Requesting a Biography

Please make sure they're notable, why would anyone else want to know about them? Why do you want to know more about them?

Include what information you can on them. There are many James Smiths in the world, which one are you asking about?

Please include a request date, so that we can more accurately move old requests to the oldest requests page.

If you are requesting an article on a living person, please see Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people and neutral point of view.

If you're filing a new request, please place the request in alphabetical order by the person's last name in the appropriate section or page (if this is the incorrect page). Typically by profession or nationality; or if you don't know the profession, in the unsorted-alphabetical list, above the unorganized/things to do section.

example:

*Jeremiath V. Anonymouse - (req 2008-02-17) - 1st Man to die on Mars?, russian biochemist

Like it or not, she is an established internet figure and the only reason the page to her article has been locked is on account of wholly inflexible admins who are too blinded by strict interpretations of policy to recognize the fact that an article for this person is warranted by sufficient, consistent user demand and interest. There is no question that this model is of interest to wikipedia visitors, as her page was repeatedly recreated. I expect no changes, however, so for you admins who are working against the obvious demand for the article, please enjoy yourselves as you continue to ignore wikipedia's chief rule by enforcing secondary policies in a clearly unreasonable manner.)
  • Nathan Stoltzfus - (req. 2008-04-16) American historian famous for research on Nazi Germany and World War II-era Europe.

How to Fulfill a request

For help on how to write biographies, start with these tips from the Wikipedia Biography Project

If you're looking for any old article to write, please also check oldest un-done biographies before tackling one of these. Of course, if one of these strikes your interest, feel free :D

Or you could go for the most-requested general biographies, jockeys, tennis

Also, add it to new biography articles page, and include a {{bio-stub}} tag if it's just a stub. You can of course, actually sort it yourself, check here or here for links to occupations and nationalities, amongst other things. And {{Hndis}} for human name disambiguation.

Notes
  • If you are writing an article about yourself, please see Wikipedia's policy on autobiographies.

It was her lone determined voice that ultimately gained for the victims and the Salvadoran people official international recognition of the massacre as well as official UN sanctioning of the government of El Salvador for human rights abuse. Unorganized / Things to-do

The lists below were grabbed from other organizational schemes - it appears many of them were intergrated with the alphabetical lists, however not all of them made the transition (see Agnew) - and none of the other locations was redirected here, nor where those old requests deleted from those pages.

These need to be intergrated into the alphabetical list, double-checked, and then the professions need to be checked and broken out into the professions, then the professions not stored on this page need to be moved to their appropriate pages. Work in progress.

If you find a non-person in here, please don't simply delete it, place it at the bottom to be put back into the other request pages, or place it in the correct request page yourself.

Then, work on profession pages - and pull stuff from the bottom of each alphabetical list. Grab links to natural science, biz, mat, social sciences, etc, and make cross-linked and pretty

Link up potential foreign language articles under the appropriate language, then check to see if those articles exist, if they do not, then strike-thru the link, but leave it, so that people can see that you checked for information even if you couldn't translate it.

Add (FirstName LastName) alternatives to all (FirstName MiddleInitial LastName) requests - and then go check those disambig pages, a number of these requests are already done, but under a slightly different name, if we can find them. In the history see Ballard (removed 2008-02-27). Double check that all F M L have periods on the middle initial. Ditto for people with "fun" aliases in their names. Wackhead Simpson was already done, but had either " instead of ' in his article title name.

Anthropologists is still a major mess. A *lot* of potential requests got dumped on us, still working on cleaning up the names with correct spaces, filling in missing punctuation, and the like. Found some articles by filling in the first/last names, and alternative spellings - but so far I'm only to the letter D in adding those links, much less checking them to see if they're going to places that we're interested (re: these requests). And I've left that section in the finished area. Dunno if that's a good idea.

Historical Figures

Correct spelling is Trypho or Tryphon, who can be (or may have been intended to be, as a literary device) identified with Rabbi Tarfon, a Greek-trained philosopher. I'll try putting in a couple of redirect pages. There was a Typho- but that's definitely not this guy.
