Ey Reqîb
English: Hey Guard
ئهٔ ره‌قیب
Flag of Kurdistan

Regional anthem of Kurdistan Autonomous Region
LyricsDildar, 1938

"Ey Reqîb" Kurdish: ئهٔ ره‌قیب is the Kurdish national anthem[1]. It was written by the Kurdish poet and political activist, Dildar, in 1938 while in jail. "Ey Reqîb" literally means "Hey Guard", in reference to the jail guards in the prison where Dildar was held and tortured. Sometimes, the title is mistakenly translated in English as "Hey Guardian" or even "Hey Enemy". The song was originally written in Soranî and it is sung in Sorani and sometimes Kurmancî. In 1946, the song was adopted as the official anthem of the Kurdistan Republic of Mahabad, a short-lived, Kurdish state of the 20th century in Iran that lasted for one year[2].

"Ey Reqîb" has been adopted by the Kurdistan Regional Government as the official national anthem of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq[3].

Hey Guard! (English)

(Sometimes translated as "Hey Enemy")

Hey Guard, the Kurdish nation is alive, its language is yet spoken
We shall not be defeated by the weapons of any time
Let no one say Kurds are no more
The Kurds are alive
The Kurds are alive, their flag will never fall
We, the youth are the red colour of the revolution
Look how much blood we have been forced to shed
Let no one say Kurds are no more
The Kurds are alive
The Kurds are alive, their flag will never fall
We are the children of the Medes and Kai Khosrow(Cyaxares)
Both our faith and religion are our homeland
Both our faith and religion are Kurd and Kurdistan
Let no one say Kurds are no more
The Kurds are alive
The Kurds are alive, their flag will never fall
The Kurdish youth have risen like lions
To adorn the crown of life with blood
Let no one say Kurds are no more
The Kurds are alive
The Kurds are alive, their flag will never fall
The Kurdish youth are ever present and
Forever will be ready to sacrifice our lives
They will sacrifice each life they have, each life they have!
