Revision as of 22:38, 13 December 2017

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 05:38 on 10 November 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

  • "... that after playing with Lego bricks as a child, Roma Agrawal designed both the tip and bottom of The Shard (pictured)?" - I did know that, because it was on the main page on the 10th of November. DuncanHill (talk) 22:11, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • DuncanHill it's to balance the main page, nothing cleverer than that. Have a look over the last few edits here at ERRORS in the history if you're interested. We don't introduce "new" DYKs to bulk the section up because people get upset that their hooks don't get the expected 24-hour exposure. If you can suggest a better way of balancing the main page with four dynamic sections changing on an hourly basis, feel free to do so. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:15, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's only you that remembered. And don't forget, we have different timezones too, so some people may not have even seen this stuff before. In any case, this has happened dozens of times, this is the first time you've picked it up, perhaps if you dislike it so much, formulate a guideline as to how long ago hooks should have been on the main page for them to be allowed to run again. Or run for RFA and make these decisions yourself. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:25, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's the first time I've bothered to mention it here, not the first time I've noticed it. And I am sure that others will have remembered, but they either may not know about this page, or will have been put off posting here by the shitty reception from one or two of those who own it. DuncanHill (talk) 22:29, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
