Revision as of 09:09, 25 March 2014

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

full protection: Non-notable fictional character, IP and user reverting my edit without providing a significant source, this article have only two sources, which is failed to claim notability. So protect this page as redirect. ChanderForYou 07:31, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The subject of this bio was involved in a legal matter which was kept off the article per WP:BLPCRIME until reliable sources reported the outcome, which they have now done. Apparently not acceptable to several IPs who continue to revert the sourced material. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 06:08, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent edit warring by IPs. - Shehanw (talk) 05:53, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Closed AfD defaced into an WP:ATTACK page. Stuartyeates (talk) 05:38, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. It's one edit, not enough to semi a page for. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 06:05, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent edit warring by IPs, some of which are making various personal attacks against Cowan in the comments section. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:15, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 09:04, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Being vandalized to include "Nazi Germany" in the list of countries for some reason. Also reported via OTRS. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 03:53, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary or indefinite semi-protection Constant IP vandalism. Joefromrandb (talk) 04:01, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    • I would second the indefinite semi-protection request as the article has a long, long history of constant protections against vandalism. I would wager that this will probably be a persistently vandalized page as long as it is present on Wikipedia. He's no longer living, but he's so infamous that this will probably be vandalized for years to come. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:26, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Protection needed User Riessgo is persistently inserting OR, removing sourced content, ignoring talk page comments of others. Riessgo has (self-)published a book which contains fringe theories he is attempting to insert in this article. He has a long history of this behavior and has not responded to numerous requests to stop. SPECIFICO talk 03:11, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined This one will need to go to WP:ANI as it's a complicated issue which will need to be discussed. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 09:09, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Two month Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ongoing multiple anon IP vandalism, introducing unsourced information. Most are well meaning but need to be removed almost daily. ☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 03:02, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I don't see a reason to semi it for 2 months at this stage. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 09:00, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 03:00, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

3 week semi-protection: Repetitive vandalism and "waifu" nonsense: [1] [2] [3]. Subject of the article is currently trending in the news, and the page gets 60,000 daily views, which is double the daily viewer rate of articles such as India. --benlisquareTCE 00:31, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Over the past few days, a couple of anon IPs continually revert to add "Religion: Jewish" to the infobox though the subject's religion has no bearing on his particular notability, and in violation of WP:BLPCAT: "[Infobox c]ategories regarding religious beliefs or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their public life or notability, according to reliable published sources." --Tenebrae (talk) 22:13, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The only IP that has made edits to the page this month has now been properly warned. If they return to the page, a block will be in order. Gloss • talk 14:17, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Declined per the above comment. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 08:44, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite pending changes: BLP policy violations – There have been two issues here. One, a section on pornography continues to be removed by IP addresses despite there being sources. Two there has also been persistent vandalism or promotionalism from SPA accounts, see here 1, 2, and additions of promotionalism here 3. Pending changes may dissuade individuals from breaking BLP policy quite so often. Jeremy112233 (talk) 13:44, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of two months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Let's see how 2 months of PC goes first. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 08:37, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Article is very well developed and sourced. We also have several precedents for this kind of articles: Google search. The confusion strives on the article's title. It should be Political status of Crimea and Sevastopol since both territories are disputed but the dispute is based on the same argument (so there's no point in having one article for each). There are a few related articles but they intrinsically and fundamentally cover different subjects. For example:

    Precedents for this includes:

..and so on as demonstrated by the Google search linked above.

We contacted the admin, as you can see at, User talk:Dpmuk#Political status of Crimea, but he preferred to bring the discussion to WP:ANI rather than here.

I hereby formally request the article's unprotection through the proper channel (this page) per the arguments presented before.

No point to keep this template protected. 116.48.155.127 (talk) 17:37, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Please ask the protecting admin first. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 06:03, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
