Seeking input about the inclusion of a high school in a political biography article
An editor and I are having a disagreement on the article Ted Deutch about whether the article subject's high school should be included. I've added a half-sentence reference to the "Early life and education" section, as well as a category identifying him as Liberty High School alumni, but the editor has repeatedly reverted it ( ). In the talk page, he says that it's "silly trivia of no importance" and "not important enough to include in his article", with which I obviously disagree. I'd like to gather more input to determine a WP:CONSENSUS as to whether this information should be included, so any feedback at Talk:Ted Deutch#Inclusion of high school would be appreciated. Please keep the conversation there, not here on this talk page, so it's all in one place. Somebody made an edit to his full name as well as is his name in the righthand box to say his name is "William 'GinrichFace' Cassidy" and "Bill 'GinrichFace' Cassidy" respectively. It might be good to keep an eye on his page and Mary Landrieu's page with the runoff election for the U.S. Senate race just a few days away.

Stub type

Greetings! A stub template or category which you created has been nominated for renaming or deletion at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type most likely doesn't meet Wikipedia requirements for a stub type, through failure to meet standards relating to the name, scope, current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals! This message is boilerplate, left here as a courtesy, and should not be considered personal in nature.

Photographs of Canadian politicians

I am looking for data regarding how many articles about Canadian politicians are missing profile photos. It is my understanding that profile photos are not available because the Queen's Printer in Canada and the respective provincial jurisdictions holds copyright on these photographs that are taken after an election. As a project of Wiki Canada we are hoping to persuade the Canadian government to change this policy. Any help in quantifying the need or assisting with this effort would be appreciated. Appropriateness of "Political Positions"

Perhaps someone here can help me. Not surprisingly, some work is being done on Gary E. Johnson. In the opinion of some, the article has NPOV problems. There seems to be an on-going good-faith effort to correct these. My question relates to the appropriateness of the "political positions" section in the article Gary E. Johnson#Political positions. It seems to me inappropriate to list a few positions of a presidential candidate, and that trying to list them all is impossible, and that the section shouldn't be here. Is there some guidance on this somewhere? TheNgeveld 20:55, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The Starhawk article was moved/renamed today to Starhawk (author) without discussion by a proponent of the new video game of the same name. Now Starhawk (and all 100 Wikilinks to her name) redirects to a disambiguation page. Please note my Requested Move discussion about moving it back to the original article title. Request for NPOV review

 • Recently an editor has raised concerns regarding NPOV with some articles I had worked on prior to an extended wikibreak.
 • I have committed to no longer edit or watch these pages.
 • However, I would appreciate it if others could look them over with NPOV in mind, and discuss on their talk pages and make appropriate changes if need be.

Here are the articles:

 1. Joel Anderson
 2. Jose Peralta
 3. Hiram Monserrate

I will not object to any changes proposed, discussed, or implemented.

Help needed at Talk:Prescott Bush

There's currently a lengthy discussion at Talk:Prescott Bush regarding our coverage of Bush's involvement with UBC, a bank that was seized under the Trading with the Enemy Act. The dispute is mainly about whether secondary sources or primary sources should be emphasized, and whether some of the sources are tainted by the involvement of a conspiracy theorist who may have had ulterior motives. Input would be greatly appreciated. Huon (talk) 18:11, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help requested by inexperienced biographer

I'm looking for some help from an expert WP:BIO member (or multiple). I've made some great strides on Kirsten Gillibrand, but need some help finishing it up. For one, there doesn't seem to be a set format for how US Senator articles should look (and those that are at FA level now are not helpful since they are Senate leaders, former presidential candidates, and so on, therefore exceptions to the way the articles should be written for the rest of the group). Also, finding sources that sum up a senator's and representative's service during each term would be helpful (i.e. the milestones). Writing about the campaigns is easy; covering the terms isn't so much. Lastly, covering 'political views' sections can be cumbersome because the list could become endless. An outside viewpoint on what could be added or trimmed would be great. Your help would be much appreciated. upstateNYer 01:55, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs - the final surge

Since early in 2010, many editors have assisted in the referencing or removal of over 90% of the Unreferenced Biographies of Living People, bringing the total down from over 50,000 to the current 4,862 (as of 16:28, 1 June 2011 (UTC)). Thank you for all of the work you've done to date, but we are now asking for your help in finishing this task. There are two main projects which are devoted to removing UBLPs from en.Wikipedia:

All you have to do is pick your articles and then add suitable references from reliable sources and remove the BLP unsourced template. There is no need to log your changes, register or remove the articles from the list. If you need any help, or have any comments, please ask at WP:URBLPR or WT:URBLP.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide. The-Pope (talk) 16:28, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jim DeMint

For a U.S. Senator, Jim DeMint has a very poor article. It reqires a lot of expansion, and the section about his career as a U.S. Rep, for which he served for SIX years prior to becoming Senotr (1999-2005) is empty. For a potential Presidential candidate in 2012, this is very bad. SOXROX (talk) 22:47, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ferdinand Marcos and TfD:Template:The Marcoses

Is there anyone here with an interest in the Philippines? If so, please come and have a look at TfD:Template:The Marcoses. There is a discussion there which is relevant to this project. In the course of considering a proposal to delete Template:The Marcoses I discovered that links to articles about many opponents of - and some collaborators with - Ferdinand Marcos are not linked to the text in his article, merely to this badly named and concealed navbox, which is now proposed for deletion. These include Insurgency in the Philippines, New People's Army, Moro National Liberation Front, Assassination of Ninoy Aquino, NAMFREL and People Power Revolution. Also, Constitution of the Philippines is a link hidden underneath alternative text, and Rolex 12 only appears without elaboration under "See also". Some of these are in danger of being orphaned. I sincerely hope that someone here will take an interest in rectifying the situation. Thanks. Rubywine . talk 22:26, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

U.S. Election editnotice

I've created as an editnotice template for use on articles affected by the U.S. general election. Since the election is in early November and many of those elected don't take office until mid-to-late January, we tend to have a lot of jump-the-gun updating. This editnotice is intended to prevent some of that editing by reminding editors that there is a difference between editing and inauguration. I'm not mass-implementing it generally, but if you see that an article is drawing a lot of good faith errors, this is available. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 20:56, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help reviewing draft article for Alex Castellanos

Hi, I'm looking for anyone who might be willing to review a new draft I have prepared for Alex Castellanos's article. While he is not a politician, he is a high-profile political consultant. Currently, his article could use some improvement, so I've written a new draft to propose as a replacement. As I've written this draft on behalf of Purple Strategies—Castellanos' communications firm—I have a conflict of interest and am looking for other editors to review this draft for me, rather than making edits to the live article myself. The new draft and issues with the current article are explained in more detail on the article's talk page and my proposed draft is in my user space here: User:16912_Rhiannon/Alex_Castellanos

It would be great to have editors from this WikiProject take a look. Feel free to make any small changes in the user space draft and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 13:26, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help with stalled discussion on Jim DeMint's article

Hello again. As I explained above on June 14th, I'm an employee of The Heritage Foundation and I'm now looking for editors to review another section I've written for the Jim DeMint article. DeMint is a former U.S. congressman, and the current president of The Heritage Foundation, which is why I am asking for help here.

This time I have written a revision for the Reception, policies, and politics section which needs updating to meet Wikipedia standards. If you look at the section now you'll see that there are two different tags pointing out problems.

Since I originally posted this request on the article's talk page a couple of editors have been involved in the discussion, however the focus shifted towards COI editing and the heading for the section. If there are any editors here who are willing to review the content of the revision and let me know if they think it is an appropriate replacement I would be very thankful.

The full discussion and my draft can be seen on the talk page. Please take a look at that if you want to help. Thanks! Thurmant (talk) 17:58, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

POV issues on David Stupich

I just noted this addition and formatted the cite, which is a well-known book on BC's history of political scandal by a certain partisan MSM newspaper editor. There's a lot of tub-thumping about certain scandals, even after the protagonists are dead, and a lot of petty speculations kicking about; the cite is to a googlebooks preview which doesn't show that page, whether it says what this says I can't be sure of, but it does impugn guilt against two other people and presumes/speculates in hyperbolic language - "public outrage" is Rayner's own hype, IMO. Because of the Adrian Dix matter I keep my hands off patrolling POV additions to British Columbia politician pages, but figured I'd better report this for review by more experienced BLP editors; Stupich isn't BLP, as he's dead, but the other people are alive. And as often in BC, accusation and imputation are treated as proof/evidence - Rayner himself in his years as editor of The Province was not innocent of this himself. POV sources produce POV content IMO....Skookum1 (talk) 04:31, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The drafts and more information about the requested changes are on the Talk page here. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:05, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just to note: this has been done. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:01, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Expert attention

This is a notice about Category:Biography/Politics and government articles needing expert attention, which might be of interest to your WikiProject. It will take a while before the category is populated. Iceblock (talk) 21:08, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ilse Koch - importance and expert attention

This is a request to upgrade the importance of the Ilse Koch page and suggest locating an expert. Ms. Koch was a major figure in post-WWII war crimes prosecutions, and plays a large role in several histories about the period, a number of books, and even spawned a B-movie. She also appears to be, from what we have here and what's on google, utterly fascinating, way beyond the material on her page.

I'd love to try to do this myself, but I think WWII history is such a complex and contentious subject that it should be handled by people with experience and expertise.

Help on Reince Priebus

Hi all, I'm looking for some assistance with the article for Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus. Since his article falls under this WikiProject, I hope that members here might be able to help.

In brief, the article is in need of a bit of updating to add in details about his career, particularly his political career prior to becoming chair of the RNC, and to cover details of his tenure as chair. One key example: there's currently no mention of his previous role as chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party in the article.

On the article's Talk page, I've proposed a few updates and corrections. While some have been made in the article, editors who assisted have not returned to look at the suggestions for the Career section. In the interests of being fully transparent, I'm working as a consultant to the RNC and due to that financial conflict of interest I won't make any direct edits to the article. This is why I'm instead proposing updates for editors to review and make the changes as appropriate. Would anyone from this WikiProject be interested in helping? Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:46, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I don't currently have the time to help with this, but would suggest cross-posting this to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Wisconsin. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 03:07, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Philosopher, I'll try there. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:07, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging to note that although the details about Priebus's previous political roles have now been added, there are some remaining edits I'm asking about for the Career section of the article. I have also just added some new suggestions for the RNC chairman section. If you're able to take a look, let me know if you have any questions. Thanks in advance. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:20, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

adding every possible poll to a political BLP?

As we enter 2016 <g> it appears some editors are adding every poll they can find to every BLP of a person mentioned in any poll, even where no one is a declared candidate for an office. At Marco Rubio I demurred on adding multiple polls this early into the 2016 campaign season, and actually asked at WP:BLP/N where a number of others agreed that Wikipedia is not a newspaper listing every poll as we go on.

Unfortunately, one editor said that the BLP/N noticeboard is of no value as to what can go into a BLP :), so I thought asking here might get more eyes on the issue as being focused on political biographies. Edits from parliament

The Telegraph found that several articles here about politicians running for election were edited by folks within the offices of parliament. Full details at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/general-election-2015/11574217/Expenses-and-sex-scandal-deleted-from-MPs-Wikipedia-pages-by-computers-inside-Parliament.html 1bandsaw (talk) 19:02, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help reviewing FAC

I ask you all for help with Juan Manuel de Rosas. The article is in need of reviews for its FAC. The page is here. The problem is that Rosas as well as Argentine history (with the exception of the Falklands War) as gathered little interest in here so far. If you can, take your time to review the article, please. --Lecen (talk) 19:57, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Did some expansion of this article -- could someone consider checking it to see if it's at B-class or C-class level? Thanks much. 74.127.175.164 (talk) 02:38, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A new copy-paste detection bot is now in general use on English Wikipedia. Come check it out at the EranBot reporting page. This bot utilizes the Turnitin software (ithenticate), unlike User:CorenSearchBot that relies on a web search API from Yahoo. It checks individual edits rather than just new articles. Please take 15 seconds to visit the EranBot reporting page and check a few of the flagged concerns. Comments welcome regarding potential improvements. These possible copyright violations can be searched by WikiProject categories. Use "control-f" to jump to your area of interest (if such a copyvio is present).--Lucas559 (talk) 20:09, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Osborne

I'm not sure Chris Osborne passes Wikipedia:Notability (people). Moreover I suspect COI issues since the article was enterely written by Jarama52 and the same user claimed File:Chris Osborne Federal Election Poster 1977.jpg as "own work". I'm not used to blp patrol on en.wiki, so what do you think about it? -- Basilicofresco (msg) 05:49, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

RfC

An RfC, Should this biography include commentary or reactions from politicians?, has been posted at the talk page for Kim Davis (county clerk). Interested editors are invited to comment. - MrX 17:05, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to add draft, file and redirect classes for WP Biography

I started a proposal to add draft, file and redirect classes for all WP Biography here. This would first help split out the 280 or so articles at Category:NA-Class biography (politics and government) articles so we can identify the draft articles more easily. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 00:36, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Infoboxes vs succession boxes

See article Barbara Snelling. The info box officeholder nearly duplicates the info in the succession boxes. The bio is short and the article looks a bit silly as a result. IMO, the duplicate material in the info box should be rm. Student7 (talk) 15:25, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking input about the inclusion of a high school in a political biography article

An editor and I are having a disagreement on the article Ted Deutch about whether the article subject's high school should be included. I've added a half-sentence reference to the "Early life and education" section, as well as a category identifying him as Liberty High School alumni, but the editor has repeatedly reverted it ([3] [4] [5] [6]). Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 15:34, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
