I found your story of Lydia Longley very interesting. I am a descendent of this lineage. My grandmother, born in 1900, is the daughter of William Longley,Jr. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CC97:4490:7C05:625B:CA0B:2AB6 (talk) 01:02, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Jon Hinck
I'm a relatively new editor and not clear on the format for justification of edits. Let me know if there is a better way to handle this.
Jon Hinck's wife works for Verrill Dana, and it is true that this firm represents Transcanada in some actions. However, the Web site cited in this connection does not mention that fact, and the suggestion that Verrill Dana has some connection with the Keystone pipeline is tendentious. I contacted Hinck and was told Browne "some legal work in Maine for Waste Managment, Inc. in connection with the solid waste busines and Transcanada in connection w/ windpower. She has nothing to do with the Keystone Pipeline (although Transcada [sic] is the developer of that)."
I have to say that I am concerned about the motivations of this and some other edits (eg "currently married") to the Jon Hinck article.

Like I said, you arent going to find sources with the accent, because the sources (ESPN, MLB.com, Baseballreference.com, etc) don't use the accents for anybody. See Bartolo Colón, Roman Colón, or any of the people on the Colón article, the accent is correct.--Yankees10 20:13, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

The article Maher Udda has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. You were right with your critique in march. I fell over the article later, when it had developed further. After adding basics, I will add to the racism aspects of sub-topics now. I seek someone to clean up the remnants of my german grammar, and help me to avoid bias. Your short commentary told me, you are concious about the subject. So it would be a honour, if occasionally you have a look and leave a feedback for me.--fluss (talk) 10:26, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

We edit conflicted. I restored your improper citation removal and left your grammar changes. I present three refs for a point that they were ranked much of the season. I don't see how you can make this point with a single reference.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:37, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- There are far, far, far too many references in the Jabari Parker article. Compare Park to Paul Pierce: 43 in-line citations for a high school basketball player (several of which do not directly relate to Parker, but to his teammate or team) compared to 31 for a NBA finals MVP with a dozen or so years playing at the highest possible level. The incredible number of references for Parker is harmful to the article and distracting. Having three references to show his team was highly ranked or that his teammates are also strong players does not make the article better.--TM 06:42, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- I'm going to copy the debate to Talk:Jabari Parker and continue there.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:59, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Peter Cipriano
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Peter Cipriano requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. — JL 09 talkcontribs 01:56, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Synagogue deletions
Hi Namiba, All your synagogue deletions are undoubtedly in the utmost good faith, but I would throw in a proposal to delete a mosque or church lest someone get the wrong impression of your intentions. Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 17:22, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
- Before you accuse me of antisemitism (an overused trope no doubt for exceedingly pro-Israel/pro-Zionist/pro-Jewish editors (which I am sure you or others would never be considered), you should actually know what you are talking about. Of course, that might require some research, where you would see that I started Etz Chaim Synagogue. Can you tell the difference between that synagogue article and the ones I nominated for deletion? It has multiple, independent, non-trivial sources as opposed to the ones you claim are notable because they are old. If the synagogues in question actually contained a claim to notability or multiple independent sources, I would never have touched them. Just as I would never have nominated the hundreds of other articles I have nominated for deletion over the nearly 6 years editing Wikipedia.--TM 19:31, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Namiba/TM: How would you define "exceedingly pro-Israel/pro-Zionist/pro-Jewish editors"? -- I am curious to know your criteria for this as it would apply to WP editing. Another point, it's surely bad form to nominate an article about a synagogue (a Jewish house of worship) for "deletion" during the seasons of both Hanukkah (now in its sixth day) or on Christmas Eve for obvious reasons. The festival of Hanukkah celebrates the victory of the Jews over the Greeks who fought to wipe out the original Jewish Temple while Christmas is a time when some Christians resent the fact that Judaism rejects the Christian savior and it therefore creates ill-will when this should be the season of holiday good-will to all men. Think it over, you chose a poor time for your AfD. WP does not require editors to rid themselves of good old fashioned common sense. Thanks a lot! IZAK (talk) 16:40, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- If we stopped trying to improve Wikipedia during every holiday season, we would literally never improve Wikipedia. My interest is not in some editors ultra-cultural sensitivity and over-protection of articles with questionable notability that some identify with, but the overall betterment of Wikipedia. I am not going to engage in a fruitless discussion about why certain editors will simply not let an article related to their favorite culture be deleted or how certain editors pounce to support nonsensical claims to notability which they would never support if it were outside of their preferred cultural ideas or politics. Good luck battling and moralizing elsewhere, I have no interest in it.--TM 16:46, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Since you feel so strongly about "good old fashioned common sense" and "bad form", you will surely be disgusted that Category:Kwanzaa was nominated for deletion right before the Kwanzaa celebration. I hope you will go bother other editors about this clear, egregious attack on the Kwanzaa celebration and lack of "good old fashion common sense", right? You aren't just bothering me because I found a few articles on seemingly non-notable religious buildings you favor, right?--TM 16:54, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Canvassing
Thank you for the notification about this, but I disagree. All that I said to these users was that there were a couple of shopping mall articles in AfD. Saying they are not notable is precise, because they are just that, not notable, meaning it was in a neutral point of view. And I have provided evidence on the AfDs to prove this. At WP:CANVASS, vote-stacking is defined as posting messages to users selected based on their known opinions. That doesn't apply to this situation though, as I have disagreed with a user I notified on a shopping mall they listed at AfD. If I said something along the lines of "here are some shopping mall AfDs, please vote delete", it would be different, but that wasn't the case. Till I Go Home (talk) 00:11, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Do they have any long lasting cultural value, or are they short term cruft only really useful or interesting to fans of that team at that time?--TM 01:36, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well, considering it's in a section regarding fan support, I think it warrants inclusion. Plus, it's not something that King just created and only used once. He uses it often, including off the air. You'll find plenty of tweets on his verified Twitter account that reference it. --Kevin W./Talk•CFB uniforms/Talk 02:45, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, but 1) can you cite it independently of King? If it is used widely, I think it can be included, but nicknames come and go. What one person tweets about a player is really unimportant when you consider that this is an encyclopedia, not a fan site.--TM 03:18, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Ugonna Onyekwe
Namiba, I hope there are no hard feelings about Mark Socoby - I just felt it didn't deserve to be on Wikipedia. Obviously you felt differently, which is why we had a difference of opinion about it. You do great work on here and I don't want to "make an enemy" with you (let's be honest - on Wikipedia, any quasi-regular editors eventually make "friends" and "enemies" on here, it's just kind of how it goes).
That being said, there is an article that needs to be created of an African basketball player who definitely meets notability standards. Ugonna Onyekwe, who played college basketball at Penn between 1999 and 2003, was the Ivy League Men's Basketball Player of the Year two times - 2002 and 2003. He was a legitimate NBA prospect but was never selected. He then embarked on an international professional career that lasted, from what I can tell, up until ~2008.
- List of articles he appears on
- Other sources I've found: NBA Draft profile, LinkedIn account, EuroBasket, sports-reference college stats, allAfrica article (requires subscription), The Daily Pennsylvanian, Philly.com.
At this discussion for WP:CBBALL, he is one of the players mentioned that is needed as a two-time conference player of the year. I know that you're big on Africa articles as well as basketball ones, so this seems like a perfect fit for you. Would you be interested in creating it? I'm trying to reach out to editors who I know have particular interests to get some of these players' articles created. Jrcla2 (talk) 20:26, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- I can take a look and work on it, but what really bothered me about the Mark Socoby discussion was not that the article was deleted (wrongly, I still believe and primarily because of the stated bias against mid-major players), but that someone would attack my credibility and reason. I've been editing on Wikipedia for close to six years and seen ups and downs. Few editors have created the amount of articles I have. For most articles I have created, I've had to go deep into sources, search for topics which are not well covered by major news sources in the western world. What bothered me was that you would find it hard to believe that I could objectively edit and that my opinion should be discounted because I have made so many articles about Maine-related topics. In fact, would it not be quite the opposite? That perhaps I have a strong understanding of the rules and of Maine-related topics? Nevermind the hundreds of articles on Sao Tome and Principean politicians, Namibian military generals, bilateral relations articles for Central Africa or dozen or so articles on Islam in African countries. I did not appreciate your comments impugning my reliability as an editor. So yes, I will see what I can do, but be more cafeful and thoughtful than trying to devalue the editing of other experienced volunteers to Wikipedia.--TM 23:22, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

First of all, words in a message don't always have the tone which they are intended. I want to mention that I appreciate what you are doing to preserve the integrity of Wikipedia and its content. Please tell me what your objections are and what I can do to meet them so that the statement regarding Slavick's comments can appear in the record.
Originally when I posted the following:
Mr. Slavick has organized several protests in Portland's Monument Square that blame Israel for the plight of the Palestinians including one on the 40th anniversary of the Six Day War. In a commercial he ran during his campaign for US Senate he referred to what the Israeli's did in defending themselves in the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War as ethnic cleansing the Palestinians.
You objected because you wanted a source, you wanted it cited etc. I tried to meet all of those requirements.
Here is my backstory, if it matters.
I worked as the production director for 11 radio stations in Maine. Bill Slavick advertised with us for Maine Vets for Peace and also for his election campaign. In late May of 2007 he came in to record a commercial about the plight of the Palestinians as the 40th anniversary of the 6-Day War approached. He was organizing a protest in Monument Sq. He did this sort of thing regularly.
We had a conversation. I told him that I felt his language was a bit strong. That the sad fact was that the Palestinians were mistreated by the Arab world in a way that Irish immigrants were treated by Whites in the second half of the 19th century. He agreed.
I have read his wikipedia page and I think it is important that what he said is part of his biographical record. If you need me to present the information differently, I will.
The bottom line is that the statement is true. Its backed up with a recording of Bill Slavick, in his own words, with his own voice, unedited, an excerpt from an advertisement that he wrote and recorded in my presence.
Please let me know what your objections are and how I can meet them.
Thanks!

I have undone your reversion at Alexander Cornell du Houx. Your reversion does not address concerns of undue weight. Furthermore, content in dispute such as this must remain out until a consensus is reached to include it (see WP:BLP). A discussion is currently ongoing at WP:BLPN — I encourage you to participate there instead of reverting undue weight. Finally, your reversion of all my edits there, not limited to trimming down prose but also including maintenance on reference tags (refname replacements) is not exactly a showing of good faith in this process. Spelling Errors
Hi User:Namiba, I was browsing through the category for Namibian politicians and I noticed that you created the article Johannes Nakwalifa , however I want to bring it to your attention that it is spelled wrong...It should read as Johannes Nakwafila[1], If you have time , can you also help change Max Nekongo to Marx Nekongo (reason I am asking your help is cos I don't know how). Thank you . P.S: Thumbs up, you have created quite a number of Namibian articles, keep it up. User:Elianamwiha(talk) Elianamwiha 22:18, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

In response to Nabmia, I do not understand why you are deleting the significant contributions to this page. First, this political candidate's loss was, in fact, overwhelming to his opponent. Husley received about 75% of the vote. Almost every election during that cycle was at least within the 55-45% or 60-40% range. 75% in a general election is exceptional.
Second, this political candidate's current activities have been criticized by members of the District in which he is serving as a campaign manager. The local political source cited is a respected local media outlet that has been in publication for several years.
Third, this page was created by the candidate's own political team. That is not ethical.
In summary: this Wikipedia page starts to reflect propaganda over genuine knowledge when you start deleting substantive edits as reflected above. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.47.117.233 (talk) 00:13, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Oklahoma City Red Hawks
I noticed that you have been putting the OK City team into the lead para of several baseball players, like Brett Wallace. Although this seems to be a good idea, it is not the Wiki standard. For example, I follow the Blue Jays closely, and none of their minor league players have the minor league team in the lead paragraph. Cpfan776 (talk) 00:33, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

The biggest issue I have with this is that you're putting in the AAA team and removing the MLB affiliate. They're signed to the MLB team, and assigned to the minor league team the organization has an agreement with. We can't be saying that Terry Doyle plays for the Pawtucket Red Sox without acknowledging the Boston Red Sox. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:12, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- So perhaps we should go with another variation I've included: "Ryan Cole Lavarnway (born August 7, 1987) is an American professional baseball catcher with the Pawtucket Red Sox of the International League, Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox." What do you think?--TM 17:36, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- That may work as a compromise. The infobox needs to remain the MLB franchise though. That's who they've signed with. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:39, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- That's probably a good idea. Glad a compromise could be worked out.--TM 17:40, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

I just wanted to check why you moved the page for this hotel back to the former name of Eastland Park Hotel. The hotel no longer operates under that name. Robert Sands
The fact that he appeared in an NFL game and therfore passes WP:NGRIDIRON doesn't mean he automatically passes WP:GNG. The whole article basically says "Here is Robert Sands. He played college football, then played one game in the NFL. He was then released." It gives one reference, which is about a 40-word brief saying he entered the NFL Draft. As the article sits, it falls far short of WP:GNG which requires much more than is currently present. An article can pass WP:NGRIDIRON and still fall short of the necessary notability to have a standalone article. Luchuslu (talk) 19:27, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that on 7 January 2012 you removed the Category:African-American basketball players from Gilbert Arenas and it has not been replaced since. I am curious if you know something about Arenas' ethnicity that others do not, but I am tempted to re-add the category to that page.Hoops gza (talk) 01:12, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- There is a tendency among Wikipedia editors to include categories on ethnicity which are completely unsubstantiated by sources. I am not sure, but Gilbert Arenas' article at the time was probably in this category. If you have sources as to his ethnicity, by all means cite it in the article and re-add the category if it is applicable. If you cannot find sources, please do not add ANY ethnicity category.--TM 02:37, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Eastland Park Hotel
I plan to move this page to the hotel's current name in about two weeks when it opens as The Westin Portland Harborview. I wanted to be sure you no longer have an objection. I know you were not pleased when I moved it over the summer, and I understand as it had not yet begun operating under its new name. However after it opens in about two weeks, it will make sense to have the page at that location, as the old name, "Eastland Park Hotel", was only used for 11 years of the hotel's 86 year history, and it has changed names so many times that there is not one name under which it is generally known. Having the page under the current name makes the most sense, especially as the building has been entirely gutted and rebuilt on the inside. jamesluckard (talk) 22:36, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Please accept my apologies for the delay in my response to you. I mistakenly thought that I had already responded. If you would like, I am willing to restore Land reform in Zambia as a draft or page within your userspace for continued development; however, given that it had only one paragraph that did not even mention Zambia, it was a legitimate candidate for deletion. African-American ethnicity categories
This is ridiculous that you keep reverting my edits on African-American articles. You will never be able to find cited material that the person is African-American for probably even 10% of the people on here who are
- 1. of American nationality
- 2. have some African blood in them
because of the history of Slavery in the United States. Ergo, a lot of people don't know where they came from. By the way, nice whoopie pie.Hoops gza (talk) 18:22, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you, I do enjoy whoopie pies. However, if you cannot find a source, don't include the category. Isn't that the basis of Wikipedia? If it isn't possible to cite it, we shouldn't include it.--TM 18:29, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
I feel that we make an exception to the rule when it come to this particular subject.Hoops gza (talk) 19:00, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- Where is that exception written out in policy? I've had this conversation several times and in the end, people agree with this point: unless you have a source that says it is true, do not add a category. It's a BIO and BLP issue.--TM 19:17, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

The article Mobolaji Akiode has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Biography lacking any independent sources since creation. This is a perennial problem with "completism" - while it might be theoretically desirable to have an article on everybody who competes in a Games, it is likely that many of them will have no significant biographical sources especially if they are not from Western countries with a culture of sports worship.

Question about synagogue AfDs
Hi there Namiba. Is there any particular reason you have chosen to nominate for "deletion" not one, but two synagogues located in Baltimore at this time? (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Congregation Tiferes Yisroel (2nd nomination) & Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Congregation Arugas Habosem.) You could have asked for some WP:EXPERT input at WP:TALKJUDAISM prior to making these moves, it would have helped arrive at WP:CONSENSUS before inviting any uncalled for questions. Thanks, IZAK (talk) 21:28, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
- I chose to nominate those articles for deletion because they did not seem to meet the guidelines for notability.--TM 02:26, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
RfC
An RfC that concerns you has been opened. Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Judaism#RfC: Should there be mass AfDs of articles about Orthodox synagogues?. Quite frankly this is not the best time to start a move to delete any synagogue articles given that the current Israel-Gaza conflict is now so hot that it is spilling over into attacks on synagogues in France, see Protesters scuffle with police at Paris synagogues (AP, July 13, 2014), and the problem is growing, so it behooves any editor undertaking such deletions to proceed with great care in order to avoid any semblance of impropriety until the temperature surrounding the role and place of synagogues as current flashpoints of conflict stops. Thank you, IZAK (talk) 04:22, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I see you created this recently and have started populating it (and Category:Tombs by country has existed for a couple years). But I'm having a hard time figuring out what qualifies something as a "tomb", as it seems that inclusion is just based on what the gravesite is called rather than any substantive difference. Tomb also says the term is used for a broad range of burial site types. Thoughts? postdlf (talk) 18:14, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I don't mind at all this redirect being turned back into an article, even though anyone doing so should make sure the article complies with WP:N and WP:RS (else it might end up getting deleted again). I do however take exception to the reverting of a 4-year-old change -- that's just not good wiki-etiquette. You had the option of starting a new article without reverting. By the way, the subject is a Facebook friend of mine, so I won't be editing in this article to improve it; I hope that you will do that now that you have essentially adopted it. :) Have a nice weekend. Hi. I just thought I'd point out that not only is 'redirect' anchored in policy as an alternative to deletion, but while OUTCOMES may be an essay 'page', it is one that does not express any opinion; it merely REPORTS - quite accurately - on well established and recognised practice. Hope this helps. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:54, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:People from Naples, Maine
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Category:People from Naples, Maine, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. ...William 13:20, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

The article Angula da Costa has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Places in Aroostook County
I noticed that you undid my revision to the Aroostook County page. The reason why I made that revision was to keep the page consistent, as towns and townships are generally considered to be different things in Maine, and thus they should have different categories. If you think townships should be included, then you'll need to add many more, as there are many in Aroostook County that are not on the list. However, I recommend that my revision should stand and that townships should be removed from the list. What do you think?

Dormitories
Hello, I noticed your edits to User talk:Ktr101. Do you not think that 32 deletion notices in the space of 12 minutes was a bit excessive? It's usually better to PROD one article as a test case and then revisit the rest if the first ends up being deleted, and even if you do feel the need to nominate multiple articles in one go, there's no need to template the same editor multiple times—a hand-written list of the articles you've nominated will suffice. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:54, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- Going off of what HJ said, 5 SD and 27 PROD notifications in such a short span of time is not only disruptive to the editor who now has to defend all of these articles, but it now means that I have to spend a lot more time than I wanted to on Wikipedia to defend each and every one of these articles. I know you might not have meant it in mean spirit, but I also trust that you know better since you have been on far longer than I have. Besides, I also see that you templated many (if not all) of these articles in July. Just because people haven't improved them in fives months does not mean that they all need to be deleted now. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 22:20, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- Please pardon my breach of wikietiquette. I've nominated George Washington Tower as a test case. Feel free to comment and improve the article.--TM 22:56, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- That works for me, as long as we can find common ground on this. If it looks like it will be merged, then I will act accordingly on all of the other articles. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 21:30, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
I don't want to bring this up again, but four more notifications in two minutes concern me as I don't think you got the last message. Granted, it's not 32 notifications, but could you please not mass-notify someone like this and maybe even try to discuss this? I would be happy to not have to go on Wikipedia and find out that a lot of my articles are now up for deletion, as behavior like this is what drives new editors away, as well as people who have been here for years. The day you first mass-tagged those articles, I woke up to an overwhelming number of tags and saw a bunch of them deleted right after because I wasn't going to defend each and every article even though we could have merged all of them without unnecessary PROD notifications. I'm going to remove the tags if you don't mind, and go ahead and merge them in the near future, but only because I don't want to have to go and ask an administrator to undelete a ton of pages. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 22:12, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hello again, as mentioned before, if you feel the need to PROD multiple article in quick succession, a hand-written list of the PRODded articles is infinitely preferable to multiple deletion notices. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:35, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

"women farmers"
Just a FWIW, I re-added the category "American farmers" where you added "American woman farmers" to several articles. The reason for this is due to a major concern raised a few months back that women moved into their own category, absent an equivalent "male" category, is "Ghettoizing" women (this came about in the writers categories initially). Basically, absent fully diffused "male" and "female" (or men/women) categories, the main category needs to remain non-diffusing for both men and women. Hope that clarifies matters of you. Thanks. Montanabw(talk) 04:28, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
- Can you point me to that discussion? I do not agree with the notion that we should not diffuse the categories. It makes no sense, really. I am in the process of sorting all articles in American farmers into their state-level category. Why should African-American and women farmers be the only ones left in?--TM 12:17, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
- If your intent is to FULLY diffuse the American Farmer category so it is EMPTY save for all subcats, then I'd be OK with that. But at the time you did this, there were no women left in the main category, it was all male, which is the "ghettoization" of women that raised a pretty nasty stink on WP a few months back in the writer categories due to the article in the New York Times. ([ http://www.nybooks.com/blogs/nyrblog/2013/apr/29/wikipedia-women-problem/ see also here]). See what was done with Category:Women_writers, Category:American_writers and Category:Writers. If you have a "women" category, then you either need a "men" category, or keep the women in both the main category AND the subcat. And yes, African-American people too... racism and sexism have no place on wikipedia, even if unintentional. An example of a non-diffusing page is Category:Horse breeds Montanabw(talk) 21:29, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
- Those articles are all already in state-level categories, which are subcategories of the main farmers category. There is nothing sexist and or racist about this. Try not to blow it out of proportion.--TM 00:45, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
- If you differentiate based on something, you're making just that distinction. In the case of race or sex, it's racism or sexism. Whether that's important here, I'd prefer not to say, but I suspect it is. Either differentiate equally, or don't do it at all. It generally bothers me to hear of "first X to do Y", as that makes X out to be important. It gets back to the saying about the dancing bear. Are we saying that it's amazing that X can do Y? Or do we expect it? I suspect you'll get a difference of opinion on this from different people. For instance, where X is (woman) and Y is... pretty much anything (fly in Shuttle, sail a ship, be US President, inseminate another woman, design a bridge, whatever). Some women will feel it's important, some won't. Ditto for men. - Denimadept (talk) 02:09, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
- I honestly have no idea what you are trying to say. Can you explain what you mean in a different way?--TM 02:16, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
- Well, I could sort the words I used. Okay. To separate out a particular group is to pay attention to it, to say it's something special. The distinction Montanabw (talk · contribs) was making makes much of women farmers. The thing is, like women writers and women astronauts, to pick them out as something special implies that it's bizarre or somehow like the dancing bear, that they do it at all, rather than how well they do it. That they're women shouldn't be taken as special, and it shouldn't be unusual. But there will be some women who agree with me, and others who take it as inspirational, so I'd like the category to not be needed, even if some would like it there. Call me an idealist. - Denimadept (talk) 03:13, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

- Denimadept basically explains the concept - if we differentiate, then differentiate everyone or no one. If we really feel it is important to distinguish women, then also distinguish men. the guidelines for categories also allow for "container" categories (that have no articles, only subcats) and "non-diffusing" categories (where articles may be in both that category and in subcategories, this is particularly good for the "foo people by state" because it's a huge pain in the ass to sort through 50 categories with three people in them to find that foo person whose name you can't quite spell - or whatever. Bottom line: If you have a "female foo" category, then you need a separate "male foo" category. If you look at Category:American farmers, is clearly it not diffused into "male" and "female" (or men/women, which is preferred) categories - there are 220 articles listed there, the overwhelming majority are men. Remove the women but not the men and the women become the "dancing bear." Diffuse everyone, then I have no issue. This was clearly decided with the women writers flap and I really don't want to take this to the "drama boards" where it will blow up into an enormous shitstorm, but if you keep reverting these I will have to. Montanabw(talk) 05:01, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Some examples of these near-fully disseminated categories with both male and female subcats: Category:American_writers (not fully diffused, but they have a couple thousand articles todo) Category:American_composers, Category:American classical composers, Montanabw(talk) 08:51, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- I am in the process of fully diffusing American farmers into American farms by state. Women who farm have a very long and varied history and there is significant coverage of the topic. I will continue to sort the category, including by ethnicity and gender where appropriate. When I am done, American farmers will have few if any remaining categories. If you haven't noticed, I've already sorted over 100 farmer pages into their appropriate state-level categories. It would be very helpful if you did the same instead of trying to fight over the non-issue of diffusion.--TM 01:18, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Until there is also a "male Farmers" category, if you remove all the women, you are ghettoizing them. Editors ome and go, their work is forever. Frankly, there are some categories that should remain non-diffusing. Try figuring out if a farmer who moved three or four times is "from" any one state. It's a pain. People from categories
The "occupation" from place categories do not where people actually did their occupation. Instead, it is a simple diffusion in that their occupation was/is politician, and then from a specific locale, so you move then to the subcategory. This is why they are "from" and not "of". As in, if it was Sportspeople/Poltician/Writer of XXXX, then there would need to be the connection you suggest. But instead, it is "from". Aboutmovies (talk) 22:54, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
- I believe that the politicians category should be different, as you practice politics in a certain place, i.e. as an elected official of a certain town or state. Ben Chipman was born in Brunswick, but his connection and occupation is through Portland. Putting him in Category:Politicians from Brunswick, Maine is confusing and unneeded.TM 12:38, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

Amir Johnson
Hello. I recently undid your edit on Amir Johnson's page. The reason behind this was to keep the flow and consistency between other NBA players leading sentences. See Brandon Bass, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, etc. Thank you. --RichieConant34 21:22, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, I think the introductions work best with the position included, as per other sports biographies.--TM 23:52, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
- All NBA players have "professional basketball player". That is the structure here on Wikipedia. Just because someone thinks their way is right, doesn't mean that is the way it should be. As was said previously, it should be consistent throughout all NBA players. Miamiheat631 (talk) 00:04, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
- I agree that leads are enhanced when the player's position is mentioned. However, I would leave it out of the first sentence. I suggest following the principles of WP:LEADSENTENCE: "... the first sentence should give a concise definition: where possible, one that puts the article in context for the nonspecialist." In that spirit, don't assume a reader knows whether a given position in basketball is related to a player, coach, or executive. Therefore, I suggest that the opening sentence explicitly state the person's role (e.g. player, coach, etc) and before getting into specific positions in a subsequent sentence.—Bagumba (talk) 00:08, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Amputees and War Wounded Association
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Amputees and War Wounded Association requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Per this discussion[1] which you took part in you should know that death or burial somewhere does not constitute someone being from someplace. If so, John F Kennedy would be from Dallas Texas and the notable 9-11 victims whose planes were crashed into the World Trade Center would be from New York City, and people buried in Arlington National Cemetery from Arlington, Virginia. That's silly.

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Lakes of Maine
You seem to have a problem accepting a category structure that places Lakes of Maine at both the state and county level. Please explain yourself in terms of the normal use of categories in WP, which specifically accepts the use of All Included category structures. Hmains (talk) 17:38, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
- I don't believe that the Category:Lakes of Maine or of any other state should be all included. It is category clutter when they're already in a subcategory, like Category:Lakes of Washington County, Maine.--TM 17:40, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
- WP categories serve the purpose of providing easy-to-use access to related articles. Having one category for all lakes of a state satisfies this need. A reader should not have to know ahead of time the county (of which there can be dozens or hundreds) in which the lake exists. Not when looking at the state level. On the other hand, for other users interested in county level information, the county level structures (of which only a few exist; there are generally not enough lakes in counties of many states to justify such categories) are useful for them. Having one additional category Category:Lakes of Maine in an article is not seriously 'category clutter'. Thanks Hmains (talk) 18:03, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
- Any further comment? Hmains (talk) 03:43, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Articles for deletion Ken Giami
Articles for deletion Ken Giami
Hello Namiba I saw your profile on the list of wikipedians. It says you are interested in Africa and have made more than 77,000 contributions to wikipedia.
Please I need your help, I started an article on Ken Giami and it has been nominated for deletion on grounds of notability ... Ken Giami From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia [2]
The notability criteria clearly states as I read, that People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published[4] secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other,[5] and independent of the subject.[6][3]
I have provided sources of reference that fulfill the above criteria for notability.
The guidelines also states that If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources may not be sufficient to establish notability.[7][4]
I have also provided multiple independent sources and the page has been edited by other users with references added.
I would like to know the next step for getting the article off the deletion nomination list. There is a talk page on the article [5]
Please I need your guidance on moving to the next stage of getting the article listed

I can indeed. Many of the parties, in the articles, fail to show how they are notable, and if they do, they don't back it up with an in-line citation. Me-123567-Me (talk) 00:37, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
