Using this page

Use this page to post requests for images that you would like to be used on a Wikipedia article. Others can then upload the image{s). For comments on policies, other users, technology, and other miscellaneous concerns that are not directly related to posting images, use the Wikipedia:Village Pump.

Wikipedia can accept only photographs and pictures that are licensed compatibly with the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) or are in the public domain. A complete guideline of what is acceptable can be found at Wikipedia:Image use policy.

  • The simplest way to ensure that is to make them ourselves and explicitly release them under the GFDL by adding {{GFDL}} to the image description page
  • It is also possible to put your own pictures in the public domain by adding {{PD-release}} to the image page
  • Other copyright options and tags can be found at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.
  • If you're asking someone else for permission to use their image under the GFDL license, see Request for Permission

Posting a request

Before posting, please do the following steps:

  • First try to find an image on your own. For tips, see the Wikipedia:Finding images tutorial
  • Avoid blanket requests, as, for example "need pictures for all people in the Lists of people".
  • Request images only for existing articles, i.e. if there is no article, then please write an article first before requesting.
  • Add the request here if you could not find a picture. Select an appropriate subcategory or add a proper category or subcategory in the alphabetical list.
  • Link to the article for which you would like to have the picture added, and describe what kind of picture you need. Signing the request is optional.
  • Add only one picture request per bullet.

You may also wish to add the image request template, {{reqimage}} to the article's talk page, which would then list the article in Category:Wikipedia requested images.

If you need someone to take this photo for you, maybe one of them can do it in meta:Press_Corps by location. You might also ask an appropriate photographer or graphic artist. Many are willing to take requests.

Fulfilling a request

If you want to contribute an image you have taken yourself, either on film or with a digital camera, please make sure it looks optimal. Consider using graphics software such as the GIMP to enhance saturation, contrast, and sharpness (sample tutorial). You do not need to provide a thumbnail image. Please see Wikipedia:Image use policy for more advice on working with images. You can also contribute pictures not taken by you if they are available under a public domain or GFDL license. Other requested images can also be found by viewing Category:Wikipedia requested images, a page with Template:Reqimage, or by viewing Image:No_image_yet, and add images to articles that link to these pages.

  1. Ensure that the picture is properly licensed as shown in the "Copyright Warning" above
  2. Upload the Image
  3. Add the proper Image copyright tags and a description to the image description page
  4. Link the image to the corresponding article. Larger images should be linked as thumbnails. For a good tutorial see Wikipedia:Picture tutorial
  5. After you add the requested image, remove the request from this page, and the {{Reqimage}} tag from the article.
  6. You can also add your contribution to Wikipedia:Fulfilled picture requests or list it at Wikipedia:List of images.

If the license so permits, please upload the image to Wikimedia Commons[1] instead so that all the different Wikipedias can use the image.

  • Eternals - Needs a group shot of the Eternals main characters (Sersi, Makkari, Ikaris and Thena) and of the Uni-Mind.
  • Fighting American - Preferably a picture of the original 1950s Kirby version, but any modern version (DC Comics or Awesome Ent.) could be used as well.
  • Nomad (comics) - Preferably a picture of his original uniform, or one of the character0s main series.
  • Shade (comics) - Needs two pictures, one of his classic Golden Age look, and another one from the last Starman series.
  • Shade, the Changing Man - A picture by Steve Ditko and a modern one from the Vertigo series.
  • Starman (comics) - Could use some small pictures (headshots may be okay in a few cases) of some of the people to use the name, notably Ted Knight, Mikaal Tomas, Gavyn, Will Payton and Jack Knight.
  • Squadron Supreme - Needs an image, preferably the Alex Ross cover for the graphic novel that reprinted the mini-series.

  • Tea stall - Any enterprising Indian Wikipedian with a digital camera out there?   • Somebody needs to put more images of NES clones on the Famiclones article. Also, they need to make more articles about these individual NES clones.   • Argyle diamond mine could really use a photo of a pink diamond (come on, I know you all have a few sitting around waiting to be photographed :) ). History

  • Trail of Tears. The most famous related image is "Trail of Tears", painted by Robert Lindneux in 1942 and found all over the Internet, such as: [4]. The artist died in 1970 ([5]); I don't know if we can use this image, but it would be nice. Another iconic image often associated with the Trail of Tears is the 1915 statue "The End of the Trail" by James Fraser. [6] That would be another nice addition to the article, if a public domain image is available. --Kevin Myers 17:21, Feb 17, 2005 (UTC)

  • Tall bike. In the late 1800s, very tall bicycles were used by lamp lighters to light gas lamps. I know I've seen an old photograph of this, but I cannot find it.   • Better-quality diagrams of tanks in hull-down and turret-down positions, to replace Hull-down tank and Sky-lined tank. There are a few other diagrams and photos out there on the web, but none as good as these. An important feature of first is naturally-sloped ground, rather than artificial-looking stepped slopes or berms like in this diagram. It would be even better if it showed the forward slope a little more, including a sight-line aligned with the crest of ground in front of the tank. Note that an M1 Abrams or Leopard tank has a maximum gun depression of -9°. Double your wikilove if you add a dotted outline of a T-72 or T-64 partly exposed further forward on the slope, with its gun at maximum depression of -5°.—Michael Z. 2005-06-24 06:31 Z

U.S. State Capitals

Help out with the wikipedia U.S. State capital pages. We need photos of the city (ie. skyline) and a photo of the capitol building. The table list below lists the state capitals with missing images and what photos are needed. Upload your photos and update the table. (user:Redjar)
