.me is a future Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) that is reserved for Montenegro, as the country code top-level domain for Montenegro, following the decision on 26 September 2006 by the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency to allocate ME as the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code for Montenegro.
This decision followed Montenegro's June 3, 2006 declaration of independence from Serbia and Montenegro, which used the code YU.
ICANN has resolved[1] that .me is to be delegated to the Government of Montenegro with the former .yu domain to be operated temporarily by the .rs domain registry, Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names, until its eventual abolition on or before 30 September 2009.
This allows a two-year transition period for existing .yu names to be transferred to .me or to .rs.
The delegation of name servers by IANA is pending, as of 2007.[2]
