A FAC on Campus

Hi Magic, I saw this edit [1] after the ping failed to work. Sorry, I think you need someone with more FAC experience. Ribbet32 (talk) 22:11, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rationale for edit?

Your edits [[2]] removed the following information without any explanation:

On November 9, 2015, Phi Kappa Psi filed a $25 million lawsuit against Rolling Stone in state court "to seek redress for the wanton destruction caused to Phi Kappa Psi by Rolling Stone's intentional, reckless, and unethical behavior."[1][2] In September 2016, the magazine sought to have the lawsuit dismissed; however, a circuit court judge ruled that the suit could proceed.[3] On June 13, 2017, the lawsuit was settled for $1.65 million.[4]

Can you explain the edits?

Thanks,

JS (talk) 23:17, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thecmonument in Baltimore

It took a bit of poking to find this out, but the monument in Baltimore is near-unique in that it does not contain a statue. So what was destroyed? The obelisk still stands. I still think it's useful, in this case, to specify that it was the inscription that was destroyed. deisenbe (talk) 19:55, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Magic, it looks to me as if you're rather busy, indeed in something like hot water for your GA nominations. Nothing much has happened on this article since the 20th, and while I'm not in a hurry, GANs mustn't just sit about for weeks on end. I am inclined to end the review now, unless you can assure me that there is some special reason like you have ordered some reviews from the library and they're arriving tomorrow. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:53, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm quite busy and it's probably for the best that the review is ended. Perhaps when I'm less busy we can pick this up again? - MagicatthemovieS
Of course. I suggest you follow through with the suggested changes until you're happy with them, and then get it peer reviewed or just nominate it again. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:54, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA review nominations

Hi, MagicatthemovieS. I hope that you keep in mind what NinjaRobotPirate, MarnetteD and I recently stated in the case of one of your nominations. I mean, looking here, it's clear that you nominated several articles. I removed the one in question. What would you do if you had two or more reviews going on at the same time? Anyway, I ask that you be more considerate of article contributors before nominating articles for GA. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 20:06, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Magic, I do hope you take this message to heart. Wikipedia needs more good and featured articles, and my best guess about your nominations is that you look for articles close to the mark, do a some work on them, and nominate them. Intentions may be very good, but aside from points raised above and at the cited talk page, GAC has a lot of backlog and you're not doing any reviewing for QPQ. I don't think Gone Girl (film) is ready in its current state either, as Flyer22 Reborn seems to have alluded to. Ribbet32 (talk) 14:48, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, Ribbet, Flyer22 and everyone else if I caused you any trouble. I really was just trying to help. - MagicatthemovieS
I know you're trying to help, there's no question about that, and that you have helped on different articles. My main question was, have you considered performing the occasional review here and there? Ribbet32 (talk) 03:12, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I should. - MagicatthemovieS
MagicatthemovieS, see what was stated on my talk page by me and BlueMoonset. You really should not be making these nominations unless you are a significant contributor to the article. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 04:25, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing what Ribbet32 stated above about you possibly reviewing, I don't think you are ready to be a reviewer. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 14:31, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your work to promote this article to GA status. It's a quite a turnaround from when there was a concerted effort to delete the article in 2009, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Maura Murray (2nd nomination). I salvaged it at the time and I'm pleased to see much of my material has remained in the article. Thank you for re-including content about the online reception of the case; I'd added this before, but it was stripped out because some Wikipedians have a paradoxical dislike of such things. Your GA review nominations, part 2

Regarding this nomination at the Apple of Sodom (song) article, perhaps you took what Ribbet32 and I stated in the #Your GA review nominations section above to heart? I ask because you actually worked on that article before nominating it. Not sure if I would call you a major contributor to it or not. Anyway, as long as you significantly work on an article before nominating it, there shouldn't be any issue with you making these nominations...if the other significant contributors don't object or are unlikely to object. It can be a good idea to ask on the article talk page first whether an article is ready for GA. Give people at least two days to reply. If no one answers after that, then you should feel free to press ahead with the nomination. To repeat: You should be a significant contributor to the article you are nominating and you should have the time to work on the article per the GA reviewer's concerns. As a number of failed GA nominations posted above on your talk page show, you either often do not have the time or you do not put much effort in. Don't be concerned with trying to rack up a whole bunch of GA articles, if that is a part of your drive. If you've had little to do with the improvement of an article, but nominate it for GA, it's like you are riding off the hard work of others. Personally, I think it's more satisfying when one is a part of that hard work. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 14:42, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I did take Ribbet32's advice to heart. I actually was a major contributer to the "Apple of Sodom" article (look at the history of the page, I'd venture to say I did at least 75% of the edits). As of late, I have been massively changing sub-par articles and then nominating them for GA status, which I did for the Delilah article. I agree with your views on hard work. Thanks for the guidance on how to become a better Wikipedian, and for the follow-up.MagicatthemovieS (talk) 14:42, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Images at Satan

Thank you for all the terrific and helpful images you have added to the article Satan. I just thought I would note that you might not want to add any more; we probably do not have space and I think we have enough already. If you find more useful images, we may want to consider replacing ones that are already in the article instead because we do not want to overwhelm the reader with too many pictures. I think that, right now, the numbers of images we have is probably just perfect. --Katolophyromai (talk) 03:54, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Katolophyromai: I felt the same way when I added the image of the shofar. Great minds think alike! However, if you want to remove any images I added, feel free to do so.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Pocahontas (1995 film), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Stephen Schwartz (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Annihilation film and "The Colour out of Space"

Hi MagicatthemovieS, I'm a Wikipedia novice so apologies if I am doing this wrong. First off, thanks for your edits to the Annihilation (film) page. It looks great! One of the edits concerns me a bit though: the addition of the link to H.P. Lovecraft's "The Colour out of Space." It's not entirely clear what the connection is since it's only a link and I'm worried that readers might misconstrue it to mean that the film or book was influenced by Lovecraft's story. To quote VanderMeer[1]: "I know that personally it is frustrating to find readers making a connection between my work and Lovecraft’s when he not only wasn’t an influence, but was a writer who bored me silly when I first encountered him." I know that the film and "Colour" share some similarities though. Maybe there's a way to clarify that? Thanks.

  • @Rtkat3: The article already passed for GA. With all due respect, if you would like the article further changed, I would suggest you do it yourself.--MagicatthemovieS

I've opened an RfC on the question of whether this article should be included in Category:Obscenity controversies in music. You'll find it here. In the meantime, the article stays in the status quo ante, i,e, not in the category, until there is a consensus. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:29, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What the heck are you doing?

I've reverted several changes to categorization on school articles just now. Schools are not monuments or memorials. They are also not songs. Please self revert the rest of your changes to categorization on school articles and seek a consensus for your changes at a central location like WT:WPSCH. Thanks John from Idegon (talk) 00:24, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also, you should seriously consider archiving your talk page. The majority of Wikipedia users access the site on mobile devices and your talk page is getting to the size where it will crash mobile browsers. John from Idegon (talk) 00:28, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@John from Idegon: According to the article List of Confederate monuments and memorials, schools named after Confederates count as monuments and memorials.--MagicatthemovieS
That has absolutely nothing to do with this. John from Idegon (talk) 00:46, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@John from Idegon: Wikipedians have already determined that a school named after Robert E. Lee counts as a Confederate memorial. By the way, I deleted old, unimportant aspects of my talk page so that it would be easier to load.--MagicatthemovieS
No, a few (more likely "a") Wikipedians determined that schools should be listed on a single list article. That is in no way a consensus to add them to a category. I see I'm not the only editor that has taken issue with your categorization work. In order to be added into a category, an article has to have information in it on the topic of the category. An article on a school has no information on the Confederate States of America (and if it did, it should be removed as off topic) and an article on a lake has no information in it on Stonewall Jackson. John from Idegon (talk) 01:05, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nardog (talk) 22:50, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you're too lazy to add tildes every time you comment, what you can do alternatively is add {{YesAutosign}} to your user page and let SineBot take care of your signatures. Nardog (talk) 22:56, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is why I came to this page as well, to add a "please sign your talk page comments" template message. Adding four tildes (~~~~) is pretty easy and becomes second nature if you post enough. Or, like Nardog said, you can add the auto-sign template to your page and then your posts will be signed for you. Either way, please see to it that your post are signed, as it is one of the guidelines here. Thank you - theWOLFchild 02:01, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm surprised you're still making incomplete signatures like "MagicatthemovieS (talk)MagicatthemovieS" despite having been warned by a total of four people in the past year. Just because a film isn't shown in a certain country doesn't automatically mean it constitutes an "obscenity controversy". I would recommend not adding the category to any film that doesn't have some version of the term "obscene" within the article itself, as you are arguably engaging in original research. If you disagree you are welcome to ask the question at the article's Talk page. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 19:17, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Cruising (film), you may be blocked from editing. You are continuing to apply Category:Obscenity controversies in film inappropriately. The protests related to this film don't appear to have had anything to do with obscenity. Please stop. DonIago (talk) 19:41, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Obscenity controversies in film

What were the 'Obscenity controversies in film' in Peeping Tom (film)? I might recall some obsceneties but no controvosy about them -- SteveCrook (talk) 10:50, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@SteveCrook: The film was banned in Finland for years.MagicatthemovieS (talk) 13:37, 10 August 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]

On 4 September 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Great God Pan, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Arthur Machen's novella The Great God Pan has influenced such writers as H. P. Lovecraft, Peter Straub, and Stephen King? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Great God Pan. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, The Great God Pan), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. The Hills Have Eyes

Hello MagicatthemovieS, Sorry about the delay in reply. Looking at the article for The Hills Have Eyes, the article seems to be coming together fine. There are just things that need to be worked on. The Post-production section seems to be a little short, if there is more information from reliable sources it should be added to that sub-section (the film has been banned in some countries), if there isn't any then that's fine. The article is also missing information on the film's various home media releases (VHS, DVD, Blue-ray) that needs to be added to the article in a Home media sub section under "Release". Franchise and Popular culture section can be expanded a bit more, with the Franchise section noting the success of this film spawning the franchise. Popular culture section can be expanded somewhat as well, with the Raimi, Craven thing given a bit more detail (Here's a good starting point: https://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3417253/long-history-wes-craven-sam-raimis-communication-film/). I'm not entirely certain, but I think the Wrong Turn series was inspired by The Hills Have Eyes, any unofficial sequels, and slight mentioning that the film spawned various rip offs need to be added as well. It's looking good so far, I will try to help with the continued expansion when I can (I am working on a bunch of different projects at the moment so my contributions might not be as big as I would like).--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:26, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I can't promise anything. But I'll let you know if I do.--Paleface Jack (talk) 19:35, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Paleface Jack: Sure thing. Do you know where I can find info on the film's home video releases? I'm especiall worried that I won't be able to find info on its VHS release. Also, do you know any other Wikipedians who would be interested in reviewing the article?MagicatthemovieS (talk) 19:39, 25 September 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]

I look on Allmovie, Amazon for DVD/VHS releases but sometimes amazon doesn't cover all the VHS releases and repeating sources is kind of a stickler for me. As for other Wiki users, I don't know.--Paleface Jack (talk) 19:48, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Paleface Jack: Allmovie has info on the film's DVD and Blu-ray releases, but I can't find info on the film's VHS release anywhere. What do I do? Is there a way to cite a VHS cover or something?MagicatthemovieS (talk) 16:47, 3 October 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]

I'll look into it (rolls up sleeves)...--Paleface Jack (talk) 16:54, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, no. I did however find a couple of sources though and VHS Collector.com is a good start, however I can't seem get on it. I will add some sources if you can try for VHS Collector site.--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:25, 3 October 2018 (UTC) Let me know if you can access the site first before adding it to the page.--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:26, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Paleface Jack: I can't access that website. When you say "Unfortunately, no" are you saying I lack enough info on the film's VHS release or that you won't review the article? Just asking for clarification.MagicatthemovieS (talk) 17:32, 3 October 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]

I'll see what I can do about expanding the Home media section. In the mean time keep looking for more possible sources for the VHS release and give them to me. Other users might be able to help as well but I can't think of any at the moment. Keep up the good work!--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:35, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Finished the first edit. Tis a bummer though that VHS Collector website isn't responding though. I kind of like that site as it gives dates and distributors for various VHS releases of films.--Paleface Jack (talk) 18:02, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Paleface Jack: Thanks for your help. However, I should inform you that the higher-ups at Wikipedia have decided that Amazon is not a valid source (shrugs). Thanks again for improving the article.MagicatthemovieS (talk)MagicatthemovieS

I had a feeling that it was bound to happen. Oh, well. It just makes finding other sources a lot harder.--Paleface Jack (talk) 19:16, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Hills Have Eyes

Hi MagicatthemovieS! I'll see what I can do. I'm a bit swamped as of this month, but I do like the idea of trying to get more GA quality material for Halloween. I've submitted my Matango article awhile ago and these things sometimes take a while to fill up. Can't promise anything, but I'll see if I can find time. Andrzejbanas (talk) 04:16, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not that I have officially started a review, but I would try to compile a contemporary and retrospective reception of the film in the reception section. Currently, there is only a slightly mixed group of reviews. Would it be possible to dig up some original reviews? Andrzejbanas (talk) 13:28, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Andrzejbanas: The only original reviews I have are from Roger Ebert, Leonard Martin, and Variety. Do you think that is enough for its own sub-section?MagicatthemovieS (talk) 14:34, 5 October 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]
Well the Ebert one seems to be part of another review, which is a sliver weak (as its a review of Swamp Thing first and foremost.) I can't do it today, but I'd be willing to go and seek out other reviews perhaps later next week. My local university has a library that lets me search a lot of original reviews. Andrzejbanas (talk) 14:47, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Andrzejbanas: Thanks! If you decide to review the article, when would you do it?MagicatthemovieS (talk) 14:51, 5 October 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]
It all depends honestly. If I find a lot of information to contribute, I don't think I'll be able to do a review as I would have added too much to the article. I'll try to get back to you by the end of next week. If you don't hear from me, feel free to send me a message. Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:41, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Andrzejbanas: I now have four contemporary reviews of the film and several retrospective ones. Seeing as there's no Wiki rule for how many reviews need to be cited in a film article, I think that you reviewing the article would be a much greater help that you adding more citations to reviews, considering that if you add too much to the article you cannot review it. Thanks so much for your help!MagicatthemovieS (talk) 17:41, 5 October 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Eckhart Tolle. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Softlavender (talk) 07:15, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt anyone would find enough cause to block for this, especially since the entire incident could've been easily avoided had the blocked template also been added to the top of the talk page back when it was added to the main user page. There is no notification whatsoever on TheGracefulSlick's talk about them being blocked, and certainly no need for the edit warring or WP:TPO violations on your part. Or maybe a more informative edit summary than "no" first time around would be helpful in not having the situation escalate in the first place. A little bit of understanding and restraint next time around, don't you think @Bbb23:? Homeostasis07 (talk) 00:57, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Discretionary sanctions notice: Arab–Israeli conflict

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have recently shown interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect: any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or any page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Thank you for your recent edits to the page. Just be careful about that 1RR—it's not worth getting banned. Wikieditor19920 (talk) 23:04, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Wikieditor19920: What's the 1RR?MagicatthemovieS (talk)MagicatthemovieS
The page's edit history showed you made a series of non-consecutive reverts and the page is under 1RR restriction. It seems another editor did, too, so I'm not trying to get on your case, and I do think your changes were an improvement--just giving a heads up. Wikieditor19920 (talk) 01:28, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was about to say the same. There are some exceptions to WP:3RR but it's best to err on the side of not reverting when unsure. Removing large portions of text is always reverting, and changing a small amount of text is usually a problem if it's a revert of a recent edit, so it's a good idea to check recent edits to avoid breaking the rule if you've already performed one revert (or three if 3RR is in place). wumbolo ^^^ 16:42, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Breach of 1RR

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Linda Sarsour shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially, as the page in question is currently under restrictions from the Arbitration Committee, if you violate the one-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than one revert on a single page with active Arbitration Committee restrictions within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the one-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the one-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

You have twice today added back material on Sarsour's supposed religious views that was removed by other users. Please self-revert to avoid being blocked from editing. Thank you. –Sangdeboeuf (talk) 18:09, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-Zionism

Anti-Zionism is a nebulous thing, but you ought to read WP:CAT#Articles as well as WP:LABEL. Unless reliable sources (not partisan sources) clearly and consistently describe somebody or something as anti-Zionist, the category doesn't apply. Disagreeing with the current government of Israel or its policies is hardly anti-Zionism, nor is support for BDS. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 04:50, 16 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mark the GA page with the outcome (Kept or Delisted). If it is kept you just need to remove the GAR template from the talk page and update the article history template. If you are delisting it you do the same, but also need to change the class assessment on the talk page and remove it from the WP:GA list and remove the {{good article}} template fro the article page. I have asked multiple times for a bot to do this, but so far there have been no takers, so we are stuck with it being a manual process. AIRcorn (talk) 04:06, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How long do you think it will take for a response from an administrator?MagicatthemovieS (talk) 20:43, 9 May 2019 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]
(oops edit conflict - someone already replied) the guideline advising against doing what you are doing follows right in the very next part of that sentence, “there is no need to take pages out of the parent category purely because of their membership of a non-diffusing subcategory”. Also the edit summaries you are leaving are going to cause alarm bells to anyone like me who has a bunch of articles on the far right on their watch list. Your use of words like ‘evil’ and ‘racist POS’ would suggest that you have some reason for making the edits aside from, or in addition to category organization. When you edit in quick succession like that, they all come up on my watch list together and it looks at a glance like POV editing - especially given the subject within which all of those articles fall.
