This location is approximately 8 kilometres (5.0 mi), by road, northeast of Kampala's central business district.[1] The coordinates of Ntinda are:00 20 51N, 32 37 48E (Latitude:0.3475; Longitude:32.6300). Ntinda lies in Nakawa Division, one of the five administrative divisions within the city of Kampala.

History

During the 1960s and 1970s, Ntinda was a small trading center with a few shops, a farmers market and several housing estates for employees of the East African Railways. A famous General Medical Practitioner, Dr. David N. Kiremerwa, one of East Africa's first medical doctors, had an office in the trading center. His legacy continues today, through his three physician grand children; brother and sister team: Dr. Brett Kintu, a Paediatrician in the United Kingdom, and Dr. Natasha Nakimera, a Public Health Specialist in Uganda, plus their cousin Dr. Fred Magezi, an Infectious Disease Specialist in the UK.

After the regime changes in the country in the 1980s, Ntinda became attractive to the well-to-do and upscale residential neighborhoods began to spring up in the area. One such residential neighborhood had so many Uganda Cabinet Ministers taking up residence that it became known as Ministers Village. Today, one of the residents of the area is none other than the former Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Professor Gilbert Bukenya Balibaseka, who owns a home in the area.[2] During the 1990s, the area between Ntinda and Nakawa has been built into an upscale commercial area and today it houses one of Kampala's upscale shopping malls called Commercial Plaza.
