Plot

This is a romantic soap opera about two different people and how their lives are linked by their daughter at start and finally how they fall in love with each other madly.

Tamil dentist Ishita lyer (Divyanka Tripathi) and Punjabi businessman Raman Kumar Bhalla (Karan Patel) live in Delhi with their parents. Ishita, who is infertile, forms a motherly bond with Raman's troubled little daughter, Ruhi (Ruhanika Dhawan). To prevent Raman's ill-intentioned ex-wife, Shagun (Anita Hassanandani), from taking custody of the girl, Ishita and Raman get married and develop a deep bond.

Ashok (Sangram Singh) Raman's former boss and Shagun's boyfriend, orchestrates a plot to defame Ishita's cousin, Mihika (Mihika Verma) and make her his wife. Cast aside, Shagun seeks refuge for herself and her son, Adi (Gautam Ahuja) at the Bhalla household, where she plots against Ishita to reclaim Raman. However, Ishita and Raman only grow closer and Shagun is thrown out of the house. She kidnaps Ruhi and Aditya and Ishita risks her life to save the children. The act causes Shagun to re-examine herself and turn her life around. Raman's brother, Romi (Aly Goni) is told that his ex-girlfriend, Sarika (Sarika Dhillon) had his child and convinces her to marry him.

Ashok is revealed to be a sex offender and his marriage with Mihika ends in divorce. Ishita is able to become pregnant with Raman's child, but suffers a miscarriage when Ashok tries to kill the entire family. The couple decide to try again with a reformed Shagun acting as their surrogate. However, there are difficulties in the household as Ashok has a spy among them, which turns out to be Sarika; the child she claimed to be Romi's was adopted.

Ishita finds the real parents of the orphan but accidentally kills the father and is convicted for murder. Raman is convinced to marry Nidhi (Pavitra Punia), a defense lawyer, to save Ishita. It is revealed that Nidhi was the master mind behind the murder and wants to marry Raman. Raman and Ishita expose Nidhi and Ishita is bailed from murder case. When Raman and Ishita's child Pihu was born, Nidhi kidnaps the newborn. As Ishita tries to rescue Pihu, Nidhi also kidnaps Ruhi and fakes their deaths. Incensed over the loss, Raman banishes Ishita from the house. Before he can correct his mistake, Ishita attempts suicide, leaving everyone to think she is dead, while she was actually saved by her childhood friend, Mani (Sumeet Sachdev).

7 Years Later

After living in Australia with Mani and his niece Aaliya (Krishna Mukherjee) Ishita returns to India and meets Raman, who feels betrayed that she lived away from him for so many years. Romi marries Mihika. Ishita and Raman learn that Ruhi (Aditi Bhatia) is alive and is living as a pop star Ruhaan. She was kidnapped by Nidhi who poisoned her mind against Ishita. In order to win her back, they mend their relationship. This disappoints Pihu (Ruhanika Dhawan), who is now a 7-year-old girl, believes that Raman and Shagun are her parents. Raman and Ishita get Shagun and Mani married, but afterward, Shagun turns Pihu rebellious.

Aditya (Abhishek Verma) has also grown up and he and Aliya fall in love. Ishita and Raman get remarried. After Pihu learns that Ishita is her real mother, Mani and Shagun decide to leave the country with her. Raman desperately goes with them, in hopes of counteracting Shagun's influence.

1 Year Later

Shagun, Mani, Aliya and Pihu have been living in Bangkok, Thailand with Raman staying nearby to keep an eye on Pihu. They meet each other at Sydney and try to win Pihu's love. Ruhi explains to Pihu the sacrifices that Ishita made for her, leading Pihu to accept Ishita as her mother. Dejected, Shagun returns to India.

After Sohail (Gaurav Wadhwa) tries to blackmail Ruhi through a MMS video, Ishita handles the situation while Raman goes berserk. Upset with Raman's anger issues, Ishita leaves with Pihu and Ruhi and lives with Shagun, who is pregnant with Mani's child. But in Santoshi's request, Ishita returns home. Nidhi (accidentally) kills Ishita's sister, Vandita (Shruti Bapna), and Raman is charged with the crime. Ishita proves his innocence and has Nidhi arrested. Adi goes for a business project to Khandpur village where he is forced to get married to village girl, named Roshni (Vidisha Srivastava), as the people of Khandpur blame Adi for the death of Chandan, Roshni's fiancé, (unknown to them, Ashok is actually responsible for Chandan's death). Adi and Roshni get married but soon they get divorced. Afterwards, Adi and Aliya get married.

Mani is presumed dead in an accident and Raman is (wrongfully) charged again. His innocence is proven when it is revealed that Mani is alive. Ruhi becomes friends with Pihu's friend, Riya (Drishti Hemdev) and develops feelings for Riya's father, Nikhil (Ribbhu Mehra). As Nikhil's true colours are revealed, Ishita and Raman struggle as Ruhi falls in love with the wrong person.

Pihu pushes her cousin, Ananya (Kavya Ramnani) down a staircase in a fatal accident. Ananya dies. Raman's sister, Simmi (Shireen Mirza), the mother of Ananya, is outraged and demands justice. To protect Pihu, Ishita makes a false confession and is sentenced to life imprisonment, while a disbelieving Raman is left heartbroken.Later unknown to Raman, Ashok reopens the case, to prove Ishita's innocence.

2 Years Later

A broken Bhalla family visits Budapest, Hungary for a business trip, where they fall into a trap set by Simmi and Param (Anurag Sharma), Ananya's parents. Adi is struggling to save his marriage as Aliya develops a gambling addiction. Pihu has been put in a boarding school where Simmi torments her. Raman's depression is exploited with drug abuse, to the point where he has forgotten his family and allowed Param to take over his company. Ishita arrives, aided by Ashok, who has (genuinely) reformed after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Back in Delhi, Ishita tries to help Raman regain his memories. Pihu is kidnapped by Nikhil, who is working with Simmi and Param, and Ishita becomes paralyzed in the ensuing conflict. The stress causes Raman to have a seizure and Simmi convinces the family that Ishita is the source of the stress. Ishita is warned to stay away or Raman could die. Simmi frames Aliya for the murder of a money lender, in order to force Ishita to sign divorce papers. With Mihika's help, Ishita defeats Simmi and Param, who are ousted from the family. Ishita is welcomed back into the family.

It is revealed that Ruhi was molested by Nikhil, but kept silent due to Simmi's threats. Ishita gets Nikhil arrested and Raman remembers that Ruhi is his daughter. Simmi, still vengeful, shoots Ishita. Ishita is taken to the hospital, where Raman is convinced he shot her. Ishita becomes blind and Raman wants to be sent to an asylum, as he thinks he is a danger. Ashok dies by saving Ishita who heals.

A happy Raman decides to take Ishita on a trip to London where Romi, Adi, Shagun and Aaliya also arrived for their separate reasons and they all meet Roshni there. An anonymous woman, Sonakshi (Charu Mehra), in London, who may be a spirit, appears to possess Ishita. Meanwhile, Adi starts to develop feelings for Roshni. But soon in India, the same anonymous lady follows Ishita and during an encounter with her, Ishita seeks the truth. All planning and plotting of that lady came to a tragic end when Ishita captures her.

A shocking truth came into light when the woman told that she is not a spirit and not Sonakshi Gupta but she is Aarushi (also Charu Mehra), the twin sister of Sonakshi. She also reveals that Sonakshi committed suicide because of Raman's illegal recruitment business of which Sonakshi had fallen a prey to. Aarushi wanted to take the revenge of her sister Sonakshi's death from Raman. Later, Ishita comes to know that the master mind behind this is Kiran (Amita Yadav), second wife of Bala (Pankaj Bhatia), Vandita's husband. Through Kiran, they come to know that Ashok's brother, Suraj (Vineett Kumar), is behind this. Soon Raman regains his complete memory back. Meanwhile, Adi is in love with Roshni. Adi and Aaliya's relationship becomes worse. Later, Ruhi informs Ishita that Adi is the real mastermind who is doing fraud business with Suraj.

Meanwhile, Simmi comes to know about Ananya's death's mystery while Ishita and Raman were discussing. Adi forces Aliya to give divorce and Aliya goes to Ishita and tells about Adi. Raman throws Adi out of the house. Roshni agrees to marry Shantanu which is suggested by Shagun. Later, Adi kidnaps Roshni at the temple and takes her to a hill top. Meanwhile, Simmi tells the judge to arrest Pihu and she is sentenced to live in juvenile home for 8 months. The season ends with Ishita being forced to shoot Adi and he dies.

8 Months Later

Pihu is back from juvenile house, Ishita and Raman went to receive Pihu, there it was revealed that the whole Bhalla and Iyer family (except for Ruhi, Bala and Kiran) rejected Ishita. It is then revealed that Roshni is pregnant with Adi's child. Ishita is blamed by everyone for Adi's death. Ishita feels responsible for Roshni and takes her in where the Bhallas try to get Roshni to live with them so they can steal the baby. At the baby shower, Shagun plans to scare Roshni with fungi sweets because she is protective of Aaliya. Ishita realizes their plan and takes her back but Param kidnaps her. The new puppet for Param and Simmi is Romi. Roshni is kidnapped by Param by disguising as CCTV installer while leaving clues against Romi. Roshni figures a way out of the kidnapped place and coincidentally meet with Raman and Ishita on the road.

The Bhallas now play a new game to take Roshni and Adi's baby away from Roshni. They file for custody of the baby. Roshni says she will give the Bhallas her baby, if they make Ishita their daughter-in-law again. The Bhallas hesitantly accept. Simmi tries to once again ruin her brother's life. She brings in a girl names Taaniya and sends her to the pub Raman goes to every night. She gets close to Raman one night and takes him to her house. Raman goes home later, and Ishita tries to get him into the house silently. The next day, Taaniya comes running to the Bhallas and claims that Raman recorded her taking a shower. Raman does not remember as he was really drunk. Shagun comes on behalf the NGO, and takes Taaniya's side. Other family members who take Taaniya's side include Raman's parents Omprakaash (Kaushal Kapoor) and Santoshi (Usha Rana), Simmi and Param. Ishita says Raman can never do this to a woman and claims she will prove Tania wrong.

Eventually, Ishita is able to prove Raman's innocence to the rest of the family, much to Simmi and Param's chagrin, but soon they are hit with the news of Tania's suicide. Police find a letter stating that Raman is the cause of her suicide, and so police arrest Raman. Simmi and Param are happy hearing Raman's arrest, but do not understand how Tania has died, since their plan was to have Tania fake a suicide attempt. Ishita, with the help of Mani, gets Raman out on bail. A blood test reveals that Raman was drugged and therefore does not remember the events of that night. Raman starts to remember and reveals that Tania mixed something in his drink and tried to seduce him. Ishita says that Simmi and Param must have given Tania Raman's phone to make the video. The doctor also reveals that Tania's post mortem report shows that she also had a similar drug to Raman's in her body and was strangled to death, not hanged. The police also see this evidence and clear Raman of the charges. Ishita plans to make this evidence public, to clear Raman's name. Raman and family wholeheartedly accept Ishita and Roshni.

Meanwhile, some goons come to Ishita and Raman's house and beat up Appa, while Raman saves Appa from the goons, the police arrest all the goons. It is shown that Roshini falls and hurts herself. At the hospital, the doctor says he can only save Roshni or her baby. However, the doctor manages to saves both Roshni and the baby, as Roshni gives birth to a baby boy making Ishita and Raman grandparents.

Roshni then leaves trusting Raman and Ishita. Ishita gives the baby to Mihika. Param and Simmi play dirty games but Raman and Ishita stop them. After the plan is foiled, Santoshi is provoked to kill Ishita because she is told that Ishita is danger to the baby. Santoshi puts poison in tea and makes Ishita drink it and Raman, Ruhi freak out that Ishita is dead but it was a plan and Ishita was pretending to be dead and Santoshi told Ishita. It was a plan to expose Param and he runs away threatening to shoot them if they come near him. He kidnaps Pihu as a clown and Simmi is on Ishita's side and they try to save Pihu from Param's clutches.

After this Pihu and Simmi fall into a cave and get stuck there and Raman and Ishita go there to rescue them.In the process, both Raman and Ishita get stuck in the cave. Pihu and Simmi successfully come out of the cave while Raman and Ishita remain trapped. Soon everyone is rescued but Param spoils their happiness by planning to kill everyone by planting TNT. Raman and Ishita get hurt severely in the process of saving everyone. Raman gets his spine damaged and hence requires the treatment of Dr. Rajat, the best neurologist in Delhi. But Dr. Rajat is on vacation and is refusing to come but Ishita convinces him and he treated Raman successfully.

Everyone is happy, but their happiness is short lived as they find out Raman is paralyzed due to the bomb blast, Raman starts feeling useless as many times when goons harass Ishita, Aaliya and Ruhi he is unable to do anything. Soon Bhallas find out that the reason for Raman's paralysis is not because of the blast, but because Dr. Rajat performed the surgery under the influence of alcohol which made him make a mistake. Dr. Rajat turns out to be a alcohol addict. Sudha (Sudha Chandran) the owner of the hospital in which Raman was admitted, gets angry and does everything in her power to keep Raman and Ishita silent and to protect the reputation of her hospital. But Raman and Ishita fight for justice and bring the case to the court and win the case with the help of Raman's therapist who also does therapy for Dr. Rajat. Rajat Chaudhary's medical license is cancelled and Dr. Rajat out of guilt and pain commits suicide. It is then revealed that Sudha was actually the elder sister of Rajat. Sudha breaks down on Rajat's death and vows to destroy the Bhallas as she thinks Rajat committed suicide because of the Bhallas. Aaliya befriends a guy called Rohan (Abhishek Malik) and he starts developing feelings for Aaliya.

Meanwhile, the Bhallas try to find a marriage alliance for Ruhi and Sudha continues to spoil all their efforts. Finally one day, a proposal arrives for Ruhi and everyone especially Aakiya is surprised to find out it is Rohan. But then Rohan misunderstood the bride to be Aaliya and actually came to the Bhalla house to marry Aaliya not Ruhi. Aaliya doesn't want to marry Rohan and Romi badly beats up Rohan. Ruhi is heartbroken and cries a lot remembering her past experiences with Sohail and Nikhil but later becomes fine. Aliya blames herself for everything and labels herself a widow but Ruhi explains to her that she should move on and that it is not Aaliya's fault and that it was just a misunderstanding. The Bhallas especially Ruhi try to unite Rohan and Aaliya while Sudha constantly tries to spoil everything. Meanwhile, on the journey of uniting Aaliya and Rohan, Rohan's younger brother Karan (Nikhil Chaddha) and Ruhi start to fall in love. Raman regains his ability to walk when Rohan pretends that he is going to kill Ishita. During Aaliya and Rohan's engagement, Rohan and Karan's mother, Kaushalya, suggests that Ruhi and Karan should get married in the same mandap as Rohan and Aliya. The couples get married after overcoming a few obstacles. Aaliya and Ruhi come to the Bhalla household for a post-wedding ritual. Raman finds out that Sudha has kidnapped Rohan and Karan. He goes alone to save them. Sudha forces him to drink Whiskey. Ishita reaches there and Sudha gives her a choice between saving Raman and saving Rohan and Karan. Ruhi, Aliya, Mani and Simi reach the scene. It is then revealed that Rohan and Karan are actually Sudha's sons, Kaushalya is Sudha's younger sister and the marriage was a sham to dishonour Ruhi, Aaliya and the Bhallas.

Ishita makes a plan to punish Karan and Rohan and brings them home. Sudha tries every way to get revenge. Ishita gets kidnapped as per to Sudha and Param's evil plan. However, Ishita manages to escape from their clutches but she gets kidnapped again by Aditya's look-alike, Yug. Ishita is shocked but later finds out it's not Aditya as Yug doesn't recognise her. Raman blames Sudha for Ishita's kidnapping but Sudha doesn't know where Ishita really is as Ishita escaped from her clutches. Yug returns Ishita to the Bhallas and Shagun spots him and thinks he is Aditya but Ishita tells her who he really is. Meanwhile, Rohan falls in love with Aaliya for real and turns good. He helps the Bhallas from his mother's evil antics. The Bhallas accept that Rohan has changed especially Aaliya who slowly falls for him to. Ruhi and Karan continue to hate and argue they soon divorce each other but Karan also wants Rohan and Aaliya to divorce and so he forges Aaliya's signature and when Rohan finds out he slaps Karan and reveals to eveyone he doesn't want to divorce Aaliya. Sudha later gets Raman arrested for some reason for which Rohan takes the blame as he knows this is his mum's doing therefore the Bhallas think that Rohan didn't change at all except for Aliya who believes him to be innocent. Rohan is bailed and tells Karan that Sudha poisoned the sweets which made Raman point a gun at the minister due to the effect of the poison. On learning about this, Karan disowns Sudha and joins hands with Rohan and the Bhallas. But later it is revealed, that Karan only did this drama to get more information about the Bhallas and how they made Rohan turn against his family. By doing so, he tries to play with Ruhi’s emotions once again. She doesn't get convinced. Meanwhile, Yug meets Aaliya by saving her from an accident and immediately falls in love with her. Rohan decided to settle down his life with Aaliya and decided to open a company called ishra. After that Sudha suffers from accident or heartattack which they sons leave for a hospital where Sudha demand Rohan to live with her but Rohan refuses later Alia convince her on the other hand Ishita get a post nuptial agreement for Rohan and Aaliya to Rohan sign it and after that party is begins where all Bhallas come for Aaliya and Rohan. Yug is in jail because of Ishita and Shagun. Ishita decided to teach Yug a leasson to send him in jail for which actually he does not do, police beat him hardly he decided to teach a lesson to bhallas. Rohan's brother uses this opportunity to create a drift between Rohan and Alia. He invites Yug to the party hosted in the honour of Alia and Rohan. Yug started yelling for alia and fell down. ALIA assumes that he is Adi. The family have got no choice but to let Yug live with them as Alia is facing depression. Reception

Despite airing for nearly two years, Ye Hai Mohabbatein was still one of the highest-rated shows on Indian television in January 2016 when it was ranked third in TRP (Target Rating Point) ratings chart. Starting in January 2017, the show begun to falter in the TRP ratings when the show's focus shifted to the new generation.[53] Nevertheless, the show is very popular in the UK, being the most-watched Indian show.[54][55] The climax of Ruhi-Nikhil track leading to Ananya's death brought a sudden spike in the ratings in the first week of November 2017 (week 44) and the series secured a place amongst the Top 10 shows after almost a year off this ranking.[56] With the Budapest track and the focus back on the main leads, the show reached the Top 5 in the second week of November 2017 (week 45).[57][58] In week 46 of the year 2017, the show further climbed to the 4th spot on the TRP chart, thus becoming the most-watched show on StarPlus.[59] In week 47 of the year 2017, the show remained at No. 4 on the TRP charts and continued to be the most-watched show on StarPlus. The show continued to do well maintaining its No. 1 position on StarPlus in the following weeks. In week 51 of 2017, Ye Hai Mohabbatein emerged as the most-watched show across all Hindi GECs. (General Entertainment Channels)[60] In week 8 of the year 2018, the show remained at No. 3 on the TRP charts and continued to be the most-watched show on STAR Plus.[61] In May 2018, the show was shifted to 10:30 pm from 7:30 pm which led to a fall in TRPs. Roshni's baby track was received poorly by fans which led to a further downfall in TRPs following which the broadcaster, StarPlus, intervened asking the producer, Ekta Kapoor, to change the storyline of the show also giving it a 6-month deadline to increase the ratings. Ishita's fake death drama to expose Param led to the show re-entering the TRP chart in week 31 of the year 2018 occupying the 18th place with 3889 million viewerships.[62]
