Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Genericusername57 (talk | contribs) at 01:14, 15 January 2024 (→‎Current DYK: reporting an error). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 12:46 on 17 May 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"

  • Can we remove the link to president of Taiwan? It's the least important, and both of the other articles link to it fairly prominently. The article itself is fairly general and does not provide essential context for readers of the Main Page. It only gives a WP:SEA OF BLUE. 🌺 Cremastra (talk) 23:04, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support that. I'd support removing all of the "Job of Country" links we have in ITN, but this one in particular causes the maximal SOB issue. These link removals are sometimes controversial, so I'm hoping another admin will agree this one (or all of them) is best removed. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 23:07, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:SEAOFBLUE only suggests not putting links together to avoid appearing like a single link. Given there's a few words and a bold link in the middle, that's not the case here. Other opinions may vary. Stephen 23:57, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Stephen; this isn’t a case of SOB. The Ecuador item suffers from SOB, though. Schwede66 00:19, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just lost that one for balance in any case. Stephen 00:32, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
