Gudivada is a census town in Krishna district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a mandal headquarters with more than 100,000 inhabitants, lying as junction of Vijayawada-Machilipatnam-Bhimavaram-Nuzvid in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh of India.

History

Gudi means temple and vada means place in Telugu. Gudivada might be derived from existence of number of temples in the past. Gudivada was known as Vidarbhapuri in past.

Reference:Khandeyayani Kaikaluru Silasasanam of AD 1628. The place was in existence for over 2,000 years and has been flourishing perpetually from the time of the Satavahanas.

Gudivada was a culture center during the period of Vijayanagar Empire. The excavations discovered certain archaeological remains such as Buddhist and Jain relics. There are also about 99 low mounds with the ruins of Buddhist stupas. The notable one among the old Buddhist stupas is an elevated mound in a cylindrical form with a semi-spherical top

Mahatma Gandhi addressed the public in Gudivada on December 17, 1933.

Geography

Gudivada is located at 16°27′N 80°59′E / 16.45°N 80.98°E / 16.45; 80.98.[3] It has an average elevation of 6 metres (19 feet). Weather is quite hot in summer.

Gudivada has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 66%. In Gudivada, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

However Jewellery and Gold business and cinema seems to have a special place.

Gudivada Tirth Jain Temple

The artistry of this ancient idol of Parshvanath is of a special type, beautiful and of a different style. The skilled artists have applied all their skill to the making of this idol and have presented a specimen of matchless, wonderful and distinct type of art. On seeing the idol, one feels that Dharanendradev appears and holds the umbrella over Bhagawan head. It is difficult to find elsewhere-such an extraordinary idol. An annual fair held at this temple is a major festival of the region. The management of this temple is with Shri shwetambar Jain Parshwanath Mandir Trust.
