Stub listing

I was wondering what (if any) policies or opinions there were on what stubs to list on this page. For instance, looking at the musician stubs, there are many missing. This would be okay if we're just looking for the main categories. The only thing is I don't think the Finland musician stub is a main category, while conductor and music producer stubs seem more basic. Any thoughts? --Amazzing5 19:48, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually waht it came down to, was me running out of steam copying over categories, so I figured those interested in certain areas could help finish it up and paste the rest. Personally I like having all listed as it's easier to find and copy what you need than clicking through them, but, yep, I didn't finish :-) Anyone want to help out? Arts and Entertainment Work Group - Musicians

I would just like the Arts and Entertainment Work Group - Musicians to know that the WikiProject on Musicians is undergoing a revival of sorts and would like to work with this project to ensure the improvement of musician and band-related articles. I added the project to the list. Thanks. -- Heaven's Wrath   Talk  04:55, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Cool! Might you be interested in organizing it as a Musicians work group instead? It really wouldn't be all that different than what you have now; you'd just move your current page to a sub-page of the Biography project, and we would add a line to our project tag that has a graphic for your group and says something like "this article is supported by the Musicians work group."? That way, you could make use of all the infrastructure (assessment, review processes, etc.) that we've already set up. What do you think? plange 14:47, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
That sounds like a good idea - at the moment biographies of musical groups aren't covered. --kingboyk 09:10, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

1.0 assessments and this work group

Thanks to kingboyk, we now have the assessments split into work groups to make things easier to digest! What does this mean? Well, now we have a nice work list that shows not only the quality scale, but also any comments left in the project banner template. Also, you'll notice we now have stats for this workgroup displayed on the workgroup page, and you also now have your own log of changes to quality and importance... plange 05:16, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Use of WP B/A & E

I've been adding your tag using the {{WPBiography}} to any articles that relate to your subject matter. However, I now wonder if you want them all added to your grouping. It only says on the tag page that the article should be within the scope of your group - which they are... but I wasn't sure if the articles were something that you selectively choose to include. Morphh 12:53, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Nope, we don't selectively choose, so tag away-- as long as they are in one of the disciplines covered by A&E they can get the a&e-work-group=yes flag (as long as they're not fictional characters). Thanks! plange 17:39, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Friendly reminder

Don't forget to use infobox templates for their specific field. There are more and better specific infoboxes than Template:Infobox Celebrity. 24.126.199.129 06:44, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! I'd added infoboxes specific to disciplines (musician, architect, etc) so that would be a great place to start finding the appropriate one. If you see any missing be bold and add :-) plange 15:49, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Changes to {{WPBiography}}

Dear workgroup, After discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography the importance= field has been changed on the Project template. The changes and how they affect this workgroup are as follows:

  • importance= has been deprecated in favour of priority=.
  • priority= is the same as importance, it's just a friendlier word. The meanings of the grades haven't changed.
  • Importance params should be removed (not an urgent task, just don't use importance= from now and on change any you see to priority= if you feel like it)
  • importance/priority is no longer assessed on a Project scale, except for the ~200 top core articles which use a new parameter core=yes
  • this means that the priority= ratings are now for the exclusive use of the workgroups
  • The workgroups are free to work out their own "importance" (priority) ratings. priority=Top is no longer off limits. So, for example, I've upgraded John Lennon to priority=Top. He's not on the core bios list but that doesn't matter, as the priority is only for the workgroups and Lennon is no doubt top priority/importance in the arts & entertainment field.

Hope that helps. Any questions to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography please. --kingboyk 09:17, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Filmography formats

I wonder if we should create a standard format for filmography lists? Something that's been bugging me is how many filmographies follow the same format as the IMDb, including wording (suggesting a straight cut-and-paste making it borderline copyvio). Or, even if the wording isn't the same, the IMDb is the only film list that lists most recent films first. Logically, filmographies should have the earliest films at the top and then you work your way forward. Audrey Hepburn is an example of a filmography that was changed to the IMDb format (though I flagged it so it might have changed - in fact I intend to fix it myself). Thoughts? 23skidoo 23:38, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I think this sounds like a good idea. Also, do you know how filmographies are greeted during FAC? --plange 01:03, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
If by FAC you mean featured category nominations, to be honest I have seen zero consistency in that. One article is given a hard time at FAC for not having lists, while another might be given a hard time because it has lists. I've seen one too many articles lose their FA status for what I consider to be silly reasons, or denied for same. I don't bother with FA anymore on any articles I work on. It ain't worth the trouble. 23skidoo 03:12, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Project Directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:

and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 22:33, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now moved the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 14:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Joaquin Phoenix

Please check the Joaquin Phoenix article. I have the following questions: Is the "Trivia" section really necessary? Is it considered encyclopedic? Where are the cited references to these trivia alegations? If the alegations in the trivia section are verifiable facts, shouldn't they be worked into the article itself? I believe that the section should be eliminated since it doesn't present any sources to back up its claims. Input, anyone? Tony the Marine 14:24, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Proposed Arts and Entertainment parameters to WPBiography

WikiProject Arts and Entertainment is very wide in scope and includes Actors • Architects • Artists • Illustrators • Painters • Photographers • Sculptors • Comic artists • Comedians • Dancers • Directors • Musicians • Poets • Writers and critics. Dropping a line.

I have created an article on an author at this link Jason Frost (author). however, the name Jason Frost appears to be a publishing house pseudonym and neither me nor any one else can find out who the actual person is in order to create a decent biography. I have listed some of his books (mainly from early '80's. Pulp fiction mainly) which I own.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help find out more about this man. Nateland 00:04, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello from the fashion project!

Greetings from the new WikiProject Fashion, which I hope some of you will be interested in taking notice of and accomodating under your wing, as we have found so far that, even given the absymal nature of most of Wikipedia's fashion coverage, the biographies are the pits save for Anna Wintour, which I'd been working on before the project was created, and a lot of the major models (surprise surprise!). Many aren't even tagged for this project, and {{blp}} has been missing from too many pages as well. So, in the course of assessing all the articles we know we have so far, I've been trying to fix that.

I have suggested over on our talk page that we should, when we have enough editors, we should form a biographies task force or something and coordinate it with you. So I'm making the outreach ... there doesn't seem to be a lot we can do toward that now, but at least maybe you should include fashion in the parameters suggested above. Proposal: Merge Charles Crumb and Sophie Crumb into Crumb family

There have been some concerns about the notability of Charles Crumb. I suggest that this material be merged into a new article called Crumb family, which would discuss the artist family Crumb, including some material about the best-known members Robert Crumb and Aline Kominsky-Crumb (who would retain their own articles), as well as lesser-known members such as Charles Crumb and Maxon Crumb. I think the Sophie Crumb article should be merged into the Crumb family article for the time being as well – she's definitely an emerging artist, however, she has yet to produce a body of work that justifies an article longer than stub-length.

There is precedent in Wikipedia for doing family biographies, BTW – there are articles on the Dupont family and the Krupp family, for example.

Please discuss at Talk:Charles Crumb.

Requesting assistance on Lope de Vega article

Greetings, members of the WikiProject Biography (Arts and Entertainment WorkGroup)! I'm putting out a request for any interested members of the Spain, Theatre, and/or Biography (Arts and Entertainment) Projects to provide some assistance with the article on Lope de Vega. The tone of the much of the text still seems to be from the 1911 Britannica; I believe the article could benefit from the incorporation of material from some additional references, along with the documentation of those references on the article page. "Lope" is definitely a notable figure, with articles listed at 29 "Other Language" interwikis, as of 6 April 2008, and listed as a Featured-Article on Spanish Wikipedia. There should be no shortage of references available :)

I'm requesting assistance at this time, because another editor recently (in my opinion mistakenly and/or inappropriately) deleted much of the article text as being in violation of Wikipedia:Verifiability; I believe this should not have happened, and as of 6 April have restored the deleted text; but the occurrence does underscore the fact that the article could use some updating and improved referencing; hopefully by a collaboration of editors.

Thanks, Lini (talk) 02:34, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

I've been working on this bio. Feedback would be great. I'm new so I'm still learning as I go. Once I finish the Sherwin bio I plan to create bios for other art critics and writers as well as articles about art fairs like Art Chicago and Scope. (Roodhouse1 (talk) 07:09, 9 May 2008 (UTC))

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Biography (arts and entertainment)

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Russell T Davies

Hi. I'm trying to get Russell T Davies (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) to featuredness, but, having never written a BLP FA before, I need some pointers. Currently, there is only one comparable FA, Aaron Sorkin (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), and the author of that is banned, so WikiProject assistance would be nice. My sandbox version of the article is at User:Sceptre/workspace/Russell T Davies. Several questions first:

  • Is the early-life section too large, or is it impossible to tell until the article is finished?
  • What should be my target article size, given that his amateur career constitutes approximately one-twelfth of the biography?
  • What is the best way to write the "reception and recognition" section? Just find awards and general reception, and try to link them together?

a&e/filmbio tagging with Template:WPBiography

{{WPBiography}} is coded so that an article can be tagged for the arts and entertainment work group or WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers, but not both at the same time. The reason for this appears to be the overlapping scope of the two: WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers is regarded as a child project of the arts and entertainment work group. So for example, an actor biography tagged with {{WPBiography|a&e=yes|filmbio=yes}} will only actually be tagged for WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers, because inclusion in the more generic work group is redundant. (With me so far?)

This is less straightforward for some articles though. Mikhail Baryshnikov is known primarily as a ballet dancer, but has also done some acting, and there is an unusual (and absurd) situation on his talk page where there are two instances of {{WPBiography}}, one tagging the article for the arts and entertainment work group with a Top-priority rating, the other tagging it for WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers with a Mid-priority rating. There should only be one transclusion of the {{WPBiography}} banner on that page, so (and irrespective of the priority rating) should it be:

  1. Tagged for the arts and entertainment work group on the basis that he is primarily a ballet dancer rather than an actor?
  2. Tagged for WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers on the basis that this falls under the arts and entertainment work group anyway?
  3. Tagged for both with changes made to {{WPBiography}} to make this possible?

Note: I've also posted this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography, so please reply there to keep discussion in one place. Thanks! PC78 (talk) 17:11, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Please note that priority assessments for this work group are now added by using the |a&e-priority= parameter in the {{WPBiography}} project banner. Please refer to Template:WikiProject Biography/doc for full instructions on how to use the banner, or feel free to ask any questions on the banner's talk page. Discussion of bodies of work for authors

I was looking up one of my favorite authors, and I wonder if it is at all possible to edit entries of author's works to discuss underlying themes. I took some popular culture classes in college, and really enjoy analyzing the underlying themes of works I enjoy immensely. A few examples of what I'm would like to contribute to Wikipedia's entries: mentioning intertextuality of works such as Terry Pratchett, a brief description (with notations, of course) of philosophical themes in books, and in essence, a deeper analysis of works of popular culture that may otherwise be neglected. This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

The article Paul Terry (actor) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable: One film, a few episodes of a TV show, and one episode of game show do not meet the notability guideline for actors at WP:NACTOR.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Madeleine Tabar

I've just patrolled a new article, Madeleine Tabar. I didn't slap it with a blp-prod, since it does include three external links. All of those pages are in Arabic, though, and unfortunately I don't read a word of Arabic. Two of the linked sites don't appear to be about the actress at all but about a public diplomacy project that she apparently (according to the Wikipedia article, anyway) worked for. The third site appears to be an IMDb-type site for Egyptian actors. If someone here reads Arabic, could you look at the page and its sources? Thanks, Cnilep (talk) 02:29, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Improving Felisa Vanoff for DYK

Hello. There is a 'close paraphrase' tag on Felisa Vanoff's page, which I have nominated for DYK. My impression is that it is not a valid tag in this case, especially as I have changed a few passages which were deemed problematic. Unfortunately things got a bit heated because I felt I was facing a brick wall. In any case, I have added two notes about Google Books and Google Scholar to improve the article--basically, it is hard to find much more info for now, but she is definitely notable. Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, nearly all wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced article if they are not sourced, so your project may want to pursue the projects below.

Notice to participants at this page about adminship

Many participants here create a lot of content, have to evaluate whether or not a subject is notable, decide if content complies with BLP policy, and much more. Well, these are just some of the skills considered at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.

So, please consider taking a look at and watchlisting this page:

You could be very helpful in evaluating potential candidates, and even finding out if you would be a suitable RfA candidate.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Question I read on FB today that he passed away. Wikipedia shows him as still living. How do I verify his death so that his article can be updated?Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 17:52, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

@Mitzi.humphrey: Find a reliable source that states that. I am looking for one right now and will get back to you when I find one. Woodstop45Talk (Contribs) 17:56, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
{{ping|User:Woodstop45]] Thank you. Maybe the New York Times has it. The person who seemed to know lives in New York. Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 18:07, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
At the moment everything I find says he's still living. It might be best to wait a few days to let it spread. Woodstop45Talk (Contribs) 18:08, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
The only things I'm finding is a death of a Ralph Goings in 2012. I don't think that would be him, though. Woodstop45Talk (Contribs) 18:14, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
@Mitzi.humphrey:Did he pass away today? Woodstop45Talk (Contribs) 18:18, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
If indeed he has passed away, it must have been today or at least no death certificate or obit.Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 18:40, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
In that case I would say it would be best to wait about 3 days, as that is the time it normally would show up in the news and an obituary would be written. Then the funeral would probably be about a week or so after that. Woodstop45Talk (Contribs) 18:43, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Move discussion at the Murder of JonBenét Ramsey article

Opinions are needed on the following: Talk:Murder of JonBenét Ramsey#Requested move 20 September 2016. Among the concerns noted in the move discussion is whether or not WP:Undue weight is being given to a recent documentary. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 15:40, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Hey all, Mike Cernovich (author) might benefit from some eyes. Looks like he's an alt-right author who might have a bit of controversy surrounding him. Some IPs and an SPA were blanking the article yesterday. I semi-protected for 24 hours, but that's about to expire. Thanks! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:03, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

Hey all, I opened a discussion at Talk:Raven-Symoné#WP:SURNAME - It's a simple question: How do we refer to the subject Raven-Symoné Christina Pearman in the body of the article? I'd appreciate any feedback. Shouldn't take more than a few seconds. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:20, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Definition of WP:NPOV at the Death of JonBenét Ramsey article and its relation to article titles and article content

Will editors here weigh in on a dispute about the definition of WP:NPOV and its relation to article titles and article content? It's now an RfC; see Talk:Death of JonBenét Ramsey#RfC: Is use of murder in the text, or use of murder categories, within the article against the WP:NPOV policy?. Proposed deletion of Araceli de León

The article Araceli de León has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article may not be eligible for Template:Prod blp, but it is not supported by any sources despite being tagged as such since 2009. Article is basically one unsourced sentence followed by a long filmography with no sources provided to show that this individual satisfies WP:BIO let alone WP:NACTOR.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:36, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Editors from this project may wish to comment on Talk:The Bob Newhart Show#Opening sequence. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:04, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Luc Bendza

A new editor is trying to create an article for Luc Bendza, but is struggling to do so. They created something that myself and other editors more or less completely re-built to a well-referenced stub at Luc Bendza. The original creator has now created a new article at Luc bendza that has lots of good material, but also has large chunks cut and pasted from other articles and not relevant: there's a couple of paragraphs from Sylvester Stallone's article, for example! I presume they were using that as a template.

Basically, the whole thing is a mess, but there's a good article in there somewhere. Can some others come help clean up? Bondegezou (talk) 12:26, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

RfC comments please on an obscure guy who wrote a famous book

There is an RfC on Napoleon Hill here. The article does not have a lot of traffic, and would really appreciate comments. Thanks. SW3 5DL (talk) 16:04, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

Category for exhibitors at the Salon

I think it would be useful to have a parent category for "exhibitors at the Salon" or some such title for those artists who exhibited at the Salon (Paris). I will leave it to someone who has more expertise in this field to create the category and start to populate it. Four artists who's Wikipedia biographies I have come across recently are:

All four exhibited in the Salon. -- PBS (talk) 21:54, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Bryan's Dictionary of Painters and Engravers

There was a template called template:Bryan which allowed linking to "Bryan's Dictionary of Painters and Engravers" and displayed attribution to meet the requirements of the guide line WP:PLAGIARISM.

There were problems with it though. The major one being that it only worked for volume 1. I have fixed that and added other parameters to the template. While doing this I noticed that there was a more modern edition at the Internet Archive and that user:Jane023 had (some time ago) started to import the 1903 edition onto Wikisource.

The "New, revised and enlarged edition 1903–1905" edition states near the start of volume 3:

Editions:
First published, 2 vols. 4to, 1816
Second edition, revised by J. Stanley, 1 vol 8vo, 1849
Supplement by H. Ottley, 1876
Third Edition, revised by Robert Edmund Graves and Sir Walter Armstrong, 2 volumes, 8vo. 1884-1889
Reprinted 1894,1899, 1901–1902

The edition that has been used so far populates Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from Bryan's Dictionary of Painters and Engravers. The category contains just under 1,000 entries. It is according to the 1903 edition the 3rd edition, so I have moved the template to Public Domain This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domainBryan, Michael (1886). Graves, Robert Edmund (ed.). Bryan's Dictionary of Painters and Engravers (A–K). Vol. I (3rd ed.). London: George Bell & Sons https://archive.org/stream/cu31924092716962#page/n6/mode/1up. {{cite encyclopedia}}: Missing or empty |title= (help). It is a two volume edition covering the artists with surnames starting:

  • 1: A–K (1886)
  • 2: L–Z (1889)

At some point it would be a good idea to run a bot job to add a volume parameter to template so that the url points to the correct volume.

I wanted to add some information to the article Joseph Beaume, but there is no entry in the 1886 3rd edition for that artist. I checked the 1903 edition and there is an entry. So I have created a new template for the 1903 edition it is called (unimaginatively):

  • {{Bryan (1903 edition)}} it displays thus:
  • Public Domain This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domainWilliamson, George C., ed. (1903). "article name needed". Bryan's Dictionary of Painters and Engravers (A–C). Vol. I (New, revised and enlarged ed.). London: George Bell & Sons.

This template includes a parameter called "wstitle" which, if there are Bryan (1903) articles on Wikisource, will allow linkage to those articles. In the mean time it can be used to link to articles on the Internet Archive. It is a five volume editions with artist biographies listed by surname. The template defaults to volume volume if none is provided. The five volumes are:

  • A–C (1903)
  • D–G (1903)
  • H–M (1904)
  • N–R (1904)
  • S–Z (1905)

To make it clear which version is in use, I have move the original {{Bryan}} to {{Bryan (3rd edition)}}

-- PBS (talk) 12:24, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for doing this! If the 1000 entries are all in the 1903 version then maybe we could drop the older version altogether? I wasn't the one doing the import by the way (though I may have tried to do some stuff on wikisource - frankly I can't remember. As I recall, Bryan's was the pet project of User:Fram for a while, who created quite a few useful stubs on engravers. Jane (talk) 14:54, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
I don't know which version was used for the import to Wikipedia, but as there was no article for Joseph Beaume and he does not appear in the 1886 version, but does appear in the 1903, it is quite possible that it was the 1886 edition (3rd) that was copied into Wikipedia. We will just have to hope that someone comes along and tells us which version they used. -- PBS (talk) 21:45, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Popular pages report

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Arts and entertainment/Archive 1/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Biography.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Biography, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

IOBDB recently changed their URLs

The Lortel Archives have decided to change their URL scheme, and in order to make sure everything actually ends up at the right location pages using the old URL/Template scheme have been placed into Category:Pages using a generic version of Template:iobdb. Your assistance is requested in converting these pages from using a generic {{iobdb}} to one of the more subject-specific sub-templates. Thank you. Primefac (talk) 20:24, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

To clarify, Wikipedia needs help to clean up 1,300 IOBDB dead links that need clean-up. Please help us. Here is the procedure: If you're looking for a specific person (say, Franklin Underwood, you'd end up here). To fix it, go to the Lortel search page here, put in his name and search. On the next screen, click on the red link to his name, and that will bring you to his listing. Get his ID number from the address bar at the top (25087), and copy it. Then go to his Wikipedia article and change the {{iobdb}} template to {{iobdb name|25087}}. For a venue, you'd use {{iobdb venue}}, and for a specific production you'd use {{iobdb title}}, all with the same procedure. Full instructions are at each template's documentation, as well as the category page. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:57, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
For the umpteenth time, I did not break the links. Lortel changed their URL scheme, and so every link on every page was broken. None of the extant usage is broken at the moment because I fixed the templates, but they are not pointing to the best URLs. I would appreciate it if you stopped trying to paint me as an evil villain. Primefac (talk) 22:10, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
@Ssilvers: you need to apologise to Primefac for the unacceptable comment above, and confirm you actually understand what has happened. Then you need to run along and help fix the issue instead of wibbling on here. Nick (talk) 22:16, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
I do not mean to paint anyone as having done anything wrong, and I don't see anything wrong with my comment above, as corrected. I'm just trying to explain to people how to help fix all the links. Can we please remove this and the above two comments so that the procedure is just left above and people will be able to understand how to help? -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:23, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

Nancy Crow

Would someone from this WikiProject mind taking a look at Nancy Crow? Almost all of the sources cited are WP:BLPSELFPUB so it's not clear whether Crow meets WP:BIO or WP:ARTIST; moreover, the article is a bit promotional sounding, particularly the box quote at the beginning, and makes mention of a number of non-Wikipedia notable collections and exhibitions. Quilting might not get the type of coverage of some other fine arts, so I'd figured it would be best to get feedback from others before adding tags, etc. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:44, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Interview insertion spam

Hi everyone,

Special:Contributions/Meghandaly is – probably in good faith – inserting a lot of links to interviews in Rain Taxi to the text (not external links or as a source) in biographic articles where the fact that they once appeared in an interview in a specific magazine probably isn't so central to their public persona. I think they should all reverted, but I don't want to go after specific users. Are there recommendations for what to do here? If wrote a sentence about every time an author did an interview, the articles would mainly be about interviews they did. /78.69.69.197 (talk) 20:58, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
