The iPhone 3G is the second generation of the iPhone. Superseding the original iPhone, iPhone 3G combines the old iPhone features with new ones. The device boasts new features including high speed 3G internet, GPS capabilities, a new shiny, curved, black (or white) sleek plastic back, flushed headset jack input and new metal buttons. All for a lower price than the original iPhone.

Apple has made a few changes to what they did with the original iPhone as well as the new iPhone 3G itself. They changed the price of the handset due to a survey performed which suggested that the phone was not affordable enough. The original iPhone itself had initially cost $499 for a 4GB model which discontinued later on. They changed how customers would be able to buy the new handset when with the original iPhone, people would just buy the handset in-store and then at home not activating it but alternatively instead, choosing to unlock the handset to their preffered network carrier. Now they require customers to activate their phones in-store so that in the end, customers would have to pay for the monthly contracts.
