Ummedganj ( उम्मेदगंज ) is a small village in the Hadoti region of Rajasthan, India. The nearest town is Atru, which is 12 km away. It is located 47 km from the district headquarter, Baran[1]. It's population is arround 761. It comes under Antana Gram Panchayat. In this village there is an upper primary school and a small health care center, where a nurse come.[2][3][4]

Agriculture:

The village is highly dependent on agriculture activities. People in the village raise livestock like buffalos, cows, goats. Every household owns the land but to grow crop is not possible for small farmer or marginal farmer. Some farmer of the village have big farm. Hence there is a unequal distribution of land. The input cost for plowing, sowing, maintenance, irrigation, and harvesting are very high for small and marginal farmer. Most of the small and marginal farmer do not have their own water resources, so they have to arrange water from other farmer for their crop. To avoid the economic burden of the land, small and marginal farmer rent their land to big farmers.

Employment:

According to the 2011 census data, The overall literacy rate Ummedganj is 67%.On the total population, 416 were engaged in work activities. 46.63% of workers describe their work as Main Work (Employment or Earning more than 6 Months) while 53.37% were involved in Marginal activity such as NREGA, providing a livelihood for less than 6 months. Of 416 workers engaged in Main Work, 126 were cultivators (owner or co-owner) while 46 were agricultural labourers. Some people of the village also employed in govt job.

Ummedganj has a upper primary government school. Almost every child attends school. The school has handpump, tubewell and a large water tank for drinking water. There are 5 class rooms, 1 library, 1 office and kitchen. There is also separate washrooms for students. The school is situated on musen mata road. The school has electricity. Quality of education in this school is very good. In this school there is 4 teachers who comes daily to teach children.[5][6]

Health Care :

There is a primary health center where a nurse come daily. Through this health care center primary health care is provided to villagers. Angan Badi Play important role in Health. Karyakarta (Worker i.e., Asha Sahyogni ) of Angan Badi help in Female Health Care like Delivery, Mother and Infants Vacccination, Male or Female Sterilization and Family Planing.

Transport :

This village well connected with road to Atru tehsil or nearby villages. The road connect it to nearby villages, is made by a scheme - Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna started by Central Governement.[9]

Geographical Information :

It is located between Bhupasi River and Balukhal (River) in the southern part of Rajasthan. The cartographic coordinates are 24.796593°N 76.628618°E. According to census data 2011 the area of village is 295.07 Hectares.

There are 150 families residing. The Ummedganj village has population of 761 of which 409 are males while 352 are females as per Population Census 2011.[2]

In Ummedganj village population of children with age 0-6 is 110 which makes up 14.45 % of total population of village. Average Sex Ratio of Ummedganj village is 861 which is lower than Rajasthan state average of 928. Child Sex Ratio for the Ummedganj as per census is 964, higher than Rajasthan average of 888. [10]

Literacy Rate :

Ummedganj village has higher literacy rate compared to Rajasthan. In 2011, literacy rate of Ummedganj village was 68.36 % compared to 66.11 % of Rajasthan. In Ummedganj Male literacy stands at 86.40 % while female literacy rate was 46.98 %.[11]

Religious Places :

There are two temples in this village. One of which is the temple of Radha Krishna, which was completed in the year 1996. The second temple is of Hanuman. There are platforms of many Hindu deities in the village. There is a century in the village where Shiva Linga is installed. Whenever a cookery Programme ( Rasoi Karyakram ) is organized in the village, it is done in this century.

COVID-19 Outbreak In Village :

Corona virus spread in the village in June 2021. A large number of people in the village turned out to be Corona positive. District Magistrate & Collector Rajendra Vijay had issued prohibitory orders declaring the entire periphery area of Ummedganj, a micro-containment zone, of village panchayat Antana of Atru subdivision of the district, to prevent the spread of corona epidemic. This order was effective till the completion of 14 days and till 12 midnight on June 21, 2021.[23]

People involve In Illicit Drugs

Some young people of the village are involved in illicit drugs trade. Some people were even caught by the police carrying ganja. Rambilas, a resident of the village, was caught with 04 kg 850 grams of the illegal drug Ganja and a case was registered against him under the NDPS Act.[24]
