On 31 August 2023, a fire engulfed a building in Johannesburg, South Africa, killing at least 73 people and injuring 52 others.[2][3][4][5]
The fire occurred at a five-story abandoned building at the corner of Delvers and Albert Streets that was being used as informal housing.[6]
