As of 6 March 2020, a total of 98,370 cases were confirmed in 87 countries and territories, including 17,831 cases outside of mainland China.

Statistics

Africa

Cases have been confirmed in Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.

Asia

The 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak was first manifested by a cluster of mysterious pneumonia in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei in Mainland China from where it spread to other provinces in China.[citation needed] Afterwards, many Asian countries started to report cases, with some of the most affected countries being China, South Korea, Japan, and Iran, which has the highest number of deaths of any Asian country outside of Mainland China (officially 107, as of 5 March).[2][3][4][5]

Europe

Initial cases in Europe were reported in France and in Germany and other countries with relatively low number of cases. On 21 February, a large outbreak was reported in Italy, mostly in the north, near Milan. As of 1 March, there have been 2191 confirmed cases and 36 deaths in Europe, the vast majority being in Italy. As of 3 March, there have been 2,502 confirmed cases and 79 deaths in Italy.[6][7] Cases were recorded in Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, and most other European countries.[8][9][10]

North America

Canada

As of 5 March, there have been 45 cases of coronavirus reported in Canada, all of which were either in British Columbia, Ontario, or Québec, with a presumptive case in Alberta. [11] All cases had recent travel history to a country with a substantial number of coronavirus cases. Of these cases, eight (5 in British Columbia, 3 in Ontario) have recovered.[12]

Dominican Republic

On 1 March, the first case in the country and the Caribbean was confirmed. A 62-year-old man from Italy entered the country on 22 February and fell ill on 24 February, when he was transferred to Ramón Lara military hospital.[13]

French Overseas Territories

Total four cases: Two cases of the coronavirus were confirmed on March 1, in the French administered Saint-Martin, having traveled from France through Dutch Sint Maarten and Saint Barthélemy, where they infected their son who is a resident. They then returned to Sint Maarten and were detected at the airport and transferred to French Saint Martin hospital for isolation.[14] Guadeloupe reported one case.[15]

Mexico

On 28 February, Mexico confirmed its first three cases. A 35-year-old man and a 59-year-old man in Mexico City and a 41-year-old man in the northern state of Sinaloa tested positive and were held in isolation at a hospital and a hotel, respectively. They both had travelled to Bergamo and stayed in Italy for a week in mid-February.[16][17][18][19] On February 29, a fourth case was detected and confirmed in the city of Torreón, in the state of Coahuila, from a 20-year-old woman who traveled to Italy.[20] On 1 March, a fifth case was announced in Chiapas in a student who had just returned from Italy.[21]

United States

On 29 February, officials of Washington State confirmed the first reported death from coronavirus in the US.[23]

On 2 March, King County, Washington declared a state of emergency and reported it had 14 confirmed cases of the virus, and also reported 5 deaths.[24] The Oregon Health Authority also reported the third new presumptive cases of COVID-19 in the state, a Umatilla County man hospitalized in Walla Walla, Washington.[25]

Oceania

Australia

As of 2 March 2020, there were 33 confirmed cases in Australia: 9 in Queensland, 9 in Victoria, 9 in New South Wales, 3 in South Australia and 3 in Western Australia. 15 of these cases are reported to have recovered while 1 has died. The remaining cases are in a stable condition. 10 cases are associated with the Diamond Princess repatriation flight from Japan. All have since returned to their home states for medical treatment.[26][27]

On 1 March 2020, it was reported that a 78-year-old man from Western Australia, who was a passenger of the Diamond Princess, had become the first person to die of coronavirus in Australia.[28][26]

Australia is screening passengers arriving from multiple locations. On 1 February, the federal government began refusing entry to foreigners who had been to China in the previous 14 days. On 1 March, the government announced they are expanding the ban to include foreigners who had been to Iran in the past 14 days, while Australian citizens who have been to the area are to quarantine themselves.[citation needed]

She is currently in serious condition and with reserved prognosis. More details about the woman and the hospital where she is located were not disclosed due to security measures. 80 people who were with the infected woman are also being studied.[37][38]
