Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors
Please post error reports regarding only what is currently or imminently on the Main Page. For general discussion about the Main Page, please use its talk page. |
Most issues relating to national variations of the English language have already been discussed here at length:
|
To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 17:40 on 15 September 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.
Errors in the summary of the featured article
[edit]Article says: "Despite Fatimid attempts to make common cause with the Crusaders, the Seljuks advanced south and captured Jerusalem in July 1099 and defeated the Fatimid army at the Battle of Ascalon."
It should be the Crusaders, not the Seljuks, who captured Jerusalem and won the battle of Ascalon, as written in the linked Siege of Jerusalem (1099) and Battle of Ascalon. The sentence in the header of the original al-Musta'li article is rather ambiguously written ("the latter"), but the main text of the article is pretty clearly referring to the Crusaders.

[edit]- Typhoon Yagi Death toll rises to 840 again. HurricaneEdgar 12:10, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Flooding following a dam collapse in Borno State, Nigeria, leaves at least 30 people dead. I think the bigger story here is that 400,000+ are displaced, no? That fact is cited in Borno State flooding. Therapyisgood (talk) 14:06, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]- File:Marilyn Monroe photo pose Seven Year Itch.jpg: this ran as POTD on 9 September. I feel like the same image being run on the main page currently at OTD so close together is a bit bad form. Therapyisgood (talk) 01:04, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- I agree. I'll be away from my computer for a while, but I just requested Commons protection for an image usable for the L&M Railroad item. If that's suitable, hopefully someone else can swap images once protection kicks in. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 02:11, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
