User:Mliu92/sandbox/Prize Bridge Award

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prize Bridge Award is presented by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), who created the Prize Bridge Competition in 1928 to periodically recognize notable steel bridges as selected by a jury. The Sixth Street Bridge in Pittsburgh was the first recipient of the award, selected for its aesthetics and engineering innovations. Over time, the Competition has expanded to encompass multiple categories, typically defined by bridge size and function, and the emphasis has shifted from emphasizing aesthetics to celebrating designs and innovations, as recent juries have been formed mainly from distinguished engineers.[1]

Currently, the Award is presented through the National Steel Bridge Alliance, a subgroup of AISC, every two years. To be eligible for the Competition, the bridge must have been completed and opened to traffic within a defined time period (typically starting from the end of the prior Competition), be located in the United States (including the District of Columbia and U.S. territories), and built using structural steel fabricated in North America.[2]
