Hello ChesPal,

Welcome to Wikipedia!

I would be happy to help you begin editing a Wikipedia article. I have a few ideas. Would you like to discuss them with me? Cullen328 (talk) 01:40, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A kitten for you!

Hi Debra, thanks so much for coming to the editathon today! I hope you keep working on that article in your sandbox – you're lucky to have a great Wikipedian in residence who can help you out :) Accedietalk to me 03:29, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • I really enjoyed the Edit-a-thon. My article as a DYK made me feel fabulous. Have started researching my second article, a subject not yet on Wikipedia. Guess I am a glutton for punishment

Hi there!

Just wanted to drop by and say hello - I was also at the San Francisco Women's History Month Edit-a-Thon. Don't think we officially met there but I saw on your user page that you're also a cooking/food lover (as am I!).  :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cupcakemuffin (talkcontribs) 01:38, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

--Congrats on your first article - it looks great!! :) Thanks for letting me know about it! Cupcakemuffin (talk) 03:16, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting article

How to run an edit-a-thon Steven Walling sent this to me. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:17, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Most interesting. I think that anyone who participates in an Edit-a-Thon should be highly encouraged to come with a list of topics that interest them and motivate them to jump into the lake of Wikipedia. For example, I want to be an illustrator. I love teapots, love tea and related subjects to tea. Well, the Commons has only about a dozen photos of teapots. I have a collection of at least 60 teapots that are quite interesting. Thus, I now have a great goal to photograph my teapots and put them into Wikimedia Commons. Likewise my best friend has some great teapots that can be photographed and added to the library of photos. This is very, very exciting. I also love many types of crafts. I can see myself looking up articles for those things which are a big part of my life and either expanding them or adding photos. ChesPal (talk) 03:40, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Amish doll

Hi, great job on the Amish doll article! (both you and Cullen328.) It's nice to see good work on doll articles. :) Siawase (talk) 18:52, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My new project - WWC

Hi Deb! I hope all is well. I wanted to stop by to share a new project with you that I am developing, called the WikiWomen's Collaborative. I would love your input about the project.

WWC needs you!
  • You can find the project page here.
  • On the talk page, you'll find a number of questions I'm seeking input on. I'm especially seeking thoughts about hosting the space off of Wikipedia (in the WordPress section). I hope you will join in on the conversation.
  • Finally, this project will be developed with volunteers from around the world who want to engage and support bringing new women to Wikipedia. If you think you'd like to be involved in some capacity, that'd be awesome. We're still working on developing roles, but, you can learn more about volunteer opportunities here.

Thank you for the consideration and I hope you'll participate in developing this exciting new project to bring more women and transwomen to Wikipedia! SarahStierch (talk) 23:17, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit-a-thon tomorrow (Saturday) in Oakland

Hi, I hope you will be joining us tomorrow afternoon at the Edit-a-thon at Tech Liminal, in Oakland. We'll be working on articles relating to women and democracy (and anything else that interests you). It's sponsored by the California League of Women Voters, Tech Liminal, and me.

If this is the first you are hearing of this event, my apologies for the last-minute notice! I announced it on the San Francisco email list and by a banner on your watchlist, but I neglected to look at the San Francisco invitation list until this evening. If you can't make it this time, I hope to see you at a similar event soon! -Pete (talk) 04:41, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're invited to the first-ever Wikipedia Iconathon!

Help build the visual language of Wikipedia at the first ever Wikimedia Foundation/Noun Project Iconathon

The Wikimedia Foundation is partnering up with the Noun Project to run the first-ever Wikipedia Iconathon on April 6th at WMF headquarters, and you're invited!

What is an Iconathon: An iconathon is a co-design process where Wikimedia staff, the user community, and a few graphic designers collaboratively discuss what symbols could best represent a concept for an icon – for example, what's the best icon for New Editor, Revert or Oversight? Sketches will be converted into high fidelity icons by Noun Project graphic designers, and will be released under a free license for use by anyone on the Internet. Help build the free encyclopedia icon set that anyone in the world can share and reuse!

Logistics: The event runs from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm on April 6th at the Wikimedia Foundation office in San Francisco. Follow the signs at the door! We'll have plenty of paper and pens/pencils for sketching.

How to sign up: Please register here using the code 'wiki'

Amazing!

Really nice purse File:Hand_knitted_beaded_purse_necklace.JPG!! :) I love it! Ms.Bono(zootalk) 20:06, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why thank you, Laura. I'm really proud of the purse. It's quite small, as it is worn as a necklace. The beads total over 4 meters so it took quite a bit of time! I'm working on a small article from scratch, but hope to have it in main space over the weekend. You can find a list of my few contributions at the bottom of my user page, which I just finally added and formatted correctly.ChesPal (talk)
Nice, I will check it out after weekend (my work time is almost finishing and I don't have Internet conection at home). My grandma likes knitting, let's see if I have her permission to upload a couple of picts of her work. I spend hours next to her, staring at what she is doing. Very interesting and a lot of work. If I'd ever go to a red carpet event I would like to use your purse. Really awesome :) Best wishes!! Ms.Bono(zootalk) 20:20, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IP block exempt

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.

Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.

Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).

I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. WilliamH (talk) 08:24, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello William, thank you for the IP block exemption. Please be reassured that I do not go onto Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons for editing without being logged in under my username. I appreciate all of the work that you do to keep Wikipedia safer from vandalss, sock puppets and meat puppets. As user Cullen328 told you, I am not a super-active editor, but I am committed to Wikipedia and what knowledge it can bring to the world. Best Regards, ChesPal (talk)

Wikiproject Food and Drink Newsletter - October 2013

Flow Newsletter

Hey ChesPal. I'm dropping you a note to let you know (or remind you) about Flow, the structured discussion system for Wikipedia that we're building. You may have heard about some of the longer-term vision for Flow in the past, but in the last two months we've been moving quickly to narrow down the short-term scope of the project, and we're keen to get feedback.

First: we've written up an explanation of the "minimum viable product" – the set of features that will be in the first, on-wiki deployment. Because discussions on Wikipedia are complex and varied, we're approaching Flow development as an incremental process of uncovering user needs for different types of discussion. The first release will be limited to a few WikiProject talkpages only, with the goal of testing out our first stab at peer-to-peer discussion functionality and improving it based on feedback from the WikiProject members who use it. If you've got any thoughts on the MVP, or on the philosophy we're trying to follow with this software, let us know on the Flow talkpage. If you know of a WikiProject that might be interested in testing this out, let Maryana know on her talkpage :)

Second: we're having a set of discussions around some experimental features we'll be trying in the first release. These include indenting and nesting of comments and comment editing. If you've got any practical thoughts on these, we'd appreciate hearing them. For background and feedback on the design, there are the ongoing set of design iteration notes, a Design FAQ, and a page for design feedback.

The software prototype is still in early development, and changing daily in small ways, with major goals updating every 2 weeks. If you've got comments about other bits of the software, we'll be holding an IRC office hours session in #wikimedia-office at 18:00 UTC on 17 November to talk about Flow as a whole, and fielding questions on the talkpage before and after then.

Third: this is a pre-newsletter announcement of a new WP:Flow/Newsletter signup page! If you'd like further updates, details, and requests for input, please add your name there.

Thanks, Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:44, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Due to multiple-human-error (the best kind of error!) the Office Hours meeting was announced with the wrong month. The logs for today's (quiet) meeting, can be seen at m:IRC office hours#Office hour logs.
The updated time and date of our next IRC office hours meeting is: 18:00 UTC on 24 October. Thanks, and sorry about the mixup. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 21:33, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SF edit-a-thons on March 7 and 8

ArtAndFeminism (3/7) and International Women's Day (3/8)!

Dear fellow Wikipedian,

In celebration of WikiWomen's History Month, the SF Bay Area Wikipedia community has two events in early March -- please consider attending!

First, we have an ArtAndFeminism edit-a-thon, which will take place at the Kadist Art Foundation from 12 noon to 6pm on Saturday, March 7. We'll be one of many sites worldwide participating in this edit-a-thon on March 7th. So join us as we help improve Wikipedia's coverage of women artists and their works!

Second, we will be celebrating International Women's Day with the International Women's Day edit-a-thon on Sunday, March 8 from 1pm to 5pm at the Wikimedia Foundation. Our editing focus will be on women, of course!

I hope to see you there! Rosiestep (talk) - via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:06, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unneccessary blisters.

About Women

Hi ChesPal. I'm an editor (not very active till now) of the Italian Wikipedia, where the gender gap is a real issue. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. I need any kind of suggestion or advice to improve it. Support or endorsement would be fantastic. Many thanks, --Kenzia (talk) 10:23, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bay Area WikiSalon series kickoff, April 27

Please join us in San Francisco!
A Wikipedia panel discussion about journalism
Panel discussion at a recent Wikipedia & Journalism event.

The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts in the San Francisco Bay Area will gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas. We have two brief presentations lined up for our kickoff event in downtown San Francisco:

  • The Nueva Upper School recently hosted the first ever high school Wikipedia edit-a-thon. We will hear what interests them about Wikipedia, what they have learned so far, and what they hope to achieve.
  • Photojournalist Kris Schreier Lyseggen, author of The Women of San Quentin: The Soul Murder of Transgender Women in Male Prisons, will tell us about her work and how she researched the topic.

We allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. We will have beverages and light snacks.

Please note: You must register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on this point.

For further details, see here: Wikipedia:Bay Area WikiSalon, April 2016

We hope to see you -- and until then, happy editing! - Pete, Ben & Wayne

  • A brief report on Pride edit-a-thon recently held at the San Francisco Publice Library, coordinated by Merrilee:
What topics might we cover in a follow up?
Find out more about resources your public library provides to help with editing (hint, it's more than just books!)
Special announcement (secret for now but come and find out more!)
  • Join in on an in person Wikidojo!
Are you curious how your peers approach writing a Wikipedia article? This exercise, pioneered by Wikipedians Nikola Kalchev and Vassia Atanassova in 2015 and conducted in many places around the world, will help us all - from first-time wiki users to veteran Wikipedians - share ideas, while building an article together. If you have ideas (relating to Bay Area history, ideally) about a new article we could build (stubs and short existing articles are fine), please submit them ahead of time to coordinator Pete Forsyth. (User talk page or email is fine.)
Announcements and impromptu topics are welcome, too!

Please note: You must register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict.

A Wikipedia panel discussion about journalism

We hope you can join us today, Wednesday, from 6 p.m. on, at our July Bay Area WikiSalon. This month only, we are going to be at Noisebridge, a hackerspace/makerspace 1.5 blocks from the 16th & Mission BART station (see the link for directions). Some of us will be working on the Wikipedia article on basic income. All info here. Some good news - we do not have to be as strict about advance RSVP at Noisebridge, so bring spontaneous guests! (Registering ahead of time is still helpful, as always, as it will help us plan ahead.)

Come and hang out, have some light snacks. Wi-Fi is available, so please bring your editing device if you plan to edit.

Also, Pete just published a writeup of the Wikidojo exercise we did last month. Your comments welcome, if he missed anything! http://wikistrategies.net/ghost-town-royals-wikidojo

Invitation to the Bay Area WikiSalon series, Wednesday, August 31

Please join us in downtown San Francisco!
A Wikipedia panel discussion about journalism

Hi folks,

We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.

We make sure to allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages and light snacks. We will also have a brief presentation for your education and possible enjoyment:

  • Former EFF intern Marta Belcher will discuss crowdsourcing her Stanford Law School graduation speech using a wiki. The "WikiSpeech" was the subject of prominent national media attention in 2015, and more than half of her classmates contributed to writing and editing the commencement address via a wiki.

Please note: You should register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on the I.D. part. This also helps us figure out how much food and drink to bring in! Feel free to stop by even if only to say a quick hello, but you might have to give us a last minute call if you forget to RSVP. Also, don't be shy about hitting us up if you have thoughts on speakers or wiki-related activities.

For further details, see: Wikipedia:Bay Area WikiSalon, August 2016

Hoping you might look at Weller Pottery

Hello Deborah,

I noticed you had created Shawnee Pottery and I'm hoping you might have time to look at Weller Pottery. I had created a bio of the founder, Samuel Weller, and last winter I put some effort into developing the article on the pottery that bears his name, but it's still only a little better than pitiful. The main problem, as I see it, is the series of lists naming the pottery's lines. I haven't figured out whether these lists are more useless than useful. If the reader is a collector, maybe the lists are useful, and would be better with some relevant images, but for the general audience the lists without annotation are somewhat off-putting, I think. I've hesitated to be BOLD and delete them, so I decided to seek the opinion of another editor. I will, of course, understand if you decline. Cheers! — Mary (aka Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 03:47, 15 September 2016 (UTC))[reply]

Hello Grand'mere Eugene,
I am honored you asked me my opinion on the article about Weller Pottery. I have a couple of small Weller items myself, as we collect green Arts & Crafts pottery. I also have some Shawnee Pottery Corn King pieces, probably 8 - 10 items total. You asked about the importance of listing the various lines of Weller Pottery. If someone is a collector, this information is helpful. Not everyone's cup of tea, but there is value to the information being included in the article.
