A film (British English)—also called a movie (American English), motion picture, moving picture, picture, photoplay, or flick—is a work of visual art that simulates experiences and otherwise communicates ideas, stories, perceptions, emotions, or atmosphere through the use of moving images that are generally accompanied by sound and (less commonly) other sensory stimulations. The word "cinema" is a shortening of the word "cinematography" and is used to refer to either filmmaking, the film industry, the overall art form, or a movie theater. (Full article...)

Russell Ira Crowe (born 7 April 1964) is a New Zealand-born Australian actor, director and musician. He was born in Wellington, and at age 4, moved to Australia residing there permanently. His work on screen has earned him various accolades, including an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and a British Academy Film Award.

Crowe began acting in Australia and had his breakout role in the drama Romper Stomper (1992). He gained international recognition for his starring roles as a police detective in the thriller L.A. Confidential (1997) and Jeffrey Wigand in the drama The Insider (1999). Crowe gained wider stardom for playing the title role in the period film Gladiator (2000), winning the Academy Award for Best Actor. Further acclaim came for portraying mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr. in the biopic A Beautiful Mind (2001). He then starred in the war film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), the sports drama Cinderella Man (2005), the Western 3:10 to Yuma (2007), the crime drama American Gangster (2007), the thriller State of Play (2009), and the action film Robin Hood (2010). During the ceremony, AMPAS presented Academy Awards (commonly referred to as Oscars) in 24 categories. The ceremony, televised in the United States by ABC, was produced by David Hill and Reginald Hudlin and directed by Glenn Weiss. Actor Chris Rock hosted the show for the second time, having previously hosted the 77th ceremony held in 2005.

  Haider is a 2014 Indian crime-drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, and produced by Bhardwaj and Siddharth Roy Kapur. The film stars Shahid Kapoor as the eponymous protagonist, and co-stars Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Shraddha Kapoor, and Irrfan Khan. Bhardwaj wrote the dialogues for the film, and co-wrote the screenplay with Basharat Peer. Bhardwaj also composed the music and Gulzar wrote the lyrics. The film is a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet, and tells the story of Haider who searches for his missing father during the Kashmir conflict of 1995.
  
  Produced on a budget of ₹240 million (US$2.9 million), Haider was released on 2 October 2014, and grossed ₹690 million (US$8.3 million) worldwide. The film garnered awards and nominations in several categories, with particular praise for its direction, performances of Shahid Kapoor and Tabu, music and production design.   Prithviraj Sukumaran is the recent winner in 2024

  
  The Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor is an award, begun in 1969, presented annually at the Kerala State Film Awards of India to an actor for best performance in a Malayalam film. Until 1997, the awards were managed directly by the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Kerala. Since 1998, the awards have been constituted by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, an autonomous, non-profit institution functioning under the Department of Cultural Affairs. The awardees are decided by a jury constituted every year. They are announced by the Minister for Cultural Affairs and are presented by the Chief Minister.
  
  Throughout the years, accounting for ties and repeat winners, the government has presented 54 Best Actor awards to 35 actors. The recipients receive a figurine, a certificate, and a cash prize of ₹100,000 (US$1,200). Several actors have won the honour for more than one film in a given year. As of 2020, the only actor to have won the prize in consecutive years is Bharat Gopy, in 1982 and 1983. (Full article...)

  Raveena Tandon is an Indian actress known for her work in Hindi films. She made her acting debut in the 1991 action film Patthar Ke Phool, which earned her the Filmfare Award for New Face of the Year. This was followed by a series of unsuccessful films including Ek Hi Raasta and Parampara (both 1993). In 1994, she appeared in eight Hindi films, most of them were commercial successes. Among these were two of the top-grossing films – the romantic musical drama Dilwale and the action drama Mohra. The success of the latter marked a turning point in her career, establishing Tandon as a leading actress in Hindi cinema. The same year, her performance in the drama Laadla, earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her other film was the comedy Andaz Apna Apna, which though initially a box office disappointment, attained cult status over the years.
  
  Tandon subsequently played leading roles in the action thrillers Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996) and Ziddi (1997). Both films were among the highest grossing Bollywood films of their respective years. In 1998, she starred opposite Govinda in the commercially successful comedies Dulhe Raja, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Tandon had five film releases in 1999. While the comedy Anari No.1 was a commercial success, her other four releases that year performed poorly at the box office.   Bajirao Mastani won a total of seven National Film Awards at the 63rd National Film Awards including the National Film Award for Best Direction for Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

  
  
  Bajirao Mastani is a 2015 Indian epic historical romance film directed and scored by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was a co-production between Bhansali Productions and Eros International. The film stars Ranveer Singh as Bajirao I, Deepika Padukone as Mastani, and Priyanka Chopra as Kashibai. Tanvi Azmi, Aditya Pancholi, Vaibbhav Tatwawdi and Milind Soman playing supporting roles. The screenplay was written by Prakash R. Kapadia, and the cinematography provided by Sudeep Chatterjee. Based on the Marathi novel Raau by Nagnath S. Inamdar, the film narrates the story of the Maratha Peshwa Bajirao and his second wife Mastani.
  
  Made on a budget of ₹1.25 billion (US$15 million), the film was released on 18 December 2015 to positive reviews from critics. As of May 2016, Bajirao Mastani has grossed over ₹3.6 billion (US$43 million) at the box-office, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. The film garnered awards and nominations in a variety of categories with particular praise for Bhansali's direction and music, the performances of Chopra and Singh, its cinematography, art direction, and costume design.   Blue Is the Warmest Colour (French: La Vie d'Adèle – Chapitres 1 & 2; French pronunciation: [la vi dadɛl ʃapitʁ œ̃n‿e dø]) is a 2013 French romantic coming-of-age drama film directed by Abdellatif Kechiche, and produced by Kechiche, Brahim Chioua, and Vincent Maraval. The screenplay also co-written by Kechiche was based on Jul Maroh's 2010 graphic novel of the same name. Adèle Exarchopoulos stars as a teenager who falls in love with an older woman played by Léa Seydoux.
  
  The film premiered at the 66th Cannes Film Festival on 23 May 2013 where it won the Palme d'Or. For the first time, the jury at Cannes presented the award to three recipients: Kechiche, Exarchopoulos, and Seydoux. At the age of 19, Exarchopoulos became the youngest recipient of the award. The film grossed over €14 million at the worldwide box office on a production budget of €4 million. Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, surveyed 197 reviews and judged 89% to be positive.   The Tree of Life is a 2011 American drama film written and directed by Terrence Malick. The film stars Brad Pitt, who also co-produced the film, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain. It explores the origin and meaning of life through the childhood memories of a middle-aged architect, Jack O'Brien (Penn). Jack questions his faith and seeks to find the purpose to his existence, while reconciling with his domineering father (Pitt); he however shares a gentle relationship with his mother (Chastain). The film's music was composed by Alexandre Desplat, and Emmanuel Lubezki served as the cinematographer.
  
  Made on a budget of $32 million, The Tree of Life premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival on May 16, 2011, where it was initially met with polarized reviews from critics. The film had its theatrical release on May 27, 2011, and earned over $54 million worldwide. Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, surveyed 272 reviews and judged 85% to be positive. The film was nominated for 140 awards, winning 68; its direction, screenplay, cinematography, editing, visual effects, and music, as well as the performances of Pitt and Chastain, received the most attention from award groups.   Amy Adams is an American actress who made her film debut in the 1999 black comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous. She went on to guest star in a variety of television shows, including That '70s Show, Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Office, and also appeared in minor film roles. In 2002, she had her first major role in Steven Spielberg's biographical crime drama Catch Me If You Can. However, the film did not launch her career, as Spielberg had hoped. Three years later, she had her breakthrough by playing a joyful pregnant woman in Junebug (2005), for which she received her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination. Two years later, Adams starred in the Disney romantic comedy Enchanted, for which she was nominated for her first Golden Globe Award for Best Actress (Comedy or Musical).
  
  In 2008, Adams played a naive nun in the drama Doubt, opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep, for which she received her second Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She then appeared in the comedy-drama Julie & Julia, co-starring Streep, and played Amelia Earhart in the adventure comedy sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (both 2009). The following year, she expanded into dramatic roles by playing a tough barmaid in David O. Russell's sports drama The Fighter (2010), which gained her a third Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Following a role in the musical comedy The Muppets (2011), Adams played the strong-willed wife of a cult leader in Paul Thomas Anderson's drama The Master, opposite Hoffman.
