Information icon Hello, I'm Kkj11210. I noticed that you recently removed some content from List of Quebec Nordiques general managers without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 1954 FIFA World Cup qualification (UEFA – Group 4), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Stade Municipal. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Football leagues in Asia, Africa by season

Hi Djln: Re the category Category:Football leagues in Asia by season , what format should they be? Either Category: 2008–09 Asian association football leagues or Category: 1934–35 Asian domestic association football leagues. Either OK to me, perhaps the latter ( .... Asian domestic association football leagues), but they should be the same throughout the main category. I was creating some more, and then noticed the variation between seasons. Hugo999 (talk) 12:09, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cekli & Djin: Re the category Category:Football leagues in Asia by season , what format should they be? At present both Category: 2008–09 Asian association football leagues and Category: 1934–35 Asian domestic association football leagues. Either OK to me, perhaps the latter, but they should be the same throughout the main category. I was creating some more, and then noticed the variation between seasons. Yes, I favour shorter category titles and "domestic" seems unnessary for the Asian, African and European league subcategories, though perhaps in line with the European categories how about retaining “association and having and "20xx-xx in African association football leagues". and "20xx-xx in Asian association football leagues". This would mean changing the African categories to omit “domestic” and adding "in" to all the Asian categories. plus removing “domestic” to the earlier ones. Could be done by speedy renaming or just the author deleting the categories that each of us have created? Hugo999 (talk) 09:41, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Will arrange speedy renaming to take out "domestic" and add "in" shortly Hugo999 (talk) 00:24, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Now all up for speedy renaming Hugo999 (talk) 04:01, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Football leagues in Brazil, Peru by season

Hi Djin: Re the categories by year eg Category:2010 in Brazilian football leagues and Category:2010 in Peruvian football leagues, I have modified them to include navigation boxes to other years. However for Brazil I would favour only two per year for Brazil as for Peru with any Brazilian competions & cups included in the main category eg Category:2010 in Brazilian football. These categories for cmpetitions & cups are fairly small and are included in the main “by year” category even for England with all its articles, so the English leagues categories by year go to the main by year category. Indonesian football leagues

Hi, the revert was done since you removed already existing categories and also adding incorrect seasons that doesnt apply for Indonesian competitions. Recently the season are run during a a calender year and not starting mid-year as in Europe. It is of course no problem to add more categories, but please keep the existing ones as they have been consistently used for a while now. Thank you! MbahGondrong (talk) 20:21, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please point out which ones are the mess and which standard should it follow? Did you even check whats inside the existing categories? Please dont force your personal opinion, and just because you created these new categories doesnt mean it is correct. As I said, if you want to improve the categories than you are much welcome to add more, but please leave the already existing as it is. MbahGondrong (talk) 20:31, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You have blanked the page without explanation. If you don't like the article, remove it, but not blank.Xx236 (talk) 07:16, 9 June 2015 (UTC) OK, but if you want to delete an article you ask for deletion.Xx236 (talk) 11:14, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Years in rugby league

I have added navogation boxes to aid navigation by year from 2010 onwards for three categories, Category:2010 in rugby league by country, Category:2010 in rugby league by club, and Category:2010 NRL season.. They also help in extending or checking for new categories. Hugo999 (talk) 14:08, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'd like to ask you about your move of the article mentioned above. "Bangladesh Premier League" is the official name of the league, so to me it seems more appropriate for it to be disambiguated with (football) at the end, rather than placing "Football" in the middle of the title. Dublin Womens Soccer League

Yes verifiability not truth and all that, but personally I'd extend the principle of charity in this instance. They know how to run the former de facto top soccer league in Ireland, but not how to use apostrophes, it would appear! Personally I'd get rid of the little buggers and that's the way it's going I think... Anyway, I'd like to congratulate you on your recent work and your new status as the probably world's foremost authority on women's soccer in Ireland. Ok, you haven't got much competition (yet) but Rome wasn't built in a day and you've got in on the ground floor. As a consummate, dyed-in-the-wool Wikipedian, I'm sure it's not your priority, but you are doing a great service for Irish football. SevcoFraudsters (talk) 02:09, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Use of non-free images

Hi Djln. I just want to let you know that I hid the non-free logo File:GalwayWFClogo.png from being displayed in User:Djln/sandbox per WP:User pages#Non-free images. Each usage of a non-free image is required to satisfy all 10 non-free content criteria and such logos are only allowed to be used in the article mainspace per WP:NFCC#9. Such images may be linked to when being discussed, etc. outside the article namespace, but they should not be "displayed". Sometimes when an editor copies article content into their infobox to work, they copy the images in the article as well. That's why it's generally a good idea to check the licensing of any images to make sure. Anyway, if you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask them here or at Wikipedia:Media Copyright Questions. Thank you for your understanding. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:01, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You have been here, IIRC, longer than me, so should know full well that adding masses of unsourced content to an article is not productive. I'm not being an "arse", I'm being dilligent. Connacht Cup disambiguation pages

I see that you reverted my edits to Connacht Cup, Connacht Senior Cup and Connaught Cup. When intentionally linking to a disambiguation page from another disambiguation page, the link should use the (disambiguation) redirect (per WP:DDAB). This allows those of us at WP:DPL (and the bots that help us) to know that the links are intentional, and it also allows the reader to know that those pages in the See also section are disambiguation pages. -Niceguyedc Go Huskies! 19:43, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Mooretwin: Yes it was discussed. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 101#Galway United Merger. It is ridulous having multiple articles, using titles nobody uses in the real world. Djln Djln (talk) 14:08, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Like Cork City F.C. (1938–1940)? I don't think it's ridiculous that each club should have its own article, but I do think it's ridiculous to pass off two different clubs as one and the same: a distortion of history. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Tavix (talk) 19:56, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for October 3

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dessie Glynn, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Peter Farrell. New Page Reviewer granted

Hello Djln. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator.

information Administrator note You have been grandfathered to this group based on prior patrolling activity - the technical flag for the group will be added to your account after the next software update. You do not need to apply at WP:PERM. 20:56, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Question

Hello. I decided to talk to two admins, you and another person on the same subject. I asked about the KTFF 50th Anniversary Cup your version is very good, even the version in Persian.

But I note that the French version Coupe du 50e anniversaire de la KTFF of that problem, I would like to understand why? There are 14 reliable sources in 2 sources (Article 1 and 8) are two books that talks about a tournament on the 50 years of the federation and the other book on the team, 2 works speak of the competition.

The seventh source shows Yucel Hatay, known for writing several books on "Cyprus Turkish Football Association", "football in North Cyprus" and the "Northern Cyprus national football team".

The arguments given by those who are against this article, leaves desired. They say Sourcing very poor, anecdotal ....

Yet there were competitions around the world or there was a single edition that is on Wikipedia, sometimes with no sources. I admit to having trouble understanding for the latter. The two books are definitely the best sources.

Cordially. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:E34:EE0E:ABD0:F48F:1CC6:E35A:1ABD (talk) 17:24, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Djln,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 809 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Djln,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 809 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Ways to improve Denmark women's national under-17 football team

Hi, I'm DrStrauss. Djln, thanks for creating Denmark women's national under-17 football team!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Hi, I've reviewed your page. It's great but could do with some expansion - maybe a list of the current squad? Thanks!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 18,511 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
  • Some editors are committing to work specifically on patrolling new pages on 15 July. If you have not reviewed new pages in a while, this might be a good time to be involved. Please remember that quality of patrolling is more important than quantity, that the speedy deletion criteria should be followed strictly, and that ovetagging for minor issues should be avoided.

National single-season categories

Hello. I see you have been adding national single-season categories such as here. Two points - per WP:REDNOT you shouldn't be adding red-linked categories anywhere. Either create the category, or change the link to a more general one such as XXXX in YYYYYY sport. Also there's a well-established convention here, here, here and here that national single-season categories should not be created except for some of the big countries where there's a reasonable chance of it not being a WP:SMALLCAT. Cheers. Le Deluge (talk) 14:52, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Le Deluge: Argentina is a "big country". Ranked top ten in rugby union playing countries. As is Ireland. Romania is a top twenty ranked rugby union playing. Spain has enough articles to justify creating categories. These discussions are a nonsense. Djln Djln (talk) 15:14, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's nothing to do with where they are ranked, but the number of articles they generate per season. Even England (with articles on youth and women's competitions) only generates ~17 articles per season, when a "good" category has 30-50 articles. It really tails off as you go back in time, certainly beyond 30 years ago, so I can understand the logic of eg Ireland only having season categories since the millennium. You may think those discussions are nonsense but they're the current consensus - if you want to change that consensus then you should start a discussion at WP:CFD.Le Deluge (talk) 19:03, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Le Deluge: So what are saying. Every category with less than 30 articles should be deleted. This is nonsense. You would be talking about deleting thousands of categories currently on Wikipedia. All you are doing is stating your own opinion and claiming it as consensus. You are perhaps right about categories going 30 plus years back but in more recent years I disagree. The categories I created are subcategories of other categories which in turn are part of larger Wiki sports projects. According to WP:SMALLCAT this acceptable. Munster templates

Hi there @Djln:, I just thought I'd let you know that I've made some slight tweaks to the Munster templates that you have edited today. I see you changed the background colours to blue, but this really isn't an appropriate colour, given that Munster play in red and have a famous rivalry with a team that plays in blue, hence why blue isn't an appropriate colour. I have changed the background colour to red, but I haven't changed anything else. Kind regards, MunsterFan2011 (talk) 17:37, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @MunsterFan2011: Blue is defo a Munster colour so was an absolutely an appropriate choice. Totally irrelevant what colours other teams wear. I am watching Munster play now in blue sleeves and blue shorts. I also note that their team shield is blue. However I am ok with your change. My main concern is the templates are readable and the blue/red combo was'nt Djln Djln (talk) 17:44, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there Djln, I reverted your change to add colours again; there is a long-standing WikiProject Rugby Union policy of no colours allowed in squad template navboxes. A few discussions were previously held re this, eg. here and here. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 00:41, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TheMightyPeanut: Really! A small handful of editors have something against colour and they call it a "long standing policy" or consensus. Absolute nonsense. Perfectly acceptable to include colour. Thousands of sports templates include colour all across Wiki. You are being ridiculous. Djln Djln (talk) 13:55, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Djln, firstly, thanks for maintaining this as a civil conversation by becoming insulting and dismissive. Secondly, if it really is "ridiculous" and "absolute nonsense" and just a handful of editors that are against it and it's perfectly acceptable, then surely you should get a groundswell of support if you reignite the discussion at WP:RU? That way, it can be adopted as the new consensus and debates like this can be avoided in future? TheMightyPeanut (talk) 22:29, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Djln, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12,878 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a day.
  • We have successfully cleared the backlog of pages created by non-confirmed accounts before ACTRIAL. Thank you to everyone who participated in that drive.

Technology update:

  • Primefac has created a script that will assist in requesting revision deletion for copyright violations that are often found in new pages. For more information see User:Primefac/revdel.

Djln, Hi. I see that you have removed all the Rugby union in England templates from the bottom of these pages. These have been added to all rugby union league pages in England to enable easy navigation of all leagues and also helps when editing competitions. I think you probably removed them so that you could see the National League 2 North/South templates more clearly but these pages have taken quite a lot of work to get consistent so please can you leave a message when doing edits of these types so to avoid issues in the future. Thanks. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 11:19, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Djln, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
  • Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!

Outreach and Invitations:

  • If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with: {{subst:NPR invite}}. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.

New Year New Page Review Drive

  • A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
  • Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
  • The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

New Years new page backlog drive

Hello Djln, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

  • The total number of reviews completed for the month.
  • The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.

NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Disambiguation link notification for January 2

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2008 Women's Six Nations Championship, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Sarah Gill and Amy Turner (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Rasta Rasivhenge

He didn't just "work in Australia". He represented Australia as a referee. That makes him an Australian referee. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 21:36, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @TheMightyPeanut: No it does'nt. He did'nt change nationality just because he worked for a different national union. Referees don't represent their nations. They are employed by national unions. Djln Djln (talk) 21:47, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • National unions have employees; players, referees, etc., who then in turn represent said national union. No one ever said he changed nationality. However, that doesn't not make him an Australian referee. Using your logic, how would you classify Steve Walsh then? TheMightyPeanut (talk) 22:00, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @TheMightyPeanut: Walsh is a different case. Spent considerable time in both countries but did he change nationality because he changed employee. He is clearly a New Zealander though. Rasivhenge was only briefly in Australia before returning to South Africa. Djln Djln (talk) 22:06, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Walsh is in no way a different case to Rasivhenge. Both were nationals of one country, but refereed for another country. Neither of them changed nationality. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 22:17, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • @TheMightyPeanut: Referees don't "referee for a country". They are independent officials. Which union they are employed by is totally irrelevant when it comes to deciding their nationality. Maybe the solution would be to create additional referee categories such as "Category:SARU referees", "Category:ARU referees" or "Category:Super Rugby referees" etc.Djln Djln (talk) 14:19, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • An Australian referee does not necessarily have Australian nationality. Again, back to Steve Walsh (who's obviously from New Zealand; I have no idea if he got Australian citizenship – probably not, but completely irrelevant. This article – from a reliable source – classes Steve Walsh as "an Australian referee". This article says "originally from New Zealand but registered as an Australian referee" clearly refers to a referee that doesn't (as far as I know) have Australian nationality as an Australian referee. That's two sources to illustrate that reliable sources refer to someone representing (or sorry "employed by") a different country, as a referee from that country. If you have reliable sources that still refers to Steve Walsh as "a New Zealand referee" during the 2009 to 2012 period that he was employed by the ARU, feel free to mention them. Similarly with Rasta Rasivhenge in 2014. By the way, here and here that indicates Rasivhenge as Australian. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 22:09, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @TheMightyPeanut: You've gone way off on tanget here. Sounds like you have a bit an obsession with Walsh. Just because some journalists failed to do their research, does'nt mean Wiki editors have to drop to their standards. Just because someone moves to a different country, does'nt mean they have changed their nationality. I offered a solution to resolve situation which you have just ignored and decided to go off on a rant instead. Djln Djln (talk) 14:53, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • For the umpteenth time, I fully agree with you re "Just because someone moves to a different country, does'nt mean they have changed their nationality." I don't have any kind of obsession with Walsh, but he would be by miles the best example to use for someone that has nationality of one country, but refereed for another country, since he did this for a longer period of time, and he achieved more in his role as a referee for another country. How do you regard the text "originally from New Zealand but registered as an Australian referee" as journalists not doing research? Just because you don't agree with the commonly-accepted widely-accepted and frequently-used definition of "an Australian referee" (amongst reliable sources as quoted above), doesn't mean all Wiki editors have to fall in line with your definition, which is inconsistent too, since you think that Walsh is OK being regarded as Australian, but Rasivhenge isn't. Your solution would probably suffice too, I don't have a problem with that, but I think it's unnecessary. Feel free to bring your proposal to WP:Referee and/or WP:RU. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 22:27, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @TheMightyPeanut: I would describe Walsh as "a New Zealand referee who has represented both the NZR and the ARU" and Rasivhenge as "a South African referee who has represented both the SARU and the ARU". In fact I have seen lots of incidents, both on Wiki and in the media, where referees are listed as "name (Union)" with no mention of nationality. Walsh spent considerable time in Australia, may have even become naturalised as an Australian, hence explaining why he might be referred to as Australian, Rasivhenge was in Australia for about five minutes. Big difference. If you can't see this difference, I can't help you. Djln (talk) 19:30, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • "In fact I have seen lots of incidents, both on Wiki and in the media, where referees are listed as "name (Union)" with no mention of nationality." Yes, that is the key thing here. Other than you, no one refers to a referee by his nationality, but rather than the country he represents (or is employed by). I can see the difference between a long period of time and a short period of time, thanks. What I don't know, however, is what is the cut-off when you can be considered as a referee for a country, in your opinion then? So far, I've established that a year is too short, but six years is long enough. What's the magic number? Also, the usage of "may" and "might" in your argument doesn't seem overly encyclopedic. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 22:43, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @TheMightyPeanut: I used "may" and "might" in a conversation not in an article. Talk about being pedantic. Plenty of articles, media, wiki refer to referees by their nationality. Wiki has a whole category listing referees by nationality. Are you really saying I am the first person to do this ? Absolute nonsense. If a referee changes his/her nationalty then it is legitimate to refer to them by their new nationality. However there is no clear evidence either of the two examples cited here have done that. Djln Djln (talk) 15:03, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • You are the first person that I'm aware of to argue that "Australian referee" strictly means that the referee has Australian citizenship, rather than one refereeing for Australia, yes. You just said "Plenty of articles, media, wiki refer to referees by their nationality." Yet, in your previous reply you said "referees are listed as "In fact I have seen lots of incidents, both on Wiki and in the media, where referees are listed as "name (Union)" with no mention of nationality.". Now I'm really confused as to your argument – do plenty of articles refer to a referee's nationality, or do plenty of articles have no mention of nationality? TheMightyPeanut (talk) 23:07, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @TheMightyPeanut: I am going to end this conversation now. You are just going round in circles and making no sense and spouting nonsense. If I am really the "first person" you know to argue that "Australian referee" strictly means that the referee has Australian citizenship then you need to get more. Djln Djln (talk) 15:37, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • As above, I demonstrated how you were going round in circles making no sense and spouting nonsense by using actual examples. You have now made several generalised airy-fairy claims that you don't back up or seem to be able to back up. But anyway, seems like I need to get more. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 22:29, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, now it's a complete mess. Have a look at Template:South African referees. The template name is "South African referees" which (according to you, based on above comments) refer to referees of South African nationality, yet the navbox caption reads "South African Rugby Union referees" which (according to you, based on above comments) refer to referees of any nationality refereeing for the South African Rugby Union. You are now mixing up your own criteria. The categories and contain a vastly different subset of articles, although I can't see why. Might I also point out that referees in South Africa are not actually employed by the South African Rugby Union either? They work for an organisation called the South African Rugby Referees Association (SARRA)? TheMightyPeanut (talk) 02:35, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, while we're at it, can you please explain this edit? Since (again, by your logic) the country refers to a referee's nationality (and not governing body he represents or works for), then surely Andrew Brace is British, and not Welsh, since Welsh is not a nationality? So why are you adding referees to a category that neither refers to his nationality, or his employers? TheMightyPeanut (talk) 05:21, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Alan Lewis

Hi Djln

I am trying to follow what has happened at Alan Lewis. It looks like you wanted to create a disambiguation page. If you do that it is better to move the pages, not to copy and paste. If you delete the information then the history of the page is very confusing to follow. AIRcorn (talk) 20:43, 1 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There has definitely been some copy and paste moves going on so I have reverted it back as best I could. I did this now otherwise it may have to be history merged. I have no problem with turning it into a disambig, but the pages need to be moved to there locations not copy pasted. See Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia for more info. I have to shoot off now, but will look back into this later when I have some more time. AIRcorn (talk) 21:32, 1 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Aircorn: Can't believe what you done. Absolutely nonsense explanation for reverting edits. It is perfectly legitimate to create disambiguation page. All you have done is creat bigger mess then there was to start with. All because you are being pedantic. Djln Djln (talk) 02:01, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not nonsense at all, having proper attribution is part of Wikipedias licensing agreement and Terms of Use. Please read the above link. By cutting and pasting you create work for other people to fix. If someone had in good faith edited your pasted version then an admin would have to do a history merge, so I decided a revert was the best approach. You are welcome to be angry with me, but in the future please don't copy and paste. Most of the time the same result can be achieved with a move. If you do need to copy and paste at the very least a more informative edit summary is needed. Cheers AIRcorn (talk) 06:41, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I moved Alan Lewis to Alan Lewis (referee) and turned it into the disambiguation page. I could not use Alan Lewis (cricket and rugby union) as it required advanced permissions to make it work. I think referee is a better term as we usually disambiguate by profession anyway. If you still prefer "cricket and rugby" then you will have to ask an admin to make the move (I don't really care which is used). It should be the same result as you tried to achieve, but when you click on the history tab it displays everyone who edited the page[1] whereas previously it showed you as the major contributor.[2] I know it is a pain, but please believe me that this is important. A tag has been placed on Category:United States at the FIBA Basketball World Cup requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —swpbT go beyond 16:17, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello Djln, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Invitation to participate in study

Hello,

I am E. Whittaker, an intern at Wikimedia with the Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. A full write-up of the study can be found here: m:Research:Civil_Behavior_Interviews. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages. Would you be interested in being interviewed? I am contacting you because of your involvement in Wikipedia’s Women in Red project. The interviews should take ~1 hour, and will be conducted over BlueJeans (which does allow interviews to be recorded). If, so, please email me at ewhit@umich.edu in order to schedule an interview.

Denmark women ODI cricketers

Hi, Inger Neilsen, Susanne Neilsen and Vibeke Neilsen all have their surname misspelled it should be Nielsen, I do realise that the names are also misspelled on CrockInfo. I could fix the Individual pages but I don't know haw to catch all the pages that links to them, and since you recently showed some interest in updating some relevant pages I hoped you could help fix their names. Moedk (talk) 21:46, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank your help, to get it moving, now I have a better idea how to get the fixed. I'll go forward with Lugnuts suggestion at the end of the week as I'm not home a.t.m. I the mean time I'm wondering if it woldn't be wise to revert the renaming if Inger Neilsen, as your renamig of the page made me aware if the singer Inger Nielsen and she is probably more noteworthy. i hope you are OK with a revert? Again thank for help which gave me a better understanding of how is should be done, a knowledge I lagged, when I asked for your help. Moedk (talk) 17:31, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

England women's cricket team

Hi Djln, I see that you have been doing a great job working in the category space, however I must request that you revert the changes you have done regarding the England women's cricket team categories. As Wales is not a member of the ICC but rather part of the England and Wales Cricket Board, Welsh cricketers play international matches for the England cricket team and the England women's cricket team. It was also decided to drop the "national" from the article title for this reason. Similar to Ireland and the West Indies. Note: I have already reverted the page move. This paper gives an great insight on the current situation and what Wales would need to do in order to join the ICC. Happy editing. – Ianblair23 (talk) 01:36, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Ianblair23: Respectively I disagree with some of your interpretations. While the West Indies is not a nation, England, Wales and Ireland are all nations. The England women's national cricket team represents England and the Wales women's national cricket team represents Wales. If their was a joint national team it would be called the "England and Wales women's cricket team" but it doesn't exist. The fact that Welsh-born players are also eligible to represent England is irrelevant. With regards to Ireland team it should include the word "national" in the title, just like it is included in every other Ireland national sports team. I will not be reverting any changes I have made. Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. (Purge)

Hello Djln, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules
  • New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
  • Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
  • Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
Editathons
  • Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
The Signpost
  • The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. Templates

Hey, because it is just an overview about who participated. I created the "correct" one like for every ohter team here. I do like the table for the main article which it is. Kante4 (talk) 16:03, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Kante4:, I don't understand what you trying to say. Both templates were absolutely fine before you messed with them. Djln Djln (talk) 16:11, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No. None template was done the way it should have (like all others). I have just created a template which is fine. And no need to have two templates, once like now is enough. I could have moved one, that's true. Kante4 (talk) 16:32, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have now fixed it. The squad template has a (better name) and the other for the players is corrected. Kante4 (talk) 16:36, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No need to have two templates but i left both, just removed a category. Then add the correct flag, no problem. But we should stick to for that is done to every other single field hockey template. Kante4 (talk) 16:50, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is not possible to change flag with your version of template. That is why I created the first version. Djln Djln (talk) 16:53, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Got you. Inserted the old one under the correct name. Kante4 (talk) 16:56, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully all is settled and we can continue building wikipedia. ;) I really like the squad template used for the main article. (P.S.: Reflist automatically wraps into columns if needed). Kante4 (talk) 17:21, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello Djln, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news
As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.
Other
Moving to Draft and Page Mover
  • Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
  • If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
  • Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
  • The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
  • The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.
List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

  • Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
  • In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions.
  • MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues.
  • User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
  • User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
  • User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you.
  • User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link.
  • User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion.
  • User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

Mardyke move

Hello. You recently moved Mardyke (UCC) to The Mardyke. This was effectively a unilateral reversal of a previous consensus change (discussed and agreed as part of this RM thread some years ago). Are you aware of something that has transpired (in the years since) which negates the concerns of the editor who opened the RM discussion? Which, to paraphrase, was that WP:THE recommends against having two different articles, where one is prefixed with "the" and the other is not. The outcome of the RM was - in effect - the change that you have now reverted. Given that I cannot see the rationale for this unilateral move (in an edit summary or talk page or similar), could you at least please consider adding a note to the relevant talk page? To explain your reversal of the original consensus and policy-based title? So that other editors (either those who were involved in the original RM or otherwise) can consider that rationale? Thanks. A tag has been placed on Category:American football teams in New South Wales requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello Djln, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

Backlog

As of 21 October 2018, there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.

Community Wishlist Proposal
Project updates
  • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello Djln,

Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
  • Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Djln. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

An article you recently created, Turkey women's national field hockey team, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Boleyn (talk) 17:49, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, Djln, the comment I wrote here earlier doesn't seem to have saved. As I wrote, your creation has not been deleted. It was moved from the mainspace to the draftspace, as it was assessed at New Page Patrol as not yet ready, but needing time and space to be worked on. It has no references at all, and references are really important. Can you please add these? Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 20:02, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Boleyn: I did not create this article. I merely restored it. While it is nowhere near up to standard as an article, the subject is legitimate and notable. Absolutely no reason it should have been deleted. There are hundreds of articles on Wikipedia that are little more than stubs. Should we delete all of them. ? Djln Djln (talk) 18:13, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Djln, I think you've misunderstood - it's not been deleted, it's been moved, which is wht we do at New Page Patrol when an article has postential, but is nowhere near up to standard as an article. It can then be worked on in draftspace, often by the creator and the New Page Patroller, often by others, and can then be moved back when it's ready. This really isn't ready for the mainspace. Boleyn (talk) 20:49, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Boleyn: Sorry, I haven't misunderstood anything. I agree totally that article needs work. But it is currently at a reasonable enough state not to be deleted. Placing it in draft limbo is pointless as editors willing to work on it will not be able to find it. I only came across it by chance. Djln Djln (talk) 14:33, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018

Hello Djln,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

England Hockey League

Hello and thank you for carrying out the recent split. I've been looking at the links which now point to the disambiguation page. I've diverted many of them to the Men's or Women's league. (The phrase doesn't seem to be used for ice hockey.) However, this still leaves about 70 bad links. A typical one is in Canterbury: both men's 1st XI and women's 1st XI compete in the England Hockey League. I split these for Kent but the result is clumsy and a bit of an easter egg. Do we point the links at England Hockey, or perhaps England Hockey#Competitions, or do you have a better idea? Certes (talk) 23:49, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello Djln,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello Djln,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019

Hello Djln,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Other news

School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.

Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.
