List of iPhone models

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 68.39.4.46 (talk) at 00:07, 18 March 2010 (iPod touch firmware upgrade). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Some of Apple's multi-touch devices. From left to right: original iPhone, original iPod Touch (1G), iPhone 3G.

This is a list and comparison of iPhone OS devices designed and marketed by Apple Inc. The iPhone is a multimedia smartphone, while the iPod Touch has no cell phone hardware. The iPad is a multimedia tablet. All three devices function as digital audio and portable media players and Internet clients. They run iPhone OS on their multi-touch screens, which makes it easy to upgrade software, although iPod touch users are usually required to pay for major software upgrades (which tend to be released once a year). Apple upgrades its products' hardware periodically (approximately yearly), and each model is known as a "generation". There have been three generations of both the iPhone and the iPod Touch. The second generation of each is still available at a reduced price. The iPad has not yet been released for sale to the public due to pending [[[edit]Federal Communications Commission|FCC]] approval.

Comparison of models

Battery life

Rear view of the original iPhone (left) made of aluminum and plastic, and the iPhone 3G, made completely from a hard plastic material.[31]
The reverse of the iPhone 3G (left) is almost identical to that of the 3GS, differentiated only by the latter's reflective text.

Apple runs tests on pre-production units to determine battery life. However, these are purported maximums ("up to"), and actual user experiences vary.[10][32][33][34][35] All numbers are in hours unless specified.
