Admin Coaching Re-confirmation
[edit]Hello, previously you expressed interest in participating in the Wikipedia:Admin coaching project. We are currently conducting a reconfirmation drive to give coaches the opportunity to update their information and capacity to participate in the project. Please visit Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Status to update your status. Also, please remember to update your capacity (5th table variable) in the form of a fraction (eg. 2/3 means you are currently coaching 2 students, and could accept 1 more student). Thank you. g'day tawker.....
[edit]and I hope you're good! - I thought I'd drop you a line with a couple of questions - firstly to see if you had any idea when / if Mediawiki might have RSS capabilities at all... I'm presuming the answer is that it just can't do it, and it's not on the horizon - but it's worth asking anywhooo, I guess. It also leads me to my more cheeky question - which is to see if you would be at all interested in creating notthe.wikipediaweekly.org at all, and maybe hosting an mp3 file or two? - my small efforts in encouraging community chit chat are intended to be complementary to your own esteemed 'round tables' and interviews - and I've had a few emails from people asking about an RSS feed - which I think is a good idea in principle, but lack the clue to implement / deliver.....
give some thought, and let me know if something like kicking in for the hosting costs might be appropriate, or if you've got any questions at all.... cheers - Privatemusings (talk) 02:30, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Jimmy Wales protection
[edit]Why is there any level of protection on the article Jimmy Wales, yet there are few other biographies of living persons on Wikipedia that are so protected? Is it because you and Jimmy don't trust the "wiki way" to produce responsible, accountible reference pages related to living people, but you extend the courtesy of "protection" to those who are on the "inside"? It just doesn't seem fair. Like a Chevy salesman who won't let his family drive anything but BMW's. You seem like a hypocrite, just like Jimmy. - Six Eleven (talk) 22:17, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikimedia Mention
[edit]Heya, is seems redundant. :) Can we remove it? REgards, NonvocalScream (talk) 01:02, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- It is redundant yes - and yet in the interests of transparency it makes sense to make it stand out that we're writing about something closely associated with the site. I took the idea from Wikinews - basically keep it as a disclaimer notice. I'm not going to edit war over it - it just seemed a good idea to me -- Tawker (talk) 01:05, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good enough reason to me. I'm not set on reverting anyone. :) Best, NonvocalScream (talk) 01:20, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

- Okay this is just me (sorry to bother you again) but do you know how to multi ref the same thing? I think there was something like that when I was reading how to do references a while ago, but I guess, the same resource is used twice and the second time the cite note click doesn't work because it brings it to:
- instead of:
- and replacing the brackets with the greater than and less than method of ref just creates duplicates in notes
- (well, as far as I know on my browser), just something trivial Noian (talk) 21:22, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm curious about the reasoning behind this move - I added a note on this here: Talk:The Spirit#Move/name. (Emperor (talk) 00:56, 26 June 2008 (UTC))
- Concur with Emperor — please discuss before making such a drastic change. Wiki policy is not to begin article names with definite (e.g. "the") or indefinite (e.g. "a") articles.
- If you would go to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (definite and indefinite articles at beginning of name)#Other cases, in fact, you will see Joker (comics) used as an example of proper naming. He's the Joker, as Denny Colt is the Spirit. "Joker (comics), "Spirit (comics)". Thanks, -- Tenebrae (talk) 05:18, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

CFS Intro
[edit]Dear Tawker, I'm going to revert your last edit to CFS regarding the mandate issue. I'm also reminding you that I would like you to remove the paragraph you added as you know it is not sourced and not relevant. Nocandu1976 (talk) 19:39, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- The first has been reviewed by another party and edited to that extent. The second paragraph is entirely relevant given the legal papers served surrounding using "CFS" to describe a provincial chapter which brands itself as "CFS." The section has been directly cited and additional cites available via simple web searches. I'm not removing it. -- Tawker (talk) 20:33, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Tawker: With the first sentence, your second edit to that is fine, although I saw no reason to tinker with the sentence in the first place. my mistake I just got mixed up between that and your first edit which wasn't so neutral sounding.
With the second paragraph, it's relevancy is in question, it is not notable, and it is an non-constructive edit. Howcome you didn't bring this up in the discussion page like you are supposed to. You are on wikipedia long enough you should know this.
Also, you added another unqualified edit to the 2008 referendums section. We talked about this didn't we? You and I, I don't understand why you'd go ahead and insert "independent elections administrator." We were talking about this for days but then you try to sneak it in the backdoor. Be upfront and reasonable, let's talk this shit out or the page is going to continue to be crappy, marred by bad grammar, spelling mistakes, and non-neutral language.

Notability of Head of Skate
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Head of Skate, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Head of Skate is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Head of Skate, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Notability of Elizabeth Ball
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Elizabeth Ball, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Elizabeth Ball seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Elizabeth Ball, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. I just re-created this redirect to North American Water and Power Alliance and can't see the whole of your reason for deleting it previously, which to me makes no sense as this is one of the various acronyms for this idea/project/whatchamacallit; [[NAWPA[[ and NAWAPTA being two others....what was your reason?Skookum1 (talk) 14:17, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- thanks; I'm not sure if the current North American Water and Power Alliance article content is copyvio or not; I adjusted some wording and added refs as there was an "unreferenced" tag on it....most online stuff seems to have to do with one Lyndon H. LaRouche and I hadn't actually known he was a promoter of it; I associate it with Simon Reisman on this side of the border; there's a similar plan for diverting waters flowing into Hudson/James Bay into the Great Lakes....a climactic disaster waiting to happen in my estimation; I'm not sure what it's called....there should be a Category:Proposed diversion projects or Category:Proposed hydroelectric projects to put on it/them, but I'll take that up at WP:WikiProject Energy and wherever else...thanks for the explanation anyway; not a series of articles I'm interested in spendign time on, I'm more a history and general geography guy but it was linked off an article i was workign on, i.e. as NAWPA but as I found out when typing/linking NAWAPA article you'd previously deleted it etc; apparently it was just an article-title before; it never shoudl have been an acronym as there's at least three acronyms for this project that I know of....Skookum1 (talk) 18:25, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

- It was deleted for notability concerns, please take a look at Wikipedia:Notability_(organizations_and_companies)#Commercial_organizations . In addition, the article had no links to references, especially to ones that Wikipedia considers to be Reliable sources which help indicate notability/providing independent verification of facts. Furthermore, if you are associated with / paid to edit the article, Wikipedia generally frowns upon writing about yourself, if you're paid to edit the article (as part of your work duties) it's considered taboo. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Autobiography for the correct procedure to use for when you have an article you have a potential conflict of interest in. I hope that helps - -Tawker (talk) 14:43, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Master Nan
[edit]I assume you are the one who deleted the article on Master Nan. I can't understand why you did that as the sources were cited and corrections were made to avoid copyright infringement. Moreover, at the time the only tag on the article was for the article to be cleaned up. All I did was try to reiterate some facts on a famous buddhist scholar and all the work put into it has been deleted in a flash and without warning. I cannot claim to be tech savvy enough to know whether you are directly responsible, but if so, it makes unfamiliar and new contributors like myself have a strong sense of distaste that there is not even the chance for correction. What's the point of trying to establish an article if it keeps on getting deleted before it's done. If you could please give specific reasons why it was deleted as the article was rewritten to avoid copyright infringement. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Studydoc (talk • contribs) 14:18, Mar 14, 2007 (UTC).

Deletion of Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency Page
[edit]Hi,
I noticed you apparently deleted the "Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency" (MIGA). How come? Is there a copyright infringement (I'm guessing that's what "copyvio" means)?
I should point out I work for MIGA.

Jeff Macpherson
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Jeff Macpherson, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Jeff Macpherson.

Admin Coaching: Reconfirmation
[edit]I was looking through the coaches at Wikipedia:Admin_coaching/Status and saw that there are a lot under "reconfirmation".
Could you let me know if you are still interesting in being involved with Admin Coaching, or if you would prefer to have your name removed from the "reconfirmation" list. If you want to be involved, could you please move your entry from "Reconfirmation" to "Active" and indicate how many students you would be willing to have (obviously, if you are actively coaching at the moment, then please indicate this!)
If I do not hear from you within a week, I will assume that you would like to have your name removed from the list of coaches.

File:Scouts Canada.svg
[edit]There was no justification for you to have speedy deleted this file. It was a perfect svg representation (not "older" as you claim) of the Scouts Canada emblem. Nothing was significantly different from the smaller, lower quality logo being foisted now. Please restore it, and consider the Scouting WPMOS, which is aiming toward svgification of all Scout national emblems. Again, a discussion was warranted before you did this unilateral move. The emblem _was_ in use. Please restore.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 03:22, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Deletion of I3D.net
[edit]Hi Tawker, I saw you deleted the above page, I assume because of the nomination for Speedy Deletion. As I do agree that the content of the page could be interpreted as advertising (although there were for sure some 'negative' remarks on it and it only contained information what they are doing: nothing in that they are 'the best' or whatever) I still do think that they are notable and a page on that company should be possible on Wiki. Although I did say on the Talk page of that article why I think they are notable (and if they are not then I can find many other ISP's that are having a page on Wiki that can be deleted). Is it possible to give me feedback on the things I brought up on the Talk page (in regards to why I think that this company is notable). Even if you didn't read it before deletion: as Wiki admin/mod you have access to deleted content; so you can read it. Your feedback will be much appreciated.
A long story about my link between I3d and me, myself and I: This is however not important for I3D being notable or not, its just given as background info:
- As said: I'm not having any interest in that company and I'm also not involved in any gaming community: so even from that end I'm not interested in any advertising for this company. I was via my work involved at one moment in time: this company has chosed to use the (imho very low-end) PCT55xx series layer 2 switches and these switches had the 'feature' that after 49.7 days uptime (just do the maths and see when a 32 bit counter in miliseconds reaches the end and does a roll-over to 0 again) this switch lost his entire MAC address table and didn't relearn. This cause huge delays in traffic and because this was still not solved when the Battlefield 3 launch data was approaching customer got nervous. The vendor of these switches (=Marvel) and also Dell became a bit nervous (not for this customer, but in general: the only thing people knew so far was that the switch could loose its MAC address table but Dell nor vendor were able to reproduce the issue. As I was involved in several service requests from customers (and I3D was one of them) and also involved in the vendor escalation I had a great interest. During a weekend when I was once again analusing data I did see that an uptime of aprox 50 days could be an issue and then did the maths: how dows 49 - 50 days uptime look in binary form. Once I found out that there was a roll-over possible on a 32 bit milisecond timer the software guys in Tel Aviv were able to fix the issue in 1 day (and this case had been escalaated to them some 2 months earlier).
Looking forward to your reply, cheers, Tonkie (talk) 00:12, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- Looking at the article again, it does appear that it also failed WP:V verifiability - pretty much every reference was to company resources and pages. If you could provide some more reliable sources I'd be more than happy to restore page -- Tawker (talk) 00:18, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick reply. I admit that the references were nearly all the guys themselved. Often when I do initiate an article I do get started with a very select number of sources and once published I do try to find other -external/neutral- references to replace refs from the subject themselves. Hoewever: if the article is tagged for Speedy Deletion after 6 minutes after first placing I didn't want to invest any effort in it before it was either deleted or that the SD Request wasn't accepted. I'll have a look at it myself and if I do find enough external -reliable- resources I'll consider a re-writel. Thanks again for quick reply. Tonkie (talk) 01:00, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Scouts Canada.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Scouts Canada.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:24, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:West Vancouver NASA World Wind Community Landsat 7.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. As an admin, can you please, check the Baci Lingerie page also which is tagged with multiple CSD criteria as I do not believe a company which has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources can be eligible for a speedy deletion. Help with notability
[edit]Thank you for asking about the page which I think needs notability review. I really appreciate any and all help you can give. On your Google searches of the subject, please be sure to search his name and town of residence as given in the article using a plus sign in between the name and the town. He has very few online references, the name+place search will bring up the only other local reference I've found on the man. The North Coast Journal story as a reference only references that he was in the NYT, nothing new, and the other refs on the page are to RV blogs and product reviews. ZVL Leiden Deleted
[edit]Hello I understand that you removed the page off ZVL Leiden? May I ask what the reason was for this? ZVL is a sportsteam, competing in the dutch and European competitions, with several national players. They won 3 times in a row the national cup, 2 times the supercup and ended in the final four of the eurocup, to name a few. As I see other waterpolo clubs on wiki as wel (including dutch teams) I wondered what was the reason not to acceprt a page on ZVL. Also because they are also mentioned on other pages. Grasyerba (talk) 07:28, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
- It was requested for speedy deletion due to notability concerns. On the article itself there were no links to reliable third party sources indicating the relevance and notability of the club. If you've got reliable sources / more documentation for the article I'm more than happy to restore so it can be improved :) -- Tawker (talk) 17:04, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi, ZVL Waterpolo has a website and FB page (both in dutch) and is mentioned on the LEN page (European federation)as competitors in the LEN and Euro league. Also there are several directions on wiki itself to ZVL, for instance with the international players Biurakh Hakhverdian and Iefke van Belkum as wel as on the page with LEN competitors (that is why I originally initiated the page, so there would be more background on that. How can I make clearer that this page is not commercial but only to provide extra information on european and dutch waterpolo? Grasyerba (talk) 07:13, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

- As far as I or the speedy delete requester could tell, the references did not establish notability of the subject and many were at best, one line mentions of the subject, not detailed biographical information. It's not the number of references, it's the content of the references that is key. If you wish, I can restore the article and put it to Articles for Deletion, although I suspect the end result will be the same -- Tawker (talk) 22:48, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Hey, are you sure you meant speedy delete when you closed this? Seems a little out of procedure, especially with no CSD cited. ansh666 19:48, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- Given the lack of discussion and the fact that the article could fit A7 or G11 on CSD it didn't make sense to close as no consensus or relist, likely with no activity again.) With that being said, I have no problems restoring and putting up for relist if you so desire -- Tawker (talk) 19:52, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- Well, no, I was the nominator, so I don't have a problem with it; I'd just suggest writing out the actual CSD in the closing result next time so that others won't complain. (And, as far as I can tell, AfDs with no participation like that are closed as uncontested PROD-like deletes mostly.) Thanks, ansh666 19:56, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Don't worry about the criticism, it is not personal. Another admin was put through the ringer over premature posts recently. Had there been at least four supports and no objections and no article issues no one would have objected. I think I am the only oppose, so assuming there's still no issue with the article itself no one will complain if it is posted after a decent interval. μηδείς (talk) 00:10, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- Heh, it's Wikipedia's front page, the holy grail, people will put people thru the ringer over just about anything, I didn't take it personally. It's somewhat funny how rules based we've become over the "if it makes sense do it" that existed when I started here. Heck, you should have seen the opposition I got back in the day for starting the idea of having a bot handle vandalism reverts. ITN wise I've seen highly highly experienced admins get a ringer for posting major major news with a substantial length article because it "was too soon." - so it can happen to just about anyone. Now, I'm not foolish enough to undo my undo, could you imagine the s**tstorm that would stir up (even if ultimately the rationale is completely valid/sound.) Feel free to undo my undo if you think it's warranted.
It does raise an interesting point though, is it really more relevant after waiting 12 hours than after waiting 4 or 5? Just an interesting observation, as all actions are easily reversible, and if there turns out there's a late change in consensus, it's easy enough to revert -- Tawker (talk) 00:42, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Deleted Article About LitaRodi
[edit]Hey, I cited plenty of things in my article, if people would actually take the time to read every website I cited, people would get the bigger picture that I was telling the truth about the person I was writing about. I put lots of hours into writing that article, spent a whole night with no sleep. LitaRodi is a real Christian Rapper, and he is an evangelist in terms of doing positive rap in schools to tell people about his life story and what Jesus did for him. I would like your help, please, in restoring my page so the world can see who LitaRodi is, he isn't a nobody, he is noteworthy and notable enough as a person to have a Wikipedia written about him, if Trae Tha Truth can have a Wikipedia then LitaRodi should have one too! --Bmnolen (talk) 23:01, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- The article was deleted based on the discussion at AfD. I cannot speak to the notability of Trae Tha Truth as a comparable as it has not been nominated for deletion nor have I reviewed the page. With that being said, my closure reflects no judgement on the individual himself but rather addressees the question of Notability per Wikipedia's guidelines. With that being said, I have restored the article to your userspace at User:Bmnolen/Litarodi - please feel free to source additional material to indicate notability either as a musician or as an evangelist as per Wikipedia's policies. -- Tawker (talk) 00:40, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion
[edit]Hardly a consensus with only 4 editor involved in the discussion. I have seen 6 to 2 votes not considered consensus do to lack of participation. Rammin wanted to go on its merit of what was there. The keep argument was based on the inability of any one to tell if the Japanese source were significant.
User talk:Mystipedian closed this discussion when there was no consensus either and more so than Disk Wars. The original position of it being a section (subarticle) at Marvel Anime should be the result as it was the original position before the argument. Which should be the case or a relisting. I don't know why Mystipedian thinks when he has been registered on WP for only 3 days that qualified him to close AfDs. Spshu (talk) 23:17, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- Given the low participation in AfD these days, 4 editors in a discussion isn't too bad actually. I could have closed it no consensus or keep, both in effect have the same end result. I do note that the close was intended to be without prejudice, if upon further review there is information to suggest notability has not been established. As for new users closing AfD's, I would suggest it may be a little odd (most new users would have no idea about AfD let alone how to close one) and there may be something in play, but I would recommend we WP:AGF on the matter. -- Tawker (talk) 00:33, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

I restored the article to your userspace (basically your own set of pages) at User:IBCPirates/My Jolly Sailor Bold where you can work on it without risk of someone deleting it -- Tawker (talk) 19:18, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

- Using Wikipedia:File_Upload_Wizard - just be careful with the images to ensure they are either free to use (as in license wise free) or a fair use rationale has been produced for the image. The wizard should walk you thru the steps. -- Tawker (talk) 23:54, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Whats up! You know how I was working on My Jolly Sailor Bold? Well, I need help. Is it allowed to write lyrics in a page? Because the lyrics go like this.......
Upon one summer's morning I carefully did stray Down by the walls of wapping Where I met a sailor gay
Conversing with a young lass Who seemed to be in pain, Saying, William, when you go, I fear you'll never return again
My heart is pierced by Cupid I disdain all glittering gold, there is nothing can console me But my jolly sailor bold
His hair it hangs in ringlets His eyes as black as coal My happiness attends him Wherever he may go
From Tower Hill to Blackwall I'll wander, weep and moan All for my jolly sailor Until he sails home
My heart is pierced by Cupid I disdain all glittering gold There is nothing can console me But my jolly sailor bold
My father is a merchant The truth I now will tell And In great London City In opulence doth dwell
His fortune doth exceed 300,000 gold And he frowns upon his daughter Who loves a sailor bold
A fig for his riches His merchandise and gold True love has grafted my heart Give me my sailor bold
My heart is pierced by Cupid I disdain all glittering gold There is nothing can console me But my jolly sailor bold
Should he return in pov'rty For o'er the ocean far To my tender bosom I'll press my jolly tar
My sailor is as smiling As the pleasant month of May and often we have wandered Through Ratcliffe Highway
Many a pretty blooming Young girl did we behold Recling on the bosom Of her jolly sailor bold
My heart is pierced by Cupid I disdain all glittering gold There is nothing can console me But my jolly sailor bold
My name it is Anabel A merchant's daughter fair And I have left my parents And 3,000 pounds a year
Come all you pretty fair maids Whoever you may be Who love a jolly sailor That plows the raging sea
While up aloft in storm From me his absence mourn And firmly pray arrive the day He's never more to roam
My heart is pierced by Cupid I disdain all glittering gold There is nothing can console me But my jolly sailor bold

- Possibly not, the main concern is copyright - putting the full lyrics of the song on an article would likely be considered infringement -- Tawker (talk) 00:01, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- Good Point. But it's a really nice song. It's about a woman and a man who love each other but the woman's dad wont let them marry and they secretly love each other, and in the end, the man dies while out at sea. --IBCPirates (talk) 00:06, 13 April 2014 (UTC)IBCPirates

I want you to see if my page is good enough.
[edit]Hi, Tawker. Remember how you almost deleted my page, 'My Jolly Sailor Bold'? Well, I've been working on it and since you're really good at deleting things, I wanted to see if you think it is worth being submitted. IBCPirates (talk) 19:25, 13 April 2014 (UTC)IBCPirates
- It's a good start but I'd really look at reliable sources as well as your first article guide. Right now I'd suspect another user would tag it for deletion citing notability and the citation concerns. Take a look at that guide, it should help quite a bit -- Tawker (talk) 02:28, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
But how do I get good sources? They really aren't that many reliable sources unless you count Amazon, the official website and youtube. So how would I get reliable sources? IBCPirates (talk) 20:02, 14 April 2014 (UTC)IBCPirates
- There lies a problem. It may cause other editors to suggest the song by itself is not notable - as external sources is one of the criteria people use to evaluate articles. Try hunting around a bit more, sometimes some searches help! -- Tawker (talk) 22:09, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks.Do you have any ideas where I could start my hunting? -talk (IBCPirates)❤T☮C☺IBC☺ — Preceding undated comment added 21:54, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Josh Ford (soccer)
[edit]I was hoping I could get you to change your mind regarding the speedy deletion of this article. WP:NFOOTY requires that a player not only be signed to but play (i.e. in an actual game) for a fully pro club. Additionally, Ford had already signed for the Sounders two years ago when the last afd took place, so his signing there was taken into consideration. Thanks in advance. Sir Sputnik (talk) 03:26, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- I did a quick search and it looked like he played a few games in the MLS Reserve league which as I understand it, is a fully professional league being integrated with USL Pro which NFOOTY recognizes as a fully pro league. I'm just a little loathe to speedy an article where it appears a case could be made for inclusion within guidelines. It does look like some of those games occurred since the last AfD... -- Tawker (talk) 03:36, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
This account of mine is mainly retired and I rarely log in anymore. I saw your note on my talk page about the pending speedy deletion of IMP Group much too late to object. Why was it deleted? It is one of the more longstanding, prominent companies headquartered in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
I have only a vague recollection of the contents of the page, but I believe I wrote only a simple description of their business activities, as well as mention of the 2004 nationally publicized incident when their hotel property in Moscow was illegally seized. I don't think the article had a promotional tone – at least, it didn't the last time I saw it. I am not affiliated with the company in any way and had no reason to advertise it.
Genuinely confused. I don't believe the article met either criteria for speedy deletion that you specified. Sprocket (talk) 12:58, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- It was tagged by someone else for notability concerns, if you take a look at WP:CORP it has some more info on notability for corporate entities. I was just the one who "pushed the button" - if you'd like I can restore to draft namespace or your userspace to expand/review the article to see if it can meet notability criteria -- Tawker (talk) 15:46, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kelechi Iheanacho (footballer born 1996)
[edit]Please can you justify your close of this AFD - admins should not be IARing in AFD closes, and should not be allowing CRYSTALBALLery either. Furthermore I don't see how 5 editors (6 if you include the nominator) stating that GNG is not met, and 2 who say it is met (but unable to properly verify their claims), is a "no consensus" result... GiantSnowman 09:39, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking, I'd be happy to. First of all, I wouldn't consider it a IAR close. AfD is not a vote, it's a consensus reaching discussion. A no consensus (resulting in a keep of the article) is radically different than a keep close. The individuals suggesting deletion for the most part agreed the subject failed NFOOTY by not playing in a fully professional league. Those advocating keep are suggesting there was considerable media coverage (with some links in foreign languages that I was able to keyword scan/machine translate on) Given the apparently valid viewpoints of both sides I reached a no consensus determination. As a no consensus decision it bears no prejudice for future AfD discussions and appeared to be the only logical choice. My comment regarding CRYSTALBALL is somewhat coincidental, to me, the AfD stood on a no consensus regardless of what may happen in the future. The only options would be to relist or close as a no consensus. I hope this helps -- Tawker (talk) 19:14, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. Would you be willing to re-open and re-list? GiantSnowman 08:49, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- I would be, however I'd recommend giving it a couple weeks. Back to back AfD's tend to result in lower discussion / discussion apathy. -- Tawker (talk) 16:57, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll ping you in a few weeks then. GiantSnowman 17:32, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Though you deleted the article, by basically ignoring my comments that it had enough sources to comply with GNG... I'm asking you to userfy this article so that I can later work on it, if there's anything that it needs to improve... Thanks. Küñall (talk) 05:43, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- Userfied to User:Küñall/Cheer_C.P.S. - I definitely didn't ignore your comments when determining consensus. Remember, consensus is consensus, it's not necessarily votes nor is it any one argument trumping all. What I did is I looked at all of the discussion and the balance of comments and considered the arguments, the general consensus was that high school sports teams, regardless of location did not meet notability criteria. -- Tawker (talk) 05:51, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
"Live Life" Article
[edit]Hello, I was about to create a page for The Kinks song, Live Life, when it said that a page with the same name was deleted by you. I was wondering whether it would be alright for me to create said article. Also, the article was seleted under qualification A7, which "applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people, organizations, and individual animals themselves, not to articles about their books, albums, software, or other creative works." If we are talking about the same "Live Life", it does not list under A7. — Thanks, Beatleswhobeachboys (talk • contribs) 20:07, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Userfication request that does not seem automatic
[edit]You are listed at Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles and since I don't want to inundate the people whose names start with the letter a, I have jumped to the Ts (given my username). I have made a request at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive262#Userfication of deleted and salted content. The article has been deleted through AFD twice and the first time was upheld at DRV. The first version was 49KB readable prose, while the second version was 33KB readable prose. Although many have argued the second was a recreation of the first, two separate admins reversed their own WP:G4 deletions upon further review. It seems that a third admin speedily declined another G4 although I am unable to see the history right now and did not notice this during the second AFD. I have a long history at successful recreations (12 articles now at WP:GA are formerly deleted articles that I have recreated, including "Cat Daddy" which was deleted 4 previous times). The second AFD seems to be an indictment against any future recreation of the article, which is befuddling to me. I would like to learn something from this seemingly odd result. I have requested a userfication that includes history and talk page so that I can investigate policy/guidelines. So far the best userfication offer was by Floquenbeam to restore it for a fixed 2 week expiry. I have stated that 2 months would be more appropriate than 2 weeks because no policy discussion can be guaranteed to conclude within 2 weeks and I have several that I would like to pursue. Floquenbeam, has stated his hesitance is based on assumptions of bad faith regarding my intentions and that I have made a phantom "refusal to agree not to bug people about tagging or edits they made to the article prior to deletion" which I never made (I was actually concerned about the 2 week expiry and forgot to assent to the request). I am unable to discuss things with Floquenbeam who has not edited in 3 days (since 20:43, 28 May 2014). As a frequent recreator of content, I would like a chance to become a better editor by examining the various policies related to this outcome with the content available for illustration and instruction.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 14:22, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
- Just so you know, Tony has forum-shopped this request at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2014_May_6 and then Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Userfication_of_deleted_and_salted_content where he received answers he disliked. He has since requested on 9 different admin talk pages, including: User_talk:TParis, User_talk:Thingg, User_talk:Titoxd, User_talk:Thespian, User talk:Tawker, User talk:The Placebo Effect, User talk:Thehelpfulone, User_talk:Toon05, & finally User_talk:ThaddeusB who restored the article on request to User:TonyTheTiger/Jabari Parker's high school career. I apologize for spamming this message, but since Tony has failed to let you know that he has forum-shopped to successfully get the outcome he wanted, I felt you all deserved to know that you do not need to respond to his request. Mary Elise Hayden page
[edit]Hi, Tawker, I would appreciate your review of these notes in response to Wiki committee's concerns re: Mary Elise Hayden's page (created in 2007). Thank you, Page Originator
RE: NACTOR
Although American, Mary Elise Hayden played Kate's sister Pippa Middleton in WILLIAM AND KATE, which aired on Lifetime. Whether or not it is "an underwhelming TV movie," as a reviewer suggested, it remains that Hayden played a noteworthy figure. When the movie aired, Hayden's Wiki page received over 100,000 hits April-June 2011 as people were interested in finding out about the actress who played Pippa. (Please see traffic stats from that period. The page continued to receive hits from interested searchers until its removal.)
Hayden has had 2 film leads in two award-winning features. Moreover, her specific lead performance in WE ARE THE MODS was lauded in Hollywood's premier entertainment magazine VARIETY by film critic Peter Debruge as well as in FILMMAKER MAGAZINE, THE EDGE/Boston, THE PHILLY CITY PAPER, among others.
Hayden has had 2 recurring roles in prominent shows on ABC (10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU and RAVENSWOOD).
Hayden guest-starred on A&E's LONGMIRE last night, June 9, 2014.
Hayden has appeared in over 40 music videos, many of these leads for major musicians, has had lead and supporting roles in many shorts, both experimental and traditional, along with other TV shows/films and live performances.
Of the 6 million people listed on IMDB, Mary Elise Hayden is ranked among the top .0025 (1/4%).
RE: Documentation As I can no longer see the listing, it is difficult to determine which citations are problematic. Insufficient ones could be updated.
RE: PR In essence, biographical articles on any online site could be considered PR by their very nature as those searching learn about individuals and their achievements. This listing is no different re: potential PR than any other. If something is offensive, however, I would be happy to remove it.
RE: Page Creation Page originators of living actor pages not created by Wiki editors are often written by management or public relations sources (possibly even by the actor himself or herself when that was permitted) as they are most familiar with the actor's history. Wikipedia's call for content creation at its inception inspired the original page, not PR. It was not created until there was something noteworthy to include in the article. Since that time, as the talent continued to garner critical and public recognition, facts about the subject were added as indicated above. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fltola (talk • contribs) 21:07, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

@NawlinWiki, Nick-D, and Lankiveil: as you participated in the deletion discussion, you may be interested as well.
@Mdann52, Itsalleasy, and Ireneshih: as you participated in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Saleem (Company), which resulted in the current draft being moved out of the main encyclopedia, you may be interested as well.

- At least for now, there is probably no need to create a page about it. You know that there are only 2,000 results. Facebook, twitter have dominated most of it. Notability has not been established. OccultZone (Talk • Contributions • Log) 07:08, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
Institute of Refrigeration page
[edit]I note that you deleted the Institute of Refrigeration page on 19 April - I found this out on 25 April when looking for some information and immediately contacted "Launchballer" who had flagged the article for deletion. Launchballer has confirmed to me that this is because he thought that the page was a repeat of the page for the International Institute of Refrigeration, which is not the case. He also suggested that the page was an advertisement, in contravention of the rules for content (G11) with the comment "what makes it notable?"
The Institute of Refrigeration is not the same as the International Institute (which is an intergovernmental body headquartered in Paris). It is a learned society and is the oldest refrigeration institute in the world, founded in 1899. It is internationally recognised as a thought-leader in refrigeration technology and has members all over the world. It is a registered charity operating on a not-for-profit basis. If this constitutes grounds for deletion then I suggest that other pagers (for example the Wikimedia Foundation or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers) should also be deleted.
Please reinstate the page - it does not contravene any of Wikipedia's guidelines. It is notable and it is not an advertisement.
Dr Fridge (talk) 22:42, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- I most certainly did not say that! I asked if it was the same thing, because I wasn't sure. I had already AfDd it at that point because I couldn't see why it was notable. However, if only one person comments on a AfD, then it should really be closed as no consensus. Thus, could you restore it so I can get a wider hearing on it?--Launchballer 23:41, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
New version of deleted Peter Deunov page
[edit]Hi, I have put up a new version of Peter Deunov, which was deleted during April. As I said in my comment, there are not many reliable sources in English, but the initial motivation for the delete seems to me unjustified, because (a) Peter Deunov didn't create a "sect of Steinerism" and (b) he really was a notable Bulgarian figure, and so definitely deserves a Wikipedia page. However, I agree the previous version of the article was very poor, and this new version tries to be proportional to the references. I would be happy to discuss the article if you wish, but I don't think it warrants a delete anymore. Quartz (talk) 14:14, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection
[edit]
Hello, Tawker. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
[edit]Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
[edit]Hi Tawker.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada
[edit]Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Deleted page
[edit]Hey, one of the pages I created named 'Syed Shah Abdul Haq Gilani' was recently deleted after nomination for speedy deletion. This person who nominated it for speedy deletion had no sort of know-how on the subject and accepted the fact too. It is a request if the page is restored or the content's emailed to me for improvement so I could make a new page regarding the same person.

Non-Notable topic.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Mccapra (talk) 05:09, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
[edit]ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
