Beanie Festival[edit]

The Beanie Festival is an anual event held in Alice Springs, Australia, at the Alice Springs Araluen arts center. It involves large numbers of people - from all Australian cultures, from all over the country - submitting hand-made unique knit hats (Beanies) designed in any conceivable fashion, from utterly impractical art (giant feathers sprouting from the top) to useful (plain with earflaps and brim). There is a fashion show displaying the beanies. Most are for sale or auction.


Q cycle[edit]

The Q cylce is part of oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria. The letter Q stands for ubiquinone a mobile electron transporter between compartment I and III, or II and III of the electron transport chain. Both at complex I or complex II, two electrons and two protons are pased to ubiquinone reducing it to ubiquinol. During this process, complex I pumps 4 further protons from the matrix into the intermembral space. In contrast, complex II is not directly involved in membrane pumping but is part of the TCA cycle in the matrix. The ubiquinol travels next to complex III and binds to it. Hereby, it passes one electron to cytochrome c and one electrone to a ubiquinone, which is also part of complex three. By this process the ubiquinol is oxidized to ubiquinone again and detaches complex III. It can reenter phosphorylative oxidation. Cytochrome c, just having been reduced, also detaches from complex III and travels to complex IV. The two protons from ubiquinol are pumped into the intermembral space. And, the attached ubiquinone is reduced to a semiquinone radical. Because of the last stepp, the reaction is not fully completed. Another ubiquinol has to attach to complex three, passing one electron to cytochrome c and one to the semiquinone radical. Furthermore, the semiquinone radical takes up two protons from the matrix, reducing it fully to ubiquinol. The two protons from the oxidized ubiquinol are pumped into the intermembral space. Oxidized ubiquinone, and the reduced cytochrome c and ubiquinol detach from complex III and reenter phosphorylative oxidation. The process is cyclic as ubiquinone can be reused again. Overall, four protons are pumped into the intermembral space and two electrons are passed down to complex IV.

Terry Baker[edit]

Terry Baker was a quarterback for the Oregon State University football team during 1960-1962. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1962. He was also a point guard on the Oregon State basketball team and played in the NCAA basketball tournament.

He later played for the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL and the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL.

He is currently a retired lawyer and living in Portland, Oregon.

Gunnar S Overstrom, Jr was a Vice Chairman of FleetBoston Financial(now a part of Bank of America) and the former President and Chief Operating Officer of the Shawmut National Corporation.

As a Vice Chairman of Fleet, Overstrom was instrumental in building the corporation's asset management portfolio and its brokerage and securities business. He spearheaded the acquisition of Quick and Reilly as well as the purchase of Columbia Asset Management.

As President and Chief Operating Officer of Shawmut National, Overstrom helped lead the company in making over 50 acquisitions and building the company from a $2 billion regional bank to a $35 billion super-regional institution with offices in five states. In 1995, Shawmut National merged with the Fleet Financial Group.

Mr. Overstrom graduated from Babson College in Wellsley, MA. He received an L.L.B. from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, MA in addition to a M.A. in Economics from Trinity College in Hartford, CT.

Horsea Island is a small island located south of the estate of Paulsgrove in Portsmouth. It is Home to the Man Made complex of Port Solent Which Boast's Luxury flats, Bars, Restaurants And a man made marina. Also on the island is a refuse tip. Horse Island historically was a much smaller island, and owned by the royal navy and the Ministry Of Defence, but due to vast land fills, reclaimed land and the creation of port solent Horsea island is no longer an island But a peninsula.

Kalok[edit]

Kalok was a hard disk drive manufacturer which went bankrupt in 1994.

One of their last offerings was a 100 megabyte 3.5" disk drive using a stepper motor head actuator (rather than the servo-based voice coil operated actuators used on most drives of that density) and was very limited in both access speed and reliability. The drive was manufactured in India, and was commonly found in very inexpensive generic PCs.

John Williamson[edit]

John Williamson (November 10, 1951 - November 30, 1996) was an American basketball player.

Williamson played high school basketball at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Connecticut and played college basketball at New Mexico State University. He was a 6'2" guard. Williamson was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the 6th round (10th pick) of the 1973 NBA draft but had other plans.

As a rookie Williamson landed with the New York Nets of the American Basketball Association as a free agent for the 1973-74 season. Williamson quickly entered the New York starting lineup despite being a rookie. After Williamson became a starter the team's fortunes quickly turned for the better and the team ended up winning the ABA Championship that season. Williamson was named to the 1974 ABA All-Rookie team.

Continuing with the Nets, Williamson had a remarkable performance in Game 6 of the 1976 ABA Finals. He scored 28 points, with 16 of them coming in the fourth quarter, leading the Nets to come back from 22 points behind to win the game, the series and the ABA championship.

Williamson's jersey number (23) was retired by the New Jersey/New York Nets franchise on December 7, 1990. Only four playes who were with the Nets during their ABA days have had their numbers retired by the franchise. The four are Williamson, Wendell Ladner Bill Melchionni and Julius Erving.

In 1977 Williamson was traded to the Indiana Pacers in midseason; in the middle of the next season he went back to the Nets. In the 1980 season he went from the Nets to the [{Washington Bullets]] where he finished his eight year career during the 1981 season.

In his pro career Williamson scored 9,017 points. He averaged between 11.5 and 29.5 points in every season except for his last.

As of December 2005 Williamson still holds some Nets team records in various categories.

At the age of 45 Williamson died of kidney failure related to diabetes on November 30, 1996.

Shmeng (http://www.shmeng.com) is a community website that has been in operation since early 2000. What makes Shmeng notable is not the size of the site, but the quality of the articles and the loyalty of it's members. Shmeng articles are regularly copied and emailed around the net, and may have ended up in your inbox, as well as places like Snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com/travel/airline/announce.asp). Quite a few Shmeng members have checked the site every single day since it started. It's almost as addicting as Slashdot (http://slashdot.org).

SlimServer[edit]

The SlimServer is an open source perl based audio server supported by Slim Devices. The Squeezebox ethernet stereo component, which has both analog and digital output jacks, streams audio from a SlimServer. There is a free software emulator version of the Squeezebox called 'Softsqueeze' which is written in java.

Streaming of music from a SlimServer to a Squeezebox or Softsqueeze allows users to play their music collections from virtually anywhere there is an internet connection. What makes SlimServer unique is that it is open source and supported by a large community of programmers. Another unique feature is the hardware that SlimServer supports, such as the Slim Device Squeezebox or Roku Soundbridge, has an extremely affordable pricetag, ranging from $180 to $250.

The SlimServer software runs under Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Apple Macintosh platforms.

Agumba[edit]

Agumba where a people that inhabited the central Kenya highlands. They were hunter gatherers who were largelly assimilated by the the Kikuyu people who now inhabit the area. They were described as being stout and short in appearance, traits which can be seen in some Kikuyu people.

Birkdale School, Sheffield[edit]

Birkdale School is a public school for boys in the city of Sheffield, Yorkshire in England. It was founded in 1904 by the Reverend John Asterley as a preparatory school for boys between the ages of 4 and 13 to provide a Christian education, an ethos it has staunchly stuck to throughout its 100 year history. First housed in Birkdale House on Newbold Lane, it moved in 1915 to its present location in Oakholme House. The school has gradually extended to become the leading boys secondary school in South Yorkshire, and now is home to over 700 pupils, including approximately 40 girls in the co-educational Sixth Form.

There is a strong House system employed at Birkdale, four in total, each named after old Head Masters; Astlerley (1904-09), Griffiths (Alban Griffiths 1909-33) Hall House (John Hall 1963-83) and Heeley House (Howard Heeley 1943-63). The Prep School has a slightly different house system, with a house dedicated to C M Roberts, Head Master 1933-43

Birkdale does very well in the school league tables considering its size, and managed to penetrate the First Division of independent schools in 2005. There is a regular stream of students gaining places at Oxbridge each year, due to highly successful annual A-level results. 2005 GCSE results were the best ever. Birkdale School is well known for its excellent sporting acheivements in Rugby and football. Sporting facilities have been given a boost with the building of the new Castle Dyke Pavilion on the school's extensive sports grounds.

Birkdale School is a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference.

The current Head Master is Robert Court, educated at Westminster School, and a Cambridge graduate.

Catastrophe bond[edit]

I propose the following as an introductory article on catastrophe bonds (please also direcnt "cat bond" to the catastrophe bond entry):

Catastrophe bonds (also known as cat bonds) are risk-linked securities that transfer a specified set of risks from the sponsor to the investors. They are often structured as floating-rate corporate bonds whose principal is forgiven if specified trigger conditions are met. They are typically used by insurers as an alternative to traditional catastrophe reinsurance.

For example, if an insurer has built up a portfolio of risks by insuring properties in Florida, then they might wish to pass some of this risk on so that they can remain solvent after a large hurricane. They could simply purchase traditional catastrophe reinsurance, which would pass the risk on to reinsurers. Or they could sponsor a cat bond, which would pass the risk on to investors. In consultation with an investment bank, they would create a special purpose entity that would issue the cat bond. Investors would buy the bond, which might pay them a coupon of LIBOR plus 4%. If no hurricane hit Florida, then the investors made a healthy return on their investment. But if a hurricane hits Florida and triggers the cat bond, then the principal initially paid by the investors is forgiven, and is instead used by the sponsor to pay their claims to policyholders.

Investors

Investors choose to invest in cat bonds because their return is largely uncorrelated with the return on other investments in fixed income or in equities, so cat bonds help investors achieve diversification. Investors also buy cat bonds because the bonds can pay a relatively healthy coupon (as long as they are not triggered).

Ratings

Cat bonds are often rated by an agency such as Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch. A typical corporate bond is rated based on its probability of default due to the issuer going into bankrupcy. A cat bond is rated based on its probability of default due to an earthquake or hurricane triggering loss of principal. This probability is determined with the use of catastrophe models. Many cat bonds are rated BB+ by S&P, which is just below investment grade.

Trigger Types

The sponsor and investment bank who structure the cat bond must choose how the princial impairment is triggered. Cat bonds can be categorized into four basic trigger types:

Indemnity: triggered by the issuer's actual losses, so the sponsor is indemnified, as if they had purchased traditional catastrophe reinsurance. If the layer specified in the cat bond is $100 million excess of $500 million, and the total claims add up to more than $500 million, then the bond is triggered.

Modeled loss: instead of dealing with the company's actual claims, an exposure portfolio is constructed for use with catastrophe modeling software, and then when there is a large event, the event parameters are run against the exposure database in the cat model. If the modeled losses are above a specified threshold, the bond is triggered.

Indexed to industry loss: instead of adding up the insurer's claims, the cat bond is triggered when the insurance industry loss from a certain peril reaches a specified threshold, say $30 billion. The cat bond will specify who determines the industry loss; typically it is a recognized agency like PCS.

Parametric: instead of being based on any claims (the insurer's actual claims, the modeled claims, or the industry's claims), the trigger is indexed to the natural hazard caused by nature. So the parameter would be the windspeed (for a hurricane bond), the ground acceleration (for an earthquake bond), or whatever is appropriate for the peril. Data for this parameter is collected at multiple reporting stations and then entered into specified formulae. For example, if a typhoon generates windspeeds greater than X meters per second at 50 of the 150 weather observation stations of the Japanese Meteorological Agency, the cat bond is triggered.

The trigger types listed first are more correlated to the actual losses of the insurer sponsoring the cat bond. The trigger types listed farther down the list are not as highly correlated to the insurer's actual losses, so the cat bond has to be structured carefully and properly calibrated, but investors would not have to worry about the insurer's claims adjustment practices.

Market Participants

Examples of cat bond sponsors include insurers, reinsurers, and government agencies.

Examples of cat bond investors include institutional investors, insurers, reinsurers, and hedge funds.

Examples of investment banking groups that are active in the issuance and secondary market trading of cat bonds are Aon Capital Markets, BNP Paribas, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, and Swiss Re Capital Markets.

Southern Broadcasting Network, Inc. or SBN is a local UHF television station in Metro Manila founded on May 21, 1992. SBN studios are located at the 22nd flr. Strata 2000 Bldg. Emerald Ave. Ortigas Center, Pasig City with the power of 50,000 watts. Until recently, UHF television broadcasting was unheard of. Only those who could get access to the Far East Network of the U.S. Armed Forces Radio and Television Service, beamed to the U.S. bases in Clark Air Base and Subic Naval Base, were familiar with the bandwidth. Southern Broadcasting Network (SBN Channel 21) and Molave Broadcasting Network (Channel 23) were the first commercial stations to broadcast on the UHF band in mid-1992. SBN 21 features "global-oriented" programmes from the World TV, a local VHF channel, while Channel 23 carries MTV programming as received via satellite from Hong Kong’s Star TV.

"cornhuskers" like the occupation (remove the green shells from ears of corn) would probably be a dictionary definition better suited to Wiktionary other than the content found at (or maybe could be added to) maize (probably the "Cultivation" section) and agriculture, or maybe harvest. If you are referring to the old hand tool that was used to strip off the husk or outer coating of the corn, you'll need to do the research yourself (you might try doing a Web search for husking corn by hand and corn husking, as well as corn husker) and submit an article written in your own words--this page is to submit articles that have been written, not to request that they be written. Villabandin[edit]

Villabandin is a small hamlet part of 15 or so that lead approximaetly 100km away from the city of leon in the province of castille-leon in north eastern spain. The population is estimated to be less than ten people,although during the summer months families come together to expand the hamlet's population. It is made up of two parts with only two residents living in one while the major part of the hamlet being within the other. In the main part a collection of old houses,barns,a church,a bar(that remians shut for most of the year),and a dance hall are cut through by a river with two bridges on opposing sides.The hamlet lies between two valleys at a high altitude of over 1000km above sea level.

History

The area that Villabandin lies in is believed to have been envaded by the "moros", a term given to the arab population that invaded spain.At the beginning of the twentieth century a fire burnt much of the hamlet and in 1902 it was renovated.Up until the 1980s the hamlet was inhabited by poor farmers that worked in the valleys around hearding cattle and sheep.

Climate

During the winter months it is notoriously cold in villabandin and most of the elderly inhabitants actually leave to be looked after by next of kin.It is not until late spring that the place starts to become a bit more lively,with the surrounding countryside bursting into bloom and the festival of 'el corpus' occuring in june,where people from the neighbouring hamlets and town of villablino come to celebrate.During the summer months the weather is warm and sunny and brings in more people to the place,with generations of families coming out onto the bridges to see one another,as well as the men play the popular game 'los bolos'.

Food

Food plays an important part in the culture of people in Villabandin.In the morning the people will always have a bowl of milk with some biscuits perhaps,and for lunch a stew or rice,and meat always acompanies everyting,particularly smoked meats like chorizo.As a result a high number of people in the area suffer from illness associated with a diet too high in saturated fat.A van passes through the hamlet everyday throughout the summer to deliver fresh bread,and the vegetables are collected from a vegetable garden on the outskirts of the place the inhabitants share.The tap water comes from a deposit not far up in the hills above the hamlet.As a result despite the high amounts of animal produce eaten,the oragnic,fresh vegetables and water help to balance it all out.Two lorries,one with fish,the other a range of foods,also pass through on a regular basis.

People

All of villabandin's year round inhabitants are elderly,but during the summer months their sons and daughters and their families return.Most live in the province of castille-leon,others around the country,and some have even settled as far away as London in the United Kingdom.

Mark Famiglietti was born 26 September 1979, Providence, Rhode Island, USA. The son of a pharmaceutical executive and an office manager, he raised in Clinton, Connecticut., where frequent family trips to the Goodspeed Opera House sparked his interest in performing. However, it wasn't until his teen years that he shifted to the other side of the footlights in Goodspeed's "An Evening with Max Showalter and Friends" and won the Goodspeed Guild Musical Theatre Award for his performance.

In high school, he was class president in his junior and senior years, captain of the baseball team, a member of the band and chorus and co-announcer of school football and basketball games. On winning a small part in his school's production of "Guys & Dolls," he added drama classes to his curriculum and began to exercise acting and singing muscles. Leading roles followed in local theater productions of "Bye, Bye Birdie" and "The Music Man" and school plays including "Kiss Me Kate" and "Once Upon a Mattress."

Now bent on an acting career, he began attending auditions in New York while studying at New York University as a drama major, where he studied with the Atlantic Theatre Company. During his second semester, he put college on hold and headed for Hollywood after being cast as Deering High's resident heartthrob, Nick Hammer, on the Saturday morning teen show Hangtime. Actors Jordana Brewster and Kip Pardue will star in the film.

Mark and Lane also wrote another screenplay called Succubus, an action-comedy movie about a guy who decides to set out and bring a Succubus (a female demon who seduces men and steals their souls), and her entire race, down; after discovering that his nerdy best friend is dating her.

In 2005 he appeared in 9 episodes of ABC's Eyes', but only the first 5 were aired because the show was cancelled. He also played an assistant district attorney in CBS pilot Conviction. The show was set to be aired in September 2005 but it was cancelled.

Mark Famiglietti will appear in the movie Nobel Son. The story concerns a son struggling to finish his thesis when his father wins the Nobel Prize in chemistry, making life all the more difficult for him and his mother, a well-known forensic psychiatrist. The indie film, which began shooting in late October in LA, features an amazing cast: Alan Rickman, Mary Steenburgen, Bryan Greenberg, Shawn Hatosy, Eliza Dushku and Bill Pullman among others.

Famiglietti, who loves the stock market, aims to go back to school someday to study economics or marketing, but he's aiming towards show business success as an actor, writer and producer.

New Lambton[edit]

New Lambton is a suburb located in Newcastle, Australia. It is approximately 9 kilometers from the city's CBD. One of the main attractions to the suburb is Blackbutt Reserve, a large bushland reserve which includes wildlife sanctuary for koalas, kangaroos, emus, wombats, native brids etc.

The suburb includes two shopping streets, two schools and three pubs; The duke of Wellington, The General Roberts and The Blackbutt Hotel.

Aaron Houston[edit]

Aaron Houston currently serves as director of government relations for the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), based in Washington, D.C. In that role, Houston serves as the only full-time marijuana lobbyist on Capitol Hill. Houston also currently serves as MPP’s policy expert on topics related to DUI law, including the pharmacokinetics and metabolism of THC.

Houston served as MPP’s national field director for over a year, coordinating more than 125 protests around the country in 2004 and managing MPP’s campaigns to unseat incumbent members of Congress in Arizona and New Mexico during the 2004 general election cycle.

Houston worked as a political consultant based in Denver, managing local, state and federal campaigns and advising various Democratic candidates on campaign strategy and tactics. Houston worked as a top campaign aide to Rollie Heath, the Democratic Party’s 2002 nominee for governor and later managed Denver City Councilwoman Ramona Martinez’s bid for U.S. Congress. Houston served as executive director and chief lobbyist for Colorado’s largest membership-based non-profit advocacy group for a year and served as a staff member in the Colorado Senate for three years prior to that time, including a two-year stint as reading clerk for the Senate leadership.


Clipstone[edit]

Clipstone in North Nottinghamshire is a small working class ex mining village, built on an old army base. Clipstone is split into two general sides "Kings Clipstone" formely known as Old Clipstone and New Clipstone. New Clipstone has few shops and is home to Vicars water, there is alot of history formed at New Clipstone. Kings Clipstone is split into two parts one being home to old stone buildings and the new Cavendish estate which is being built still, yet having trouble selling due to many aspects including the attitude of the Cavendish residents.

Chumb[edit]

Chumb, is an area of Pakistan, near the southern tip of Kashmir. Here are people from various ethnic groups such as Gujjars, Bakerwals, Pashtuns and Mughals. The people are commonly known as Pathans by neighbouring Punjabis due to their much fairer complexions. A Baraderi system is prevailent throughout the region, and matters are taken into family leader hands. Blue, Green and hazel coloured eyes are extremely common, as well as Ginger, Brunette, Black and sandy Blond hair colour. The inhabitants of this area have strong spiritual beliefs much like the rest of Pakistan and they visit dargahs regularly. Generally Pahari is spoken, but, Pushto, Gojri and patwari are also spoken. The people are mostly farmers. Migrants from Indian occupied Kashmir live here mostly. Many neighbouring Kashmiri regions as well as Punjabi regions reckon the origins of the Chackmerry community in Chumb are descendants of early Turkish settlers who have arrived here from Rajauri in India. They have extremely fair features and are unique in their way of life which revovles around religious contemplation. They have semitic features and can be very beautiful in appearance both males and females alike. Many of these inhabitants support the union of Kashmir state with Pakistan as they are culturally similar to Pakistan. They believe a democratic voting system must be allowed so they can choose freely who their state joins. A shark similar to the mythical Jaguar shark from the film "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" (2004) was recently filmed by Mikhail Matz, a professor of marine biology at the University of Florida. The filming took place off the Gulf of Mexico in August 2005, a few days before Hurricane Katrina blew through. The shark turned out to be a chain catshark, a species previously known to science. The fluorescent properties of the shark were a new discovery.

Magestic Plural[edit]

An antiquidated manner of speach which the person referrs to themself as "we" or "us" instead of "I" or "me". It was originally used by royalty, popes, and other people of magestry(hense magestic plural) as a way of showing that the leader was not only representing themself, but all the other previous leaders and the people under them as well.

Pope John Paul II was the first pope to drop the magestic plural.

Peach faced lovebirds[edit]

These birds are extreamly hardy and are very loving with eachother. if they are raised in a pair they will often ignore their human companions and focus strictly on thier bird companion. They love to shred paper and shreek when something new is introduced to them. They love being given new things to play with and are very inquisitve. They also enjoy a routine and if your are late doing something they will let you know by shreeking of tweeting consistently. over all though they are grat birds to have.

Back when Planet Namek was still around and Dragon Ball Z was the top search on every search engine, these guys were making a quake 3 mod that still looks like something far more fun than what was put out officially and definately more fun than the DBZ fighting games that were out at the time. Because it was almost finished, and it was looking to be quite popular (planet namek linked to it), they asked Funimation (they were the US distributer of the license, I think) if it was alright that they were putting out this free game mod, which resulted in a cease and desist letter.

Drittwirkung[edit]

A concept whereby individuals invoke the rights contained in an international agreement against another private individual. It is a the giving of horizontal effect to international agreements. This is usually contrary to international law, which is law between states and not within states (unless incorporated through a monist or dualist approach).

After reading de:Grundrechte#Drittwirkung_von_Grundrechten, I have the impression that it's not limited to human rights but includes other civil rights or civil liberties, too, and is only tangentially related to international agreements. The German page says that the question is whether rights that exist between the state and an individual (vertically) also would apply between individuals (i.e., horizontally). If yes, these rights have Drittwirkung (i.e., they apply to third parties (first and second party being the state and the first individual)), if no, they don't. It looks to me as though there is already an article that would be appropriate for this subject Diabetes management. This doesn't mention the use of metals at all. The Vanadium article mentions this use, but says that the mechansim is unknown, suggesting that there isn't a lot that can be written.
If the Diabetes management article had not existed, we would have still needed enough sample content for the article to confirm that it was a useful article.
Note that the US National Institutes of Health, considers these to be "alternative therapies"[6], so any article with content on this subject should quote that reference as a source, and indicate that the effectiveness is disputed by the mainstream medical profession, in order to meet the neutral point of view and verifiability requirements.

There are some studies which have suggested that there is a connection between (some enzyme using these) and glucose uptake. Thus far, I'm aware of nothing more than 'suggestive', and certainly not anything about 'reversal'. Much of the layman's buzz about chromium (at least in the form of picolinate) is commercially driven. That Type 2 has a range of severity, that mild instances can be 'normalized' (at least by blood glucose readings, if not be the underlying biochemical derangement), by exercise, more sensible diet, etc, there is a considerable opportunity for confusion about the nature of alleged 'reversals' or 'cures'. The individual particularity of Type 2 is not well appreciated by nearly any outside medical professionals or very unusually well informed laymen.
Given the prevalence of snake oil in diabetic treatments / cures / etc, I think some such article might of interest to WP readers. I do not think coverage belongs in diabetes management, which should be limited to actually clincally useful treatments.
There has been talk of creating an alternative treatments article for diabetes (eg, see diabetes talk). Perhaps some coverage of these might be included along with coverage of herbal and Ayervedic and ... suggested treatments? And, of course, with a clear notice that none of the proposed treatments noted therein has other than anecdotal evidence of clinical success in the real world of diabetes mellitus, and so must be regarded as experimental. And links to coverage of more conventional (and clincally usable) treatments in articles on diabetes mellitus and diabetes management and ...

Birger Sandzen - Artist[edit]

A brilliant, unique artist, Birger Sandzen was born in Sweden on February 5, 1871.

"Imagination is the greatest asset a person can have," he told students at Bethany College. "Master nature, know nature, but don't emulate it."

In 1894, Sandzen came to America to paint and teach. He lived in Kansas where he was inspired by the 'sandstone walls, palaces and temple ruins' he observed in nature. He was enchanted by the Rocky Mountains and the 'mystic' Grand Canyon. In Colorado, Sandzen saw "golden plains, towering peaks, granite cathedrals, deep blue lakes, pine forests, deserted mining towns all swimming in color and light."

Around 1908, Sanzen turned to Pointillism, combining Fauve color with expressionist blocks of rich, impasto pigment. He felt strongly that "brush work should be expressive."

In 1916 an art critic described Sandzen as "an arch-revolutionist against all formulas and rules, good or bad."

In 1939, a Kansas columnist wrote "It's been a long time since the trees have been such a riot of color. What a background the glorious sunsets are! To bad we haven't more Birger Sandzens to have this beauty always near us."

In his last days, he told his wife, "Oh, if I could only show my gratitude in some way. I love you in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Swedish and English."

HMS Confiance[edit]

The largest warship ever constructed on Lake Champlain, HMS Confiance was built in answer to the American Commander Thomas Macdonough's ambitious shipbuilding program, itself designed to thwart British advances into Vermont and New York during the War of 1812. Captain George Downie's flagship at the Battle of Plattsburg, on September 11, 1814, Confiance was forced to strike after a two-hour battle with Macdonough's Saratoga, during which she sustained at least 105 hits by round shot. Forty of her crew were killed, including Downie, and another 83 wounded. A term used for the time when Jean Lesage took powere in Quebec. Jean Lesage create dmany reforms for Quebec in the form of education and industry mainly. Through his years in power, the French in Quebec began to grow a more provincial identity, and became more nationalist. No violence or public demonstration was used at this time, this is why it is refered to as the Quiet Revolution. Later though this and other event's woudl lead to the October Crisis.

Could you please provide a larger example of the content that you intend to write, otherwise, I think what is required here is probably a category or "list of" type article.
Note that a significant problem I see in creating such an article, otherwise than as a category or list, is that the primary source for this information has intellectual property rights restrictions that would probably prevent its use, as the International Electrotechnical Commission require what is essentially a non-disclosure agreement before providing access to their information on the subject.

Steve Fraser[edit]

Steve Fraser was the 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist in Greco-Roman Wrestling in the 198 lb weight class. A native of Hazel Park, Michigan, Fraser was a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state wrestling champion and later an All-American in wrestling at The University of Michigan. Fraser's gold medal, along with that of teammate Jeff Blatnick, were the first Olympic gold medals won by Americans in Greco-Roman wrestling. Cable Temple[edit]

Cable temple is a style of eyeglass frames where the piece that rests on the ear wraps around behind the ear.

The side piece that rests on the ear is called a temple. In 1885, an employee of an eyeglass manufacturer had a pair of special frames made from a new material called cable steel. He rode horses and was frustrated by his straight-temple frames always falling off. The new style of frame wrapped around his ears ensuring the eyeglasses stayed in place. The glasses worked so well the company patented the design and the riding temple (or riding bow) eyeglass frame design was established.

The use of cable temples continued throughout many styles. The three main were the Riding Temples, Windsor, and Marshwood (P3). John Lennon is associated with wearing the Windsor style. The Marshwood style was adopted by the US military in WWII and issued the glasses under the designation P3. The Marshwood style faded from popularity in the 50s.

Cable temple eyeglasses are still used for children's glasses, shooter's / marksman glasses, and a limited number of regular adult prescription eyeglasses.

The "Turbostreamer" project is a study carried out by BMW aplpying the principle of the steam engine to assis a internal combustion engine. The heat naturally generated by the ICE is employed to generate steam and, consequently, a steam engine delivers extra power for the vehicle. One of the main advantages of the proposed system is that the additional power comes from "lost energy" produced by the ICE (i.e. the heat).

Fogle is the author of the highly acclaimed novel Drugstore Cowboy. The novel is semi-autobiographical. It was later adapted into a critically acclaimed film.

The term ankle foot orthosis appears to have been introduced into the popular medical lexicon no earlier than the mid 1970s. A committee of imminent orthopedic surgeons and orthotic professionals saw the need to create a classification system for orthopedic appliances that attempted to symplify the traditional method of describing orthopedic appliances. It was determined that a general description of the orthosis should be limited to the joints or general areas of the body encumbered or supported by the device. The term orthosis was favored due to its generic description of the function of the device- literally "to straighten". Hence, the phrase ankle foot orthosis was meant to describe any externally fitted orthopedic appliance that supports the ankle foot area. The old terminology included short leg brace, molded or cosmetic plastic boot, leg splint; along with a number of device titles that involved the name of the inventor, the geograshical location of the device's original use, the function of the device, and other rationale for naming. As often happens when a new nomenclature or culture is instituted, the intent is lost with the loss of active management by those who instituted the paradigm shift. Eventually, the changes that were intitiated become corrupted. The term ankle foot orthosis is no different. Coincidental with the efforts of the aforementioned group was the increasing use of plastic as a material of choice in the construction of lower limb orthotic devices, or orthoses. The admixture of a new phraseology and a new appearance for orthoses almost surely predestined that the term ankle foot orthosis would come to describe a plastic orthosis designed to support the lower leg. Ankle foot orthoses are manufactured items that fit intimately to the leg, many times custom made from a model of the patient's lower leg. The plastic that seems to have been used most often is a variable of polypropylene, sometimes tempered from its brittleness in cold with polyethylene. Ankle foot orthoses have been created that have a solid or stiff ankle design, limiting the user's ankle motion to almost none; along with designs that allow for some flexibility, using the inherent memory found in polypropylene. Other designs include a hinge at the ankle to allow some directed motion. Of late, the variable of thermoformed carbon fiber has been used in ankle foot orthosis construction with its accompanying strengths and advantages.

The Order of the Southern Cross was originally known as the Imperial Order of the Southern Cross and awarded to officers, NCOs and men of the Brazilian Imperial Army and Navy during the war against Paraguay (1865-1870), called War of the Triple Alliance (Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay against Paraguay). This order was certainly awarded to some members of allied armies. Founded on December 1, 1822 by Emperor Peter I of Brazil (IV of Portugal), but abolished by decree of February 24, 1891. Re-established by President Getúlio Vargas on December 5, 1932. Rax Restaurants[edit]

Rax also known as the Restaurant Administration Corporation (RAC) was founded by J. Patrick Ross in 1962 with a lone Burger Chef in Wheeling, West Virginia. The company with leeps and bounds by franchising other restaurants like Wendy's, Ponderosa Steak House, Long John Slivers, and Jax. It wasn't until the 1970's the modern Rax would come into full view. In 1970's General Foods gave up on the Jax concept and gave the restaurants to Rac. It was then they changed the name to Rax in 1978. Rax is probably known for revolutionizing the fast food generation in the 1980's by adding salad bars, solariums, and added many foods like roast beef and baked potato to their menus. Many of these were implemented to Wendy's restaurants around the same time too. The restaurant grew to over 500 in 38 states in the United States. However, in the 1991, the company filed for Chapter 11 and the company scaled back many of its stores only to the core markets of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. In 1996, yet again Rax filed for Chapter 11. Yet again, about 50 restaurants were sold off to Wendy's who were expanding their Tim Horton's brand. Today Rax is only eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Many of these are franchises and are still struggling with about 50 restaurants remaining.

Wehrle's Salamander[edit]

Wehrle's salamander (Plethodon wehrlei) is a large salamander with webbed hind feet. It is bluish-black with small, scattered white spots on it's back. It's sides are covered with white to yellow spots and blotches. It's belly and ventral surface of the tail are solid gray, and the throat and upper chest usually have white or yellowish blotches. The species grows to a length of 10-17 cm. Mating occurs from fall through spring. A small cluster of eggs is laid in early summer in damp logs, soils or moss, and in crevices in caves. Reproduction is biennial or irregular, with many mature females failing to breed each year. This species stays under cover during the day, and comes out to forage at night. This species is found on forested hillsides in the Appalachian Plateau, where it hides by day beneath stones or rocks. It is also found at the entrances of caves and deep rock crevices, as well as burrows under rocks and logs.

Wehrle’s salamander has only been sighted in two locations: In Ohio along Sunfish Creek in Monroe County and along the Little Muskingum River in Washington County.

It is Named in honor of R. W. Wehrle. The species was the first described from one of his many collections.

Pearson Air Museum[edit]

The Pearson Air Museum is an aviation museum at Pearson Field in Vancouver, Washington, USA. The museum specializes in aircraft made before or during World War II. The displays are housed in the U.S.'s oldest wooden aircraft hangar, built in 1918 and used as a hangar since 1921. Ghattamaneni Krishna[edit]

Superstar Krishna was born on the 31st of May 1943, in a remote village called Burripallem, near Tenali in Guntur district roughly around 12.05 p.m. He was the eldest of the five children -3 boys (G.Hanumantha Rao and G.Adhiseshagiri Rao) and two girls(Aliveelumangamma and Lakshmi)- born to Sri Ghattamaneni Veeraraghavayya Chowdhary and Smt. Ghattamaneni Nagaratnamma.

Krishna's success in life is yet another example of the 'rag to riches' story that we often hear about in our day to day experiences. Coming from a middle income agrarian family, he could not afford to have convent education and hence he had to attend the school in his village to get his primary education before moving to Tenali and Narsapur to do his S.S.C and Intermediate. Delighted by his scholastic achievements, his father Veeraraghavayya garu mobilized the necessary financial resources to send his son to the (then) prestigious C.R.R. college in Eluru so as to enable his eldest son pursue his under graduation (B.Sc). Although there was never a dull moment during his formative years, his stay in Eluru turned out to be seminal as it provided him a vantage point from which he could look at things in order to draw a plan for his career.

Sharing a room with two people whose interests also gravitated towards acting (Shoban Babu and Murali Mohan), Krishna played an active role in various cultural events organized by his college. Though he made his presence felt in all the programs in which he participated, his performance in "Cheesina Paapam Kaasiki Velleena" brought him the needed critical acclaim. It was the success of this play that encouraged him to embrace the acting profession more seriously. Upon completion of his college education, Krishna was married to Smt. Indira Devi on November 1, 1962. Indira Devi has undoubtedly been the bedrock element in Krishna's success always providing him the much needed emotional support during his days of struggle. She also alleviated Krishna's domestic concerns by holding up the family together in his absence and making sure that all her children experience a memorable childhood. Although Krishna married actress Vijaya Nirmala (for reasons best known to him) later on in the year 1969, his second marriage had never impacted the relationship he shared with Smt. Indira Devi and couple continue to enjoy an understanding of the highest order to date.

The year 1965 will always evoke some sweet memories for our Superstar Krishna. This year saw the release of his debut movie "Thene Manasulu"- a movie that he starred in before the making of this movie was released later on and hence "Thene Manasulu" is technically considered as the first movie of SS- which went on to become a great hit in that year enjoying a 100 day run in three centers. On the personal front, Superstar and his wife Indira were blessed with their first child Ramesh Babu. (see the tables below for some more personal details of our Superstar).

USS Broadbill (AM-58)[edit]

Broadbill (AM-58), an Auk class minesweeper, was launched on 21 May 1942 at the Defoe Shipbuilding Company in Bay City, Michigan, sponsored by Mrs. A. Loring Swasey, wife of Captain Swasey. She was commissioned on 13 October 1942, with Lieutenant Commander J. B. Cleland, Jr., in command. After commissioning, she reported at Boston, Massachusetts to the Commander, Service Force, Atlantic Fleet.

Until April 1944, Broadbill escorted convoys between east coast and Gulf coast ports, and made two voyages to the Caribbean. On 11 April 1944, she got underway for England where she conducted numerous practice sweeps in preparation for the Normandy invasion.

On 5 June, Broadbill, as a unit of Mine Squadron 7, in company with 10 other AM's, cleared the approach channel to Utah Beach for fire support ships, and on 6 June, commenced sweeping the actual support area. On 25 June, she helped clear fire support areas off Cherbourg. Operations were continued off England and France until August. She then proceeded to Naples, via Oran, Algeria, and conducted sweeping operations in the Ligurian Sea, Bonifacio Straits, and around Sardinia and Corsica. Completing this assignment, Mine Squadron 7 arrived at Cavalaire Bay in southern France on23 August 1944 to clear French harbors and approaches during the invasion of southern France. On 28 May 1945, Broadbill, in company with Mine Division 21, departed for Norfolk where she underwent repairs until 30 August 1945.

On 17 September 1945, in company with Service Squadron 5, Broadbill got underway for San Pedro, California. She was subsequently ordered to Astoria, Oregon, arriving on 7 December for pre-inactivation overhaul. Broadbill went out of commission in reserve at San Diego on 3 June 1946.

Recommissioned on 19 March 1952, Broadbill operated off the California coast until 27 June 1952. She then sailed to Charleston, South Carolina, arriving there on 15 July. During the remainder of 1952, she operated out of Charleston and conducted one Caribbean training cruise.

In January 1953, she proceeded to the Mediterranean for a cruise with the 6th Fleet, returning to Charleston on 21 May 1953. She conducted routine operations off the Atlantic coast until August, when she reported for inactivation overhaul. Broadbill was placed out of commission in reserve on 25 January 1954, berthed at Orange, Texas. She was reclassified MSF-58 on 7 February 1955.

Broadbill was struck from the Navy list on 1 July 1972, and disposed of by Navy sale on 1 December 1973.

Aryabhatt was a great mathematician and astronomer of ancient India. Aryabhata was born in 476 AD. Aryabhatt had propounded the view that earth was round, in the 5th Century AD he propounded that the Earth rotates and not the celestial sphere and had worked out the duration of the day at the poles. Aryabhatt was also known to have given an accurate value of pi.

Who Loves You[edit]

Who Loves You its a 1975 album by The Four Seasons. This album help introduced the new Four Seasons: John Paiva (guitar), Don Ciccone (bass), Lee Shapiro (keyboards) and Gerry Polci (drums). Over them, Frankie Valli sang lead vocal, backed by two former Seasons, Bob Gaudio and Joe Long.

From the "Who Loves You" album came "December 1963" (Oh What A Night), a song that broke around Christmas 1975 and spent six months on the charts. It was the best selling Four Seasons single of all time and at the time, was the longest-charting single in history, lasting fifty weeks on the Hot 100.

The first Cimarron (officially changed from the original spelling Cimerone) a sidewheel double-ended steam gunboat, was launched 16 March 1862 by D. S. Merschon, Bordentown, N.J.; outfitted at Philadelphia Navy Yard; and commissioned 5 July 1862, Commander Maxwell Woodhull in command.

Rear Admiral Du Pont ordered U.S.S. Weehawken, commanded by Captain J. Rodgers, and U.S.S. Nahant, Commander Downes, to Wassaw Sound, Georgia, where it was reported that the powerful ram C.S.S. Atlanta, Commander Webb, was preparing to attack the wooden blockader U.S.S. Cimarron. A week later Du Pont's wise foresight would save the day for the Union blockade there.

Olympus OM-4[edit]

The Olympus OM-4 was a professional or advanced amateur level, interchangeable lens, 35 mm film, single lens reflex (SLR) camera. It was manufactured by Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. (today Olympus Corporation) in Japan from 1983 to 1987. It used a horizontal cloth focal plane shutter with a manual speed range of 1 to 1/2000th second (as long as 240 seconds in automatic mode) plus Bulb and flash X-sync of 1/60th second. It had dimensions of 87 mm height, 139 mm width, 50 mm depth and 540 g weight. Unlike most SLRs of the time, it was available in only one color; all black. The introductory US list price for the body only (no lens) was $685. Note that SLRs usually sold for 30 to 40 percent below list price.

The OM-4 was the improved successor to the Olympus OM-2N and represents the highest evolution of the professional level (also called the single digit) Olympus OM-series SLRs (introduced in 1972). The other members were the OM-1 (originally called the M-1), OM-2, OM-1N, OM-2N, OM-2S Program, OM-3, OM-4T, OM-3T, OM-4Ti and OM-3Ti. They all used the same body configuration, but with improving aluminum alloy chassis, feature levels, internal electronics, and external controls and cosmetics.

Features[edit]

The OM-4 accepts all lenses with the Olympus OM bayonet mount (introduced in 1972 with the Olympus OM-1). The contemporary Olympus Optical made lenses were the Zuiko Auto-S type. Accessories for the OM-4 included the Olympus Motor Drive 2 (automatic film advance up to 5 frames per second plus motorized rewind) and the Olympus T45 handle mount electronic flash (guide number 148/45 (feet/meters) at ASA/ISO 100).

The OM-4 was a battery powered (two S76 or A76, or one 1/3N) electromechanically controlled manual focus SLR with manual exposure control or aperture priority autoexposure. The OM-4 was the first camera with a built-in spot-meter (2% of view; 3.3˚ with 50 mm lens) and could measure eight individual spots and average them. The light meter used a dual concentric segmented silicon photodiode to provide spot or centerweighted readings. It used a graduated linear LCD shutter speed display at the bottom of the viewfinder to precisely indicate its readings versus the actual camera settings. The viewfinder also had split image rangefinder and microprism collar focusing aids. Unlike most SLRs of the era, the OM-series used Olympus's standard shutter speed ring concentric with the lens mount instead of a top mounted shutter speed dial.

The major improvements of the OM-4 compared to the OM-2N were the stronger chassis, permanently affixed dedicated hot shoe, linear LCD shutter speed display, provision for spot-metering, flexible integrated circuit electronics and gasket weatherproofing.

Design History[edit]

The single digit Olympus OM-series SLRs ignited an SLR revolution in the 1970s and 1980s with intense competition between the major SLR brands: Olympus, Nikon, Canon, Minolta and Pentax. Between circa 1975 to 1985, there was a dramatic shift away from heavy all-metal manual mechanical camera bodies to much more compact bodies with integrated circuit (IC) electronic automation. In addition, because of rapid advances in electronics, the brands continually leap frogged each other with models having new or more automatic features. The OM-1 introduced the compact body size that would become the norm for SLRs for almost 15 years and automatic through-the-lens (TTL) off-the-film (OTF) electronic flash metering was a fantastic boon when introduced by the OM-2 in 1975.

Into this arena, the OM-4 and its companion mechanically controlled OM-3 were conservative designs despite their very sophisticated spot-meters. They can be described as the OM-2 and 1 with the spot-meter electronic controls grafted on. The OM-4's deliberately limited but tightly focused features were not intended to appeal to beginners. Instead of offering every possible automated bell and whistle, the OM-4's manual spot-metering represented Olympus Optical's ultimate expression of highest possible quality and precision of exposure control for the professional and advanced amateur photographer.

In 1986, a special ultra-durable version of the OM-4 with natural finished (as well as black finished) titanium top and bottom plates and improved weatherproofing, called and marked the OM-4T was released. The introductory US list price for the body only (no lens) was $770. The OM-4T also introduced a new electronic flash control system. Normally focal plane shutters are limited in their maximum flash synchronization speed, because of the way they provide fast shutter speeds - timing the second shutter curtain to close more quickly after the first shutter curtain opens. This causes a narrowing of the slit "wiping" the exposure on the film. In effect, a horizontal focal plane shutter is only fully open and usable for flash exposure down to 1/60th second. Any faster and a typical 1 millisecond flash burst would only partially expose the film - the part open to the slit. The OM-4T overcame this problem by having the new Olympus F280 flash pulse its light continuously over 40 milliseconds, long enough to illuminate the slit as it crossed the entire focal plane, even at shutter speeds as fast as 1/2000th second. However, there is a concomitant loss of flash range. The OM-4T was in turn succeeded by the limited production OM-4Ti in 1997 ($1819 list) without any features changes before being finally discontinued in 2002.

Olympus Optical failed to make the transition to autofocus (AF) 35 mm SLRs in the wake of the introduction of the landmark Minolta Maxxum 7000 in 1985. Virtually all non-AF SLRs disappeared by 1989. The OM-4 and OM-3 survived because Olympus Optical had no appropriate successors. Its rugged construction also appealed to professional photographers and traditionalist amateurs liked its lack of autofocus. The Olympus OM-4 sold steadily to the fiercely loyal, cult-like Olympus clique, but more and more slowly over its lifetime as it became more and more outdated. It remained in limited production until 2002, when the rise of digital SLRs gave Olympus an opportunity to get back into the SLR camera business with its Four Thirds system. Time has proven the OM-4 to be very tough and reliable and it is now regarded as one of the finest SLRs of its generation for the serious and patient photographer.

Sampoerna[edit]

Sampoerna [12] is an Indonesian cigarette brand smoked by millions of Indonesians. The company (PT Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna Tbk) was purchased by the Philip Morris Altria group in May 2005 for $5.2 billion. The company's 2004 revenues were $1 billion, approximately 20% of the Indonesian market. The company's acquisition represented a strategic move for Altria, as although Marlboro is by far the most popular Western-style (non kretek cigarette), most Indonesians still smoke kretek cigarettes.

It produces kretek-type cigarettes, flavoured with cloves and spices. Its most popular brand is Sampoerna 'A' Mild, a filter cigarette in white paper. The filter has a sweet coating of sugar and spices. Although the cigarette is described as mild, it contains similar tar and nicotine levels to Marlboro Red. Along with variations on the Sampoerna Brand (filterless (known as Hijau, or green), menthol, etc.), the company's other key brand is Dji Sam Soe, an unfiltered cigarette with 39mg of tar and 2.3 mg of nicotine per stick [13].

The company runs the Sampoerna Foundation, a non-profit organisation for education in Indonesia. The company's core brand is generally regarded as a youth cigarette, so the education foundation is perhaps somewhat ironic.

The company is named after the founding Sampoerna family, and was founded in 1913.

Lita[edit]

Lita is a very old steam tank engine in the on the Island of Sodor in the fictional books Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. She was scrapped, and was really sad because she didn't want to rot away in a scrapyard for the rest of her years. The Fat Controller found out and had her repaired and restored. She is now a children's playground and is very happy to be useful again.

Lita is only seen in the Thomas Magazines, and is the only tank engine to have a 4-4-0 wheel allignment.

Errol Louis[edit]

Errol Louis (b. in Harlem) was formerly served as associate editor of The New York Sun. He has taught college courses, co-founded an inner-city community credit union, run for City Council and was once named by New York Magazine as one of 10 New Yorkers Making a Difference "with energy, vision and independent thinking."

He is a writer for the New York Daily News as of December 2005.

Louis holds degrees from Harvard, Yale and Brooklyn Law School. He was raised in New Rochelle and lives in Crown Heights, Brooklyn with his wife, Juanita Scarlett. He is the son of a retired NYPD inspector.

While technically part of the Cleveland radio market, WBKC's main area of focus is Lake County.

The Battle of Claremore Mound, or the Battle of the Strawberry Moon, was one of the chief battles of the war between the Osage and Cherokee Indians. Cutthroat Gap Massacre[edit]

The Massacre of Cutthroat Gap occurred in the spring of 1833 in the Wichita Mountains. Osage Indians attacked the Kiowa village of Chief Islandman while most of the warriors were away raiding the Utes and the rest away on a buffalo hunt. The Osage killed the few remaining men and more than 150 Kiowa women and children. Few escaped. The Osage cut the heads from the bodies and left them in a row kettles spread across the village. Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band[edit]

Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band is a 21st Century Big Band featuring the talents of players such as Wayne Bergeron. The band has released two albums, "Swingin' For The Fences" and "XXL." Their first album "Swingin' For The Fences" has become an almost standard album, with many charts becoming commonplace for high school and professional big bands. The most famous track from that album is "Sing, Sang, Sung" which is a parody/tribute to the Benny Goodman classic. It also features the very complex "Bach 2 Part Invention in D minor" a track which contains two distinct melodies going on at the same time throughout the whole piece. Guest soloists include Thad Jones' clarinetist Eddie Daniels, and trumpet virtuouso Arturo Sandoval. Another point of the first album was the general transtition through time with the tracks, for the most part going in order according to the style, so the big band era, all the way to modern rock and funk is represented with respect. Benoît Roux[edit]

Benoît Roux is a Professor at the University of Chicago who uses theoretical physics to understand biological systems at the molecular level. In his laboratory, classical molecular dynamics is used to probe the structure, dynamics, and function of biological macromolecular systems such as ion channels and allosteric proteins. He was a pioneer in the study of the influence of the membrane on the function of membrane proteins using molecular dynamics simulations in which the phospholipid bilayer and the solvent were treated explicitly. In addition, specific computational methodologies are being developed in his laboratory to tackle fundamental problems in molecular recognition. His work establishes a bridge between theory and experiment in biophysics.

The Driscoll Catholic High School Football team in Addison, Illinois has recently broken the IHSA record for consecutive state football championships with five. They won in class 4A in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005, and class 3 A in 2004. The classes in Illionis High School Football are determined by student enrollment, with the smallest schools (1A) to the largest schools (8A). in 2004, Driscoll's enrollment of incoming freshman did not exceed the number of seniors of the previous year leaving, so they were put in 3A.

All of the information located here is accurate and from those three sources. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation made a documentary that appeared in the mid-late 1980's, and news coverage about the Chelmsford scandal was pretty intense. The Royal Commission files (volumes upon volumes of data, which I've read) are open to the public. There was a time when you could purchase copies of them, but not anymore. You would have to physically go to the library and read and or photocopy them (which I can't do now due to my location). I will be grateful for anyone out there who knew of this case to help satisfy the requests for reliability by contributing what they know. It was the shortest summary that I could come up with, but if it sounds like I'm ranting then so be it, and I'm only echoing the truth. Jeff Blatnick[edit]

Jeff Blatnick was an Amercian Greco Roman wrestler gold medalist in the 1984 Olympics in the Heavweight class. His success, while significant in and of itself, was made even more remarkable by his recovery from cancer sometime prior to the 1984 Games. Blatnick's gold medal, along with that of teammate Steve Fraser, was the first gold medal won by an American in Olympic Greco Roman wrestling.

Mr. Blatnick now works primarily as a motivational speaker and resides in the state of New York.

City Avenue[edit]

City Avenue (commonly referred to as 'City Line' or 'the Line') is a major commercial, retail, and partial residential strip which straddles along the borders of Philadelphia and the suburban Lower Merion Township communities of Bala Cynwyd, Merion Station, and Overbrook Hills. Many people referred to City Avenue as City Line Avenue because one side of the street is in the city of Philadelphia and the other side is in the suburbs. However, this is only partially correct because it is also a county line (between Philadelphia and Montgomery counties).

City Avenue, which is apart ofU.S. Route 1 runs between Presidential Boulevard in the Wynnefield Heights section of the city/Bala Cynwyd in Lower Merion and 77th Street in the Overbrook Park section. At approximately 40 feet from 77th Street. City Line Avenue becomes Township Line Road in Haverford Township in Delaware County.

There are different designs of ball washers. They can be operated either by hand or electrically. Aluminium is surprisingly reactive; a demo I have often done is to show household Al foil reacting with water, something it does if you add a trace of a mercury salt to the water. Static route[edit]

A route that is manually entered into a routing table. Static routes take precedence over routes chosen by all dynamic routing protocols.

Essentially a dictonary definiton, so doesn't belong here. The second sentence might qualify, but is misleading or wrong and not enough to justify an article in its own right. In particular, it is not at all uncommon to have a static default route that is overridden by more specific dynamic routes, and, in the TCP/IP suite, ICMP redirects will override a static route.

Ligatures[edit]

A ligature is a device used in the dental specialty of orthodontics to tie, or ligate, an archwire to a bracket or band that is attached to a tooth. Ligatures may be constructed of latex, vinyl, or stainless steel. Latex or vinyl ligatures, technically known as elastomeric modules, may be individual units ("O-tie", "A-tie") or may be fused together to create a continuous chain used to move a tooth or several teeth. Lastly, a ligature may consist of a small-width stainless steel wire (.010" or .012") that is used when an archwire needs to be tightly engaged into the slot of a bracket. Put Kids First[edit]

Put Kids First is a non-profit organization whos goal is to keep kids safe through community involvement, education and legislation.

It is a group that was Started by Chris Danielson after the dissapearance of a 10 year old girl from Chris' neighborhood on October 1 2000. A month later she was found murdered.

Since the beginning, Put Kids First members and volunteers have petitioned for a sex offender registry, have attended and organized community events to bring awareness to the issues regarding children's safety, making appearances at offenders' court dates, speaking out and fighting for changes to the law.

The first DH84 Dragon (before the later DH89 Dragon Rapide)was designed to be an airliner which could operate a profitable air service without requiring a subsidy, and in this it proved sucessful. The DH 84 is a wooden biplane with two Gipsy Major 130Hp 4 cylinder aero engines also of De Havilland design and manufacture. The aircraft carries 5-6 passengers and one pilot, at a speed around 105Kts. It is generally considered an excellent example of its type although like most light twins of the time underpowered, being unable to maintain height on one engine. Three versions were produced, initially a military communications version with an extended fin, the Mark 1 with "glasshouse" full length window glazing, and a Mark 2 with wheel spats and more stylish,fully-framed windows. A second series of Mark 1's were later produced during WW2 in Australia for the armed forces, and several of these survive. One of the latter is airworthy in New Zealand, ZK-AXI, having previously served with the RAAF. Another is airworthy in Australia. A number served with the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, operating in difficult and hot situations.

Is an infection with resulting inflammation of the caecum. Usually caused by gram negative enteric commensal bacteria of the gut. Affects immunocompromised patients like those undergoing chemotherapy, with AIDS or the elderly. Symptoms of caecitis include fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Diagnosed with a radiograph CT scan showing thickening of the caecum and "fat stranding".

Miller effect[edit]

In electronics, the Miller effect is the tendency of a capacitance to be multiplied by the gain of adjacent stages.

Intuitively, since a gain represents a voltage multiplication between points, any capacitor across these points will charge and discharge with a current which is a (1 + gain) times greater than it "should" be. The result is that the effective capacitance "seen" by the circuit is therefore (1 + gain) times greater than it actually is.

Example: A 10pF capacitor placed across an amplifier with a gain of 10 would appear to be (1 + 10)*10pF, or 110pF.

Naturally, this increased capacitance can wreak havoc with high frequency response. For example, the tiny junction and stray capacitances in a Darlington transistor drastically reduce the high frequency response through the Miller effect and the Darlington's high gain.

James "Spike" O'Toole[edit]

James "Spike" O'Toole was an Irish-American gangster from Dorchester, Massachusetts. He was a close friend of The Winter Hill Gang of Somerville, and their leader James "Buddy" McLean. He was targeted for assassination by The McLaughlin Brothers gang of Charlestown, when a Cambridge gangster named Ronald Dermody fell in love with his girlfriend. Dermody made a deal with George McLaughlin that if they would kill O'Toole, he would kill McLean. Dermody's plan backfired and he wound up dead, and The McLaughlin's forgot about O'Toole. Years later, in December of 1973, O'Toole (Who had survived many assassination attempts) was ran over by a gangland assassin while leaving a bar in South Boston.

Counterintelligence Field Activity[edit]

Acronym: CIFA

A Department of Defense initiative, created in 2002, to create a general counterintelligence system aimed at supplying "actionable" information to key decision makers at all levels of the government.

The program is designed to feed information into the counterintelligence, counterespionage, anti-terrorism, law enforcement, and security aspects of the government, in addition to providing training and education in the same fields for the federal government.

A recent (November, 2005) proposal would transform the CIFA from an office that is security oriented to one that can also investigate suspicious activity within the United States such as treason, foreign or terrorist sabotage, or even economic espionage.

Arthur K. Barnes[edit]

Arthur K. Barnes (1911-1969) was an American science fiction author. Barnes wrote mostly for pulp magazines in the 1930's and 1940's. Barnes was most noted for his vivid and believable portrayals of alien life. As such, he is compared to Stanley G. [[Pinnacle Airlines]] Flight 3701 was an empty 50-seat [[Bombardier]] [[Canadair]] [[Regional Jet]] [[CRJ-200]] on ferry from [[Little Rock, Arkansas]] ([[Little Rock National Airport]]) to [[Minneapolis, Minnesota]] ([[Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport]]), manned by two pilots, Captain [[Jesse Rhodes]] and First Officer [[Peter Cesarz]]. The RJ crashed when the engines could not be restarted, and they could not reach an airport. ==The incident== The two pilots were hot-rodding the CRJ-200 on their ''deadhead'' flight. The pilots decided to test the limits of the CRJ, and join the [[410 Club]] (referring to pilots who pushed CRJs to their flight ceilings). The anti-stall devices activated while they were at altitude, but the pilots overrode the automatic nose down that would increase speed to prevent stall. After four overrides, both engines experienced flameout, and shutdown. The plane then stalled, and the pilots recovered from stall at 38,000 ft, while still having no engines. This lead the pilots to pitch nose down in an attempt to restart the engines. The crew failed to dive sharply enough to attain the required 300 kt for a windmill restart, ending the dive when they had reached 230 kt. The crew then tried to restart engines using the [[APU]] at 13,000 ft. This was again unsuccessful. They then declared to [[air traffic control]] that they had a single engine flameout. At this point they had 4 diversion airports available to them. As they continued to not be able to restart, they declared to ATC that they had infact had both engines flameout, whereupon only 2 airports were available. After the flameout, the low speed compressor became welded to the rest of the engine. 'Snowmachine' is widespread term used in place of snowmobile across Alaska and parts of Canada. Snowmachines are also called 'sleds or simply 'machines. Additionally, "ski-doo" is also an Alaskan term for snowmobile, named after the brand of snowmobile. In the verb form, "snowmachining" is used, in addition to "sledding" and "ski-dooing".

The list of important men in the first age are interconnected themselves, between the houses of men, and with the elves. These men played a crucial role in causing the end of the First Age.

Barahir: Befriended Finrod after saving his life. This friendship was the saving grace of his son, Beren.

Beren: Redeemer of a Silmaril (For the rite to wed Luthien), He journeyed with Luthien (Thingol and Melian's Daughter) and Finrod Felagund, Angband, with the help of Huan, Hound to the Valar. Finrod Felagund, and Huan died in this expedition.

Dior (of Elvish/Maiarian Decent): Dior, the son of Beren and Luthien, became the final King of the Sindar, ruling in Doriath. His daughter was Elwing, wife to Earendil.

Galdor: Father of Hurin, and Huor. His importance is that he is their father.

Hurin: Father to Turin Turambar, Elf friend to Turgon, King of Gondolin. He fought alongside Turgon and Huor during Nirneath Andoriead (Unnummbered Tears, the fourth battle of Beleriand) and was captured by Morgoth shortly after. After his release, protecting the secret of Gondolin's location (The last Noldorian Kingdom to fall to Morgoth).

Turin: Bane to Father of Dragons, Glaurung. Suffering a cursed life, his major achievements were his defence of Brethil, and the slaying of Glaurung, the Father of Dragons. Wielding the Black Sword, Gurthang (See Anglachel) he killed himself after learning of his sister's (and lover's) fate.

Huor: Father to Tuor, Elf friend to Turgon, he fought and died in the Nirneath, protecting Turgon.

Tuor: The hope of Gondolin, he journeyed from the Landing spot of the Noldor in Vinyamar, to the West. With the gear of Turgon, he and an elf, Voronwe, travelled far to the Kingdom of Gondolin, where Tuor was admitted. Tuor wed the daughter of Turgon, Idril, and Earendil was born. Tuor participated in the long siege of Gondolin, by the Captain of the Balrogs, Gothmog (Brought upon by the treachery of Maeglin, Turgon's nephew). Although both Gothmog ("kamekazied" by the elf Ecthelion of the Fountain) and Maeglin (felled by Tuor) died, the siege on Gondolin was successful. Tuor led the escape of Gondolin, and helped make it successful.

Earendil, Half Elven: During the final battles of Beleriand, after the Elven race, and men were pushed to the lands of Cirdan (Lord of the Teleri on Beleriand), he set sail West to Valinor for reinforcements against the dark lord. He managed to reach Valinor, wherein the Valar sent forces to destroy Beleriand. He is the reason that Morgoth was captured a second time. With Elwing, they have two sons: Elrond, and Elros.
