== Demand Controlled Ventilation ==

It appears that the two articles were not read prior to undoing my work. Please read them. I hope that you will agree that the old "Demand-controlled ventilation" article was was too commercial and subjective. I also think you will find it overly complicated and filled with additional not relavant content. The new article that I wrote was a simple explanation of a basic control sequence used in HVAC.

It appears you are a more advanced user of Wikipedia. I suspect it will be very easy for you to revert the two pages back to the way I left them. Which I maintain was not vandalism but a significant improvement and useful de-cluttering.

IP vandal

Hi mate, [User:24.247.126.9] is back vandalising articles (including BLPs) with unsourced nonsense. You blocked him less than a month ago. Something more permanent? Stlwart111 04:25, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, one-week block. Materialscientist (talk) 04:55, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This IP, on Steam (software), keeps re-adding this information to the page in violation of the Three-Revert Rule and in violation of a long-standing Talk page discussion:

  • It has developed a negative reputation for its customer service, and has earned an 'F' grade from the Better Business Bureau. In June of 2013, the Better Business Bureau attempted to contact Steam about a pattern of customer complaints, and has since received no response.

I recommend a block. ElectricBurst(Electron firings)(Zaps) 22:26, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable Source for Snowy Owl Posting

Hi in regards to the 45 Snowy Owls spotted December 2015, the source would be David Hemmings and our scouts from Natures Photo Adventures. I wasn't sure if it was okay to list his or our company name on the site. We have scouts annually because we hold Snowy Owl Photo Workshops. I am new to posting on Wikipedia, your help is appreciated. You can view the photos on www.naturesphotoadventures.com Thanks Jennifer — Preceding unsigned comment added by JenniferHemmings123 (talkcontribs) 02:03, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Remove misunderstanding?

Materialscientist,

Would you consider removing a misunderstanding (warning) from my Talk Page? It is: Campus rape[edit] I have reverted your addition there because it is based on a page from crisisconnectioninc.org, which is too unreliable and too local for representing those data as general statistics on wikipedia. Please argue your case on the article talk page instead of reinstating the addition. Materialscientist (talk) 07:04, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Campus rape. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. While edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount and can lead to a block, breaking the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. Materialscientist (talk) 07:16, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Materialscientist, I definitely don't want to appear as if I'm taking part in an Edit War! What happened was I cut and pasted my Edit multiple times simply because I was trying to figure the best place to place the Edit within the article. Also my iPad mini was giving me fits.

Aside from the perceived edit warring, the content you've been trying to add looks likely a list of facts that come from disparate sources and have been accumulated by a non-notable website. Since the statistics they provide are from various places, and are not cited, it would be better to find a more authoritative source. Editing, sure, but improper tagging, no thanks

Sorry, for my lack of Wiki savvy if this is posted in the wrong place, but I spend little time on Wiki. I made an edit to Seonam Girls' High School Investigators (a brand new, interesting show) roughly a week ago on 2/14 to more accurately describe 3 characters (sort of as teasers to watch the show). My edits were entirely accurate based on the episodes. Yet someone redacted this with BLP or Vandalism. Huh? Someone following the show would understand the additions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.145.140.132 (talk) 14:11, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Beau Falloon etc

His Materialscientist,
In case you were wondering, the 'coco' edit you reverted at Beau Falloon was in in relation to very recent news reports like "Beau Falloon, Jamie Dowling stood down by Gold Coast Titans for drug offences after Karmichael Hunt revelations". (Hunt was "... served with a notice to appear in court over the alleged supplying of cocaine.") Karmichael Hunt hasn't been edited about it yet, but Beau Falloon has had relevant text added to his page, with a reliable source. Just FYI, regards, 220 of Borg 11:34, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Epiphone edit

Just curious about the Epiphone edit. I saw that the last name was edited by anonymous user from Stathopoulos to Stathopoulo. That would seem in line with the spelling at the referenced site http://www.epiphone.com/History.aspx.

So why edit it back to Stathopoulos? Do you know for sure that's the correct spelling?

Hey! I'm new to Wikipedia, and I'm a little unsure how to upload pictures for celebrity's pages. I was wondering if you can add a picture for Jyothika's Wikipedia page (maybe from 2012 or 2013), and change Suriya's Wikipedia's picture (maybe to something more recent (try photoshoot 2014)). Hello Materialscientist.

My name is Christine Graves Piqueras and I am the wife of Jorge Piqueras. For a long time now, I have had the intention of Improving my husband's Wikipedia page, as it is very incomplete and we have no idea who created it. It really says nothing - or very little - about him. So together with Jorge Piqueras and Jorge Villacorta - a very well known and well respected art critic and curator - we researched and composed the page I posted yesterday in English. My intention was to add photos today, and then to translate and post the same information on the Spanish and French pages. This is my first time editing on Wikipedia so I would appreciate your help in ensuring I have done things properly so that this expanded, much improved version appears on the page. Thanks very much. 08:32, 22 February 2015 (UTC)C.E. Graves (talk)Christine

Craters

Since you were sensitive to changes I was making to various crater pages about a month ago, I thought I'd let you know that (along with many other corrections that I'm scanning for) I'm changing |edition=6th revision to |edition=6th revised, so that "6th revised ed." is rendered, as opposed to "6th revision ed.". Alongside these edits may/will be others that might not change the rendered page. All crater pages will be cycled through, eventually. If you have an alternative solution, or if you object, please let me know. Thanks.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkcontribsdgaf)  21:47, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Citation/Reference Query of Elizabeth "Lzzy" Hale's Birth Date and Age.

I understand that and I checked a few websites (doing a Google search claims that she was born October 10, 1984, and on a website called famousbirthdays.com - which I'm sure is reference you and many others will deem completely inadequate because of its perceived reputation), however you guys can't find a viable reference for her birth date and age? I see this impartiality across Wikipedia where birth dates aren't referenced. It bothers me. Believe me, it does. I want to help out and put in a great deal of effort. And obviously, her being 30 years of age wouldn't make much sense if she formed the band in 1998 - that would make her either 13 or 14 years old, and that seems more improbable than probable. --Bl1tzkrieg1940 (talk) 22:50, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You need to put back the edit I did on Nitrous Oxide and Air under the administration section, it is totally valid. Presentation proposal for Wikimania 2015

How to pick up more women...
Hi Materialscientist! Victuallers and I have developed a proposal for a talk to be presented at Wikimania 2015. It's titled, How to pick up more women... -- as in more women editors and more women's biographies. Examples include the Edit-a-thon blitz during WikiWomen's History Month and the "new articles" work underway by WikiProject Women Writers. The Wikimania talk proposal review process has begun and there's no guarantee that our proposal will be accepted. That's where you come in. Please review it and, if you wish, give us feedback on the submission's talkpage or my talkpage (vs. your talkpage). Ultimately, we hope you add your name to the signup at the bottom of the proposal which signifies you'd be interested in the talk if you were attending it (it does not commit you to attending Wikimania). Hi Dear Materialscientist

Yeterday I corect some your article about Glaciers of Georgia, I didn't know about this "talk page" otherwise I send you a message here

I Apologize for rough intervening.

I am Levan Tielidze, Glaciologist, from Georgia (Caucasus Region). I want to tell you that, this information which you have, about "Glaciers of Georgia", is very old. We have new research and new statistic about "Glaciers of Georgia". Also few month ago published my new monograph "Glaciers of Georgia" I am sending you some new information and if you not will be against we can change this old information.

For more information about our research you can see this official links:

https://www.academia.edu/9286327/Glaciers_of_Georgia-_The_New_Monograph

And its new text:

The spatial distribution of contemporary glaciers in the territory of Georgia is stipulated by the peculiarities of atmospheric processes, morphological-morphometric conditions of the relief and their interaction. Main centers of glaciation are related to the elevated Greater Caucasus watershed range and Kazbegi massif. Individual centers can be found in the Greater Caucasus branch ranges: Bzipi, Kodori, Samegrelo, Svaneti, Lechkhumi, Pirikita, etc. According to the data of 2015 there are 637 glaciers in Georgia with a total area of 355.80 sq. km. Contemporary glaciers are mainly concentrated in the Enguri, Rioni, Kodori and Tergi River basins, where there are the peaks of 4500 m and higher. 89.32% of the amount and 97.15% of the area of glaciers of Georgia are located in these basins. Contemporary glaciers are unevenly distributed between the different river basins. Here the leading place belongs to the Enguri River basin; 42.22% of the total number of the glaciers of Georgia is the share of it, as well as 62.78% of the total area of the glaciers of Georgia is a share of the Enguri River basin. Except the Enguri River basin the shares of the other river basins in the total number of the glaciers of Georgia are distributed as follows: the Kodori River basin – 22.76 %; the Rioni River basin – 15.22 %; the Tergi River basin - 9.10 %; the Pirikita Alazani River basin – 3.19 %; the Bzipi River basin – 2.82 %; the Liakhvi River basin – 1.56 % and the Khobistskali River basin – 1.41 %. As for the basins of the rivers of Arghuni, Asa, Aragvi and Kelasuri, their joint share is 1.72% of the total number of the glaciers of Georgia. Except the Enguri River basin the shares of the other river basins in the total area of the glaciers of Georgia are distributed as follows: the Rioni River basin – 13.11 %; the Kodori River basin – 11.25 %; the Tergi River basin – 9.99 %; the Bzipi River basin – 1.12 %; the Pirikita Alazani River basin – 0.68 %. As for the basins of the rivers of Liakhvi, Asa, Khobistskali, Arghuni, Aragvi and Kelasuri, their joint share is 1.07 % of the total area of the glaciers of Georgia. Great Georgian scientist Vakhushti Bagrationi gives the first scientific information on the glaciers of Georgia in the beginning of the 18th century. [“There are big mountains, which have the Caucasus to the North from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea, the height of which is of one day walking and the highest of it is permanently frosty, the length of the ice is of k-l arm, and in summer it breaks and, if a man stays there, he cannot endure the cold even for a little time; and under it the rivers flow, and the ice is green and red, as a rock due to its age”]. After almost hundred years the foreign scientists began to describe the glaciers of Georgia. Information about the glaciers of Georgia can be found in the works of G. Abikh (1865), G. Radde (1873), N. Dinik (1884), I. Rashevskii (1904), etc. This information is related to the individual glaciers and mostly is of descriptive nature. However, their findings greatly assist us in determining the dynamics of the individual glaciers. In the years of 1880-1910 the topographical surveying of the Greater Caucasus was carried out. On the basis of the created maps K. I. Podozerskiy (1911) compiled the first detailed catalogue of the glaciers, which still has not lost its importance, but it must be mentioned, that the errors were made during its compilation. A. L. Reinhardt (1916, 1917) noted these errors further, who compiled the new catalogue for many glacial basins of the investigated region and defined the location of the snow line. The research conducted by A. Reinhardt is of high quality and more reliable by its scientific value in comparison with its previous researchers. Interesting researches were conducted by F. Rutkovskaia (1936) in connection with the 2nd International Polar Year. In 1932-1933 the glaciations of the Enguri River was studied and the dynamics (in the one-year period) of the individual glaciers were identified. In 1959 P. A. Ivankov gave us the total number and area of glaciers of the study area based on the new topographic maps and the aeroimages of 1946. In the same year P. Kovalev (1961) described in details the glaciers and carried out their labeling. Much work has been conducted by D. Tsereteli for the study of the glaciers of Georgia, who in 1937 together with Al. Aslanikashvili surveyed several glaciers and in 1963 gave us the dynamics of the glaciers during the period of 1937-1960. Particularly should be mentioned the great and versatile work, which was done by the Glaciological Laboratory of Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography, the multiannual work of which is summarized in the 1975 year’s edition of the Catalogue of Glaciers, as well as by the Hydrographical Division of the Hydro-Meteorological Department, which published the work about the Glaciers of the Greater Caucasus (Editors: V. Tsomaia and E. Drobishev, 1970). It should be also noted the many years research of various glaciers in the major river basins by R. Gobejishvili. It can be considered his honor that after the 1990s the glaciological studies have not been stopped in Georgia. L. Maruashvili, D. Ukleba. T. Kikalishvili, G. Kurdghelaidze, D. Tabidze, R. Khazaradze, O. Nikolaishvili, V. Tsomaia, O. Drobishevi, R. Shengelia, R. Gobejishvili, K. Mgeladze, T. Lashkhi, Sh. Inashvili, N. Golodovskaia, L. Serebryannii, A. Orlov, O. Nadirashvili, N. Zakarashvili, A. Rekhviashvili, O. Samadbegishvili and others studied the glaciers of Georgia according to the river basins. Glacial-geomorphological works were being carried out from 1968 (R. Gobejishvili). The largest glaciers of the different river basins were surveyed by the photo-theodolite method, such as: Zopkhito-Laboda, Kirtisho, Brili, Chasakhtomi, Edena, Khvargula, Boko, Buba, Tbilisa, Adishi, Chalaati, Dolra, Kvishi, Ladevali, Shkhara, Namkvani, Koruldashi, Marukhi, Klichi and the cirque type glaciers of the Klichi basin. Today in Georgia the Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography is the only facility, which scientifically researchs the Caucasus glaciers. Glaciology group, led by Levan Tielidze every year conducts Glaciological expeditions to the Caucasus glaciers in different river basins of.

I removed your section because there are no "alternate lyrics" or "slightly different structure" to the song - there are simply a few mixing differences/missing overdubs, therefore your statement is incorrect. "Brandy & Coke" is just a working title. Same with "Driving Through Kashmir," which is barely different to my ears. 00:56, 27 February 2015 (UTC)LedZepfilm

Hi Material, I'm randomly picking you out of my usual admin pool. Could you please take a look at this user's contribs: [8]. What's odd to me is that we're seeing rapid editing, often two in the same minute and occasionally three, many of which are at a wide range of articles. The last time I saw edits come by this quickly, it was Thewikiguru1, who had made hundreds of edits in their first few days and were generally just tearing through the project and leaving problems in their wake. (I'm not proposing that it's the same user, BTW, only pointing out that it's unusual editing behavior, and the last guy who did this seemed to be problematic) Thoughts? Problematic revert?

Here.

Although it is a perfectly legit edit, I understand from WP:MINOR (plus a loose interpretation of WP:REVEXP) that such an edit should not be marked as minor. As you seem way more experienced than me, I might have missed something, though. Tigraan (talk) 19:07, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is not important in such edits, but note that many edits are marked as minor by the java scripts I use, and I sometimes forget to change (the minor attribute). Materialscientist (talk) 22:39, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I was also told I was stealing from FanExpo.ca when the writings they were using were already being referenced on the Electric Playground websites. It was verbatim the same thing. this:

|atomic mass 2=2<ref name="IUPAC">[http://www.ciaaw.org/atomic-weights.htm 2013 Standard Atomic Weights]. [[Commission on Isotopic Abundances and Atomic Weights]]</ref>
or this:

|atomic mass 2=
If you prefer the second format, so we needn't the second parameter: "atomic mass 2" in our element box.

Please add new section to "Synthetic Diamond" page - reasoning follows:

Dear Material Sci,

Dr. Alfred Stiller (University of West Virginia) has developed a simple process to produce diamond from methanides, e.g. aluminum carbide, through reaction with Tin halides.

US Patent "Process for pure carbon production" (US 20140271441 A1) https://www.google.com/patents/US20140271441 describes the process.

If you read further into the patent you will see he also goes after the acetylides in what appears to be an attempt (I think) to produce Linear Acetylenic Carbon.

Anyway, I would argue that this new means to produce diamond should be added to the Wikipedia page for "Synthetic Diamond"

Thanks, CM — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carbonmancer (talkcontribs) 14:43, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested addition to the "Silicon Carbide" page:

Dear Material Sci,

Here's an addition to the "Silicon Carbide" page, under "Production" - I suggest adding it just after the text on "poly(methylsilyne)" ... yet another preceramic that produces silicon carbide upon thermolysis:

"Synthesis of Poly(silyne-co-hydridocarbyne) for Silicon Carbide Production" http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/10601325.2013.813782

Young Americans release date.

Hi!

The reason i switched the dates from the 21 of february to 7 of march 1975. Is because a lot of sources on the net says that the 'Album' young americans was released on the 7 of march. The 'Single' Young americans was released on the 21 of february. I checked the magazine billboard from 22 february and they don't seem to mention the album (yet). The main problem though is that there is no issue of the magazine on 'googlebooks' from the 22 february to july. Also the album didn't enter the uk charts until the 30 of march, (which a bowie album at the time would have taken just 2 weeks) And sometimes even the 'official' releases could be wrong, with their sources.!. :) greetings Jimmy

my account: Truthiskarma

1. Why did you block my account? 2. Why did you block it indefinitely? I was editing in good faith, providing explanations and references to all edits. I don't believe I was breaching Wiki editing policy in any way. If you believe that I was, then please explain how. I appreciate that some people didn't agree with my edits, but that alone never justifies blocking someone's account. I was not being abusive or disruptive. I thought I was being objective, impartial and neutral. The aim of my edits was to eliminate some of the overt abuses by editors who were not following Wiki editing policy and leaning to one side of a highly contentious topic. Where there is a heated debate over what is true and what is not, then this dicotomy of viewpoints should be reflected by way of impartial editing. For example, one should NOT state that "Russian troops were in Ukraine" if in the same paragraph one continues to assert that "... but Russia denies sending its troops into Ukraine". If Russia denies it, then unless the claim has been determined either way by an international court of justice (or other impartial body) the statement that "Russian troops WERE in Ukraine" can only be a report or allegation. Until the dispute has been settled, the correct wording for such a statement would be "Russian troops were reportedly in Ukraine" or something to that effect. This was the extent of my editing - adding a requisite degree of objectivity to the biased language used. I certainly don't see how I deserve to have had my account blocked for that, moreover indefinitely! Do you investigate complaints before taking action to block someone? It certainly doesn't seem that you did in my case. I await to hear your point of view. I have made a formal request to unblock my account, so you can email me. Hopefully, this matter can be sorted out quickly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.234.224.167 (talk) 02:43, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored your changes; however, someone can be remove them because we require secondary sources (not what a person says about himself) and in-line referencing - this allows to trace which source supports which fact. Materialscientist (talk) 03:38, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Some time ago, you blocked Binvox (talk · contribs) as a sock of MehulWB (talk · contribs). While obviously, I am not privy to that checkuser data, Binvox is 100% definitely part of the same farm as Nickaang (talk · contribs). Nick Aang (who I assume is not really just one person, but, rather, a team of people) runs a paid editing site at https://www.fiverr.com/nickaang/create-a-wikipedia-page ... he creates articles about mostly non-notable people and has had a huge number of accounts over the years - see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Nickaang. At the fiverr site, you can see that "johnelincoln" thanked Nick Aang for the great work creating a Wikipedia article for him, which is right after Ignite Visibility, owned by Mr. John E. Lincoln, was created by Binvox. Ergo Binvox is Nick Aang. Anyway, Bosedekio (talk · contribs) has now created John E. Lincoln. as you can see in the table, Brinell hardness of pure magnesium varies from 30 to 47 MPa, not 260, like you stated

Materialscienst, no response from you here. Who can I appeal this to? I feel it was an honest mistake. Campus rape[edit] I have reverted your addition there because it is based on a page from crisisconnectioninc.org, which is too unreliable and too local for representing those data as general statistics on wikipedia.

Welcome aboard BTW.Mattnad (talk) 17:52, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

He stays away a while and then comes back under IP addresses from time to time, and edits in bursts. Was just dealing with his latest run, which you can see here. The pattern is very very obvious. Reverting per WP:REVERTBAN , plus it is still random syntheses. Jytdog (talk) 12:24, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I see a message saying that I had edited an article "Marathon" and that the information was deleted on the grounds that it appeared to be incorrect. I haven't edited that article. In fact, I haven't edited any wikipedia article in the last years. My conection belongs to a Cooperative which provides internet service for most people in my town, I believe we all have the same IP. Vandal warned February 8th

LLAP Materialscientist:

The vandalism of Timothy Garton Ash happened 8 February [14], after which the IP did receive a warning [15], although not a level-4 warning.

The IP has few edits, concentrated on

  1. edit warring about Croation politics (according to [16]) and on
  2. defamatory vandalism on pro-EU/Western living persons' biographies.

It vandalised the Victoria Nuland today despite its having received a warning 8 February (again [17]).

I can understand not blocking an IP that sometimes or usually is making good edits, until a level-4 warning has been given, but this IP is not here.

Hi, what would you reccomend for tagging the article if G11 is no use. The article is being created by an editir who has registered with the name which the article states is the writer/ producer of the film, which at the least is COI ? Richard Harvey (talk)

I haven't checked the notability; if it is low, then it can be speedied as A7 (or prodded and then sent to AFD). G11 doesn't apply here, even if the article is written by writer/producer. WP:COI might apply, but not to basic facts. Materialscientist (talk) 11:34, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Now tagged A7, as suggested. It has no supporting references and he has also removed the major part of the content he wrote. Richard Harvey (talk) 11:47, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Correcting Birth Year, Name, Updating information

Hi, I read the page regarding verified sources and edits to the pages of living people. Can the living person himself be a source? Gary knows when he was born and he was sitting here with me while we made changes. Also, he prefers that his middle name be included. Wants to add info to the box - born in detroit, coach's name, etc. He wants to update the content and to make it accurate, and he is the best person to know this info. Also, he wants to add info about his current projects. Please don't change it back again. he has been wanting to correct the page for some time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.175.168.176 (talk) 23:02, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is usually discouraged that a person edits their own article, due to WP:Conflict of interest. At the very least, it is difficult to know if the person editing actually is who they say they are. (I'm sure he doesn't want people claiming to be him just so they can vandalize the page, so we need to guard against that.) Even simple edits like birthdates require a reliable source, so that others can verify that the information is accurate. If the subject is indeed with you, then he is probably able to find such sources, because people are often very aware of what is being written about them. However, it is not enough to say "he told me so," because that is just hear-say. Reliable sources would be newspaper articles, magazines, books, television interviews, vetted websites, etc... Zaereth (talk) 23:47, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks. I understand... didn't think about the editing process but as you explain it everything makes sense. I do have a photo of his drivers' licence, but for obvious reasons i do not want to post that here in this public space. Also, his birthdate is published in his new book, Falling For the Win, which I believe would qualify as a realiable source as you outlined it. Here is a link to his book: http://www.amazon.com/Falling-For-The-Gary-Visconti/dp/0692337814. There is a lot of other information available in that book that would be nice to add, e.g. that his coach was Don Stewart, and that he was (and is still) a member of the Detroit Skating Club, and that he is currently retired from daily coaching. I think the reason for the incorrect birthdate is that the announcer at the olympics in 68 had his age wrong... he was not 22 at the time, but rather 23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QaAi0ad9CU. hope that helps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.175.168.176 (talk) 22:11, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. You are most welcome to make any changes to correct factual inaccuracies, as long as you add a reference. The book would be an excellent one. You can usually just add the reference after the information, tucked between these codes: <ref> </ref> . Just remember to include the pertinent info, like title, author, publisher, date and the page(s) on which the information is found. For more information, see WP:References. Keep in mind that youtube is not considered a reliable source. See WP:Reliable source for more info.
Oh, and to avoid confusion in these discussions, it really helps if you sign your posts by typing four tildes after your post. (A tilde is that little squiggly line ~ near the top-left of your keyboard.) Happy editing. Zaereth (talk) 00:07, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Materialscientist. Are you changing my corrections to the article on pH? pH is not the measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. Those are very specific terms related to the buffering capacity of a solution and usually presented in units of calcium carbonate equivalent. By definition, pH is the negative log of the concentration (in moles per liter) of hydrogen ions in an aqueous solution. In practice, what we report as pH is more related to the activity of the hydrogen ions in an aqueous solution. Dumbing down the answer by saying it is a measure of acidity or alkalinity does a disservice to science, scientists and people in general. This seems right up your alley.

Lead (II) oxide contains different solubilities for different allotropes, which doesn't make sense to me. I can see how the allotrope would affect how long something took to dissolve, but is it really possible for different allotropes to have different solubilities?

The difference should be small for allotropes, not 5 times as it was stated; at least a good reference is needed for this strong statement. I've changed the dual solubility to a single, sourced value. Materialscientist (talk) 00:20, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Planet pages

Hey Materialscientist, I was editing the planet pages and noticed that Neptune and Venus are tagged British English while none of the other planets are ? Does it have something to do with who discovered them ? I can not think of any other reason, school me :P Thanks, Mlpearc (open channel) 23:35, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know for sure. Certainly this has nothing to do with the discoverers, more likely with WP:ENGVAR - Neptune and Venus were started in UK spelling, some others not. Sometimes spelling is changed and then preserved after a major rewrite. Only admins and template editors can create/edit editnotices on articles, thus only some pages have them. Materialscientist (talk) 23:41, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, Must be the "already started in this English version" reason, seems weird that the others don't have them, I asked you because you created the notices :) Thanx for the input. Cheers, Mlpearc (open channel) 00:16, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing. This is a purely technical matter. We can not block users, only user accounts and IPs. We have only vague indication on sharing and reuse of IPs, and thus have standard procedures on IP blocks, which rely on common sense and Whois-like indicators. 70.192.207.107 belongs to a wireless network, i.e., is it is not static IP assigned to a certain person for ages. I appreciate that, MS! :) Just in case they come back, could I get a semi-protection on my talk page for a few days or a week, letting only auto-confirmed users and staff edit it? Thank you. - Amaury (talk) 08:38, 14 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So far there is no evidence that this image may be hosted on Commons. I'll check the full article text on Monday ,if we have access - maybe the image is copied by the article author from some PD source, but this is unlikely. Materialscientist (talk) 09:06, 14 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adamari López

Hi! I saw that you had removed the birth date for Adamari López because the reference was poor. Is "People en Español" OK to use as a reference? The birth date (May 18th) is wrong on IMDB, where they have May 8th. The correct date is confirmed in Twitter messages every year on May 18th from Adamari López.

You also removed a height of 4ft 10in, saying it was unlikely. She is really quite petite, as you can see from the heels she is wearing in this photo. However, the only reference is IMDB, so I suspect it's better to leave it out.

Parenthetically, there was some unintentional humor in Camila, where the diminutive villain López was portrayed trying to strangle the much taller Bibi Gaytán.

Please take a look at the date of birth reference and revert my change if necessary. Ttwaring (talk) 15:09, 14 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I assume this is in regards to the revert on Dakota Skye (actress). Funny, I haven't been using Huggle much lately but decided to load it up a little while ago. That change was one of the first to come up and it almost tricked me up as well. I think only because I was hesitant from not using Huggle in a while, did I manage to not revert it. At least you caught it quick. Thanks btw for all the anti-vandal work you do. You are a rockstar among vandal fighters! --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 01:11, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

King of the Nerds

Wanted to say thanks for your well-intentioned edits. 112.203.211.96 has been a nuisance with disruptive editing and blatant vandalism. I believe a previous user stated in their edit summary that banned user Gabucho181 was using multiple IP socks. I'm not entirely sure how to report more socks though...

Anyway, 184.64.179.146 was reverted twice and given warnings by two separate users, including yourself, for removal of content, when he/she was removing vandalism by 112.203.211.96. I kinda feel bad they received warnings for doing something good. Wani (talk) 15:12, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Finding spam

I recently removed a number of external links added by Special:Contributions/98.150.96.146 per WP:EL#ADV. I did add a nospam user template to the userpage for that IP address. I have not found a connection between the IP editor and the website they are linking to. The domain for uncharted101.com is registered to an Adam Farrar with at address in Houston, Texas and is hosted at IP 199.27.134.55 in Noord-holland - Amsterdam. The IP address 98.150.96.146 geolocates to Palm Springs, California.

My question is in regards to finding eternal links to the same web site that may have added under a different IP address. Because of nofollow I can't just use google to search for uncharted101 on Wikipedia. Is there any other tool that could help me hunt down spam for a specific web site in Wikipedia articles? Nyth63 22:38, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think I just found what I need (via google) at Special:LinkSearch Nyth63 22:47, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Problematic User

@Materialscientist: Could you have a look at this user's contributions? I reverted a few of their edits, and while I'm pretty sure their vandalism (or disruptive, at the very least), I wanted to get a second opinion. Looking at their other edits, they've been reverted by two other users as well. Thank you. - Amaury (talk) 06:22, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Materialscientist: I forgot to get back to you earlier, but I asked MusikAnimal as well this morning, who took care of it, because you seem like a very busy guy. Cheers! :) - Amaury (talk) 19:51, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Brill

I edited the Brill page recently and you undid it for some reason. I merely put that the new vicar was Everend Priscilla Slusar, which would be helpful to all visitors to the Brill page. I know it is correct because it is me. How would I put a citation for that? Furthermore, the church benefits from the other reference about Brill which I added. Very much a novice in this wiki game so don't know if I have broken the rules and even if I have, how to fix it. Any help greatly appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gambler123456789 (talkcontribs) 14:41, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

St John's Catholic School for the Deaf, Boston Spa

Hi Materialscientist I've just updated the Ofsted section of the entry to include reference to the new Ofsted report Feb 2015 which was good for the school, and outstanding for sixth form and residential care. I've deleted the reference to the 2008 report when a safeguarding issue was highlighted (incorrect use of visitor badges) as it's old news now, and we've had several good/outstanding reports since then. Can you check I've done it right and that no one else puts back the old post (we have a troll who likes to rake up bad news from the past) Thanks Boston1869 Boston1869 (talk) 16:01, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again M. Last week you blocked 98.90.88.171 (talk · contribs). They have returned as 2602:306:25A5:9219:C55A:6C1B:63EA:7B59 (talk · contribs). wrong revert

Hello,

You reverted this disruptive edit [18]] by a currently blocked IP. The edits he/she made on that page haven't got to do with the territory of Iran. It all belongs on articles such as about "Buddhism in Turkmenistan", "Buddhism in Afghanistan", etc. it's nothing more than wishful propagandising religious influences of unrelated foreign history by disruptively adding it there. It has to be removed again as I did so.

Thanks in advance and awaiting your response, 84.241.212.239 (talk) 04:02, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Those regions partly fall within the present-day or past territory of Iran. Materialscientist (talk) 04:39, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then what purpose do articles like Buddhism in Turkmenistan or Buddhism in Afghanistan have? The article title is Buddhism in Iran, yet only talks about and contains sources about Buddhism in former Eastern territories of ancient Iranian empires. The fact that it hasn't got any documentation about the religion in modern day Iran doesn't mean it needs to be filled by info about former territories that are nowadays separate and distinct nations. Also he/she on top of that, added a lot more unreliable unsourced synthesises that are clearly personal opinion. (Such as "(...)and through the Kushan, Indo-Parthian, Indo-Scythian rule at Khorasan and Gedrosia of East Iran." and, "From the 1st century to the 3rd century CE, the Balochistan region was ruled by the Pāratarājas (lit. "Pārata Kings"), a dynasty of Indo-Scythian or Indo-Parthian kings. Gedrosia is the name of an area that corresponds to today's Balochistan, that consists of Balochistan Pakistan & Iranian Baluchistan, and Afghan Baluchistan.[1]. <- Uses a wiki link as source here!, and another example, "It is said that Buddhism was also practised in Iranian Baluchistan."
This edit by this blocked IP contains as I have demonstrated irrelevant, redundant, unsourced (even uses wiki links as refs) and therefore illegitimate additions for this article, and needs to be removed. The version prior to his/her disruptive edit contains a much better, more reliable, relevant, and legit version.[19]
Regards and thanks in advance, awaiting your response :-)

I respectfully submit that the previous article was too commercialized and subjective. Additionally it was a little confusing and overly complicated. My changes reduced the article to a simple explanation of the ventilation control method called demand controlled ventilation without the details about what a sensor is or extra hyphenation, etc... — Preceding unsigned comment added by IsoFocus (talkcontribs) 04:18, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi M, with regard to this vandal, I've been calling him the Marhc Vandal. Is there an LTA report on him somewhere that I should be aware of? Hi Materialiscientist,

Are you sure about that undo for entry '139 Ute untriennium' on page 'Electron configurations of the elements (data page)' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electron_configurations_of_the_elements_(data_page))

Compare (first line of entry)

    139 Ute untriennium : [Uuo] 5g13 6f2 7d2 8s2 8p2

with (second line of entry)

    ... 5g13 | 6s2 6p6 6d10 6f3 | 7s2 7p6 7d1 | 8s2 8p2

6f2 or 6f3 ? 7d1 or 7d2 ?

Demand Controlled Ventilation

It appears that the two articles were not read prior to undoing my work. Please read them. I hope that you will agree that the old "Demand-controlled ventilation" article was was too commercial and subjective. I also think you will find it overly complicated and filled with additional not relavant content. The new article that I wrote was a simple explanation of a basic control sequence used in HVAC.

It appears you are a more advanced user of Wikipedia. I suspect it will be very easy for you to revert the two pages back to the way I left them. Which I maintain was not vandalism but a significant improvement and useful de-cluttering.
