*Basketball one: change "Most outstanding player" to MOP, to save space. This is consistent with normal practices, when we use MVP, not Most Valuable Player. Right now the basketball section is way too long. Note: this has been mentioned at WP:ITNC, but I expect this will get a quicker response. *:The verdict last year was to expand MOP. I'm ok either way.—Bagumba (talk) 11:57, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
*:In my experience, exactly 50% of all people will complain vehemently when you abbreviate this term, and exactly the OTHER 50% will complain just as vehemently when we don't. There's no win here. If we make such a change, it will make you happy, and 4 seconds later someone else will show up asking us to expand the abbreviation out. We do this literally every time we use the terms for the "best player in a competition", whatever it is called, and there's really no point to changing it one way or the other. There is no good solution, so there is no good reason to change it. --<span style="color:#009">Jayron</span><b style="color:#090">32</b> 13:18, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
*::Spell out MOP; unlike "MVP" which has its usage spread outside out of sports invented in North America, MOP hasn't. Howard the Duck (talk) 15:01, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
*:::Actually, I'm pretty sure MVP has not either. 100% of the time an blurb with the abbreviation MVP is used, some very confused person comes by complaining that it needs to be written out, often within mere seconds of the blurb going live. (for some reason ONLY these abbreviations cause this level of consternation; other abbreviations like NCAA and FIFA do not lead to panicked requests of confusion over their meaning...) --<span style="color:#009">Jayron</span><b style="color:#090">32</b> 15:27, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
*::::Okay, happy to consider this as not an obvious error then. I may post at WT:ITN to see if we can agree on this for consistency in future. <b style="color:#0033ab">Joseph</b><b style="color:#000000">2302</b> (talk) 15:37, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
*::::I'd be okay with spelling out "MVP" for our Britisher friends. Sports such as handball and football already use the term. It's not as if the rest of the world are entirely foreign with the initials... unlike MOP. Howard the Duck (talk) 16:06, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
*:::::FWIW I've never heard of MOP in several decades of watching dozens of different sports from all around the globe. The Rambling Man <small>(Keep wearing the mask...)</small> 17:31, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
*::::::FWIW, I'm an AMERICAN that watches dozens of different sports, and I've never heard of MOP either! ;) MeegsC (talk) 19:16, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
*:::::::American, but not a sports fan. If I saw someone being called the "MOP" on the Main Page, I would immediately assume vandalism. --User:Khajidha (talk) (contributions) 22:13, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
*:::::::And in this case, I would think it was a slur on Ms Bostons sex or race. --User:Khajidha (talk) (contributions) 22:14, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

Revision as of 11:48, 6 April 2022

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

 • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
 • Offer a correction if possible.
 • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
 • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 06:27 on 13 May 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
 • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
 • Do not use edit fully-protected on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
 • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
 • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
 • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.
