Thanks for the Welcome!

I've been at this for a few weeks now; mostly I clean-up as I go along and edit for style. I've noticed kids using a couple of articles as forums for their graffiti. Considering how quickly the pages get reverted, it's akin to burst-transmission of libel, LOL!

Usama Bin Laden and the concept of filibustering

I agree that the distinction is close, but UBL fails to pass a few critical tests to be considered a filibuster: he does not wage war for the purpose of taking territory or exploiting the wealth of his targets, and his operations are not expeditionary in nature. (Perhaps this idea should be better expanded upon in the entry itself.) I can see the argument in terms of the fact that what he and the rest of the Wahabbis (sp?) really have in mind, at the end of the day, is the expansion of the scope and power of the Islamic world, but I don't really think that's enough - it amounts to aggressive proselytization and a religious war at worst; something quite different from filibustering.

I can agree to the reinsertion of the passage in question if these points are made; comparing and contrasting UBL to historical filibusters rather than simply proclaiming him to be one of their number, if you will. What do you think?

I'd have to admit that while there's some overlap between the two modes of irregular warfare (21st-century terrorism and 19th-century military filibustering), the differences are more germane. World's Smallest Political Quiz userbox

You may be interested in User:Audacity/Userboxes/WSPQ, which is a replacement for the old Political Chart userbox. The new userbox takes the two variables (economic and personal freedom), calculates which political alignment they place you into (Statist, Libertarian, Liberal, Centrist, or Conservative), and links your userpage to the appropriate category.

Idaho caucus

If you read the Statesman article, you'll see that the claim was that the Ada County caucus had the largest site. That's a pretty trivial claim, and the sort that local pride is prone to make without backup, so I deleted it again. 8,290 voters made for the largest caucus in the U.S. on Super Tuesday 2008. (Technically two caucuses were held at Qwest Arena for Congressional Districts 1 and 2, but the latter would still be the largest caucus on the union). Appalling case of Original Research in heavily viewed article.

Please refrain from introducing nonsense into 2009 swine flu outbreak or any other articles. "Octagonal structure" of their genome is Original Research, since the word "octagonal" has never been used to describe influenza. Large numbers of people are reading this article, and translating it into other languages. Little Mistake

That boy in the United States who died after 23 months of life was not a United States citizen. His parents brought him to Texas from Mexico to get medical treatment, so therefore, it doesn't count as a United States death. Notability of A(H1N1) Deaths

Perhaps you don't take it upon yourself to decide what is notable (this is a subjective issue) when it comes to reported deaths that have official references. Because this is a pandemic timeline, there is interest by many to see the progression of deaths in certain countries. You have been busy when it comes to deleting posts which do not have citations or references, but you have to look into the bigger picture when it comes to posts that have references. Otherwise we should delete posts regarding the USA or UK vacinations, pig zoonosis, school closures in Iraq, clinical trials in China, savvy. I will reinsert the India and perhaps Hong Kong deaths to the timeline later this weekend. Roman888 (talk) 04:33, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Fair enough. My main concern is that the cumulative deaths would just keep dribbling in... By this stage of the pandemic it better suits the global H1N1 timeline for the number of deaths to be reported in terms of orders of magnitude, but YMMV. Not first time that street protests had toppled the leader of an Arab country

I have removed the assertion you put in 2010-2011 Tunisian protests that it is the first time an Arab leader has been removed by a popular uprising. I know it is well cited; I have personally come across many pieces in the British media citing the "fact". It is also wrong. If you want to have a discussion so we verify the information I would be happy to. I have already had two references in the talk page that Sudan had two such uprising before.Karouri (talk) 14:18, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

I stand corrected. At first I thought that the Sudanese protests were a marginal case and not salient, but I glanced at the Wall Street Journal today and it agrees with you and not with me! All you have to do to discover its provenance is to left click on it. The image was made by a Tunisian citizen, and it illustrates the French Wikipedia article on the protests. (There's a section there on the term "Jasmine Revolution," but alas! I am not a Francophone.) The image which heads the French article looks like it might be deleted soon, but in any case I felt that we needed an over-all image for our own article's opening. kencf0618 (talk) 03:19, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

As the co-owner of the gallery in which the artwork is displayed, as well as the artist of the work, you have a clear conflict of interest in regard to promoting your image. Also, in regard to your "bold" editing, please read WP:BRD, about the "Bold, Revert, Discuss" cycle. Since you've chosen to blow off the copyright violation, I've nominated both images for deletion on Commons, where I note that you have a history of uploading copyvio images.

As for your speculation, no. Found items are generally not copyrighted, but once they're taken and exhibited as art, copyright extends to them: as soon as a contemporary Duchamp signs "R. Mutt" to a urinal, it's a piece of art and covered by copyright law. If you took a picture of the urinal before the artist got to it, you own the copyright to the image; if you take a picture after the artist uses it, adopts it, alters it, displays it, whatever, your image is a derivative work and you do not own the copyright on it, nor can you upload it to Commons. Perhaps you should review WP:BOLD. Your "two tries" method is not very respectful of the opinions of other editors and seems likely to produce conflicts. I started improving the articles in Category:Women state legislators in Idaho, and have done what I do at Senator LeFavour's with what was there, including: removing the youtube video, which I sourced to independent coverage that hosts it, and added the best quote in the reference; removing cites to search results and blogs, including hers - 1 personal site (her campaign site) per Wikipedia:External links guidelines (I would think it's linked from her site, but didn't check); reformatted all dates to correspond to her birthdate - one style per article; we link to ballotpedia as a resource, but not a reference; election statistics should be as specific as possible, not randomly rounded by third parties; Senator should only appear in the infobox, the intro, other people, and headlines/quotes - readers don't forget during a reading of the article; section headings should not contain things which will become dated, as they may be linked from other articles - I checked before changing it but the Disco ball photo link surprised me. I may go back and try to clear some 'citation needed' and unsourced bits after finishing the category. Yes. It was very procedural, and fully vetted —I was especially pleased that British Muslims who know of Mohammed Ansar's standing in the UK had weighed in. The man himself told me that the discussion page had exploded, and of course found the discussion quite interesting on several levels, although some of the finer points of Wiki-fu had him, as he would say, "stroking his beard." I was unaware of your page Operation Spade when I started 2013 International child pornography investigation about 5 hours later, though I worked on it for about 4 hours before 'creating' it.

I've put in the BBC citations again. It might be better to title it, "List of Middle East respiratory syndrome outbreaks", rather than timeline, as that seems to be a fork of what is there now. The article on the 2012 outbreak can actually be contained to the original outbreak, explaining the first appearance, the history, etc., which I can sort. It is not a reliable source for factual information. Second of all, one only has to be 35 years old to serve as president. Anyone can run. In fact, a few individuals younger than 35 have run for president previously. Most recently, Peta Lindsay was only 27 when she ran for president in 2012 as the nominee of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. She appeared on the presidential ballot in Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington (see official FEC results). Certain states, such as Colorado, require candidates to meet the Constitutional requirements to serve before appearing on the ballot. Thus, the PSL listed stand-in candidate Gloria La Riva. Hi Kencf0618,

I'm a student at American University currently enrolled in a class about Wikipedia. I'm working with another student on a project to get input from Wikipedia users about talk pages and their usefulness as they currently stand. We believe they are difficult to use, track of and are not easy to follow. If you could make any improvements to Wikipedia talk pages overall, 1) Would you? 2) Why or why not? and 3) What would those improvements be?
