Hello, Blanche of King's Lynn, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Chocolate Soldier[edit]

Thanks for your additions to the article, but you need to add references to WP:Reliable sources when you add information. Do you have a reference relating the Israeli army term to the operetta? If not, please delete the new information. Wikipedia's increasing reliability depends on referencing published sources. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:24, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You wanted to add this infomation to the article about the operetta The Chocolate Soldier:

In the colloquial Hebrew of Israel, especially as used among IDF [WHAT IS IDF?? Please do not use abbreviations without explanation] soldiers, the term "A Chocolate Soldier" (Hayal Shel Shokolad, חייל של שוקולד), ultimately derived from the operetta,[citation needed] is a term for a clumsy or spoiled soldier who fails to exhibit militaristic virtues. The term can be used pejoratively or humorously, depending on context.[citation needed]

What published source can you point to that proves that what you wrote here is true? Is it clear that the term has anything to do with the operetta? We need a clear citation proving that.

You also wanted to add this information: A Hebrew song "The Chocolate Soldier", was written by Hanoch Levin [1], [2].

Does this song have anything to do with the operetta? If so, what?

The term is also used; other conspicuous use of the term [3], [4], [5], [6].

What are these uses? What do they have to do with the operetta? Don't just throw this into the article without explaining how it is relevant to the article. Thanks. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:06, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's a little bit better, but it is not a balanced entry into the article, because there are no other descriptions in the article of cultural references to the show from around the world. In any case, what does the song by Hanoch Levin have to do with the operetta? Do you have a reference that states that his song is based on, or refers to the operetta? Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 14:42, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I have done my best, and this is a concrete connection to the operetta. I think it deserves to be in, even if there are no traceable cultural connections from other countries. About the Hanoch Levin poem and the song, I don't have such a concrete proof, as yet, though I suspect there is one. I agree Wikipedia can;t take my guess as a fact - if I find verification I will put it back in. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 15:53, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough - You did a good job finding the reference. I'm sure there are other cultural references for this musical, but we haven't done the research, and I am not inclined to put in the time on this article. Happy editing. -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to Pope Urban IV has been reverted, as it introduced negative or controversial biographical material without providing a reliable source for this information. Wikipedia requires that all such material be sourced to address the issue of libel. Thank you. Flewis(talk) 09:48, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 • Sorry, but this is nonsense. I did not claim this is an actual event in the life of this Pope, but when a historical figure becomes a prominent character in a well-known legend this is a relevant information for his Wikipedia page.Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 09:52, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Blanche. Do you have references that you can cite for this new information? If so, please put them in. Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:52, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you simply Google for "Tannhäuser" + "Pope Urban" you will find many dozens of references, since this is a very well-known legend which is part of European culture and inspired Wagner, Swinburne and others. I put in two references which seemed to me the most thorough. I could put in ten others, if needed. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 17:10, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good, but it is the editor's responsibility to put references in for all new information added. WP:V is one of the most important policies in Wikipedia. I removed the subscription only reference and formatted the second one so that the reference gives bibliographic information in the footnote. See WP:CITE. I also added "cite needed" tags in the two further places that need references. You assert that they lived contemporaneously - that needs a reference. You also assert that there is no historical evidence confirming the legend. That also needs to be referenced. By adding references to Wikipedia, you make a much stronger encyclopedia. We can't tell readers that "everyone knows" what we wrote is true: rather, we must select WP:reliable sources that show that what we write is true. Thanks for working on the project! -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:59, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to take care of these two problems as best I could. Their being contemporaries I think is unquestionable with the one having died in 1264 and the other being very active in the decades before 1264 and having died at some time after 1265, and having been already very active in the 1240's. I felt at liberty to take away the "citation needed". The other I think is also clearly taken care of - the information about Tannhäuser's life comes from his poetry, and I am sure if there was any reference in his poetry to having met the Pope for a casual chat, this would be mentioned by anyone talking of the later legend. But I will let you decide if this is enough. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 19:28, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, you need to add references, not more stuff that belongs in the Tannhauser article. If something is "unquestionable", then people must have written about it, and there must be a WP:reliable source for it. There must be sources that say 1) when historians think the historical Tannhauser died; 2) When the legend first appeared; and 3) That there is no historical evidence of the legend. You must have read that somewhere. Where? This article is very bad, because it is essentially unreferenced. If you want to improve the article, you need to add referenced information. The Tannhauser article is also an underreferenced article. If you want to make them better, you can get the best sources from your google search and add citations to them to the articles. If you need help formatting the citations, I'd be happy to help you, but a good encyclopedia presents sourced information. For an example of a WP:Featured Article that shows its sources, see: Trial by Jury. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:06, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will do my best along these lines, within a the coming day or so - should not be difficult as there is so much online material. It is a bit unfair, though - I saw no "citation needed" in the original Tannhäuser article. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 21:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The recent edit you made to John the Hungarian constitutes vandalism, and has been reverted. Please do not continue to vandalize pages; use the sandbox for testing. Thank you. PrinceOfCanada-HG (talk) 10:09, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 • There is a page about a Hungarian who was a diplomat, and I place him in the category of Hungarian Diplomats, for the convenience of people interested in this subject. Where is the vandalism?Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 10:26, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not vandalize pages, as you did with this edit to Exultavit cor nostrum. If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing. PrinceOfCanada-HG (talk) 11:03, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, there is no vandalism involved. John the Hungarian was a Hungarian, and he was a diplomat, so there is nothing wrong with placing him in the category of Hungarian Diplomats so that people who are interested in this subject can find him according to this category. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 11:55, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Exultavit cor nostrum is not a diplomat, does not belong in that category, and considering your other edits is vandalism. Prince of Canada t | c 12:02, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
John the Hungarian is a redirect page which leads people to the Exultavit cor nostrum page where the information about this person - who was Hungarian and was a diplomat - appears. I first placed the "Hungarian Diplomats" category on the John the Hungarian page and you immediately reverted that as "vandalism". There, I agree, is the most logical place to place this category. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 12:17, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is very long since I last heard from you, so - unless you give me a convincing reason not to within the coming hour - I will restore the "Hungarian Diplomats" category to John the Hungarian - and that will not be vandalism. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 19:41, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Blanche. You cannot assume that Prince is reading your talk page. You should move the discussion to the article's talk page. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:09, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did, nearly an hour ago. So far he had not responded. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 20:48, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't bother watching the talk pages of every article I touch. I made a mistake, sorry. Prince of Canada t | c 20:54, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine, I am sure you catch many cases of real vandalism and it is important somebody is doing it. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 21:08, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Fine Arts Building (Los Angeles) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. • Hi. I have declined the speedy on this article, convinced by your plea on the talk page. Do you think you can do anything towards expanding it? You might get some help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Architecture. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:30, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, will see what I can do. I never did anything in this field, but I am willing to try new things. The building is definitely noteworthy. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 23:55, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The McShines of Trinidad[edit]

Hello Blanche,

I live in the U.S., and my father is from Trinidad. His mother's maiden name was McShine. I noticed that you used the book "The McShines of Trinidad" by Anthony De Verteuil as a reference. Would you happen to know where I could obtain a copy of that book? I have recently started researching my ancestry and have had much luck on my mother's side (all Americans) but not on my father's. Thanks. Geoboe84 (talk) 22:52, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, a friend of mine has gotten a copy of it from the Library of Congress in Washington, which had an excess copy which they sent her in exchange for some papers she sent them. I saw the copy at my friend's home. The Library of Congress should be able to give you specific information. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 07:47, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PS: You can try contacting my friend by mail, her name is Ilana Karmeli and she lives in Israel. Her mail is

<Ilana.karmeli.2009@hotmail.co.il> and she might be able to look up things for you in her copy and perhaps send you photocopies of some relevant passages. But it might take some time for her to answer you, as at the moment she is travelling in Europe and not always having access to her email. Greetings from another "participant" in the developement of The English Patient (film)[edit]

I hope you are not offended when your contribution is reverted by another "participant" that uses the action freely and often.A1Houseboy 17:05, 28 February 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by A1Houseboy (talkcontribs)

Greetings--I just knew that your contribution to TEP would be reverted by that person. Do not fret as all it seems to come from that person is editing of other people's contribution; hardly any new contributions and in fact sometime very insulting and caustic remarks about the actions of others if they persist in having their contributions remain. And when that person takes an interest in an article you can never contribute anything that is approved by that person by that person personally entering it into the article in how that person wants it worded which is usually never in the form that one contributes. So, hope you are not put off. I always look at the history of an article before starting to contribute least that person appear and dominate the development. Have a good one and continue to contribute. — Preceding unsigned comment added by A1Houseboy (talkcontribs) 04:48, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edit at Mark Twain[edit]

Hi! I noticed your recent edit to this article. I reverted your edit because I thought this link obscure; the information about lost Mark Twain works is deeply buried. The additional material from Lost work could be used to expand the paragraph in the Twain article (beginning "A complete bibliography...). I think this would be of more use to a reader. - Neonorange (talk) 01:15, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Quote by Dominic Flandry?[edit]

Hello. Where you find quote "The coward dies a thousand times, the brave man only once. As for me, I have had a change of heart after my 847th death" (The Rebel Worlds)? Can you to call book's publication, chapter? I didn't find it in e-book of this novel.--Philip J.1987qazwsx (talk) 16:14, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly did not make it up. I have just re-read the whole Flandry saga from beginning to end for the first time in more than twenty years, and I am quite sure he did say it, and nearly sure it was in The Rebel Worlds. But I will try to find the precise place.Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 09:27, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I looked it over, but in fact did not find anything which needed to be improved. Quite well written. An interesting episode - obviously neither side ever intended to abide by the treaty. And if I remember rightly, only a few years later the French King took over Normandy altogether and kicked the English out. (Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 23:42, 25 February 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New Mexican Ladino[edit]

I notice you added a definition to the Ladino disambiguation page of “the variety of Mexican Spanish spoken in New Mexico.” Is that to differentiate it from the native language of Hispanos in that state?

A while ago the article for New Mexican Spanish asserted that the dialect is called Ladino in Mexico, but I removed it as dubious and unsourced. If you, however, could provide any more leads on the NM variety known as “Ladino,” or areas where español neomexicano is called Ladino, that’d be great! I came up empty-handed.

Thanks! —Wiki Wikardo 09:38, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Orange[edit]

Hello, Blanche of King's Lynn. I removed Orange Order, Orange Order in Scotland, and Orange Order in Canada from the disambiguation page, Orange. Those appear to be "partial name matches", things that have Orange as a part of their name, but are not called simply Orange. In the Orange Order article, for example, there are references to Orange Order, Orangemen, and Orange Institution, but no references to the group as Orange or the Orange.

If I have made a mistake – that is, if the group is sometimes called simply Orange – then you may want to re-add the links. If you do, however, be aware that the style guide for disambiguation pages stipulates only one blue link per bullet. In other words, you should write something like *Orange Order, a fraternal organization in Northern Ireland rather than * Orange Order in North Ireland. Striped Tiger[edit]

Hi Blanche,

I see that you turned Striped Tiger into a disambiguation page. I changed it back, because I think that it's highly unlikely that a user will go there expecting to find an article about tigers. --Slashme (talk) 13:52, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

 • Well, what happened is I followed today's featured article on R. V. C. Bodley. I saw that he got the Order of Wen-Hu (4th Class) by the Republic of China in 1921. I was curious about that award, followed into its page and saw that it means "The Order of the Striped Tiger" - and named for the animal, not the butterfly. So, a confusion is quite possible. I just removed[edit]

the image that you added at War memorial. It was decided a long time ago that we would only have one memorial per country pictured and there is already one from Italy. Your picture is arguably better than the other Italy, so could replace it. I would have no objection, but I leave that decision and action to you. I understand, that is a very sensible rule.Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 19:38, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at it, I think the existing Italian photo is a better choice because it is a photo of the War Memorial, pure and simple, while what I wanted to put in is a photo of a city square which also includes a war Memorial. So I think I will leave things as they are. All the best Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 19:43, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hadrian[edit]

Hello, hope you don't mind, but the positioning of the short section you've been working on seemed to interrupt the natural chronology (coming, as it did, before the section on his death). I've repositioned it towards the end -- this seems especially fitting considering the very long term consequences of Hadrian's overweening policies in the Middle East. Haploidavey (talk) 18:38, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You might be right. The whole affair is just an example of how arrogance of power can make an intelligent person stupid - Hadrian probably thought he was doing the Jews a favor by rebuilding Jerusalem, and that thay should not mind a temple to Jupiter since in his view the Roman Jupiter and the Jewish Yahweh were just two names of the same god, and he could not really understand why this good intention plan caused the Jews to break out into a terrible big uprising...Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 22:37, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

History of Israel/Palestine[edit]

Editorialising, not to mention duplicating the same editorial in both articles, is not permitted on Wikipedia. El_C 06:40, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, so Wikipedia users have just to get used to the fact that there are two pages dealing with the history of the same country, and that it does not seem possible to merge them. So be it, people can draw their own conclusions about this anomalous situation even without my "editorializing". Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 13:49, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Blanche of King's Lynn. The articles are not about the "same country". 'History of Palestine' is about the geographic region known as Palestine and 'History of Israel' is about the State of Israel. The article mentions Israel's historical background which include Ancient Israel as well as the Jewish community of Palestine through the centuries. The fact it overlaps with the History of the region of Palestine/Land of Israel doesn't mean they are about the same subject. Infantom (talk) 15:07, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That is exactly the point which I tried to make in my forbidden "Editorialising". Israel is a modern state which was founded in 1948, so logically the history of Israel could have been deemed to have started in 1948. However, since Israel is a Jewish State following the Zionist ideology, it considers any Jewish/Hebrew presence in the country over thousands of years to be part of its history - and therefore the page about the History of Israel, a state founded in 1948, begins in Pre-History. The History of Israel and the History of Palestine pages describe both the history of the same geographical area and are both divided into the same historical periods, but the History of Israel puts a much greater emphasis on Jews/Hebrews (even in periods when they were a small minority). That is obvious enough, the reasons for it are obvious enough, and I see no reason to try to change it. I only thought that an interested Wikipedia user who is not so familiar with the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict might find it a bit bewildering, so I tried to drop a useful hint. Since "Editorialising is not permitted on Wikipedia", intelligent people will have just to work it out for themselves.Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 15:52, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I liked it - certainly the sentiment is something that should be communicated. See the intro to History of Jerusalem for a properly sourced version of something similar. Onceinawhile (talk) 21:53, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That is very much what I had in mind. And it does not seem to have been considered as "Editorialising"...

Speedy deletion nomination of Battle of Nicopolis (1912)[edit]

Hello Blanche of King's Lynn,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Battle of Nicopolis (1912) for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Werner Keller Article - February 2014[edit]

Hello
The article written on the 22 February 2014 contains no references. Do you have any references for the article, particularly concerning his efforts in WW2 for the Jewish people. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

I copied two references from the German Wikipedia page and found one more online reference. Will try to work further on this. The material I found mentions him honoring somebody else who saved Jews, does not mention his own acts. Will continue searching.Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 20:56, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Blanche of King's Lynn. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Karl Sitter (journalist) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Karl Sitter (journalist), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Jalen D. Triple Goddess (Neopaganism)[edit]

Unfortunately, using File:Seven Days in New Crete Cover.jpg in article Triple Goddess (Neopaganism) may violate Wikipedia policies on the "fair use" of copyrighted images... AnonMoos (talk) 04:14, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This section of the Triple Goddess (Neopaganism) is directly related to Robert Graves and his books on the subject. The book's cover is a natural illustration for this subject. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 22:33, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really not an expert in that area, so you may want to ask somebody who is, but there are very strict rules governing fair use images on Wikipedia. At an absolute minimum, there need to be separate "paperwork" templates on the image description page justifying the use of the image in each article in which it is used. Currently on File:Seven Days in New Crete Cover.jpg, there's a paperwork template for use of the image in the "Seven Days in New Crete", but no template for the use in the "Triple Goddess (Neopaganism)" article. Sooner or later, someone or some bot will come along and flag this discrepancy, after which the image may end up being unceremoniously excised from the "Triple Goddess (Neopaganism)" article... Sources needed for Days of the Year pages[edit]

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the content guideline and the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide. Toddst1 (talk) 13:57, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Sigrid Undset into Catholic Church in Norway. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from page name; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted copied template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:23, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

June 2019[edit]

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did on May 24. This violates Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. As pointed out above, Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details: content guideline and the style guide. June 2019[edit]

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page The Riddle of the Sands, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. DuncanHill (talk) 15:36, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Blanche of King's Lynn. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Karl Sitter".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the db-afc, db-draft, or db-g13 code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Lapablo (talk) 10:11, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Most of your recent editing seems to include adding large amounts of unsourced material, and looking at the warnings on your talk page, this has been an ongoing problem for years. A recent edit you made was reverted because the source you gave doesn't seem to exist. Another seems to exist, but is extremely obscure, and it seems you just copied the text from the from another page. These are very serious concerns, and I think you should address them. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 20:55, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me, you have earlier reverted an edit which I made and wrote there
curprev 16:49, 23 August 2019‎ Deacon Vorbis talk contribs‎ 178,153 bytes -907‎ Reverted good faith edits by Blanche of King's Lynn (talk): Unsourced (TW)
So how do my "good faith edits" suddenly become a reason for such stern warnings?
And I don't see what is wrong with copying relevant text from one Wikipedia page to another, together with the references appearing in the other page. Logically, this seems to me a completely legitimate procedure. If the referecne was OK in the one page, why is it not so in the other one? Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 00:26, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Please indent your replies; see Help:Talk for more info. What text did you copy, and from which page to which? –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 00:29, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I did it very many times in very many pages, and never saw the slightest reason why this should be wrong. You now said "and it seems you just copied the text from the from another page. These are very serious concerns" - why should these be very serious concerns?
It's a concern if you copied the reference without actually using it – that is, to make it appear that the text you added was sourced to this particular reference even if it really wasn't. The other concerns were the addition of an apparently nonexistent source (the one to Harry Potter, which wasn't even reverted by me), as well as the general pattern of adding unsourced material, period. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 00:38, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I was reprimanded for adding unsourced material, so I made an effort to avoid that. But I understand that this is not enough, and I have to take a careful look at the sources - even when they appear in another Wikipedia page and were presumably already checked when they were put there. OK, I will take care to do that, too. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 11:54, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You've just made the same sort of problematic edit to A Modern Utopia that I brought up concerns about with regard to sourcing, despite your insistence that you would be more careful immediately above. Do you understand the issues here? I have no wish to drag this to ANI, but I'm not seeing any willingness to improve. (On a side note, but please use preview when making edits; almost all your edits are followed by multiple minor tweaks. Everyone makes mistakes, but you do this with practically every edit, and you have something like 100 messages from DPL bot about disambig links. This is less important compared to the other stuff, but I still wanted to mention it.) I really hope this doesn't come across as hostile or threatening, but I think there's been a long-term issue here that hasn't really been addressed. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 22:34, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I does definitely come across as hostile or threatening - but I will pay attention. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 05:33, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've raised the issue of your repeatedly adding unsourced text at ANI[edit]

See WP:ANI#Struggling to see why I shouldn't block an editor, at least from article space, that has been adding unsourced text for years. Doug Weller talk 14:30, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can you point out which unsourced text you mean? Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 10:52, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Huh? Have you looked at your contribution list and seen the reverts? Uzzo. Henry VII, Wilhelm II, German Emperor (I see nothing about a PhD in the Prince's article that could be used either). Doug Weller talk 10:26, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is it not a fact that in nearly five centuries since Henry VIII, no English or British Monarch named his or her heir "Henry" and there had been no Henry IX? Until this Henry, English Monarchs used this name eight times. Since then, not once. Do I really need to find a source which says this very obvious fact?Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 08:36, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And "Uzi" is indeed a common name in Israel. Everybody with even a slight knowledge of Israel knows that. Is that not a relevant fact to mention in the page about the name? Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 08:46, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And the British East India Company did use the term "Court of Directors" for what is now called "Board of Directors", it is mentioned in the company's page - that's where I took it from. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 08:49, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When I look at Wikipedia pages, I don't find that each and every sentence has a footnote pointing to a source. Many pages have whole paragraphs which are unsourced, so if that is an unalterable and completely inflexible rule, you should go around deleting all these paragraphs. You would end up deleting at least half the total material in Wikipedia, more likely three quarters of it.Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 08:58, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I now looked up the Ph.D. I did NOT invent it, it is right there on the page of Prince Oscar of Prussia (born 1959). You simply looked up the wrong Prince, Prince Oscar of Prussia. That is the grandfather of the Prince who wrote the Ph. D. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 09:11, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, on the Prince Oscar of Prussia (born 1959) the reference to the Ph.D. is unsourced. Are you going to remove it from there?
But it is not the only unsourced part of this page. Look at this:

Oskar is the second son of Prince Wilhelm-Karl of Prussia and of his wife Armgard von Veltheim (unsourced - remove!). He is a great-grandson of Wilhelm II, the last German Emperor and King of Prussia.(unsourced - remove!) In 1992 Oskar married Auguste Zimmermann von Siefart (born 1962) (unsourced - remove!). They have three children (unsourced - remove!) Prince Oskar Julius Albo Carlos (born 1993) (unsourced - remove!) Princess Wilhelmine (born 1995) (unsourced - remove!) Prince Albert Burchard Carl Marcus Nikolaus (born 1998) (unsourced - remove!) In 1995 Oskar was awarded a Ph.D. in history by the Free University of Berlin for his dissertation about the relationship between the Emperor Wilhelm II and the United States(unsourced - remove!).

He has since made a career as a media manager: he has been managing director of the German branch of Discovery Channel, founder of KiKa, new media manager of Hubert Burda Media Group and radio manager of Holtzbrinck Publishing Group.[1] (This is sourced - can stay.)

In 2017 Oskar was named Patron of the Altmark Festival, a music festival in Saxony-Anhalt.[2] (Also this is sourced and can stay.)

Are you going to do this to all Wikipedia pages? You have a Herculean task ahead of you, and not much will be left of Wikipedia when you finish. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 09:25, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for persistently adding unsourced or poorly sourced content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: .
Your edit to Neuruppin was unreferenced and speculative. If you want to edit Wikipedia, you must comply with Verifiability, a core content policy. Cullen328 (talk) 19:14, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I have looked through the reasons why I have been blocked and understand them, and - much as any person dislikes admitting to mistakes - I accept that that the administrators who blocked me did not do it without a good reason.

In my defense I can say that I did not act wantonly and that the edits which I made seemed to me very reasonable. For example, that if a German Jew had the name Arthur Ruppin that indicated that he had a family connection to the town of Ruppin, or that the fact that English and British Monarchs since the 16th Century refrained from giving their heirs the name "Henry" shows that they disapproved of King Henry VIII. And with the name Uzzi I know from many visits to Israel that it is a common name there, as I personally know two people with that name and know of many others. But on reflection I realize that I did violate Verifiability which is a core content policy, and that there is a very good reason for Wikipedia to insist on it.

So I overcome my pride and humbly ask to be forgiven, I promise if unblocked to be much more careful about this from now on, and am aware that I will be under observation and that a "repeat offence" could lead to my being blocked again - and then it would be much more difficult to get out of it.

I do like Wikipedia very much, I think I did do some good and positive edits and I hope to be given the chance to do it again.Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 10:24, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I would be lying if I said I did not have some concerns about where you will go from here given my observations below, but your replies show that you now understand the concerns that have been raised with your editing and that you're willing to change. As blocks are supposed to be preventative rather than punitive measures, that's sufficient to remove the block. Welcome back. Courtesy ping for Cullen328. Your unblock request goes some way towards showing that you understand what was wrong with your edits but still leaves me with concerns. First and foremost is that you've been making these sorts of edits for years and it's been brought to your attention multiple times that they're a problem. In fact, in August 2019, you were threatened with a block but you insisted that your edits were not problematic and continued to make them. To be clear, you can legitimately state in Wikipedia's voice that there has never been a Henry IX (although it's so obvious as to be the question of why it needs to be stated); what you can't do on Wikipedia is draw your own conclusions. If a reputable historian writes that the lack of an heir named Henry is a tacit comment on Henry VIII, you can state that they have drawn that conclusion (with a citation to the book/journal/etc), but you can't draw it yourself in Wikipedia's voice. My other main concern is that I've sampled your last 200 article edits and they all follow the same pattern of adding information that you "know" without any backing. In fact, I didn't see a single edit where you added a reference to support your additions. Do you understand why verifiability is important, and why Wikipedia articles cannot simply consist of things editors "know"? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:01, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@HJ Mitchell:, just a random passerby here with no previous experience of this editor (saw the ANI post regarding the issues leading to the block) but an interest in retaining her as a contributor who seems to have a good outlook, now that the block has focused her attention on the issues. It seems as if you're looking for nothing more than a cogent response to your inquiry above, and obviously if that turns out to be enough for you to unblock, that's a best case scenario. However, if it still comes down to a close call for you, I'd like to offer to be a short term stop-gap guarantor of her edits: for the next couple of months, I'll periodically review her edits, raise any concerns about WP:V that I find, and if I am not seeing a marked change in behavior on sourcing, I can bring the matter back to your attention or ANI.
That is, assuming Blanche would be comfortable with such a mentoring arrangement: I don't want to insert myself where I am not wanted, especially if she was going to get her privileges back with just a well-worded response: my goal here is not to nominate myself as a probation officer, but rather to build up policy competencies in an editor who I think might have avoided these issues in the first place with more engagement than she received when confronted with past missteps. Pretty much all of the content areas Blanche has shown interest in with her edit history are subjects of interest to me, and which I have some degree of familiarity with, and historically her output has not been huge, so I would be happy to take the time to work with her briefly. I understand very well the situation. I try to be a realistic person in my professional and personal life. It is very clear that I have no option of continuing as I have been doing. This option just does not exist. The two options which I do have is to be very careful about the rules from now on, or to be completely excluded from editing Wikipedia. Of these two options, I without hesitation choose the first. Blanche of King's Lynn (talk) 23:43, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
