won by Baffle gab1978 for his copy edit of Expulsion of the Acadians. Runner up was Gareth Griffith-Jones for his edit of I Could Fall in Love. Congratulations to both.
  • The October 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the discussion and voting stage until midnight November 30 (UTC). You don't have to make a submission to vote!
  • November 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the submissions stage until midnight November 30 (UTC), when discussion and voting begin.
  • Seasonal oversight: We had a slight fall from grace in the title of our last newletter, which mentioned the season in the northern hemisphere and thus got it wrong for the southern. Fortunately an observant GOCE member was ready to spring into action to advise us. Thanks! In future we'll stay meteorologically neutral.

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

GOCE July 2013 news report

Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter
  • Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. If you have signed up for the drive but have not yet participated, it isn't too late. If you haven't signed up for the drive, sign up now!
  • Progress report: Thus far we have reduced the number of May/June 2012 articles to just 124 articles, so we're on the right track. Unfortunately, for the first time in GOCE history, the number of articles in the backlog has actually gone up during this drive. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. We have over 500 editors on our mailing list, but only 18 editors who have done a copy edit for the drive. If you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you have an interest in copy editing. Join the drive! Even if you only copy edit one article, it helps. Imagine how much progress we could make if everyone chipped in just one article.

– Your drive coordinators: Torchiest, Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95, and The Utahraptor.

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot

We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.

IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.

Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
